'Spiderman' to LFC? - BR wants £12m midfield star as part of £32m double-transfer

With Mauricio Pocchetino reportedly on the verge of becoming Tottenham Hotspur's next manager, Southampton's squad is seemingly at the mercy of the Premier League's biggest clubs, including Liverpool, who are linked with yet another one of Saints' star players.

According to reports over the weekend:

* Liverpool are interested in signing Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

* Brendan Rodgers is considering a double-swoop for Schneiderlin and Dejan Lovren.

* Schneiderlin is allegedly available for £12m.

Southampton seems to be the go-to club for LFC transfers this summer, and with Pocchetino almost certainly on his way out, the reality is that Saints will have a real battle on their hands to keep the Argentine's team together.

Liverpool's interest in £20m-rated Lovren is well-established, and it (arguably) makes sense to pair Lovren and Schneiderlin, who work so well together at Southampton. Successful teams are built on effective partnerships, and the understanding between central defenders and defensive midfielders is absolutely vital.

With Steven Gerrard ahead of him, Schneiderlin will not be first-choice for LFC, but he'd probably be ahead of Lucas and Joe Allen in the midfield pecking order. Add that to Champions League football, and I doubt the French midfielder will turn down a move to Anfield.

Indeed, when asked last week about the possibility of moving this summer, 24-year old Schneiderlin made it clear that he wants to play in Europe. He told reporters:

"For my progress, it'll be better to play for a club in the Champions League. There is speculation, but it does not depend on me. We'll see in the coming weeks."

The Frenchman - nicknamed 'Spiderman' by his Southampton team-mates - also insisted that he will not rock the boat by agitating for a move:

"Top teams are watching, but as long as we don’t receive a concrete offer, and as long as the club says they won’t sell, I will never force a transfer.”

Schneiderlin Stats: 2013-13

* Passing Accuracy: 89% | Lucas: 90%
* Duels Won: 56% | Lucas: 56%
* Aerial Duels Won: 63% | Lucas: 63%
* Recoveries: 1 every 12 mins | Lucas: 1 every 13 mins
* Interceptions: 1 every 40 mins | Lucas: 1 every 37 mins
* Tackles Won: 77% | Lucas: 73%
* Chances Created: 30 | Lucas: 13
* Total Shots: 24 | Lucas: 4
* Goals/Assists: 3 | Lucas: 0

STATS: Opta

Worth a bid? If nothing else, Schneiderlin's nickname is better than most ;-)

  1. Why not buy Southampton? Cherry pick half their team for LFC, then sell again?

  2. Just come on and you take the very words out of......

  3. why concentrate on midfielders when we have a leaky defence? Again, must LFC buy all of Southampton players? We can as well pay for Jay Rodriguez who is another great talent

    ReplyDelete
  4. We will have to sell our whole current squad to come up with the cash for the Southampton players the media are linking us with.

  5. Yup, back 5 needed.

  6. Let's sign every player in the world

    ReplyDelete
  7. *every player from southampton

    ReplyDelete
  8. We will not have to sign any players again!

  9. Schneiderlin is a defensive midfielder, and defends, Lovren is a defender, i would say that is bolstering our defense~(if we actually buy them) and we were linked with them well before they went to Southampton, surely "why not buy Southampton" is a joke comment, but not a bad idea lol..I reiterate we haven't bought them yet, we have been linked with over 50 players so far this window, i think we will have to wait and see.

  10. silly comment, no we won't! we have just earned £99 million for qualifying for the Champs League

  11. you really think we need a new back five do you?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Morgan Schneiderlin, Adam Lallana,Dejan Lovren and Jay Rodriguez,Luke Shaw are the core of Southampton Team...I will be very happy if we get the first four as luke is linked with Yawnited...Their Playing style and pressin game is the same as our team so I will have them any day in our team

  13. We could call the new team Southerpool or Liverhampton.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm ok with all those except Rodriguez. He has a torn ACL.

    ReplyDelete
  15. An even more silly comment. £99m for qualifying for the CL :-) I guess that is the first phase of Anfield's expansion taken care of! £99m we wish!

  16. Tottenham appoint Mauricio Pochettino as head coach.
    Let's see how long he lasts.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't think you are allowed to do that.

    ReplyDelete
  18. that is the figure quoted,admittedly by the newspapers etc, but if you would like to tell me how much we earned this season i would be very willing to listen? the silly comment was "we will have to sell the whole current squad" so that's not a silly comment?

    ReplyDelete
  19. out of...your mouth or your a** ;) all jokes aside, its a shame that soton might be broken up. They really seemed to have something going last season and was looking for another strong one next year.

  20. Have you ever heard of sarcasm?

    "if you would like to tell me how much we earned this season" Now that sounds a bit better.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i wa poking the tiger! and i heard sarcasm all my life me old m8!

  22. The 99mil is the entire amount we've earned this season, the vast majority is from the tv deal

  23. Its scary how many saints players we "want", about half of them I think. I have two questions that I never got an answer back and probably never will about this club. 1. Why we get linked with at least 50 players during a transfer window and 2. Why everybody knows what kits we will wear in the next season months ago? ( this doesnt happen with other clubs at all ever).

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well if we sell the whole current squad we will at least have a back 5 haha!

    ReplyDelete
  25. thanks jockthekop i new i had seen that figure somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  26. He's already lasted longer than I thought he might.

    ReplyDelete
  27. We are in dire need of quality defenders, who can defend, and a keeper who COMMANDS his box. Lovren looks good. I'm sure we would all like to see the Lallana deal sorted, SOON ..

    ReplyDelete
  28. oh for another Jamie Carragher! have to agree George, Lovren and Lallana would be a good start of bringing some quality in..and Can looks good too! thing is, we are all guessing, until we buy someone it's speculation, it does my head in every transfer window, media blows up a story of a desirable player and we end up with someone else!

    ReplyDelete
  29. It does happen to other clubs...like all the time...

  30. More 'Stewart Downing's in the making?

    If we can only get players from Southampton and no where else, we will spend all available money but not going to retain 2nd place in the league and not going to win any match in the group stage of Champions League. Or maybe even worse, back to where we were in the league after KD's sacking.

    Truly nightmarish!

  31. Ive liked Schneiderlin for a while. He was standing out when the others hadn't yet started to shine. Remained one of their top performers despite not getting as much recognition. I'd love him at Liverpool. Can't see Soto selling this many players though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why would that happen? We would still have the team who finished 2nd and if you think players like Lalana, Schneiderlin, Lovren and Shaw wouldn't improve our squad you obviously haven't been paying attention.

    Am tired of all dis rumours, we all know liverpool ain't gonna buy no body, just like salah/kono/ and soo on,

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why would that happen? Simply because there is an authoritative manager to be at Man Utd, further stability at Everton in it's 2nd season under a good manager, possiblity of cohesion among a group of continental players at Spurs under a new manager, highly probable strengthening of attacking force (Diego Costa I'm talking about) by filthy-rich Chelski, constant upgrading of mega-rich Mansour City and finally a wily old fox named Arsene Wenger ready to cast away his image of being an old miser with the real-deal riches of Arsenal.

    I'll really be not paying any attention if I seriously think Lallana is worth 30 mil pounds and players like Schneiderlin & Lovren (combined fee of 32 mil pounds as suggested here), together with Sakho, are going to be the defensive lynchpins for the all-conquering LFC we fans hope it to be. Sorry to say, dream on, my friend, but before that, please watch the match, Southampton vs LFC, again.

  41. One link with A clubs star player and suddenly we want all his team-mates. Definitely silly season is well and truly underway. On a different note, patience is key at the moment. I really dont think rushing into signings is a good idea. I think we'll find one or two 'Gems' rise from the World cup and LFC will be there to muscle it out with the big guns.

  43. If I were to pick anyone from the Southampton squad, I would have picked only this man Morgan S?!?!?!?!n; rest are over hyped, over priced & invariably over paid English Footballers. Sorry for my French. Waiting for ENG Vs Costa Rica match.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Lalana was never in my book, he had a great season, but so was Carroll, Downing & many other English players. However, I don't want Pedro either - one of the biggest problem to bring players from Spanish top 2 is, they are highly expensive (though genuinely talented, not like ...) & they come with a superiority complex from their Camp Nu or Santiago Bernabu days. For the winger position, my top choice is the Sociodad French kid.

  45. I'd rather have Batman, Wolverine and Mystique.

  46. everytime ive seen him play he gets tired and has been subbed! ive never seen him play 90 minutes ... has anybody ? if so tell me and prove me wrong

    ReplyDelete
  47. There maybe a chance we get both, if Reina and agger and Lucas are to be sold we will need to buy cover for gerrard. Buy why not hope big everything is just rumours until they signed on the dotted line. If Suarez is sold for a large fee then we will certainly have the money.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Bound to happen, why would the players want to stay when the guy who got them playing so well in the prem has left, that shows the clubs intent, can see a few of the players who played their hearts out thinking screw it now better start thinking more about me

    ReplyDelete
  49. I am getting tired of all of this. I wish I could just avoid reading all this stories and then just to see the final result of transfers.

    25m for Lallana; 27m for Shaw; 15m for CLyne; 15m for Rodriguez; 12m for Schneiderlin; 12m for Lovren. Six players worth 106m. Southampton would be singing with that much money to invest into the club. Not a reality, but if I were in charge of Southampton, about to start their new 5-year plan, with a new manager due to come in I'd take the 106m and give half to the new manager to replace just six players - an ordinary pre-season transfer window - and put the rest into back up funds for the winter window and infrastructure.

    lovren and schneiderlin would fit perfectly into the squad. we should be worrying more about the defence than the attack. around 30m-32m for both would be good business

    ReplyDelete
  52. Pedro is exactly the type of footballer we need at Liverpool. Pacey, trickery, scores a goal, creates a goal. Just wish we would sign a monster of a midfielder in the centre of the park.

    ReplyDelete
  53. pedro any day of the week and Martinez plus dante or lovern and we wud be solid

    ReplyDelete
  54. So we go after Lallana and Spurs want him, shock. Chelsea go after Shaw but Spurs don't want Shaw? There is clearly something dodgy going on with our scouting staff, are they being paid by both Spurs and Liverpool?

    ReplyDelete
  55. My god!! Southampton, Southampton, Southampton!!! You'd think they've got the Real Madrid squad!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. So Everton will benefit from having stability of another year with their manager yet United and Spurs will benefit from having new managers? And us with another year of our manager? Why would we be the ones to drop down. Everton won't have Lukaku or anyone even close to that standard. Spurs have a very expensively assembled group of players who still need to bed in and with a manager who wants a lot o work on and off the ball. There will be players like Adebuyor who won't like that much at all. There will still be upheaval there.

    Van gaal will have to replace or work on improving a whole back four, they will need to get midfielders and more yet he can't even start planning for the season ahead as he still has his Holland job to do.

    Arsenal even with their wily old fox will not improve exponentially, they have already lost a first choice player they need to replace. Arsene needs defensive cover, a striker and DM (don't be surprised if Schneiderln is mentioned for the DM spot) but he will probably buy another AM. I have heard for years how Arsene was going to spend big that year. Their net spend remained the same. Ozil struck me more of a "he's available" panic buy.

    As for us, we will still have a very good manager who will have had more time to bed his ideas in. A year more for player like Sterling and Coutinho who's potential I don't think any of us are sure of but on their day are two o the best players in the league. We will have champions league and ARE looking at non Soto players as well. Most of whom would improve the side. that came second last year.

    But the Soto players we are linked with? This being the universally acclaimed Southampton who played a brand of pressing football better than our own? Schneiderlin would be a very able deputy for both Henderson and Gerard. Much more aggressive than Allen, much quicker and attacking than Lucas and still young enough to improve further. Lovren, statistically and in most peoples views one of the best defenders in the league before his injury. He is quick, good in the air, comfortable on the ball even when pressured and is still young enough to improve. Lalana may not be worth the money label getting thrown around but at capable of doing things against any team in our league even the Oligarch and Sheik funded. But more than anything else they have all played in the prem, proven to be top performers in the league but better still have played and flourished in a team that plays a way that is similar to ours. Despite not being Ronaldo or Messi (who is it exactly you want us to sign?) there is every possibility they could hit the ground running. Which will be necessary in challenging or the league. PLayers who have never played in the prem, coming from teams who have vastly different styles would potentially need more time to settle. Jesus they may not even know the language.

    If ay of that is news to you then like I have said you were not paying attention.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Would we have much of a chance of poaching Real Madrid's squad?

    ReplyDelete
  58. No more than anyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Batman is shite at footy, Wolverine always bursts the ball and you can't trust Mystique not to change sides at half time if your losing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. What does that even mean??!! I'm just saying all this noise about Southampton, you'd think they'd won the Premiership and the European League!! THEY HAVENT!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. HAHAHAHAHA!!!
    Well, if all else fails, we can do the Professor-X mind trick and 'score' a couple of goals while we time-freeze our opponents.

    ReplyDelete
  62. But they do have good players. It's not like we are linked with their keeper or with Lambert or even Fonte who had a good season. Every team the best players of lesser teams to improve themselves. Soto payed some really good football and Poch had them well drilled in closing down the opposition (as we saw first hand) their best players (those mentioned being linked to us) would improve us. Also it's not like we haven't been linked with none Soto players. We have been linked with as many Barca players as Southampton's.

    ReplyDelete
  63. No suprise at all! I'm still suprised why so many of our supporters rate Lallana SO highly!!
    I'd take Rakitic any day.
    But as Pedro would be good too! Though I think Sanchez would be even better.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yeah he is also good in the air with that hover chair.

    Lovren is an excellent defender IMO, but we will not be the only ones looking for him. The departure of Pocchetino will make other clubs think it's open season at the Saints, though I think it will be harder to get players than the media seem to think. They are a stable club without any real need to sell also I can see Poc going in for one or two aswell.

    The most Soton will let go is 3. If that happens to be Lovren, Schneiderlin and Lallana to Liverpool, I would have no problem with that.
    I would take Schneiderlin over the likes of Diame any day. Lovren is the best defender we have been linked with so far (IMO), a good leader too and I am excited about the possibility of signing Lallana, I think he is a genuine world class player.

    Having said all that it's the typical transfer gossip, we've been linked with about 20 players in the last week, if we get one of the three I'll be happy enough.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Exactly mate. I ranted about that very thing in another post.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yes mate. There is so much hype about Diame from reds and I just don't get it. Schneiderlin over Diame every day of the week. No question.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The only other Sotton player that I'd like to see is Gaston Ramirez - he had a quiet season, but made some decent impacts from the bench. I'm sure he'll have a decent World Cup, and would be worth a shot.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Good players, but its unlikely S'Hampton will rid themselves off all their best players and run the risk of relegation. Can't see that happening.

    ReplyDelete
  70. OK I have had a good laugh at some of the comments, so first things first one report I have been reading states that Brendan will have £100mil to add to the team plus anything from sales, so basically what Liverpool got from TV rights will be given to Brendan which makes sense as that means what was raised from gate revenue and shirt sales, advertising and every other commercial saleing ie dunkin dounuts etc goes to pay day to day running of the club and also means we will not fall fowl of eufa regulations like city and PSG did. Also some players are going to have for a transfer as Liverpool will no longer be held to ransom over price, don't get me wrong no player is worth what is being asked when you consider what a nurse, doctor and the likes of squaddies get payed for what they do, then you look at what the likes of Rooney gets payed, it is reckoned that he is on £43,200 @ day that is twice what nurses and squaddies are getting payed @ year.
