As is always the case during transfer season, editorially bankrupt websites continually peddle fake, unattributed transfer 'rumours' (i.e. rumours with no credible source), and the latest whopper is LFC's alleged interest in Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus.
According to some sources, Liverpool are preparing a club record €55m bid for Reus, but according to Times journalist Tony Barrett, the link is fake. He tweeted earlier:
"Liverpool baffled by reports linking them with Marco Reus and insist they've shown no interest in him despite suggestions to the contrary".
I don't generally put much stock in transfer-related journalist quotes, but in this case, Barrett clearly suggests that he's had direct contact with LFC. He states that:
* Liverpool are 'baffled' by the reports, and:
* Have shown 'no interest' in the player.
Given Barrett's profile with The Times; history with the Liverpool Echo, and comparative reliability, it's reasonable to assume he has some contacts at Anfield, and I sincerely doubt he'd publicly lie to this extent. Additionally, considering the (tenuous) available evidence, Barrett's quote arguably carries the most weight.
In May, German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten named Reus as the player of the year, and when asked at the awards ceremony about his future, the 24-year old attacker told Reporters:
"We'll see. Every player only has one career and wants to get the best out of it. You have to decide what's best for you. At the end of your career, you want to be able to say that you've won many titles"
After his return from injury in February, 'amazing' Reus grabbed an incredible 19 goals/assists in 13 games for Dortmund, which is a Luis-Suarez level of creativity. Stats for the last three seasons:
* 127 apps
* 61 goals
* 29 assists
* Goal/Assist every 1.4 games
Fantastic stats, and Reus is exactly the level of player Liverpool should be targeting. Alas, like the Alexis Sanchez deal, this will have to remain a pipe-dream for Reds fans.

Tony Barrett is as reliable as they come and if he suggests it is a pipe dream then believe it. He was also the first to report LFC's approach for Markovic.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, why would Klopp want to sell Reus?
I want to know why we have no interest in him?
ReplyDeleteWe probably won't get him but he's a lot better than most of the players we've been linked with!
Seems a bit strange that we've moved so quickly to deny this rumour. We get linked to a lot of players, and I can't remember us ever doing this before. Part of me wonders whether we're doing our best not to get gazumped by a richer club.
ReplyDeleteWishful thinking!
I am sure many clubs have interest in him but what happens if you are told he is not for sale?
ReplyDeleteOf coarse Liverpool aren't in for him. He's class. Not in the "potential" category
ReplyDeleteI agree it's weird that we have quashed the rumours, yes it may be wishful thinking but he is the perfect replacement for Suarez, can play anywhere including upfront, to say he's not for sale is a joke when he has a buy out clause, and why wouldn't he want to leave a selling club like Dortmund. Just bid for him and see please. He's German so send didi round to drag him to Liverpool :), this would be the one signing that would make others sit up and respect us again after losing Suarez.
ReplyDeleteWishful thinking, yes, but we all are hoping and praying
Just wondering what good has it done for LFC in the transfer market with UCL football in the coming season. We are still unable to attract big names. The only possibility I can think of, maybe, is that we do ourselves no favor by preventing Spurs from acting as a bullet dodger for the club.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame LFC aren't interested in him, I'd much rather we spent £44m on proven quality in Reus, than £75m on three or 4 players that end up like Aspas
ReplyDeletehes no aspas
ReplyDeleteWhat is the bet that Aspas will have a good season in La Liga with Sevilla?
ReplyDeletereal Madrid to sign aspas for 90 million next summer. you've heard it here first
ReplyDeleteDon't be sarcastic. Aspas is going back to a league which he is suited to. Simple.
ReplyDeleteIt would be good if the transfer committee would just have a look at the forums and message boards all over the Internet. Just to see how much it would mean to the fans to see the money from the sale of suarez being reinvested in another top class talent!! We've bought a few squad players and they're all smart buys to be fair(maybe overspent on lallana and markovic, time will tell) but we(the fans) really need a world class player to get excited about! To get people to go out and buy season tickets/shirts/posters and all other sorts of merchandise, and that is exactly what Reus is... 'marketable'! His buy out clause(about €30m) is going to be triggered next year and he was open to leaving for Barcelona. So why don't we roll on up to klopp with a big wad of cash and go what's your number? Or we can come back next year and we'll know exactly how much to he'll cost.... Then we do the same to him! He's meant to be on something like 35g at the moment, upwards of a 100g plus if we tell him that he'll be or poster boy and main man might be enough to sway him! In other words they should be doing whatever it takes to get this guy!
ReplyDeleteive always admired aspas which is why i got chinky eye surgery.
ReplyDeleteSoldado too?
ReplyDeleteno theres only one aspas soldado just makes me cry
ReplyDeleteYou keep kidnapping people until you gain the right kind of leverage.
ReplyDeleteBusiness 101, amigo.
Thought so. Both are useless in the EPL.
ReplyDeletewe have aspas what more do u want
ReplyDeleteaspas is a great young player with many years ahead of him
ReplyDeleteOne season doesn't make up for the last several. Top top players are still skeptical. It will take several seasons constantly fighting near the top and CL for Liverpool to get the cream of the crop.
ReplyDeleteI reckon Pearce might have beaten Barrett to the punch on Markovic, but Barrett is very reliable.
ReplyDeleteReus will go nowhere, I think. Move next summer probably. If he does move, it won't be to us. We can't compete for a player of his calibre, it seems. Probably end up at United.
Well it is like people who think Cavani is on his way to Anfield.
ReplyDeleteVenus flytrap.
Eternally shite as our defence is, I'd be happy if we signed Reus and no-one else this transfer window.
ReplyDeleteHe's that good.
He'd be perfect for us too. For anyone impressed by Germany in the World Cup who doesn't really know Reus, I'm confident that he is the best German player around at the moment.
Aspas is a Rodgers' transfer flop. End of story.
ReplyDeletehes no aspas
ReplyDeletei doubt rodgers would have figured out that from the start unless he is Nostradamus.
ReplyDeleteHe's got to take some blame for how colossally pointless Aspas was, surely?
ReplyDeleteNo one is I'm afraid, matey.
ReplyDeleteerr do u live on my planet 31 goals last season
ReplyDeleteerr do u live on my planet 31 goals last season,,,
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure Rodgers has thought about it. Must be why he has sent him to Sevilla?
ReplyDelete1 in a million
ReplyDeleteand to think he was described as the Spanish Bellamy (aggressive, pacy and can get stuck in when needed)???
ReplyDeleteThe guy was a threatening as a 'wet tampon'
Not too sure what you're saying here, guv'.
ReplyDeleteJK said he was a flop. You mentioned Nostrodamus, which seemed to suggest Aspas' ineffectiveness couldn't be predicted which also appears to absolve Rodgers.
Am I misunderstanding the thread?
If someone threw a wet tampon at you, you'd panic though, right?
ReplyDeletei gave you a pointless downvote because you stole my comment.
ReplyDeleteDepend on the colour...
ReplyDeleteYou've got no time to think in that situation. You just act. Survival instinct mixed with girlish screams.
ReplyDeleteMisunderstanding what? If a player has not played much, gets ignored and is then sent on loan with an option to buy does that mean the manager is planing on keeping him? Would the manager have predicted this outcome before the player signed?
ReplyDeleteMaybe your right...
ReplyDeleteCOME BACK IAGO all is foregiven ..... bleed for our team
I'm saying I don't understand your point.
ReplyDeleteSaying that the manager could not have predicted that a player would not have much of an impact isn't really a defence.
I just don't understand the relevance of the Nostrodamus reference. This is why I want you to either correct me or explain yourself more. My reading of the Nostrodamus reference is that you are saying no-one could have predicted how pointless Aspas would be and the logical implication of that is that Rodgers can't really be blame for not predicting something that no-one else could have predicted either.
So can I conclude that BR did not know anything about Aspas before signing him?
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteOne with the face of aspas on it
Oh so Rodgers signed Aspas in order for him to fail?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you not understand?
its also safe to assume an ex player /coach like Thompson has contacts and he thought Sanchez had signed
ReplyDeleteYou clearly do not understand the point.
ReplyDeleteBe brutally honest with me: does this mean we're signing Reus?
ReplyDeleteIn a nut shell no ,may be he thought it was john arn reuss
ReplyDeleteYou just go in for him anyway just like Arsenal and barca went for Saurez when he wasn't for sale . If he has a buyout clause then they can say he's not for sale all day long to no effect . On the other hand it is quite frustrating as a liverpool fan that we do find it hard to attract the top players . Guess we're just have to rely on turning some of our youngsters into stars instead
ReplyDeleteRodgers' intentions/knowledge before signing Aspas is utterly irrelevant. Right now, after one season at the club, he is a flop, and waste of money.
ReplyDeleteLFC will have scouted Aspas before signing; done some intensive research etc. Rodgers has final say on transfers, and he made the choice to sign Aspas.
The buck stops with him, and Aspas is not now the *fifth* player signed by Rodgers to be farmed out on loan. That's £37m spent on players who've made zero impact for LFC. It's clearly not good enough, no matter how many pointless, circular arguments you try and cultivate.
You got a valid point, I think all the people that bought Suarez shirt last year would buy Reus shirt without even watch him kick a ball. He's not better than Suarez, but he's more adaptable the Luis. His stats are very good and has potential to get to a top 5 world player.
ReplyDeleteHe seems more of a marketing asset to, as apose to Suarez who could only endorse 'BBQ sauce'.
On the marketing side.... If Emre Can has a good season, can see hair product companies kick his door down. Dare I say Hendo's was so last year.
I think I've made it clear what I don't understand.
ReplyDeleteI literally wrote in my last post "I just don't understand the relevance of the Nostrodamus reference. This is why I want you to either correct me or explain yourself more".
The Nostrodamus reference (and your subsequent posts) seem to absolve Rodgers of the blame for a bad signing. My point is that if a player fails as much as Aspas did (which is totally) the manager has to take the blame.
I was a big Rafa supporter, but I'd never deny the Aquilani deal worked out terribly.
Equally I'm very much a fan of Rodgers but his transfer record is suspect.
rogers signed Aspas because for the most part he/liverpool are clueless when it comes to signing players
ReplyDeleteIndeed, would be an amazing signing but this level of player will never be available to us. It's become clear now that Rodgers is investing in youth and potential, despite the fact he's said the club are looking for "proven" players.
ReplyDeleteIMO a marquee signing would be a player of Sanchez and Reus' calibre, alas I think ours are the likes of Markovic and Lallana.
I don't think Reus' transfer clause is active until 2015.
ReplyDeleteFair enough, especially after the best player of the club left. LFC will soon be able to field an all-English team, this in itself is certainly no attraction to any big names round the world.
ReplyDeleteBooooo.
ReplyDeleteThat was your chance to comfort me with sweet lies.
I am not arguing that Rodgers does not have the final say. I have stated nothing of the sort. i have made it clear many times that Rodgers has the final say.
ReplyDeleteGo back to the post about me saying what is the bet that Aspas will have a good season with Sevilla.
Not sure what the issue is here.
And once again, you focus on part of the post that is least relevant to the discussion. As usual, discussing anything with you is an exercise in futility.
ReplyDeleteOne shaped like aspas
ReplyDeleteEnjoy an equally pointless upvote, you piece of shit.
ReplyDeletemy nose would hit the screen if i said we where signing reus....the closest we will get is reus abbott in pantomime in Liverpool ( sorry for the constant play on his name )
ReplyDeleteIt is not irrelevant. Refer back to my comment which started this discussion. The one you replied to.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the puns. Cheers me up because I fear we could fall behind in the Premier League title Reus.
ReplyDeleteI take it thats a league where the ability to play football isnt required
ReplyDeleteHo can you say Aspas didn't improve LFC?
ReplyDeleteThe previous season we lost to Oldham, his goal this season defeated Oldham. BR new why he signed Aspas, even if no one else can see it.
Put that in your stats book JK
It's a league where no-one is arsed about what you do because everyone's just watching Barca and Real. I saw Rakitic and Feghouli share a sandwich in the middle of the of the pitch last season. Ploughman's.
ReplyDeleteJoin the fanpage
ReplyDeletehe knew how to pronounce his name which for rogers is usually grounds to sign a player
ReplyDeleteShame B Rodgers does not want Reus(25), B Rodgers should offer Barcelona 23-27M for Pedro(26).
ReplyDeleteI am just gutted I Ayre did not make sure pedro(26) was part of the deal when we knew Sanchez(25) had his heart set on Arsenal.
I think Pedro(26) is a better fit for us, he is a class quality finisher, He is more of a goal threat and is faster and quicker than Sanchez(25).
At club we now have Coutinho(21), Suso(20), Lallana(26), Sterling(19), Ibe(18) and Markovic(20) who will create many chances for Sturridge(24) and Lambert(320 but Pedro(26) is more of a finisher than a creater and he would suit us well.
It is a league where you are allowed time on the ball and do not get flattened by a Flanagan tackle. Understand now?
ReplyDeleteI concur the skill and ability that aspas displayed shone through the club like a blinding light
ReplyDeleteWhen I watched him play, I certainly wished I was blind, so you're nearly right.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't Ian Ayre have Cojones like you. Instead he goes for transfer talk and comes back with a selfie of the teams chairman on his shoulders.
ReplyDeletethe only leauge he is suited to is is in jules vernes sub 20000 under
ReplyDeleteHad no idea Lambert was 320.
ReplyDeletethe universe can only support one player so poor or it would implode
ReplyDeleteThought that would be your answer when Aspas was a pretty decent player for La Liga but clearly got eaten up by the EPL.
ReplyDeleteListen, one phone call from big John Henry and it's a go. I'll do it.
ReplyDeleteI'll hogtie the lad and put him on the back of Ian Ayre's Harley Davidson and jump across the channel via a massive ramp to avoid the police.
I seriously sensed the desperation of BR after Aspas's corner kick in the losing home match against Chelsea...
ReplyDeleteAs long as he keeps it professional and doesn't go 420 like Wilshere.
ReplyDeleteIt was the desperation of every Liverpool fan in the world.
ReplyDeleteIn Thailand the concentrated groans registered on the Richter scale.
Well you have to ask who is doing the research on these players ...No size...No pace....no strength...ltd ability....lets pay 7m and stick him up front in the prem
ReplyDeleteSo can you please highlight that point of yours to me, clearly? BR is not responsible for any new signing's failure at the club?
ReplyDeletey are u deleting all my comments just because i proved u wrong is it a sign of arrogance last season without aspas oldham 3 liverpool 2 this year with aspas liverpool 1 oldham 0 last year without aspas 7th with aspas 2cnd
ReplyDeleteI think this should be the primary target for lfc. Everything we need to create goals/assists and adds that extra special something teammates can rally behind. For this price and what we just paid for msrkovic, this is a steal imo.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is also curious some have moved so quickly to deny these rumors. What is the harm with being linked to top class players other than the club not wanting to fuel the fire because they have no intentions of bringing in this type of player. Would be another upsetting saga with the target going to our rivals? I just see no other reason. I did not see any reports come out after we were linked with lukaku or another player nobody in lfc's fanbase wanted. Only the one who fans want but the club cannot or is not willing to acquire.
Still think we are cl qualifiers next year but with reus we eould again compete.
Maybe we will not be keen on signing player from Spain in future and I suggest we stay away from Italy too.
ReplyDeletejk is a stupid man
ReplyDeletejosiah krabapple?
ReplyDeleteYou still do not understand.
ReplyDeletey are u deleting all my comments just because i proved u wrong is it a sign of arrogance last season without aspas oldham 3 liverpool 2 this year with aspas liverpool 1 oldham 0 last year without aspas 7th with aspas 2cnd
ReplyDeletey are u deleting all my comments just because i proved u wrong is it a sign of arrogance last season without aspas oldham 3 liverpool 2 this year with aspas liverpool 1 oldham 0 last year without aspas 7th with aspas 2cnd.....
ReplyDeleteHonestly no need to be bitter.
ReplyDeleteSanchez was ideal and better suited for us. Sanchez does everything we want in a attacking sense and does the dirty work too for the team (tackling, pressing, tracking back).
It's a pity his missus is a Fashionista director type and wanted to live in Hipster London and be are trends.
Hope that Polar Bear finds you Sanchez!!
precisely this is our discussion we were having a joke maybe you can cheer up a bit
ReplyDeleteAt this rate, Lambert might outlive Moses.
ReplyDeleteprecisely he keeps deleting my comments i started this pointlesss argument in the first place
ReplyDeletejamie kuntface can delete our comments but he cant delete the truth
ReplyDeleteabout aspas
ReplyDeleteWhat's the truth about Aspas?
ReplyDeletethat he a wonderful young man
ReplyDeleteIs this Mama Aspas.
ReplyDeleteWhat the truth? May I guess - nobody scouted Aspas before he was signed!
ReplyDeleteThey obviously visit this site.
ReplyDeleteJK's stats what BR uses through the season to pick player.
Nah, Joe doesn't want his hair smelling of weed. Head and Shoulders would go apeshit if they found out.
ReplyDeleteIf he doesn't understand you could try and explain to him.
ReplyDeletehe was scouted but the scouts are cluless
ReplyDeleteWho and what was Nostradamus? I am going to predict that Reus will sign for us tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteyour bullshit article where you regurgitate the rumour mongering of so called "fake unattributed rumours" is a flop. End of story and of this drivel that you keep posting. And seriously, arnold as a profile pic ? U have serious issues son
ReplyDeleteSo after the kidnap, you'll live in a caravan.
ReplyDeleteThat way I will know your safe...
p.s. Don't cook Meth in their, you'll have people with soiled underwear and missing teeth knocking on your door.
More likely so...
ReplyDeletethe Spanish David Bellamy GRAPPLE ME GRAPE NUTS
ReplyDeletethere where no scouts available so rogers sent the local girl guides
ReplyDeletenever trust a country that has had fascist dictators
ReplyDeleteThat thinking is not for a team of LFC calibre! Sure some teams have more money it does not mean we are below them. LFC is an institution of greater calibre don't forget that.
ReplyDeletehe can watch aspas play if he wants a laugh
ReplyDeleteBrazil though. All there players are top notch.
ReplyDeleteNo evidence to the contrary exists.
the buck stops with rogers end of ...hes not being buckless rogers
ReplyDeleteLooooooooooooool, I just clicked on your name and all I see are a bunch of articles about some stalker lololololol. Again, not surprised, he probably got soo fed up with reading this constant bullshit of yours and decided to call u out on it. Not cool with the rape allegations but loooool I can't stop laughing. Maybe if u didn't post such fking rubbish people wouldn't care about harrassing u, just a thought....but hey, jamie....guess what...."I'll be back"....looooooooooooooool.
ReplyDeleteA question to JK! Why is it this so called reliable sources are quick to check on those facts when it has to do with a player of Reus calibre but not so much on some "deemed" lesser player??
ReplyDeletei think lucas flies in the face of that statement
ReplyDeleteDid you have trouble turning left and right, taking corners I mean?
ReplyDeleteHe was picked by our scouts, but it was the weekend all our scouts had a free 'Brazzers pass' online.
ReplyDeleteWhen asked by BR on Monday, who they all watched on video.
They all said ASS P*SS scenes (true story).
i was blind drunk once and they both looked good
ReplyDeleteYes. Soz
ReplyDeleteYeah those Germans are garbo
ReplyDeleteAt 15 mil worth a throw of the dice.
ReplyDeleteIf that that Mama Aspas.....Gawd, I want to do you against a corner flag.
ReplyDeleteWhat sites are you talking of Jaimie?
ReplyDeleteSoz accepted, la.
ReplyDeleteCool - might not be the most value for money, but might be. Could be worth spending big money for a player with the skills, drive, and name that will incite fear into opposition - Cavani has that.
ReplyDeleteAs for wages - France put a 75% tax on all earnings over 1m. So a nominal wage cut, won't affect his real wages (or other players from France).
Reus would be alright too.
Totally Agree, Mario needs to be an LFC player, guy needs stability and backing, no club will offer support and loyalty more than LFC,
ReplyDeleteHe is everything FSG want, young now cheap and talented, heaps of talent, he is a superstar waiting to be made everything is there,
Our club has a very humble attitude we don't breed egos here, will bring him down to earth, its got to happen, my mind will be blown if it doesn't happen everything fits.
Lets play Moneyball!!!
I think it was one media outlet that simply suggested Reus as a good option for Liverpool, a kind of "who could they get to replace Suarez" kind of story. Some other source then took that story and said "there are reports that Liverpool could be interested in Reus". A bunch of other sources then took that and ran the story "Liverpool to make audacious bid for Reus". Football media is 75% nonsense.
ReplyDeleteJaimie it's not about whether Barrett is lying, its about whether liverpool are lying to him or not. They could be using a smokescreen
ReplyDeleteEven cheaper now, I guess I'd be happy if Rodgers thinks he's good for the team. He certainly has the talent, if he can prove that he'll work hard and always play for the team then he'll fit in. You just don't want a player who goes into a sulk when things don't go his way. Suarez had a bit of that and expressed it with antics on the pitch. Balotelli has a similar streak. It all depends on how that manifests itself, how it's controlled and how it potentially effects the team. I guess I honestly don't know enough about him to make those kinds of conclusions so we can trust Rodger's judgement on this one.
ReplyDeleteBuying Bawlotelli is insane.
ReplyDeleteI think it all depends on what BR's plan is for next season. Obviously Sturridge will be our main goal threat, so it is important to buy an attacking player who primarily will play on the wing but may also play striker when Sturridge is out injured. Reus would be the ideal choice but maybe we don't have that pulling power yet.
ReplyDeleteAnother option would be Roberto Firmino. Primarily CAM but player winger and striker for a poor Hoffenheim last year but still managed 16 goals and 11 assists in 33 games! He is a great dribbler but also gets stuck in on defense. He could definitely get the goals we need from midfield next season, and he is only 22! I hear his price is 15 million and if so that's a steal.
Well Can is looking rather dapper, but I feel Hendo was hard done by to be overlooked by h&s.... Who knows if Reus joins us we can just make our own hair products! Do the ads in a certain set of all white suits and we'll be rolling in it!!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter what you, or we, think, the reality is that Dortmund are a massively important club right now and look like staying that way for the foreseeable future. There are two or three clubs that can pick their players up, and then only with a struggle, and we're not one of them.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how that phone call went..
ReplyDeleteTB: Hi Ian, Tony here. Is it true that you've bid 40 million for Reus?
Ayre: Who?
TB: Reus? German international? World Champion? 30 goals in 62 games for Dortmund?
Ayre: Dortmund?
TB: Yes. Champions League finalists in 2013?
Ayre: Listen, I don't know if you're trying to be funny or not by calling me and asking about made up players and made up clubs but 40 million would buy us three, maybe four players who have yet to achieve anything in their career so why would I buy one if I could have four? Anyway, let me check with Brendan. Brendan!
BR: Aye
Ayre: Do you know who Reus is?
BR: Does he play for a mid table EPL team?
Ayre: No....a place called Dortmund?
BR: Never heard of it or him.
Ayre: Sorry Tony, never heard of him.
TB: Would you say you are baffled?
Ayre: What's baffled?
TB: I'll take that as a yes. Thanks.
