Liverpool, Manchester United, and Paris St. Germain have each reportedly made an official offer for Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez, but it looks like the Catalan club is not interested in selling. Yet.
Last week, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu made the club's position on Sanchez very clear, when he told reporters:
"He [Sanchez] is not for sale. He has a contract with us and is an important part of the squad"
Reports earlier this week claimed that Liverpool planned to make a £20m bid for the Chilean star, and according to Spanish newspaper Sport today:
* Barcelona have rejected LFC's offer.
* All three offers received were 'serious' and 'economically important'
* Barca expect LFC to come back with an increased offer.
Liverpool were linked with Sanchex - nicknamed 'El Niño Maravilla' (The Wonder Boy) - last summer, too, and at the time, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed:
"Brendan Rodgers has ordered his scouts to collect information about Alexis Sánchez, who is Liverpool's transfer priority"
Barcelona launched their new home kit last Wednesday, and Sanchez was missing from the launch (along with six other established stars), which suggests he could on his way out of the Nou Camp this summer.
From what I've seen, lots of fans want LFC to sign Sanchez. Indeed, in a site poll last week, I asked whether Liverpool should try to sign any of the following 7 Barca players (all allegedly for sale):
- Cristian Tello
- Alexis Sanchez
- Alex Song
- Pedro
- Dani Alves
- Cesc Fabregas
- Javier Mascherano
The majority of 20,000 (approx) voters picked Sanchez, which is a massive vote of confidence. As such, it's heartening to see LFC chasing this quality of player.
After facing Sanchez during Germany's recent 1-0 victory over Chile, Arsenal's Per Mertesacker raved:
"You cannot catch him [Sanchez]. It's unbelievable how quick and how good with his feet he is. If you get one against one with him, it's nearly impossible"
I like the sound of that :-)
Should LFC go back with an improved offer? Bartomeu may claim that Sanchez is not for sale, but as we all know, money talks, and for the right offer, it seems likely that Barcelona will consider selling.

He'd be good, but a whole host of clubs would be in for him.
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard anything from reputable news sources to suggest that there's any truth in this. I fail to see the point in discussing this when it is just pure speculation. I'd rather us talk about confirmed targets (Lallana, Shaqiri, Can, Moreno etc.). Half the people you say we're interested in we never come close to signing anyway!
Like i said if we can get a deal with suarez in it i would take it
ReplyDeletesanchez and 40m for suarez
I fail to see the point in discussing this when it is just pure speculation
ReplyDeleteAre you for real? 99.9% of transfer targets are speculation, and fans love to discuss potential signings.
Also, please get your facts straight: It is not *me* stating that Liverpool are interested in X, Y and Z. I merely pass on the rumour, and every single rumour posted on this site is attributed to its source.
You make it sound like I'm just coming up with names off the top of my head. That is false, so please don't peddle inaccurate myths like that.
sanchez is unreal and would fit in perfectly. We should do whatever it takes imho....
ReplyDeleteIf we could have one out of that list of barca players, Sanchez would be the one for me,,,was great at udinese as well and would suit the prem. Fabregas/Pedro would be good too. If we get one of these players i'd be happy, it would be a statement signing we need.
ReplyDeleteBarca would bite our hand off for that, you'd want another barca player in that deal...get Sanchez and keep Suarez would be ideal then i'd be happy for Borini to leave.
ReplyDeletespot on. Alexis Sanchez is world class. and with Sanchez, Suarez and Sturridge we will be unstoppable.
ReplyDeleteAlexis Sanchez (25) - £30M. RW/LW/ST world class signing

ReplyDeleteWhat I mean to say is that, there have been no reputable news sources suggesting that the rumours you spread on a near day to day basis have any truth in them.
ReplyDeleteTake the Toni Kroos deal to Manchester United for example. So many news sources reported that a deal was done throughout the day. Later on in the evening, reputable news sources (SkySports, Telegraph, Times, Guardian) dismissed them completely. Had it been LFC in MUFC's position, I'm sure you would've spread those rumours.
MUFC fans wasted their time getting excited over nothing and I don't want fellow LFC fans to experience the same. Simple as.
Of course you don't pluck the players from the top of your head, but your sources aren't exactly reliable. Take your article on LFC's interest in Fabregas yesterday. Where was it sourced from? A tabloid newspaper with zero credibility; the DM. No one else has reported such interest since. Enough said!
Blimey!
ReplyDeleteWow what a load of nonsense!!!
ReplyDeleteYour defensive approach is anything but defensive. Your attacking approach would get us absolutely killed. You suggest signing Diame when if you've ever seen him play in a lot of games he is completely useless. No CB stick with what we've got? I'm incredibly happy you have no influence on LFC!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, my socceroos are going to get deeeestroyyyeeed by him then.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteDude, JK is not in-the-know. He's just a Liverpool fan with journalist-level writing skills that runs a Liverpool fan blog. He's not a reporter with sources and contacts. He writes about what he hears from the media.
ReplyDeleteFail to see why my comment warranted deletion! Purely voicing an opinion that your sources lack credibility.
ReplyDeleteSlightly off topic but has anyone else seen much of Moreno? I've watched quite a bit of a Sevilla and I must say I'm very very concerned we are looking at him for just under 20 mil. He can't defend and he's really really weak. He's got potential but definitely not a risk we need at the mo IMO. To me Shaw would be 100 times better and I can't see why we aren't making more of an effort to sign him if he's available for 30 mil.
ReplyDeleteI'd say he's definitely worth splashing the cash for - he's probably worth closer to the 35M - but still would be worth it. He's at the same level or better as Mata, Ozil - definitely better than Negredo, Navas, Soldado. Definitely worth improving the offer.
ReplyDeleteCheck out these skills from a friendly the other day against egypt:

Okay. I'll try again for the third time. I ask you not to delete this post and to leave it open to debate.
ReplyDeleteYou have made countless articles on potential transfers. Even though you attribute the rumours you write about to a source, I believe that, most of the time, the sources are not credible.
This is where I ask you again, to leave this open to debate.
Yesterday, you created an article on the potential transfer of Fabregas. It was based wholly on a tabloid article from the Daily Mail. Let's not forget that they were one of the papers that claimed so emphatically that the Toni Kroos deal to MUFC was completed.
Does everyone here consider the DM as a credible source compared to broadsheet news sources?
Since that article, no reputable source has supported the Fabregas speculation, leading me to say that writing the article on Fabregas was completely futile. This has happened on countless occasions. It wastes your readers' time as well as yours in my opinion. That's why I say that you/we should focus our attention to the aforementioned transfers that are likely to happen.
Now, I'm not trying to discredit your website. I have agreed with a lot of what you have written over the years and disagreed at other times. I'm just an LFC fan that wants the best for the club as well as its fan base.
Thanks
4th time. I ask you (again) not to delete this post and to leave it open to debate.

I don't know. But I'd certainly like to get the chance to see what fellow fans think.
Thanks
Incapable of defending the integrity of the website? Certainly looks like it pal.
ReplyDeleteCan't we offer £20m plus Reina?
ReplyDeleteDont worry Nick Chiles the least of our problems.
ReplyDeleteI would see this list as a horrible spending spree. Liverpool's approach is likely to be far more defensive minded than the one you provided. I think a reputable center defender is critical to a successful season and to spend 96 million for players, at least 5 of the which are not experienced in any CL football, is downright stupid.
ReplyDeleteWhat is crucial for this coming seasons squad is stability. We need a mix of young flairs with experienced players who essentially, all know how to play at top level.
Rickie Lambert is potentially a decent signing as he will strive hard to please and acts as a steady attacking alternative. For his price, you will almost certainly get some bang for your buck this season.
Xherdan Shaqiri would be a smart, appropriate midfield signing. For his price range, you will see a small explosive lad who has already shared moments of brilliance and could work tremendously well with the likes of Countinho and Sterling.
Dejan Lovren is a great steady option to have at center back. We can assume LFC are keeping Skrtel and Sakho. Unsuccessful partnerships of the back 2 defense will be unforgiving in some of the upcoming big matches. Lovren has come from a great season and can play a very big part if he gets in and further proves his worth.
Emre Can is a wise backup for Steven Gerrard. Lucas Leiva will be competing, but his role has become more of a pitch frustration or time waster recently and LFC may even prioritize the youngster over the likes of him.
Alberto Moreno is a player who could act as a huge statement for the club. Like Shaqiri, he is young, needs to play at the highest level and will surely be a first choice on left back in place of the long recovering Jose Enrique.
Adam Lallana is obviously going to be a good signing if the deal does goes through. However, for the ongoing asking price, unless there was somehow a cut price deal for Lovren, which there likely wont, LFC should settle with Shaqiri and focus on either an experienced additional defender or winger/striker.
Alexis Sanchez is very optimistic/speculative at this point. LFC would enjoy the probable signing of the season, but they know they would have to pay for it. Sanchez forming with S&S would crush opponents, leaving a majority of English and European teams in the dust.
Mohamed Diame is not a player required at this point in time. If Diame performs extremely well the first half of the season, maybe he would get some much desired interest.
Michel Vorm is not a needed purchase. Pepe Reina has returned from Napoli and if LFC can make amends with the overall brilliant goalkeeper then he will serve as perfect first choice competition for Simon Mignolet. There are a lot of matches to play, Reina and Mignolet transitioning for a season could be a very profitable concept.
Pedro Rodriguez Ladesma. If Sanchez remains unavailable, then this is your man. Can dominate possession with the ball, both footed, has numerous years of top top level football and yet, remains at a relatively young age. Seems likely to leave this summer, should really be Sanchez or Pedro if funds are suitable.
Of course we must take into account the numerous potential departures: Iago Aspas, Assaidi, Luis Alberto, Jose Enrique etc...
LFC should be using the sold player funds to sign additionally one or two aged/experienced players to add maturity to the squad with the foreseeable pressure they will face with bigger, potential silverware winning matches.
Thats my take on it from this point in time.
Sanchez, Rakitic, Carvalho, Lovren and Moreno= damned good team! period. Forget fabregas and Lallana. We have Ibe & Texeira to add to the midlfield once sign rakitic and Carvalho and we nuke Alberto and Lucas. Nuke Assgas Reina Assaidi and Coates..
ReplyDeleteMore like, we're the least of Chile's problems. Those Chilean miners who made a motivational video for the players didn't even bother to mention us with Spain and Netherlands!
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth are we "hot" for 34 yr old Seydou Kaitu? What the FU@k!
ReplyDeleteJK, who do you think is a better choice for defensive mid; .Can or Carvalho?
ReplyDeleteDon't worry mate we have Tim Cahill ex Evertonian
ReplyDeleteYes I'd like to see that. Let's use Reina as a bargaining tool to get Sanchez
ReplyDeleteIf Suarez did ever leave us this summer then Sanchez is the type of player you want to replace him with.
ReplyDeletethese are my first choice signings too.hope we get all 5 and then goodluck to the other teams trying to stop us.i reckon with those players we will beat anyone anytime, all we need now is for them to happen.you got a direct line straight to rodgers office?if so use it!
ReplyDeleteWell i think out of the three Chiles our main hope of a point and i dont see that happening either.
ReplyDeleteEvery transfer window for years Barcelona players and certain others keep popping up as rumoured targets i am yet to see any of them turn up.
ReplyDeleteSanchez is not the man to replace Suarez. In fact to claim anybody is the 'man' to replace Suarez is nonsense. Suarez is Suarez. Sanchez is Sanchez and he is a very good player but to say he is a replacement for Suarez is wildly inaccurate IMO. If Suarez does go I would like to see Sanchez and Pedro come in.
ReplyDeleteCarvalho is a definite no go... Sporting rate him ridiculously high and it would take at least 25 mil to get him so that's not gonna happen. I think Can is the main option there at the mo. With regards to Moreno or Clyne I don't really want either but if forced to pick I'd probably chose Clyne since I think he would represent better value for money. Moreno is really overrated in my eyes and this is why Sevilla are biting our arm off for the best part of 20 mil... They can't believe their luck!!!
ReplyDeleteI would take out lallana and put fabregas in would be awesome. It won't be the called the barca style no more it will be the Liverpool style.
ReplyDeleteI'm a massive fan but I can't see him leaving barca but if he did it would be for 30 mill plus maybe even 40 mill plus . One things for sure , he won't be coming to us but like you say its good that we're linked with this sort of standard player
ReplyDelete"Sanchez IS THE TYPE of player you want to replace him with"
ReplyDeleteDid you miss that part?
I worry too and just hope the scouts and BR have got this one right. It seems a lot of money to me for a player unproven in the EPL
ReplyDeleteBut Cesc' partner would be a huge stumbling block, makes Posh seem modest and low-key.
ReplyDeleteShakespeare,Tarantino,Kubrick and Iain Banks combined wouldn't have the ability to create a post like that. We'll spend the week digesting and dissecting it.
ReplyDeleteMoreno is 21 years old...does anyone believe he is at his potential? I can tell you one thing he has alot of pace and our FBs have been lacking that. If its one tthing I trust Rodgers with its youth development. He has to ve something to be hovering around the Spanish national team. Not even Enrique got that on his good seasons.
ReplyDeleteI really hope we take care of business quick and not get involved in any bidding wars. And S' ton can keep Lallana if they want to keep raising the price. Sanchez and Shaqiri will do quite nicely
I would sign pedro, fabregas, Mascherano and Sanchez out of 7 players on Barca. Pedro and Sanchez because they can be our wide men, fabregas can be our midfield with gerrard and Mascherano can play a defensive midfielder.
ReplyDelete
