Last night, Liverpool's defeat to Manchester United highlighted yet again the urgent need for a defensive overhaul at Anfield, and the full-back positions remain an urgent priority. Glen Johnson, in particular, needs to be relegated to the bench, and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers reportedly has a potential replacement in mind.
According to The Telegraph today, Liverpool are considering a bid for £16m-rated Barcelona right-back Dani Alves, a player Rafa Benitez tried to sign back in 2008.
Barca boss Luis Enrique is allegedly keen to cash-in on Alves now, as the Brazilian will be able to leave for free next summer.
In a 2012 interview with Sports Illustrated, Benitez explained:
"Daniel Alves was our first option on the right side. The problem that we had was that I had to decide to bring Alves as a winger when he was an offensive full-back"
The irony here is that if Liverpool had signed Alves back in 2008, then Johnson - the player Alves would replace - may never have been signed in the first place (!)
As much as Johnson needs to go, I don't see the sense in bringing in an older defender in his place. Alves is 31 now, and his best years are behind him. Granted, if the Reds can get him for £5m - a 70% discount on his most recent reported transfer value - then it's probably good business, but is Alves a significant *defensive* upgrade on Johnson?
Going forward, Alves - recently described by Brazil's President as 'brave and strong' for his classy reaction to racism - is an exciting player, but at this stage, defensive solidity is the name of the game for Liverpool, and I'm not sure the Brazilian is the best option in that regard.
Worth a bid?

On every website, people are just cursing Liverpool every chance they get. Now we wont finish in top 4 let alone challenging for the title they say because we lost to ManU.
ReplyDeleteBut i actually feel confident with what i saw. We will be a force next season again if we do these things:
1. Sign a top striker. I dont mean a striker signed for huge money but one who can get he job done
2. Kick Johnson out of starting 11 and buy a proper replacement.
Hope you're right, but I fear we are in deep trouble.
ReplyDeleteit doesn't matter if we lost against manu but we should play well in order to get the title/s and WE TRUST IN BR
ReplyDeleteTypical Knee jerk stuff. Had we won, people would probably say the title was ours.
ReplyDeleteQuote from above:
ReplyDelete"but is Alves a significant *defensive upgrade to Johnson?"
Well I am significant upgrade to Johnson, 53 retired engineer!!!
Seriously Glenn is so poor (and was all last season) that Alves at the right price would be immense while over a year or two we develop others.
Don't particularly want Alves, good player but is it worth it, I'm not convinced. I'd be happy with Flannagan starting as RB with Johnson to push. Hopefully it'd give him the impetus to sort himself out (especially given he'd be playing for a new contract either with us or some other club).
ReplyDeleteMoreno with Enrique as above and our FBs would be decent though granted not world beaters.
I'm also quite happy with our CBs 2 of Skrtel Sakho Lovren would have to be our first choice with Toure Coates and Agger as back ups. Hopefully Ilori does go out on loan again. 1 more season and he should be pushing the somewhat ageing Skrtel.
I'm also quite happy if not ecstatic with our CM and DM options Can (beastly so far but I'll reserve judgement till October) Gerrard Lucas Allen Henderson seems like a plethora of options.
AMs and Wingers we have plenty.
But I would like one more quality striker, especially given injury concerns for Studge.
Studge Lambert plus one more should be ok, with Sterling able to operate further forward if necessary.
Alves probably is a slight upgrade on Johnson, but only for a year.
ReplyDeleteI think signing someone with a bit more of a future would be much more beneficial.
ManU played their starting 11 and we were playing with 5 starters and missing Lallana and Markovic as subs. Even then we owned first half and in the second half Gerrard, Hendo got tired and Johnson again showed his class. No biggie
ReplyDeleteWith us so close to signing the Spanish lad on loan I doubt this story has any legs.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool-kop: Expect the Worst, Hope for the Best.
ReplyDeleteAll we need is a good striker and we will be fine.
Admit I didn't see the second half but without Sterling we are toothless. City completely outplayed us, the gulf in class was frightening, and against a poor United in transition we lose 3-1. I'm very worried.
ReplyDeleteI think we played quite well and should have had 2 pens. Lambert and Coutinho should have buried their chances and then, we could have been 4-0 up. I was reluctant at first but the more I think about it, the more Lavezzi seems a good option. Apart from Gerrard, Skrtel and Agger, no one in our team has solid CL experience( more than 15 games). Lavezzi is experienced and could be a bargain at 18 mil. As for Johnson, we are hopefully getting the replacement in Manquillo.
ReplyDeleteHe will have to sign lots more then just Alves
ReplyDeleteKelly allen and Johnson Lucas were Sh$T house
100% need Dominating midfielder top class striker left right back.
It's pre-season - don't read too much into it. we just need a striker mate and we'll do well :-)
ReplyDeleteChelsea lost to Werder Bremen 3-0. I do not see anybody worried about them. Relax and have faith in the team.
ReplyDeleteDifference is they have a team of £30-40 million players who you know can turn it on. We don't. But I am praying daily that I'm wrong and you're right.
ReplyDeleteLol we played with Kelly and Robinson..striker like Lambert and defence without any new arrivals still we gave them run for their money. I have no doubts this season we will kick their butts. U can think whatever u like
ReplyDeleteLol we played with Kelly and Robinson..striker like Lambert and defence without any new arrivals still we gave them run for their money. I have no doubts this season we will beat them. U can think whatever u like
ReplyDeleteWe will require a similar goal tally to last season and tighten up on defence. I believe we will be better and concede less this year.
ReplyDeleteNow there is no Suarez replacement out there, he was unique!
We have much more creativity in the midfield this year and I think some amount of goals coming from there and another proven 20 goal man will work.
Thing is my fear is strikers as I am basing my assumption on two strikers netting between 40 and 50 between them.
Sturridge will be injured at least a few times in the season I fear and will always be playing catchup!!
So we really have Lambert at the moment! I genuinely think we need two if Borini goes, and I think Borini will go if we get replacements. However I think that will become another gamble as I think Sunderland will pull the plug if no deal in a couple of days!!
We CANT let him go if not guaranteed 2 more stikers coming in!
don't under-estimate what we have!!! Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge, lallana, Makovic, Ibe, Gerrard, Hendo to name a few. full backs are signing soon, so we just need a stirker. i'd love reus but Bony will do. we'll be alright
ReplyDeleteMate i think u have never seen Markovic play?? I have and i am not worried. Our Ibe is easily as good as Januzai , we just neeed to finish in top4 and that means we just have to be better than ManU and Spurs which i think we can
ReplyDeleteWe really just need to sign a center forward. We were clearly miles better than United in the first half. But to be honest - I dont really care and you shouldnt either. It's more annoying that its United. And I think thats whats winding everyone up. I'm pretty sure that they will struggle to win anything this year. Unless they go all out in the Cup... Still, no one should be expecting to win the league. I'm not. Chelsea probably will; though I'd rather us obviously ... or Arsenal.
ReplyDeleteGet in those fullbacks. Sign Bony ... maybe get Isco on Loan? Thats a pretty fucking good team right there.
I'm not sure any of them would start for City or Chelsea. If Brendan gets us in the top 4 I think it would be a massive achievement, indeed over-achievement.
ReplyDeleteLallana rejected Chelsea for us think before u write
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed, and yes I only saw Markovic briefly on the US tour, but as for being better than United and Spurs then it's not looking good is it. I suspect Lukaku for Everton might be a better signing than anything we've managed.
ReplyDeleteI would take Coutinho over Oscar anyday and would also take Sterling over Willian, Nasri and Sturridge over Torres and Dzeko.
ReplyDeleteLallana rejected sitting on the Chelsea bench to play for us. Think before you condescend.
ReplyDeleteSterling is the one bright spark, but I doubt he can do a Suarez and drag a top 6 team into the top 2.
ReplyDeleteTop 4 is always tough, but don't forget, our young players have another years experience in the bag and should really be looking to deliver even more this year. Rodgers is a fantastic coach and the players seem to all think very highly of him, so don't be surprised if we do well again this year
ReplyDeleteDon't tell posters to 'think' before they write. Stick to discussing the issues. Comments like that do not further debate.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping.
ReplyDeleteFoullani i am sorry but he is being extremely pessimistic
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree. Suarez did not drag us into the top 2. The team ethic we developed and the passion with which we were playing took us to the top.
ReplyDeleteI hope I can look back on this conversation in 10 months time and agree with you. I fear though you mistake realism for pessimism.
ReplyDeleteOver achievement? I dont think so. Go and watch the match again. Every time Liverpool got possession we got thru MU defence without any problems but that donkey of a striker was no where to be seen and thats why we lost. second half they targetted Johnson and all 3 goals came from left side. MU had majority of possession but couldnt do anything with it. go watch it again u will see wat i am saying
ReplyDeleteThat and half our goals scored or supplied by Suarez. I think you have to look at the performance in the US and be realistic. City and Chelsea are a class above us, Arsenal always finish top 4 and that leaves with a dodgy defence and toothless attack to compete with United, Spurs and Everton. Worrying times for me.
ReplyDelete70% suarez goal came against bottom 6 team. How many did he scored or assisted against Arsenal (5-1) ManC( 3-2)
ReplyDeleteI will, but I think a good dose of realism all round for Liverpool fans is required at the moment. I think last season basically courtesy of Suarez has raised expectations too high.
ReplyDeleteWhen you're facing the best player in the world defences will leave spaces for others. This year, not so much.
ReplyDeleteThat is his right, just as it's your right to be extremely optimistic.
ReplyDeleteI am a pessimistic but i believe what i see. When Kenny Dalglish was the manager i always felt that Liverpool wouldnt achieve anything and i was right. But this Liverpool team is very fluid and unpredictable. Even we fans cant predict who will score in the next game. We will get top 4 if we get a fullback and a striker
ReplyDeleteNo one hopes you're right more than me.
ReplyDeleteOk i giveup...we will see later who was right and who was wrong
ReplyDeleteHope it's you.
ReplyDeleteEven last season, they were supposedly a class above us. Nobody expected us to finish in the Top 4, let alone challenge for the title. We do not have a "toothless attack". By this, you are saying that Suarez was our attack and without him, our attack is useless which is just not true. Everybody played an equal role in the team. For example, if you look at Sterlings first goal against Arsenal, Hendo totally pressured Ozil into giving away the ball creating the opening but that is not accounted in the stats book. We cannot assume that all these teams will have some amazing season. I for one thought Spurs would do great last season but they miserably failed. How do you know Chelsea will not do the same or City will implode? There are no guarantees in the PL.
ReplyDelete"Everybody played an equal role in the team."
ReplyDeleteNot sure there are too many people queuing up to pay £75 million for Coutinho or Sturridge.
Yay i agree. It was not like the Torres days were Gerrard puts a ball in and Torres used his quality to finish while rest of the squad looks at 2 of them
ReplyDeleteAll the US games were so late in the evening that I'm struggling to remember all of them. Did we score any good goals? I remember Sterling got one when a mis-hit Sturridge shot flukily landed at his feet and Gerrard got a penalty.
ReplyDeleteYou seriously cannot judge the quality of a player by the teams interested in them. So, by your logic, Andy Carroll is better than Sturridge because we were lining up to pay 35 mil for Carroll but only 12 mil for Sturridge. When Suarez played for Ajax, did Barca want him or did Real want him? When Ronaldo played for Sporting Lisbon, he was rejected by so many teams and only when Red Nose took a punt on him that he became the star he is today. Money is an arbitrary measure of things in the football world.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, that is how we are perceived in the eyes of other fans and even our own fans because they have been made to think like that.
ReplyDeleteNot sure money is an arbitrary measure. I think it can measure two things, quality of the player or desperation of the buyer.
ReplyDeleteIn Suarez's case it's a reflection of the quality of the player, in Carroll's case it was all about the desperation of the buyer.
B Rodgers does not need to sign D Alves(31), What we desperately need after today's performance like i have been saying for year and half is a real mobile tough tackling DM as in S Gerrard(34) and L Leiva(27) , we have no mobility and not enough cover in front of the back 4.
ReplyDeleteAnd the 2nd and 3rd goal last night were similar goals we conceded last season, where opposition got between DM and CB's and shot from outside box to score ( Arsenal ( Ramsey), Hull ( Huddlestone and Livermore) )
B Rodgers needs to spend £15-£20M on B Matuidi(27) Of PSG or £5-£8m On E Banega(26) Of Valencia as we are going to concede alot of goals again this season whether we bring in two good class quality full backs in to club, as the protection in front of back four is simply not good enough,
E Can(21) is not a DM, he is a CM.
And in J Allen(24), J Henderson(24) , E Can(21) and P Coutinho(21) offer the defenders very little protection.
So your understanding pessimistic that Liverpool is very Fluid and unpredictable.
ReplyDeleteOptimistic . is the Word
For once, i agree with you. Matuidi is a player that oozes quality and will offer us steel in midfield. Not sure about the price though. We should not sign Ever Banega. If anyone, sign Matuidi.
ReplyDeleteWhy would he move from Paris to Liverpool??
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying he will and he most probably would not but if were to sign a DM, Matuidi would be the man.
ReplyDeleteWe aint Chelsea or Manc. We cant buy players for every position in one window. We can only if we sell ALLen Borini and Johnson.
ReplyDeleteWe just need to adjust. buying full backs and striker are the need of the hour
lucas allen toure coates kelly and johnson have to go ..the system and style we play does not suit them ..none of them are comfartable on the ball most panic in posession they usually look to pass it back the way...if we replace theese players with top 6 players we will do well ...mignolet desperately needs to work on his distribution or he can go aswell..lovern moreno and can will help us defensively but we need 1more dm of high quality ....just get 1 more striker and we are set...last year i thought we could win the league before the first game this year i think we will get top 4 ..if we sort out defence and sell a few we will not conceed 51 goals we are moving in the right direction ..in 2 years we will be bogey freeand playing some of the best football in the world not bad for a team that benitez and hodgson wrecked
ReplyDeleteI feel like Lambert is suffering from the first goal curse, and if pre season performances are anything to go by, then I'd prefer he be shyte now... remember when we got that Aspas fool... he was great in pre-season.
ReplyDeleteJohnson needs to bench it! Flanners for now and then Manquillo to finish strong...
Lovren hopefully will enforce some composure at the back in pressure situations...
Well if B Rodgers doesn't try we will not know, we desperately need a B Matuidi(27) Or J Mascherano(29) type player at club.
ReplyDeleteIf we could get Alves to replace Johnson for a couple of seasons I'd be happy. Apart from anything else, Flanno and Manquillo need to learn from someone and if that ends up being Johnson, I foresee some very bad defending in our future
ReplyDeleteSterling is not the only bright spark. We have coutinho, Hendo, Can and Sakho have all been really bright in recent times... Not to mention Ibe, wo I'm sure will see action this year...
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect even I being a huge Liverpool fan wouldnt move from PSG to LFC. Can you think of a single reason why he would prefer to move?
ReplyDeleteUnderstudies from a CL winning player that has played a similar style to that of BR most of his career. Immense is definitely the word sir ;)
ReplyDeleteI feel sterling should be our second striker! Midfield of Gerrard, Hendo, Can and Coutinho
ReplyDeleteSigning Alves makes sense if we do sell Johnson for a similar amount. Selling Johnson would leave us with Flanagan and that Spanish kid we're about to sign which basically lacks experience. I'm all for it.
ReplyDeleteMascherano just signed a new contract at barca. I think you've been playing fantasy manager for far too long and think the club can just go out and sign anyone they want or that you can just go around clubs making bids left, right and centre. This is real life and it doesn't work like that. At least you left Thiago Alcantara off your list for once. Looking forward to your next list of players that we're never gonna sign in a million years
ReplyDeleteGood option if we play 3 at the back, he'd effectively play as a right winger. It perhaps suggests how Rodgers doesn't have a great defensive focus in what he's trying to do at the club, although I wasn't complaining last season, it's certainly exciting to watch. No, it doesn't solve any defensive issues. I don't think Moreno will either, nor Manquillo. Rodgers just doesn't seem interested in defensive minded wing backs. Consider that Moreno has less impressive defensive stats than Johnson and was our number one target for the position. It's a nervous time for those who are already anxious about the club's defensive frailties.
ReplyDeleteGo watch the two goals from the City game.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we should read too much into this pre-season friendly, after all we did beat Man City in this tournament. We did ok in the first half against United and with Bony or Sturridge in the team we would have had more of a goal threat. My personal sense, and this is obviously just my own personal take, is that the 2 Manchester teams and Arsenal will get Champion's League berths which leaves us fighting with Chelsea (can't see them finishing higher than that), Spurs and Everton for 4th spot. With a really decent striking signing- Bony would be ok in this respect- and some decent full backs we should just about make it into the top 4.
ReplyDeleteNO STRIKERS MEAN WE HAVE NO HOPE - AS MICHAEL OWEN POINTS OUT AND BOOKIES TREATING US AS NO- HOPERS WITHOUT SUAREZ.WORSE OFF NOW THAN WE WERE WHEN WE TRIED TO SIGN DEMPSEY - PRAY SUNDERLAND TAKE BORINI
ReplyDeleteSTOP FAFFING AROUND B R
ReplyDeletei dont kno what to say to you. If you place ManU above Chelsea then i havent got anything to say.
ReplyDeleteMATE, WHY DO ALWAYS TYPE IN CAPS?
ReplyDeleteJamie,
ReplyDeleteWhy not? He's a winner with Barcelona and will boost attacking in the flanks... Johnson should leave. Hope QPR comes in for him and pay him the wages he earns now...
Regarding transfer news, we are close to signing Moreno and Manquillo. So, the defensive reinforcements will be solved. However, that leaves us with the potential marquee signing. Fans are dreaming we pull off a deal for Marco Reus.. Unless we make a enquiry and formal bid, it's all paper talk.
By the way, there's one player I would love to see Liverpool buy.. And that man is Mario Gomez who currently plays his trade in Italy with Fiorentina. Have we forgotten him? Why no one mentions about him? With Suarez gone, it's hard for Liverpool to attract top replacement like Benzema and Falcao. So, if there's any player with vast international and club experience who can bang in regular goals with consistency, the German striker ticks all boxes.. Worth a bid for Gomez? I believe we can get him for less than 15-20m... What are your thoughts on that Jamie?
2010...24% people thought Liverpool will win the league. What happened next? We finished 7th
ReplyDeleteYesterday I would have said yes. However watching Lambert dog trot behind the ball for 60 minutes, nearly fall over attempting a weak shot that should have been a goal, I am no longer interested in aging relics. You get what you pay for and if we can get Morenothen skip Alves and use the money to get a better #2 striker,
ReplyDeleteWe should definitely sign him if he is available at that price.
ReplyDeleteIt's the media my friend. They have duped everyone into thinking that they are still a European powerhouse.
ReplyDeleteIts only preseason if you went on last seasons pre season matches you would have expected us to be playing championship football this year.
ReplyDeleteIt means nothing absolutely nothing.
Did we not win 6 out of 7 pre season matches last year?
ReplyDeleteHow many people think we will win the league this year?
ReplyDeleteyeah look how impressive they were struggled to beat Melbourne victories b side barely impressive at all the Asian games should have been thrashings but weren't.
ReplyDeleteI remember that Sir Iago was a star during that pre season. I wonder if he turned out any good...
ReplyDeleteVoronin comes to mind there too.
ReplyDeleteplease no more has beens we have got enough at the club...we really need to start to break the cycle of paying big wages and conracts to the over 30 brigade ...it should be one year deals with bonus and number off games played add ons
ReplyDeletethats two big ifs
ReplyDeleteDidn't you write in another article that getting Moreno and Manquillo was risky because they were unproven talent? I'm going to get lambasted for saying this, but we need a lot of help still. Alves can has tons of experience and can provide leadership to the younger players. I hope it goes through because I am tired of watching Johnson. Martin Kelly sucks. Enrique is so so. The only good option we have at full back at the moment for the season is Flanagan.
ReplyDeletealves will want mega wages coupled with a fee...i have followed alves for most of his carrer and he has gone off the boil in the last 12 months
ReplyDeletetwo ...rogers and gerrard
ReplyDeleteWell you better tell B.R i think we do need another quality finisher although i still would not bother taking notice of pre season garbage.
ReplyDeletepray being the optimum word as it will be miraculous if they hand over 14m for a 5m player
ReplyDeletethe grand national and a tour of the cavern
ReplyDeleteChelsea now are now doing things right, selling then buying players. But they are bringing in class, experienced quality players. B Rodgers needs to ship out all the players who are not good enough for club or he does not have faith in asap:
ReplyDeleteBoth GKS: P Reina and B Jones
RB'S : Kelly and Johnson are both not cutting it at all
CB'S: Coates, Toure need to be shipped out and also D Agger won't shut up about being on bench so B Rodgers should ship out also.
DM: L Leiva him and S Gerrard(34) both have no mobility, pace or speed to move all over pitch and nulify attacks. But S Gerrard(34) is Legend and should be used wisely from the bench. B Rodgers should bring in £10-£14M selling L Leiva
RW: O Assaidi stoke desperately want him, but do not want to pay £7M for him, they have offered £5. Both teams should meet half way and he should be sold for £6M
FD: F Borini(23) should be sold to Sunderland, B Rodgers needs to stop faffing about and say Fabio you are not good enough to displace Sturridge or Lambert and i think you will be better suited to Sunderland and then that would bring another £14M into club.
I have been saying for years we need a Mascherano and Sissoko type defensive midfielder as our back four does not have enough protection.
That is why B Rodgers should offer £17-£20M to PSG For M Matuidi(27) Or B Munich £55M for the combined duo of J Martinez(26) and T Alacantra(23)
As the way we play we leave our centre backs exposed and without energetic mobile quick tough tackling defensive midfielder even if we bring in the three better defensive players we are going to concede goals as the protection in front of them is poor to be honest.
New Challenge.
ReplyDeletefirst and foremost we need defenders that can defend and having watched Alves in the world cup, I don't think he can defend. It's all very well if you are Barcelona (in their heyday) and have 75% possession to have full backs who are wingers, but we are not Barcelona a la Guardiola...
ReplyDeletejoker, read the post before you respond. A Mascherano type player, I Know Mascherano(29) just signed a new contract. But i think the best DM in world at moment is B Matuidi(27) and if B Rodgers was to offer £17-£20M we could bring him to club this summer. And the thing is since B Rodgers reign we have not signed one world class signing and we are now in Champions league, the best of the best and youth and potential are not what will determine how far you go in that competition class, quality and goals will.
ReplyDeleteT Alacantra(23) is the Ayre to Xavi in the spanish national team and he is not a guaranteed starter at Bayern Munich. A player who can speed up and slow the tempo of game against any opposition is a player we should be going all out to bring to club.
Most of the best teams in europe strengthened in centre midfield with one world class signings:
Barcelona: Rakitic
Real Madrid: Kroos and Rodriguez
Chelsea: Fabregas
Man City: Fernando
Man United: Herrera
And Arsenal will bring in Kheidira once he lowers he comical wage demands.
Our central midfield options of little protection to our back 4 and that needs to be rectified soon
With our pressing and his speed and ball control, plus Hendo, Lallana being able to track back very well- he would be an excellent option for a few years- by than top players will be much more attracted to our club.
ReplyDeleteStockpiling on the other hand might be a problem- hope BR has a way to offload GJ...
We are becoming the next big thing in world football- it could work for us too(having a great fullback going forward, and nothing special in defense)
ReplyDeleteGomez is a very good shout actually.. He could't be too expensive, but how old is he?
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for QPR..
I am torn because it was a pre-season warm-up, but Lambert was useless. Glenn Johnson was worse than useless.
ReplyDeleteHere is one.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. Except for the million ponds we would spend on his wages..
ReplyDeleteThe club do not want to give a world class GK for free to a potential champions league rival. I think , hope and pray that B Rodgers ships out the 10 players i always mention are simply not good enough or no longer good enough for our club:
ReplyDelete10 players: B Jones and B Jones GK'S
S Coates, K Toure and D Agger CB'S
M Kelly and G Johnson RB'S
L Leiva DM
O Assaidi RW
F Borini FD
Those 10 players would bring to club £35-£45M worth of sales and no wonder or team concedes so many goals, out of the 10 players mentioned. 8 of them are defensive players who offer rarely any class, quality competition to the first team players ahead of them.
B Rodgers needs to desperately bring in at least these 6 player this summer:
Defensively:
A Mccarthy(24) Of Reading for £4-£6M GK
B Matuidi(27) Of PSG for £17-£20M DM
T Alderwield(25) Of A Madrid for £6-£8M CB
A Moreno(22) Of Seville for £15-£17M LB
Offensively:
Pedro(26) Of Barcelona for £20-£26M and lastly W Bony(25) Of Swansea for £15-£18M
Those two players would bring to club GUARANTEE an extra 25-35 goals a season to club
Because no offence to R Lambert(32) we the way we play we need more mobility, pace, power and speed in our attack and Guaranteed goals.
I am not going on preseason i have already stated its garbage none the less look at the other top 5 clubs and tell we don't need another good finisher who fits our system.
ReplyDeleteI know.. And we do need another one, but maybe that train has left . With just a bit of luck with DS health, amazing midfield we have and some good performances from Lambert, we might get by for this year.. And Borini not leaving might prove itself a blessing in disguise..
ReplyDeleteThe button is stuck?
ReplyDeletereally fella's we didn't host a first squad team and well looky here, manu had their whole squad.Besides this is pre season
ReplyDeleteThats a bit of a big roll of the dice especially when we could manage to pay good money for one my concern at the moment is our slowness in selling some its coming up to sell to buy time soon.
ReplyDeleteI expect Agger and Borini to be sold by the end of the week. The only reason Borini is still our player imo is that BR sees him as solid back up should our Remys fail..
ReplyDeleteThey were saying the same before we begin last season though
ReplyDeletemake it four then
ReplyDeleteLambert was brought in by BR to run through parked buses IMO. He is not a Suarez or Sturidge type of striker but he is different than the other two. He can run through parked buses while SAS can't.
ReplyDeleteFinally someone not afraid of optimism..
ReplyDeleteWhen you're facing team full of amazing players defences won't know who to cover.
ReplyDeletesturridge and sterling wouldn't start for City or Chelsea? Funny joke. Stop being so pessimistic we have a very strong team which needs strengthening in key areas thats obvious but we arent in as bad shape as many seem to believe. We dominated that game for long periods of time and their goals weren't a true indication of the flow of the game. Trust in BR. Sterling and Coutinho ripped United to shreds many many times. Throw Studge in there and we have a clinical striker to finish off the chances.
ReplyDeleteI think Marco rojo is the best option for Liverpool
ReplyDeleteTalk is Bayern snapped up Reina so there is a little bit of money especially wages.
ReplyDeleteOut Agger, Johnson, Reina. In Marco rojo, reus, falcao would be a dream
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree with the quaity difference between the two teams, but that doesn't excuse the poor play of both Johnson and Lambert. It didn't matter whether we were playing ManU or 'the little sisters of the poor,' Lambert was invisible and Johnson was too glaringly, horribly, visible.
ReplyDelete
