Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for AC Milan star Mario Balotelli, and it seems that Reds fans are broadly in favour of the move.
In May, the Daily Mail alleged:
"Liverpool will move in for Balotelli if Luis Suarez is lured away to Real Madrid or Barcelona after the World Cup".
A recent report in Italian newspaper TuttoSport further claimed that:
* Tottenham and Liverpool both want Balotelli.
* Arsenal's interest has waned over the last few weeks.
Last week, I conduced a poll on the site asking fans about the possibility of Liverpool signing Balotelli:
* 16300 (approx) fans participated.
* 53% of fans voted in favour of signing £30m-rated Balotelli (Subject to change as the poll is still ongoing)
Balotelli - hailed by Gary Cahill this month as a 'world class' player - recently admitted that he 'misses' the Premier League, and with the persistent racism he experiences from the neanderthals of Serie A, a return to England could be on the cards. Balotelli's Agent seems to agree, and when asked about the striker's future this week, he told reporters:
"Maybe it was a mistake to bring Mario back to Italy. For him it is essential to go where he is loved, and at AC Milan some people love him and some do not."
With 36 goals/assists in 54 appearances for Milan, Balotelli is certainly doing the business in Italy, but, domestically, he is yet to achieve Suarez's level of prolificity, though that may come with increased maturity/experienced.
I personally have no problem with LFC signing Balotelli. Compared to Suarez, the Italian striker is a Saint, and with his excellent man-management skills, Brendan Rodgers has a great chance of getting the best out of him.
Yes, it's still a risk, and £30m is a massive transfer fee, but in my view, Balotelli's potential outweighs that risk, and unlike Suarez, he doesn't cause problems that damage his club's reputation.

Seriously, f*** it, let's do it. We need to take some risks.
ReplyDelete52% have no idea about Liverpool FC
ReplyDeleteRodgers really could turn him into super mario.
ReplyDeleteNO = He thinks only of himself = not a TEAM PLAYER - Reus much better option
ReplyDeleteI think people see this in addition to Reus.
ReplyDeleteSign him up. Some reports say he's available for £15m! It'd be a steal.
ReplyDeleteB R suprised us all with Lambert - maybe he will do so again - Answer maybe nearer home
ReplyDeleteI'm all for it. He's a nutcase but at least he's the type of nutcase that would allowed in the stadium. Massive potential which he hasn't come close to fulfilling yet. Proven goal scorer. He's the sort of player that could be a gem with the right coaching. Brendan wouldn't take any of his crap and Balotelli would be loved at Liverpool. Somewhat of a gamble but given his talent, one that could pay off massively. Plus I've read from a few different sources that the price could actually be anywhere between £15 and 25 million which seems a bargain for someone like him. AC president also open to selling. I seem to remember Balotelli talk very fondly of Liverpool in an interview during his time in England too.
ReplyDeleteconsidering i was originally against the Ghanian handballer (look how he turned out), who am i to say no to this.
ReplyDeleteI'm in too Jamie, I think he has the phisique to be world class, just needs to quit smoking.... I feel its of vital importance to buy at least 1 Top world star this window, if not just to lift the moral of the fans and players. Southampton or Swansea players just don't cut it for me.
ReplyDeleteExplain please?
ReplyDeleteRues and Cavanni Moreno hummel and Lovren that's it
ReplyDeleteIf Balotelli is 15mil worth the risk
i heard 23 mil, apparently the owner wants to sell to buy others
ReplyDeleteI have a three legged tortoise that's faster than Hummel and he's still hibernating - do you think I should check on him?
ReplyDeleteI would much prefer it if the bookies were right about Marco Reus. He would be absolutely perfect. Him and Sturridge up front would be pretty frightening. Luis who?
ReplyDeleteis anyone else worried about the class of players that ManU are interested in? We are in the champ league and looking at mid table players. Currently piss'd off
ReplyDeleteI have right to a opinion Sami Hypia wasn't the fastest .
ReplyDeleteHe did great job world cup
Marco Reus YES please
ReplyDeleteUs fans never learn, it seems.
ReplyDeleteI'll be more concerned about it when the transfers are done, if it stayed like this. Let's wait and see. It looks like Rodgers is being allowed to boost the squad with a mix of players. The job has only just started to be fair.
ReplyDeleteYes of course just my opinion too and I agree on the others though Cavani would have to be cheap too. He did not convince me and though Reus had a quiet WC (yes I know) I do think he would be a mega signing.
ReplyDeleteWhen you see the result of this poll, you remember that the word fan is an abbreviation of fanatic. Why on planet earth would we replace Suarez with Balotelli?
ReplyDeleteCavanni has stated he wants out coause Zlatan has 1st pick . only problem buying players from Ligue 1 is wage bill Reus didn't play ruled out injured did you see the german team hold up his shirt
ReplyDeleteIve said it before about him, my problem with him isn't his ability, its his attitude. I don't think he has the right attitude, and he causes issues within the squad. Yes Suarez had problems, and wasn't exactly a model player, but his attitude was always 100%.
ReplyDeleteYou hear a lot of stories of Balotelli falling out with various people. I think he has the potential to really let you down at the crucial moment.
good points but im still worried because we are already 4/5 players in and none are cheap. Lalana is some 7 or 8 mill less the Sanchez and more the Suarez when he was already a world star, not to mention he is older.....Ian Ayre is a joker
ReplyDeleteTrue wages could be a problem given our apparent policy. Yes I was joking about Reus and think he would be a real statement signing but then there's those wages........
ReplyDeleteDamn when I describe myself as a fan I thought it was short for fantastic :-)
ReplyDeleteWhy blame the Americans? :-)
ReplyDeleteGuys what about REMY… 8.5
ReplyDeleteF*** STEAL
Lol :-)
ReplyDeleteWould Suarez wages be enough?
ReplyDeleteYeah they can obviously make an exception when it suits but I doubt many players (if any) would get that kind of deal, Special circumstances i think and it paid off £75M and CL
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it. We shouldn't get so hung up about the quoted prices, they are mainly guesswork by journalists. FSG are not mugs any longer and they are business men who look at the cold bottom line. So if they sanctioned those purchases then that's all that matters. As for Sanchez, yes Arsenal got a spectacular deal there, but he simply wasn't interested in coming to LFC, so we move on. Lallana is a quality player and will certainly do a great job for the squad, as with Lambert. Can may be a find, time will tell. Same applies to Markovic. So far, that's all that's been confirmed, everything else is rumour. Let's wait and see who comes in. I hope the rumour about Jay Rodriguez stays a rumour.
ReplyDeletedont get me wrong jay rod impressed me last two seasons and I did think we would soon be linked but for 7 mill not 20+mill.
ReplyDeleteAlexandre Lacazette, who we are now being linked with again would be a much better option IMO. Balotelli is a trouble maker. He caused major unrest when he was at City. Constantly fell out with his Mancini etc. Stay clear!
ReplyDeleteI said yesterday there was no chance. I still don't believe it will happen as he's not looking to move. But he's the only player I can think of who nutmegs anywhere near as much as LS and he would be a great buy, not as skilful but more reliable than Sanchez
ReplyDeleteReally Hoping we finish above Arsenal again next season so we can laugh about it like we did with Willian, Salas, and Mhkitaryan
NO BRAINER
ReplyDeleteBony isn't £20m worth that's for sure
Agree 100%
ReplyDeleteHe'd be worth the risk def at 15mill and has potential to be a world great if he sorts his head and knuckles down. Not sure about calling him a 'saint' compared to Suarez, has an edge to his game where he could equally do something mad in a match. Still young and prob have a few more off field issues than Luis as well. As I said though on pure footballing ability prob a risk worth taking and would make a few other pl/cl clubs take us as serious contenders,
ReplyDeleteSign up that tortoise! Seriously, with my dead nan at left back (as we discussed yesterday) and your three-legged tortoise in central defence, this pairing beats Bertrand and Hummel any day of the week.
ReplyDeleteI agree re Reus; I do believe we'd have more luck playing pick up sticks with our butt cheeks. But we can dream, can't we?
ReplyDeleteheard he is available for 14m now. But i think we should better sign young strikers like Lacazette or Origi to play as a backup to Studge.
ReplyDeleteThe perfect replacement will be Reus thou.
But I can..... (no pun intended)
ReplyDeleteGuys, why the hell don't we try and sign Julien Draxler from Schalke? He would be the marquee signing we all crave. He's only 20 and fits our transfer policy as he has potential to be a world star and his value would go up over time. He would probably also be more realistic than reus.
ReplyDeleteNever considered him. Hmmmmm
ReplyDeleteI always hear Draxler is so good, he can do this and that. But never ever seen him doing much in bundesliga. Dont kno what the hype is about
ReplyDelete5 goals and 7 assists last season in 35 appearances. He's only 20 so don't think that's bad at all. Plus he has CL experience and at such a young age. Should be a lot easier to sign than reus.
ReplyDeleteI tried it once but couldn't manage it. My brother hasn't brought his kids round since.
ReplyDeleteif you need an explanation, then you need to think why you are a Liverpool supporter ??
ReplyDeleteHe's mad as a bicycle. Very frustrating. If you were able to cut his head open and somehow stick a new brain in, I reckon he could be a world-beater.
ReplyDeleteHe would be a nightmare. We need to keep the team unity not throw it out the window with a mad b@stard.
ReplyDeleteCavani is really over-rated. Just look at uruguay. When does he have anywhere near the impact that suarez has. Considering they would probably want at least 50 million for him I think that's way overpriced. IMO Reus is a far better player than Cavani.
ReplyDeleteOn fire today guy! First Gilette Nan now this...
ReplyDeleteThere are only two or three players in the world who compare to Suarez's level right now. To compare Balotelli to him is really not fair.
ReplyDelete36 goals/assists in 54 appearances is really good though, and I think the team would be better off with him. Though I'd have a hard time stomaching a 30m fee for someone who is considered a problem child.
At most, the fee should be around 20m. If we are going to take the risk and headache, we shouldn't be paying top dollar. Similar to the Sturridge deal in that regard.
we dont need new strikers, we got Sturridge and Lambert.
ReplyDeletebony is effective. have to give him that. + i bet defenders hate him due to his sheer physical strenght. the guy is must B*stard son of Amazing Hulk and Hulk Hogan.
ReplyDeleteid take him over remy, but i dont think we need new strikers. unless we offload both borini and aspas
Balotelli is a walking disaster. Only cares about himself which is dangerous with an ego his size. At every single club he's been at he's very lazy, doesnt put any effort into training, falls out with managers and team mate. This is not the description of a Liverpool player.
ReplyDeletenow available for £15 million - WOW - That is interesting AND Why did the Columbian Martinez twitter gracious liverpool - could it BE Milan use that money to buy him ??? its all very interesting but Martinez did say GRACIOUS L F C - WHY ?????????????????
ReplyDeleteSince 65 and I still would like an explanation of why you seem to think over half a representative selection of active Liverpool supporters have "no idea" about Liverpool.....myself included.
ReplyDeleteDo not post pointless sniping comments like this. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI see your point but can he not mature?
ReplyDeleteIt might be almost his last chance to show what a player he could be after all the stick he has rightly got for his WC antics..
Could BR be the man to put his arm round him and change his future. I don't know but at the right price it might be worth a punt. If not he gets moved out and on pretty sharpish no worse than wasting money on players who are not good enough to start with IMO.
We really only have three strikers on the roster...
ReplyDeleteSturridge
Lambert
Borini
We need to get at least two more.
Perhaps he was trying to acquire a new brain when he stomped on Scott Parker's head.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'd rather have a biter than a studser. Of course, having neither would be ideal.
News just in- AC Milan have slashed their asking price to only 14m for Balotelli!
ReplyDeleteOnly if they draw first blood.
ReplyDeleteif we are lucky with injuries we only need two. i think we will be playing with 1 striker instead of 2 this season.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I would be thrilled if Brendan Rodgers signed Balotelli for Liverpool (sentence needs more proper nouns, I think).
ReplyDeleteCavani would walk into the squad and be the best player on the team. His work rate is second to none - not even Hendo works as hard.
ReplyDeleteProblem with Uruguay, he's play like a box to box striker, constantly tracking back and making him less effective offensively. Same goes with PSG, he's played out of position, but still banged in 16 goals (2nd over all). At Napoli he got 29 in his last season.
Reus is good, different, far better - no way - when Reus has 3 23+ goal seasons, you can make that claim.
What about Turtle-Man Soldado???
ReplyDeleteive a soft spot for balo hes entertaining im almost certain he would score 20 to 30 goals for liverpool plus he puts bums on seats and shirts on backs and for 30m its a snip when consider what we are paying for others
ReplyDeleteborini isnt good enough
ReplyDeleteHas JK wanting this player got anything to do with he's lost his first pantomime villan, and needs another one to fill the void??
ReplyDeleteThe Suarez and Luis Alberto articles will be missed this season(esp the article about Alberto getting YANKED of by BR at half time). You'd think if the managers Yanking you of you would be one of his favourites?
If Sakho makes one mistake a every 3 games he can replace Suarez as the focal point of his articles.
Personally if we sign Bawloteli and he does the business on the pitch, I'll give him some leeway. If he performs and isn't a total Tw@t, I wouldn't mind him. Plus he's getting married soon, maybe he's grown up a little.
Markovic has finally been confirmed. Welcome to Anfield and good luck!
ReplyDeleteThe guy has Zlatan's nose and hair, hope he's just as talented (but not as lazy).
ReplyDelete"I went to Partizan and won the title. I went to Benfica and won the title. Now I have joined Liverpool and want to win the title, 100 per cent."
ReplyDeleteBring it :-)
I just can't see this happening. The signings we're making suggest to me that we're trying to build with the emphasis on team rather than individual and mario is definitely an individual. Can't see us replacing one high maintenance figure of controversy with another
ReplyDeleteRight, but then the fee starts to look a bit much, for a 23 year-old rough diamond who's had three bites at the top already. I dunno. But there aren't many like him around are there?
ReplyDeleteOooh.... Thats fighting talk right here.
ReplyDeleteHope this guys does the business, and doesn't make us fawn over Sanchez over the season. Damn you Sanchez!!! I hope you get R.APED by a polar bear.
:-O
ReplyDeletewith Aspas gone the top four is a mere pipe dream.
ReplyDeletewhat about the one percent
ReplyDeleteActually reminds me of Patrick Berger.
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt he would be our best player. That's not the point. I just don't think it would be the best way to spend 50 + million or whatever he would cost. He's already 27. Imagine his wages too after being at PSG. They would be insane. He's obviously a very good player, but if I had to chose it would be Reus. Reus actually scored 21 goals and got 15 assists last year. That's 36 goals/assists in in 39 appearances. Cavani had 20 goals and 2 assists in 38 appearances. Reus has much better stats. The figures are from whoscored.com in case you're interested.
ReplyDeleteouch.
ReplyDeleteI know what your going through mate. I was stupid enough to buy a Iago Aspas shirt too. I gave mine to my girlfriend, when she wears it out people always say your missus knows fook all about football, buying a Aspas shirt. I just keep my mouth shut and let her take the blame.
ReplyDeleteHe brought this on himself.
ReplyDeleteSaying I want to win the league and then signing for Arsenal? He could have signed for Swindon and he would have the same odds.
I agree. Which is why we need at least two more strikers brought in.
ReplyDeleteI agree in the sense that with the way the team is constructed, we'll be playing 1 striker.
ReplyDeleteBut I think we need the flexibility of playing 2 strikers every game, and I'm not sure that Lambert or Sturridge can play every week.
Any chance we can avoid the Championship?
ReplyDeleteI thought you were allowed three bites.....
ReplyDeleteAn injury free Borini is a different proposition to an injured one.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. Arsenal will finish 4th as always and Sanchez will thenceforth look fondly - perhaps with a tear in his precious Chilean eye - toward Merseyside, wondering what could have been.
ReplyDeleteI was imagining what it would be like to become the unlucky victim of a polar bear rape attack.
ouch.
Your a big talker arent you?
ReplyDeleteWell if he would stop pulling his shorts so high and giving himself a wedgie.. The polar bear won't be so aroused!!!
ReplyDeleteOnce again he brought this on himself
Are you flirting with me?
ReplyDeleteYou tease
Can he fill the huge void left by aspas
ReplyDeletei spent all my money on Aspas even getting chinky eye surgery. but alas he was too good for us
ReplyDeletePerhaps in the team, but never in our hearts. Farewell, sweet Iago...until next season.
ReplyDeleteThe exact same stuff was said about Sturridge before he joined and now he is one of the best strikers in the EPL, If you believe in Rodgers ability to get the best out of his players than for me this is a no brainer. Especially if you are willing to pay 20m or more for Bony.
ReplyDeletei has an aspas shirt but i kept missing the bus when i wore it
ReplyDeleteAgree compared to Suarez the guy is good as gold, I hear a lot of people worrying about the guys ego, which IMO is a good thing, all the best players in the world have egos, let's not forget, the guy can score and create some class on the field.
ReplyDeleteMost importantly of all however, he is the one guy who will consistently entertain me every weekend, all that for 30 mill? Yes please
Bullcrabs
ReplyDeleteYawn
ReplyDelete
