VIDEO: Luis Suarez warms up for LFC return with stunning goal for Uruguay.

With his ten-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic almost over, Luis Suarez will soon be eligible to play for Liverpool again, and he warmed up for his Anfield return with two more goals for Uruguay in last night's World Cup qualifier against Peru.

Uruguay desperately needed a win, and the 2-1 victory puts them on 19 points (three clear of Venezuela), and a step closer to the intercontinental playoff.

Suarez buried a penalty in the 43rd minute, and then produced a stunning finish in the 67th minute to wrap up the game.

Liverpool failed to make a so-called 'marquee signing' during the January transfer window, but in many ways, Suarez can be exactly that. When he returns, it will be like having a new attacking signing, and if he successfully re-integrates into the team, then it will be very positive for the Reds.

Having said that, Suarez should (IMO) have to earn his way back into the team; he shouldn't just be handed a starting spot as soon as he's eligible again. The team is on a great winning streak right now, so why rock the boat, or risk upsetting the obvious positive spirit currently energising the players?

It seems clear that Iago Aspas will be the player who ultimately makes way for Suarez, and I personally don't have a problem with that. The Spaniard has battled well in his three Premier League games for the club, but the Uruguayan will probably have more of an impact in the same role.

  1. But they don't show HOW he WON the penalty. That was some classic Suarez [didn't fake it, though - mastered the opposition defender]. More than that, according to this game, which i've watched - he is not on his top form at all. Still two goals under pressure, what an individual.

P.S - Loved the modern Stevie G bowling goal yesterday.

  2. He is the Marquee signing! When everyone was resigned to him leaving, his staying back is as good as any marquee signing we have. So I hope he is hungry as ever to push us up to top 4.

  5. Suarez will walk in any team including R.Madrid and Barcelona but of course he will have to fight for the starting spot in Liverpool XI. After all we have a better than Barca or Real.

  6. I think that you missed the point. Jaimie is not suggesting that Suarez can not get into the team quality wise, as he's a world class player. But due to his on going antics biting people and dragging LFC's name through the mud in the summer, he should be brought in cautiously as to not disrupt the teams moral being on a winning streak. But with Sturridges injury concerns I'm not sure that option is available to us presently.

  7. Personally I havent been impressed at all with Aspa, in preseason against non league worthy teams he looked ok, but in the Prem he looks no better than Downing, so I would expect him to make way for Suarez.

I want Sturridge to stay up top, as I think he hasa earnt it, but also better there.

On a different note, Coutinho. I know everyone says his best position is AM, and I do agree in a few years it prob will be, but I think right now he is way better out on the left. He gets more space there, and can use his tricks better. Just this season I feel he has been marked tightly and not had a big impact playing AM, compared to when he started out left last season, and in the UTD game. When he is on the left, he looks epic. I think he just needs a big more expereince to to the AM role, and right now we are wasting the talent we have putting him there.

  8. I don't buy that theory.

  9. Exactly my thoughts, i also expect aspas to make space for suarez, iago is a good player at all, but he's not used to english football and it might take some time for him. Whatever theres still a lot of quality in him, not a bad 3rd striker IMO.
I agree with you about coutinho he looks better on the left, put suarez on the right sturridge up front and Gerrard Lucas Hendo midfield 3. that's a strong team! With good players on he bench (aspas, Moses, sterling, skrtel .... )

  10. Agreed, although with the signing of Moses I think Coutinho will be playind AM, even though I think Hendo would be better there for now.

  11. And hes not 100% fit yet! It's too bad he was fouled for the penalty - if he had been allowed to score it would have been a beauty! Was a rough game, he was getting hacked - a player got sent off for kneeing him in the backside - let's hope he doesn't get an ass injury like bale. 1 More game against colombia on tuesday, maybe a few more goals there. Dude is a legend - top scorer in qualifiers, top scorer for Uruguay ever (has more goals than Forlan in 35 less games or something).

Aspas has been doing ok, but the return of Suarez will only motivate the rest - Aspas can come in for either Suarez, Coutinho, or Sturridge should there be a drop of form or an injury (more so in the case of coutinho).

    Glad you posted the video.

    Cheers!

  12. Good finish.

Looking forward to seeing how Suarez does in a wide role for us, especially when without the ball. He has form for playing in that wide position for Ajax but different stage now. I'd be very disappointed if Sturridge was moved wide. Maybe stomach it if it was a interchanging tactic I guess but still, considering Sturridge's form (and to a lesser extent, Suarez's antics), shouldn't have to make way for Suarez straight away

  13. its early days but to me he hasn't the raw ingrediants...pace,power,stregnth....sure hes got a nice touch but he looks like the type of player who suits 442 behind the main striker...a poor mans danny murphy springs o mind
