VIDEO: Fulham 3 - 1 Liverpool (All major incidents)

Zamora 1-0 Torres 1-1 Nevland 2-1 Degen red card Carragher red card Dempsey 3-1

Last week's victory over Manchester United means NOTHING unless...

...Liverpool beat Fulham today. Yes, the team is suffering from injuries but there is still enough quality in the squad to get a result. Javier Mascherano summed it up perfectly during the week: "The win [against United] is important, but it's only three points. We have to keep going...we know we cannot drop important points in the future. If we want the three points against United to be of value then we have to show this kind of performance again in the future. Now we have won we cannot stop. We have to keep this going. "We've shown we have a good squad, not just a good team, and we are pulling together. If we want to fight for something we have to keep showing what we did against United. We cannot relax just because we have won this game. That's the main message." Absolutely spot-on. In my view, Fulham is a must-win game. Johnson and Gerrard may be out, but on paper, Liverpool is still a better team. Aquilani may also be out but his absence cannot be used

Liverpool ‘sliding towards mediocrity’? Agenda-driven NONSENSE and an INSULT to the club.

Whether it’s empty, half-baked ‘Spirit of Shankly’ rhetoric or brainwashed fans jumping on the ‘Hicks and Gillett are the devil’ bandwagon (without actually knowing WHY), there is a damaging and pointless agenda being peddled in the press at the moment by alleged Liverpool fans that needs to be highlighted. For me, Spirit of Shankly has no real credibility outside its cadre of easily-led weak-minded fans, all of whom are desperately eager to hurl xenophobic epithets and march around like yobs in a pointless effort to rid the club of its current owners. Worse than that though is Liverpool fans in the press who use every article they write to further Spirit of Shankly’s spurious agenda. A prime example of this Tony Barrett’s article in ‘The Times’ yesterday, in which he slated the owners for not yet having built Liverpool a new stadium. Mr Barrett’s comparison with Spurs’ new stadium was tenuous at best, but the part of the article that really stood out was this: “It is becoming abundan

MISSED OPPORTUNITIES: Rafa Benitez's 10 biggest transfers blunders?

No matter what happens from now until the end of the season, and whether we finish in the top 4 or not, there are a number of recent transfer deals that bother me greatly - signings, sales or missed opportunities that could've improved our squad and afforded us more depth than we currently have. The deals relevant to last season may even have turned some of those nagging draws in wins, maybe giving us enough points to have snatched the title from Man Ure. Instead, we continue to be massively reliant on Fernando Torres and Stevie Gerrard for inspiration, both of whom are prone to groin problems. This leaves us very vulnerable, and after having witnessing Rafa mould 'his' team over the last 5 years, it is not good enough. Also don't forget, of those 2 we rely on so much, Gerrard was already here before Rafa arrived. There have been plenty of players come and go in Rafa's 5 years and a great many of his signings have been decent. Torres, Alonso, Reina, Benayoun, Agger,

18 reasons to be positive about LIVERPOOL FC right now

Despite the doom and gloom of the last few weeks - and amid the continued misplaced vitriol towards the owners - there are plenty of reasons for Liverpool fans to be positive at the moment. As many people who visit this regularly will know, I take a critical, realist approach to LFC. Within that approach, I always try and be fair, and there is plenty of evidence for that on the site. Contrary to popular opinion, I am definitely a fan of the club, and I always give credit where credit is due. So - here are 18 reasons why I believe it is a great time to be a Liverpool fan... 1. The draw curse has been broken! 10 games league played – no draws! After 24 league draws in two seasons – some of which were responsible for Liverpool losing the title last season – it is great that the team is no longer drawing league games on a regular basis. Yes, we’ve lost 4 games instead (!) but in the grand scheme of things, it is better to win more and lose a few more than draw too many games. 2. Fernand

POLL: Is Ian Rush right about David Ngog?

Ian Rush believes that David Ngog has the potential to be a star for Liverpool. Is he right, or is this just wishful thinking? In his column for the Liverpool Echo , Rushie was full of praise for the young Frenchman, affectionately nicknamed 'Wash' by Liverpool fans: "There’s no doubt he has something. The most obvious quality is that he can score goals. The winner at Leeds in the Carling Cup was both important and very well taken, while Sunday’s finish [against Man United] was arguably his coolest and most significant yet". Rush added: "The Anfield coaching staff are clearly working hard on him and he has undoubted potential. The experience of scoring a winning goal against United will only help his development". Given the club's hit and miss success rate with Strikers over the last 5-6 years, could Ngog be the real deal, or is he just another flash in the pan? VIEW FROM THE ENEMY: United's defeat; Torres vs. Rooney - Liverpool-Kop interviews 'The Republik of Mancunia'...

Scott the red over at 'The Republik of Mancunia ' has kindly taken the time to answer some questions about - amongst other things - where it all went wrong for United at Anfield yesterday. Jaimie Kanwar: What went wrong for United at Anfield? Scott the Red: The first problem was the team selection. With Darren Fletcher out injured we needed some grit and fight in the centre of midfield, with Anderson could have provided us with. I can only assume Sir Alex Ferguson thought we were going to control the game with our passing from the centre of midfield but in games like these, you need someone to boss the midfield physically, something Anderson should be selected for when both Fletcher and Owen Hargreaves are unavailable. Secondly, it’s hard to ignore the impact of the referee in the result. Despite dominating possession (57% according to Sky Sports) away from home we didn’t create enough clear cut chances to win the game, but the ref did play his part. The most obvious was the d

YOSSI BENAYOUN reminds me so much of the Liverpool FC legend that is...

Peter Beardsley! The more I watch Benayoun the more I'm convinced that he is the current Liverpool team's version of Beardsley. Beardsley was an absolutely superb player for Liverpool, and anyone who had the privilege of watching him play during the Dalgish era will know what I'm talking about. Like his team-mate John Barnes, Beardsley was one of those rare players that made you catch your breath every time he got the ball, as you knew something exciting was likely to happen. You know the feeling: hair on the back of your neck stands up; a murmur of excitement reverberates around the ground; you rise from of your seat in anticipation...just like when Benayoun picked up the ball inside Liverpool's half yesterday and started the move that led to Fernando Torres' goal. Like Benayoun, Beardsley wasn't the fastest of players, but he had electric pace over 10-15 yards; superb technique; peerless close-control skills, and the uncanny ability to pick out inch-perfect t

RAFA BENITEZ - The man who came in from the cold

As Anfield, the city of Liverpool, and every Liverpool fan jumped for joy during Sunday's humbling of Man United, one man stood still...emotionless; impassive, and controlled. That man was, of course, Rafa Benitez - the heartbeat and Commander in Chief of everything Liverpool FC. If one was to spend the whole match against Manchester United watching Rafa, it would be hard to judge the scoreline at the end. The team he was guiding on the pitch echoed his personality off it: cold, ruthless, determined and very tactical. Every team eventually becomes the image of their manager, and Liverpool are showing signs that they are Rafa Benitez. Indeed, against United, the team was stubborn in its resistance and clinical in its attacking play. I’ll try to refrain from throwing superlatives though because I’ve been almost driven barmy hearing all the negativity this week, and now we’re (inevitably) set for a week of praise. The fickleness of football and the media in general is as rotten as the

VIEW FROM THE ENEMY: Interview with 'The Republik of Mancunia'

Ahead of Liverpool's game with Manchester United later today, I answered a few questions for Scott over at 'The Republik of Mancunia'. Here is the text of the interview, which was published on RoM yesterday: Scott the Red: What do you make of the beachball fiasco at the Stadium of Light? Jamie Kanwar: It was a very unfortunate incident, and according to the laws of the game, the goal should not have stood. However, every team suffers bad luck and dodgy refereeing decisions, and this incident should not be used an excuse for losing the game. And as Rafa Benitez rightly admitted after the game, Liverpool were just not good enough on the day. STR: How do you feel about your captain in light of his drunken bar brawl? JK: Gerrard was cleared, which was great, but he brought the situation on himself. After the initial rebuffal, did Gerrard need to approach McGhee a second time to ‘question’ him? No. If Gerrard had just kept away, the whole mess could’ve been avoided. The whole si

POLL: Is Spirit of Shankly's xenophobic “YANK LIARS OUT” approach compatible with the ‘Liverpool Way’?

I believe that Spirit of Shankly’s ‘Yank Liars Out! approach to ousting the owners is unprofessional, undignified, and lacking in all credibility. Please vote in the poll, which I'm re-posting in a bid to reach as many Liverpool fans as possible. Vote at the bottom of the post Spirit of Shankly is made up of a miniscule minority of Liverpool fans yet, amazingly, they purport to represent ALL Liverpool fans. As such, are we to believe that all Liverpool fans - and by that, I mean the global fanbase, not just fans from Liverpool - agree with a xenophobic approach to club matters? From my interaction with SOS members, it seems to me that they only really care about the views of game-going, Liverpool-based fans, as if they are the only fans in the world. How exactly does their ‘Yank Liars Out’ campaign fit with the Liverpool Way of doing things? Such a campaign – and the use of derogatory words like ‘Yank’ – is completely the opposite of everything Liverpool FC stands for, or SHOULD

LIVERPOOL v MAN UNITED - 442 or 4231? Possible line-ups for tomorrow's crunch game

Defeat against Man United on Sunday is unthinkable, and the decisions Rafa Benitez makes for that game could literally make or break Liverpool's season. Despite the doom and gloom hovering over the club at the moment, if Rafa keeps it simple and goes with aces in their places, I fully expect Liverpool to beat United. Earlier in the week, I presented 11 reasons why I think Liverpool have struggled this season and 10 suggestions on how to get the season back on track. I argued that main thing Liverpool need to do is play aces in their places, and this is especially important for tomorrow's game. That means no untested formations (i.e. 343); no square pegs in round holes, and players in their best/most comfortable positions. So - taking into account all possible permutations, here are my possible line-ups for tomorrow: 1. WITH GERRARD, TORRES + JOHNSON ------------------- Reina Johnson ------ Carra --– Agger ---- Insua ------------- Gerrard --- Masch Kuyt ----------- Benyoun ---

VIDEO: Let's hope Rio Ferdinand makes more mistakes like these on Sunday

Liverpool's defence has been poor at times this season, and with the Manchester United home game coming up, more defensive lapses could quite literally end our league season. United's defenders are not infallible though, and they're just as prone to making costly errors. Rio Ferdinand in particular has come under fire for his mistakes recently. Hopefully he'll make some more of these on Sunday: Ferdinand mistake vs. Holland Ferdinand mistake vs. Manchester City Ferdinand mistake vs. Ukraine Another mistake like this one by Nemanja Vidic wouldn't go amiss either: ---- Join the site's new Facebook page!

RISING FROM THE ASHES: 10 ways to save Liverpool's season

Yesterday, I posted a list of eleven reasons why I believe Liverpool have struggled this season. Today, it's time to look to forward positively and come up with a way out of the current mess. Yes, things are bleak, but I do not think that the season is over. In fact, I actually think Liverpool can still put in a title challenge, but only if certain changes are made and previous mistakes are not repeated. What follows is merely my opinion. Actually, that's not completely true - I am sure there are tens of thousands of Liverpool fans who think the same way as me. My views on this issue are not unique; it's just common sense really. 1. Play 'aces in their places' No more square pegs in round holes: That means no more left backs playing in central midfield and no more attacking midfielders playing in defensive-midfield roles (i.e. Lucas). Play the best available team for every game and use the players in their best/most effective positions. 2. Move Gerrard to centr

11 reasons why Liverpool FC is struggling this season

Liverpool’s crushing defeats to Sunderland and Lyon are undoubtedly devastating blows to the club’s trophy ambitions. Clearly, the recurring problems that have plagued Liverpool under Rafa Benitez are wreaking havoc once again. As such, if the club is to recover and salvage something from this campaign, it is imperative that important changes are made NOW. The poor start to the season has nothing to do with fan-favourite excuses like lack of money; the influence of Hicks and Gillett or injuries - Benitez has simply failed to utilise the players he has in the most effective way possible. I have argued all of these points in various articles , but here are the reasons (as I see it) that Liverpool have failed so far this season: 1. Failure to IMMEDIATELY replace Xabi Alonso Liverpool needed to have someone of comparable quality in Alonso's position from DAY ONE of the season. When a hugely influential player like that leaves, there needs to be some semblance of continuity. There ar
