Liverpool have officially confirmed that Luis Suarez is leaving Anfield this summer for Barcelona.
A terse statement on the official LFC website reads:
"Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.
"We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield. Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future".
Luis Suarez's statement:
"It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city. But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.
"I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife's family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.
"I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I'm sure will be successful again next season. I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League.
"Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You'll Never Walk Alone."

Don't say "I told you so", because a) you've been saying for over a year he'll leave the next transfer window, and b) the bite on Chiellini changed the whole game.
ReplyDeleteCan't say it hasn't been coming ! It still does feel a little sad though.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, onwards and upwards !!
This overwhelming feeling of deep sadness came upon me when I saw the official news. It's time for him to go, but I'm really going to miss him.
ReplyDeleteI don't need to say 'I told you so' - it's been obvious that Suarez would leave sooner rather than later. The point I've made is that he *wanted* to leave, and would've left if given the chance. He wanted to leave last summer, but LFC put the blockers on. And even without the bite, Suarez still would've left this summer (IMO).
ReplyDeleteAt least it seems we got 75mill pounds (per sky/bbc) for him unlike the lesser fees being talked about by some media sources in the last few days.
ReplyDeletewe'll never know for certain if he would of left, provided us with great goals/memories, honestly hope he does well at barca except if against us. we move on
ReplyDeleteAll I can add to that is; farewell Luis, you beautiful, majestic, bat-sh1t crazy, bedlamite genius, you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck LS.
ReplyDeleteTq very much for your 75m...
See u at CL games
however Guillem Balague saying that it is 81mill euro which is significantly less about 64mill pounds. Disappointing if we could not squeeze more out....Ayre again
ReplyDeleteGood, just don't say it.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool Barca to meet in the CL?
ReplyDeletegreat player, but too many issues, not enough tissues. Wish him luck. And thanks for the help getting back to the CL.
The time was right I think.
Would be interesting if he bit one of his old teammates.
ReplyDeleteWho?
ReplyDeleteGreat player, thanks for the memories and good luck! Life goes on...
ReplyDeleteI think that might be the initial payment but with further payments due.
ReplyDeleteLet's look at the bright side of this, a player that would have left for 40 million pounds last year has left for almost twice that. We now have champions league, and most of our players have yet to enter their prime.
ReplyDeleteAll things considered if there was any time for Suarez to leave and not destroy our club's performance, it would be now. (I am making a big assumption that at least 50% of BR's transfers will pan out though).
What if one of his old teammates bit him?
ReplyDeleteMIND BLOWN
I am not as kind as you and I love Liverpool with all my heart. I want him to fail and miss the times he had at Liverpool just like Torres. Torres won all the trophies but i wonder if he got any joy by winning them.
ReplyDeleteHe signed the contract in December, which in my opinion, was all about getting a raise and for establishing a more ironclad release clause.
ReplyDeletedeal was signed between LFC and Barca in december itself. Didnt u ever wondered why Suarez suddenly signed a new contract without problems.
ReplyDeleteWhen Jaimie K brought out that article " Suarez's 4 step plan to exit" . I never believed for a second that Suarez would leave. But quick it dawned upon me that Jaimie was totally correct. Make no mistake guys Luis maybe good with a ball but he has got absolutely no character or self-respect. He would have even let his wife go out with Barca chairman if that could secure his move. Well it had to happen and it did. Please just finish in top 4 this season and i would be ecstatic
ReplyDeleteHe will be missed, happy Liverpool is responsible for the final development of one of the best players in the world. A fact that enhances the legacy of the club and will hopefully help attract others looking to make a step up in their games. No bitterness here, good luck Luis!
ReplyDeleteI think we have sold him at the best possible time. He has been at his peak for 2 years now and his form will go down in next 2 years for sure. Also he is 27+ now , if we waited for 1 more year, 28+ striker doesnt look much financially viable. Luis was a like a gf we are not able to get over, but we need to for better or worse. I believe we have done ourselves a favour by selling him but we must not rush any signings, we must not underestimate ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI think moving to a top rival in the same league is more of a slap in the face, however I also still remember the great goals performances torres had for us, players come and go. Just a shame that neither stayed to achieve true legendary status. Still a great player going to another great club and wish him well. Like I said as a club we move on.
ReplyDeleteBut he can't leave. His kids are going to school here ! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and he's right too. It's the right thing to do on a personal level and why would anyone turn down the chance to play with Messi and Neymar when all his current club does to build on a fantastic season is bring in Lallana and a few squad players.
ReplyDeleteI used to love Torres more than i loved Suarez. Suarez never had any emotional connection with us and he never tried to anyways. But Torres was different and without doubt his departure was lot more painful
ReplyDeleteWho on earth is going to wear 7 now? We finally had a player worthy of it after the Smicers and Kewells of this world. The only one I can see is Sterling..
ReplyDeletePlus, even though he has plenty of time to fully recover, that pre-WC knee injury could come back to haunt him.
ReplyDeletePlus he said that his kid is a Scousser, as himself.
ReplyDeleteClassy bringing his family into it!! The guy did wrong on football field but you do not know him personally to comment on his character. I heard no bad stories about off field antics whilst he's been with us, in fact the opposite that he is a quiet family man. There is many a english/pl player that has had off field issues which can lead you to question their character.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your problem?!?
ReplyDeleteThe answer is clearly Aspas.
ReplyDeleteDid I ever wonder why?
ReplyDeleteI just explained it in my previous post.
Yes the iconic seven...sterling would be the obvious one that springs to mind..unless it is for Markovic which would be a bold statement of faith by Rodgers...we will see
ReplyDeleteWhy I Ayre didn't insist Pedro(26) and 55M cash as deal we will never know. How does they guy do deals, he is crap.
ReplyDeleteWe have not brought one world class player to club this summer:
B Rodgers needs to spend 75M on these attacking players:
1: CM: T Alacantra(23) Of B Munich for 25-32M
2: RW: L Moura(21) Of PSG for 20-25M
3: LW: B Arfa(27) Of Newcastle for 5-7M
4: CM: M Sissoko(24) Of Newcastle for 8-11M
you still holding on to that? Have i tainted my character my liking my own comment? Maybe i have to go to court to fight for my right to like my own comments. Its my comment and I can do whatever i want with it. Get it!
ReplyDeleteHe has joined a Barca side which has won everything in the world and will arguably never reach their heights again. Suarez will become slower as years pass by which will be OK for Laliga but not for UCL
ReplyDeleteAnd how the fcuk did Suarez taint his his character to deserve mentioning his wife?!?
ReplyDeleteSuarez never respected us and i will not respect him
ReplyDeleteIf we only had Shelvey...
ReplyDeleteYes, I heard him talking about your sister..
ReplyDeletei havent got one
ReplyDeleteWhat have i done to you. Your a giant pain in my @zz
ReplyDeleteEasy there... last time someone did that, Materazzi got a headbutt to the chest!
ReplyDeleteThe last time we sold our irreplaceable striker to a Spanish team, we won the Champions League...
ReplyDelete:)))
ReplyDeleteI don't think we'll do that this time though!!....but I like your positive thinking. Question is who will be the be the forward to replace him....reckon there will be one...Bony/Benzema/Martinez or maybe another will pop up.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that he would be a better fit at RM, but then I heard his wife's family is in Barca. Well that settled it. He would be a better fit at RM, but he took one for the team (family) and more power to him. He plays footbal most of the time but he's with his family for life...no brainer for me and Godspeed LS. Thanks for the excitement and the service.
ReplyDeletePlease stop going on about this up-voting stuff. You (and others) have made this point about a million times. If a poster wants to do that, who cares? What difference does it make to anything? Just ignore it.
ReplyDeleteSuarez is irreplaceable and he will be sorely missed hope FSG and BR counter this with a huge signing in saying that we need to just put our faith in BR and hope he spends the Suarez funds wisely
ReplyDeleteYes it would be giant.
ReplyDeleteWhat has Luis Suarez do to you to speak about his OFF-PITCH character and his wife?
I never talked about it. I just made a point that pukee is talking about self-respect and upvoting himself at the same time which seems hypopcritical.
ReplyDeleteBit of a bummer - Credit to Rodgers for playing to his strengths, the fans for the support, and credit to Luis for delivering the goods. Liverpool were the most entertaining team in world last year - hopefully they continue down that path.
ReplyDeleteAs irreplacable as he may be - I think Liverpool will continue to challange - and the closest thing to a replacment may already be playing. Never would have said this a year ago, but Sterling could be the closest thing to a replacement, and could be worth building the team around him - playing him furhter up the pitch, maybe in partnership with Sturridge. He's evolved big time from his 1st season, towards the end of last season - he was the best teenager in Europe. At the rate he's developing, he could be one of the best in the world - he's only 19. He's got pace, ball control, creativity, work ethic, his finishing has improved big time, is capable of different shots(see 1st goal vs Norwich), trickery (goal vs Man City), has become much more physical - able to muscle players off the ball. If his confidence grows, he takes more shots, becomes a little more audacious it could really do a lot for the club. He just needs to invoke the Spirit of Suarez - impose himself physically and psychologically on the game, never give up, and could achieve great things. IMO he's the future of the club.
Who cares if it's hypocritical? It has nothing to do with LFC, or football, so please stop going on about it. Thanks.
ReplyDeletewell i only did it once and Orme is grilling me about it every single day. I would like to headbutt this guy
ReplyDeletewhat if Suarez bit Shelvey's skull? His teeth would be imprinted forever
ReplyDeleteIf i was BR, I would encourage Sterling, Markovic and Coutinho to fight for the number 7.
ReplyDeleteI am defending Suarez because I think it was an innapropriate to mention him as a bad father or husband since Suarez offended us by his behaviour ON THE PITCH, not by mentioning our sisters. That is what I ment with pukees' sister..
ReplyDeleteAs soon as the third goal went in against Palace was the moment Suarez knew he would leave. My only gripe is we could have got more money.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward, we seem to have spent a lot of the money without actually addressing many of the issues (eg defence) which is a concern.
I NEVER MENTIONED IT. I replied on bob loblow's comment that was funny.
ReplyDeleteAgree on everthing, except not adressing defence issue. Firstly we are officialy in negotiations (or were) with Moreno and Lovren, and secondly, there is still much time left...
ReplyDeleteI've got the pitchforks. You grab the torches.
ReplyDeleteGod, he was fncking brilliant wasn't he??
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nutmegs, the never-say-die attitude, the goals at OT, the free-kick at Goodison, sending John Ruddy to the Priory, and the pure joy you gave to millions of Reds. Whatever anyone tries to say we will miss you.
YNWA
What price Barca in the Champions League??? Odds-on I reckon.
You are so wrong.
ReplyDeleteHe is already doing well with the number 9! Why change!
ReplyDeleteOrme stop fighting with me otherwise Jaimie will keep deleting our posts
ReplyDeleteHe has been so good and I think he needs to be promoted to number 7. Manager's confidence will enhance his corner taking skills even further
ReplyDeleteWill you still be writing on this site now Luis has gone, mate?? I suppose we still have Coates.....
ReplyDeleteYes, perhaps he can learn to actually get his corner to a teammate.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of replacements the other day. Benzema didn't really impress me at the World Cup (unless it was on a plate) and Higuain looks equally lazy / disinterested. No chance with James or Falcao, don't particularly want Mario so the only one who I thought looked an LFC player was Griezmann.
ReplyDeleteThis may be a bit left-field, but could Coutinho maybe do the job of Suarez? Great on the ball (like Suarez), good eye for a pass (Suarez), genius (Suarez), awful finisher (Suarez's first season......)
Just a thought.
Agree it makes the best sense from an economic standpoint, but in a purely footballing sense he's the kind of player whose creative guile is virtually irreplaceable. All that goal threat and flair will now have to come from elsewhere in the team. I'll be watching with great interest to see how he fits into the side at Barca, coming from a team where he has been the main star and spearhead of the attack for several seasons, to one where that role is very much taken.
ReplyDeleteNo biting though
ReplyDeleteYou haven't mentioned if YOU are going to miss him Jay...... :)
ReplyDeleteGod.
ReplyDeleteI told my kids we had bought a LLAMA.....
Anyone want Dortmund tickets, I don't reckon they'll want to come now?
They'll just have to get up earlier.
ReplyDeleteIf I were you, I'd get my CV updated and send it to the club so they can finally rid themselves of Ayre. You're clearly the better candidate considering the simplicity with which you can value and buy players. Not to mention your scouting skills. Not many people would have noticed Lucas Moura also played one decent match last season.
ReplyDeleteLeeds is not a Spanish team and we didn't win the CL with Heskey..
ReplyDeleteI'm still praying we sign Muslera. That young CB they had wasn't bad either by the way
ReplyDeleteCan we get a sexy lady to be a double agent and follow Athletico Madrids' scouts around as a temptress??
ReplyDeleteThey seem to buy CF's for 2million and sell them for 35+million, they obviously know where the 'G SPOT' is, our guys are still doing F##king Kegels!!!!
thanks..... for most of it.........bye.
ReplyDeleteSo the fee for Suarez is believed to be £63 million. Not bad considering we paid £23 million for him in 2011. If he did not bite somebody again and was not banned for 4 months then maybe we would have got much more.
ReplyDeleteHe had to go but will br replace him with bony? Watch us go 7th again, this will be a nightmare season, just hope br signs someone quality, if we get bony its a disgrace. Im really seeing a terrible season ahead.
ReplyDeleteMarkovic is a very exciting signing.
ReplyDeleteI am gutted he has left us because I am worried if we could replace him and don't think we will be able to bring in a big name, I love Brendan and I believe this is the most important transfer window because we need to establish ourselves in champs league every year!
ReplyDeleteYeah probably. Still will be the team I support. I hope you guys keep it up.
ReplyDeleteHow many of you guys will tune into Barca games now though? That will definitely (hopefully) be a spectacle to behold - even if it is pounding the Getafes and Almerias.
To find another Suarez is not going to happen. We just need to find players who will make up his goals.
ReplyDeleteOn the fence with that one. Hope he works out. Definitely an exciting prospect, but as far as being an exciting signing...will have to wait to see if he gels with the rest of the team.
ReplyDeleteOmg u took me seriously?
ReplyDeleteOmg u took ME seriously?!?
ReplyDeleteYou can add Cavani to the underwhelming list.
ReplyDeleteOnly sky saying that. Everywhere else 75. Think we will have to wait a couple of days to find out for sure.
ReplyDeleteGuillem Balague mentioned the £63m. He is pretty close with Barcelona so it is possible that he is correct.
ReplyDeleteI was making a joke
ReplyDeletei believe its the right time for both parties to part ways thanks for the memories LS7
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Kegan out The King in
ReplyDeleteTony Barrett (very reliable) intimated that it was our intention to sell Suarez this summer even before the bite.
ReplyDeleteThat last bit should be a question and you should know there is nothing worse than liking your own posts. Except hypocrisy.
ReplyDeleteDo you understand!
There is no more direct way of showing self-respect than by respecting yourself by upvoting your own comment.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great point.
He played well. He was mental. We were lucky to watch him.
ReplyDeleteHe has left.
Onwards, fellow Kopites!
The day after the bite my sentiment was "screw Suarez, he has no respect for the club, lets sell him now and sell him quick"
ReplyDeleteToday...I might have shed a tear or two. You don't know how much you love them till they've gone
Luis Alberto Suárez Díaz, the football player.
ReplyDeleteIf he gets any better he'll have to fight Brad Jones for the number 1.
ReplyDeleteME is a serious condition.
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be annoying for his wife to sort out.
ReplyDeleteLost all respect for him now. Just now.
Why would Thiago move to us? He starts for Munich when he is fit.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Barca were never going to sell Sanchez and Pedro. One or the other, I'm afraid. I think we should have pushed for Pedro early on though to steal a march on Arsenal's pursuit of Sanchez. With Spain coming home early our chances would have been helped. Easy in hindsight though.
Got your facts wrong, mate. Baros didn't leave until after we won the Champions League.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be indications that Falcao might be available. I think if we really wanted him, we could get him. I don't think the hierachy would sanction a sufficiently large offer to buy a player of his age.
ReplyDeleteDon't see why Real would sell Benzema, Especially with Morata looking like he is headed to Juve. There are better goalscorers than Benzema, but he is a very good fit for Real's system.
ReplyDeleteThey've just signed Mandzukic for about £18m and I think he'll be an excellent replacement for Costa. Really puts into context the proposed Bony transfer into context.
ReplyDeleteI Ayre is waste, how comes he didn't make sure we brought in pedro(26) in the deal and 50M cash, instead of 75M Cash?
ReplyDeleteWhen sturridge(24) and Coutinho(21) was struggling to get games at Chelsea and Inter, did it bother us getting them? L Moura(21) is a young class quality player, if he is given regular chance and played under manager who has confidence i am sure he will flourish. And he would work well under B Rodgers
The values are rough estimates, but they are roughly what they would cost.
B Arfa(27) we could definately get for 5-7M
M Sissoko(24) newcastle got for 1.8M 2 years ago, they would sell for 8-12M considering they sold their best player in January for 19M(Cabaye)
T Alacantra(23) B Munich got for 18-19M, he is not a guaranteed starter week in week out at B Munich if B Rodgers offered 25-33M for him i think we could bring him to club.
As i love our team but the likes of Can(21), Allen(24), Henderson(24) and our ageing on his last legs S Gerrard(34) will do well in premiership but in Champions league: The likes of Koke, Rakitic, Modric, Extrebarria, Gabi, Verrati and Schweingsteiger will have too much class, creativity and quality in their engine room
Most sources (the Echo, the Beeb, the Times) have suggested that Barca paid his release clause. The £63m reports seem to be face saving figures put forward by the Catalan media. Probably weary over the pressure Neymar faced due to his ever-increasing fee.
ReplyDeleteThere was no 4 point plan. The new contract was all about having a motivated and committed Suarez to get us to the CL last season, and to get the buy out clause in place to ensure the fee.
ReplyDeleteMAYBE if we had won the PL it might have made a difference, but probably not.
Jamie (and I ) were wrong last year, saying he would leave. He was right this year, although actually how he affected his transfer was not how JK predicted .
It's all done now, I'm now just an interested bystander watching how he copes with not having the team built around him, or being the main man. I expect he'll do quite well anyway.
LFC will go on without him, fingers and toes crossed for BR to spend well. No need for all this vitriol, he's irrelevant now, as long as he doesn't score against us.
Bye Louis, thanks for the goals, but we won't miss all the drama.
Next.....
Beñat will be happy to be in that company.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it is. I don't envy the poor bastards with Malfunctioning Earlobitis. My apologies to the offended.
ReplyDeleteEveryone: spare a thought for our gracious host, Jaimie Kanwar, who is sobbing into his signed Luis Suarez shirt, as you read this message.
ReplyDeleteYou okay slugger?
It's gonna be tough, but I'll try to get over it...
ReplyDeleteThe third goal made no difference, city never looked remotely like dropping points at the end, the Bitters were our last hope, but they didn't need the points.
ReplyDeleteWe definitely need to look to the defence with most of our coming transfers, you got that right for sure
There was a 4-point plan. It may not have been a literal plan (in the sense that Suarez sat down and wrote up an exit-strategy) but there what took place matched the 4-point plan I posted.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I was not wrong about Suarez leaving last year. My argument has always been that Suarez wanted to leave, and last summer, he tried his damnedest to make it happen.
Like this year, I highlighted all the tell-tale signs of Suarez's obvious intention to leave, yet no one would have it.
Just because LFC blocked his departure doesn't change the fact that he wanted to leave.
Couldn't stop laughing at that one, excellent!
ReplyDeleteAgree with you re Benzema - i really hope LFC don't sign him.
ReplyDeleteHe is not a guaranteed starter with J Martinez, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Gotze who are competing for that centre midfield position. Pedro(26) is now going to warm the bench with Deulofeu(20) when Neymar(22), Messi(27) and Suarez(27) are all fit which will be 75-90% of season.
ReplyDeleteI would have prefered Pedro(26) to Sanchez(25), Pedro is more of a goal threat, he is faster and quicker and a better finisher than Sanchez(25). Sanchez(25) creates more but with us losing 31 goals, Pedro(26) would have guaranteed the club 15-25 goals a season minimum
Chin up.
ReplyDeleteWe'll sign a brand new amoral monster soon enough.
I appreciate to you stopping long enough to type this message.
ReplyDeleteI think he is a good player. Not really what we need though. Too laconic. Fits Real well. It'd be a bad deal for all parties.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is accurate to say no one would have it that Suarez intended to leave. A number of people thought he would leave if RM or Barcelona came in for him but still hoped that he'd stay,
ReplyDeleteI suspect we agreed with Suarez that he would be allowed to go rather than we decided to sell him. Same result though.
ReplyDeleteI was going to give you an up vote.but as you did not rate your own comment neither did I. But if you had up voted your own comment I would not have done as a matter of principle
Sanchez's high intensity style and physicality would suit us and the Premiership more than Pedro though. I can understand why the club prioritised Sanchez.
ReplyDeleteNo-one is a guaranteed starter at Bayern, but a fully fit Thiago would likely start for them. Lahm and Schweinsteiger tend to play deeper than Thiago whereas Gotze often played up front last season. He'd still have competition from Muller, but it looks likely that Kroos will leave, making it even more likely he will play. One of Pep's favoured sons.
Thiago is a very different type of midfielder to Gerrard. He'd be competing with Lallana, Coutinho and Sterling for the no.10 position if we bought him. If we're going to buy another attacking mid, it should be someone with an eye for goal. Thiago only scores a couple a season.
Have you seen Benat Extrebarria(27) play regularly? He is a class quality midfielder who dictates the play from centre of park. And offers class, creativity and some goals from centre midfield. More than J Henderson(24) and J Allen(24) do the dirty work without ball, but attacking wise offer club very little.
ReplyDeleteWell I've upvoted yours.
ReplyDeleteMind games.
They are all very good too. especially the last one
ReplyDeleteAs long as the new guy's initials are not MB, I'd probably be ok with it.
ReplyDelete
