In a site poll earlier this month, 91% of 15,000 participants voted YES to Liverpool signing Southampton star Adam Lallana. Clearly, the Saints midfielder is a popular transfer target, but it seems that his popularity pales in comparison to Barcelona star Pedro.
In another recent poll, I asked fans who they'd rather see LFC sign this summer: Pedro or Lallana.
* 17100 visitors (approx) participated in the poll.
* A gigantic 80% of voters chose Pedro over Lallana.
That's a quite staggering vote of confidence in Pedro, but it's hardly surprising given the Spaniard's experience and pedigree. I also voted in favour of Pedro, for the following reasons:
* Pedro - described by Vicent Del Bosque as 'incredible' - has consistent experience at the highest levels of the game, including copious European/international experience.
* He's played alongside some of the world's best players for years, including Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta.
* The Spaniard is a winner; he's won practically every trophy in the game, and that kind of experience could be invaluable for Liverpool. The Reds lacked experience in the final stages of last season, and that arguably contributed to losing the title.
* Pedro is reportedly valued at £20m, and with Southampton allegedly demanding £30m for Lallana, it's obvious that the Spain international is better value for money.
* Pedro is the kind of player who'll come in and give the entire club a lift. He's a marquee signing with an aura about him. Lallana doesn't have the same kind of gravitas.
* The quality of LFC's signings may have some bearing on whether Luis Suarez stays at Anfield, and signing Pedro will surely impress the Uruguayan. That's not a slight on Lallana, but again, he doesn't have the same aura/worldwide reputation.
The other alternative is to sign both players :-)

I really really hope that nothing about this Pedro-rumours are true...his a little fu*ker that doesn't deserve to be on a football pitch... it would be absolutely embarassing as a liverpool fan to support a team with this crybabe in it...
ReplyDeleteOver priced English players .
ReplyDeleteWhy spend that money on Lallana ends up being a Joe allen.
are you mistaking him with busquets ?
ReplyDeleteSo your not crying?
ReplyDeleteRodgers is already targeting cheapo players from lower ranking teams it seams. If no quality marquee signings. Suarez may pack it. Lalana is overrated. He's worth half of 30.
ReplyDeletePedro an Busquets are exactly the same disgrace of players...
ReplyDeleteI hav'nt seen enough of Lallana to be 100% on him, is he going to be the next Carroll/Downing,
ReplyDeleteI have seen enough of Pedro to say, its a no brainer.
no i don't think so...
ReplyDeleteif you say so, no point starting talking with you i have the sensation that you're the stubborn type.
ReplyDeletewhat's Rogders target list ? because i've only heard RUMORS and no officiel name yet.
ReplyDeleteSame age, different level, different experience, different pedigree, and may be cheaper... no brainer is an understatement
ReplyDeletePedro over Lallana all day every day, no questions about it. For £30M or even £20 is way too much for Lallana.
ReplyDeletePlease act fast Ayre! World class players aren't available all the time. Sign either Pedro/Sanchez and Shaqiri. They will add another dimension to our attack and their presence will be vital in big games like Chelsea, Madrid, Bayern and etc. World class players perform in big stages.
ReplyDeleteDo you mean because of play acting? Does Pedro do that as well?
ReplyDeleteThat pretty much sums it up. Pedro is on a completely different level.
ReplyDeletePedra does spend a fair bit of time on the floor. But if he is surplus to requirements or in other words can't make it into a Barcelona team that's shall we say past it's sell by date, then do Liverpool really want him? The other side of the coin is, would he favour moving from 13 hours a day of Sunshine on the Ramblas to the Mersey? I would doubt his full commitment. Lallana on the other hand would fit in an adapt very well, but as others have suggested the fee touted is extremely high. Someone's comment about Brendan touting cheapo players has 2 points, a) he hasn't had the money to not look form 'cheapo' players and secondly there are a few thousand top divisor clubs a round the worls beyond the top 2 in each country, that doesn't make the players cheapo. I put any money on nobody would have been interested in Costa, Lopez, Gabi, Miranda, this time last year, so maybe Brendan can see beyond the marquee signing nonsense,
ReplyDeletenot the same position players. i dont get this ...
ReplyDeleteI would be happy with Lallana, Parejo, Remy or winger i don't mind Belasie or Saqeiri to come. In back line Lovern and a full back would be great.
more we should sell joe allen and get lallana which is a really differnt and GOOD player......
ReplyDeleteNo club ever releases an 'official' list of targets, so expecting to see one is unrealistic.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have Sanchez over Pedro or Lallana. Only because Pedro is only thinking about leaving Barca but in Sanchez case as it was reported that we were rejected of a bid of £23 mill. Sanchez to me is more of a realistic target
ReplyDeleteSign Pedro/Sanchez and Shaqiri to break double deck bus defense! C'mon!
ReplyDeleteYou really can't compare the two, Lallana is a very good player.........................while Pedro has done it all and earned every medal he has won, not just sat on the bench and picked them up cheaply..............top player!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat about Luis Suarez??
ReplyDeleteGuys don't be misled. When a player has won every cup available, their passion and hunger is gone. Its important for LFC to only get players that are ambitious. Get good players that want prove themselves at the highest level on a consistent level and love for the club, not names. Make names- a recipe for long term success.
ReplyDeleteas far as i know he hasn't won the PL, the FA-Cup and the carling cup + he'd surely like to win the CL again!
ReplyDeleteI prefer your alternative, sign both!!!
ReplyDeleteOn what do you base this argument?
ReplyDeleteYes, both...and Rakitic too.
ReplyDeleteI have been living in Spain for 20 years and my team is Barcelona here. Pedro is overrated and generally runs up blind alleys, falls over and gets up grinning like a chesire cat. Please do not be a fool to sign this lightweight.
ReplyDeletebrazil's Bernard is the one I want
ReplyDeleteWe cured Suarez from his diving disease(not quite, but enough), so we need another patient? I prefer Lallana cause even though I am not English I hope we sign at least another domestic player. Plus I really think he will set Brazil on fire- not a chance of Downing scenario. Maybe we can offer Joe Allen to decrease the price..
ReplyDeleteLallana shaqiri can lovren and rojo are Brendan's primary targets for summer
ReplyDeleteDoesn't every Barca player..
ReplyDeleteThat's not true. It's on my fridge door.
ReplyDeleteI'll go grab it and report back.
Lallana, Felipe luiz and jAVI Mertinez.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of when we had the chance to buy Mata for 19million and instead we bought Downing.
ReplyDeleteNo Brainers all around
I can't get this fear out of my head, the same I had the last transfer window: tons of big names, targets and negotiations but we will sign none of them, and we'll end up with some cheap decent squad players.
ReplyDeleteWith every passing day this damn fear grows
4 hours? How far away is your fridge?
ReplyDeleteoh good. i thought only i felt that way.
ReplyDeleteI thought the transfer window opens on 1July? If so, you're a little premature!
ReplyDeleteBuy both, we need depth in our ranks
ReplyDeleteI know it's really premature, that's why it's so annoying! I just want to see Ayre and BR shaking someone's hand as soon as possible. We're not economically powerful so our advantage in the market should be the speed of negotiations.
ReplyDeleteI think Lallana is a big improvement on Carroll or Downing. Neither contributed much to LFC. Lallana's ability on the ball provides openings for players, and he also chases back to cover the back four when the ball is lost going forward.
ReplyDeleteyes i agree.
ReplyDeleteAlex Sanchez and / Pedro but if a choice is needed the extra edge toward Sanchez......and BR PLEASE SIGN RAKITIC ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBuying britishs players will tell you how genius the manager is for paying those kinda money for mostly non world class
ReplyDeleteBut thats the point isn't it? Despite what we read and hear we don't know what names are actually on the list or in what kind of preferential order if they were on some list. Condemning Rodgers for something we only know through third/fourth/fifth parties is a bit harsh. Kev was clearly being facetious.
ReplyDeleteHellllllooooo... Fabregas is available... yet all I hear is Pedro and Lallana.. what is the world coming to..?
ReplyDeleteThat boy hasn't a clue about footballers if he thinks Pedro is crap he wud b good for Liverpool aswel as lanana both of them along with reus lovern turan Richards Bernard and javi martinez
ReplyDeleteI'd still prefer Firmino or Cuadrado over any of the forwards mentioned so far but of all three, i think Sanchez would be the best fit for LFC because he's more of a fighter than Pedro & therefore less inclined to dive about like a muppet & more explosive than Lallana, not to mention cheaper! Shaqiri is a good player but again he wouldn't be my choice for LM/W, i'd take Iturbe or Konoplyanka before him. Emre Can looks a good player but Rakitic would be a top priority for me to finally replace Gerrard & i'd sign Will Hughes, & Dele Alli to learn from the both of them. Signing Javi Martinez at CB would be incredible, Moreno/Rojo/Rodriguez at LB & another GK to compete with Mig, Kaylor Navas would do me. There's several young stars who'd i'd bring in to reinforce the accademy, U21s & reserves as well but i just wanna see Brendan shaking someones hand & a Liverpool announcement asap!
