Confirmed: LFC have definitely signed €5m midfielder who snubbed Barca

In July, multiple reports suggested that Liverpool had agreed a deal to sign coveted Valencia midfielder Pedro Chirivella. LFC have not officially confirmed the youngster's transfer, and he does not appear in the 'team' section of the club's official website. However, Chirivella - who rejected a move to Barcelona in 2011 - is definitely a Liverpool player now, and this is confirmed on his Twitter page.

In mid-July, The Mirror reported:

"Valencia [want] £3.5million [€5m] but [LFC are offering] around £2m less. If no deal can be reached, then a tribunal will set the final fee".

There is no official confirmation anywhere of the signing, so for the sake of factual clarity, here is the proof that Chirivella IS now a Liverpool player:

His profile clearly states 'Jugador del Liverpool FC', which means 'Liverpool player'. It seems that the clubs agreed a fee without recourse to a tribunal.

Prior to the move, Spanish newspaper Vavel reported:

* Chirivella visited Liverpool for two days in June with his parents.
* He toured the city, Anfield, and the club's training complex at Melwood.
* The starlet's parents will move with him, and they'll be guaranteed jobs in Liverpool.
* LFC's intention is to have Chirivella train with the first-team once a week next season.
* The Reds see Chirivella as a possible long-term successor to Steven Gerrard.

When asked in June about his football role models, Chirivella enthused:

"Busquets & Alonso are my favourite players, two different players, but the best in their position. They are the two I admire"

Chirivella seems like a great prospect, but given his age, there's nothing to get excited about yet as it will probably be years before he plays regularly in the first team. However, the youngster is already making an impact for LFC:

- July 30: Scored in the 3-1 Milk Cup Victory over O'Higgins.
- July 31: One assist in the 4-2 Milk Cup victory over Newcastle.
- Aug 1: Scored against Corinthians.
- Aug 2: Another assist in LFC's 4-2 victory over Newcastle in the Globe Cup Final.

Two goals and two assists in four games: Great stuff so far.

  1. Well at least we signed this one BEFORE he went to Barca B

  2. brand FSG know how to sign kids and that's good for our future. But, the season is around the corner and we have HUGE holes and LFC can't make any of the more experienced targets happen. so far, last summer déjà vu is coming into clearer view. Where are Papadopoulis, Siguiera, Cissokho and another experienced striker and an extra midfielder? it's emotionally exhausting to watch us stub our toe except for teenagers......

  3. Sorry am I being daft but he has already played for us but we only just now signed him ? how does that work ? Anyway I remember reading about him on this site so nice one for giving us the heads up. Also we are really starting to get some hot prospects in now and the youth teams are bristling with talent. I see we have sent out the hungarian lad for the season which could be good for him but what about the young german striker Yesil ? How is he looking is he still killing it for the German youth teams ? he could be amazing if he keeps developing at the rate he has been.

  4. Kalel - Chirivella signed last week, then played for LFC youth. I'm just passing on confirmation that he has, as a matter of fact, signed. There's no prior confirmation of the deal.

  7. We need to get this Suarez crap out of the way first. And when he's gone we need to have/replace him with quality. I'm starting to worry about us going into the season without a top class striker and a defence that hasn't had much time together(if Skirtel and Agger go). If this is allowed to happen and we get off to a bad start I fear BR won't be around for these kids anyway so he needs to get his priority straight.

  8. Am I the only one who thinks that, Suarez, "giving his all" was only for the part of the season he wasn't actually banned for. Took one for the club did he?

  9. Lets sign some first team players BR, if he fails to stand by his words then my trust would considerably get lower on him and the management as well. At least they should be honest about what they're doing rather than just blatantly lying to fans about the transfers.

  11. Buying first team players is extremely difficult at the as we achieved only 7th position. Who wants to come LFC as they don't have champions league and europa league?! Attracting players is difficult for us now which is why we are reported to have so many rejections...

  12. It's sickening my friend, Spurs beat us to every player we go for!

No marquee player wants to play for LFC anymore and BR has no pulling power!!

  13. How is it a shambles? Four players signed, 25 days to go in transfer window, 6 wins only 1 goal conceded and team gelling nicely.
And if you mean Suarez... well we all know there's only one person to blame there and its not BR

  14. You have absolutely no grounds or evidence for accusing BR or the club of lying.

  15. Bit of an overstatement there old son!

  16. Your comment probably makes no sense, redraider. That's because it is not shambles that Carr71 was referring to... it is shambols.

  17. he has actually started playing and scoring goals for our u18 side..looking very bright prospect..
he and rossiter are the future of our midfield.

  18. Then where are the signings that we were promised about?

  19. That doesn't mean we don't sign players and there aren't any players available. There are players such as Eriksen about whom every LFC fan was heaping praise until Henrikh Mkhitaryan came into existence. There are players such as Papadopolous and Alderweireld who would happily come to us.

  21. I for one don't care about marquee players, u can sign a marquee player and he doesnt perform... but u can get an excellent squad player for even 3million and he will be a great hit... there are prove for that ... like Reina, Hypia, Garcia, so the most important thing is to get an excellent player who can fit into the team and then i can bet that we will beat all expectation.... and as for Suarez, oh yes i would love him to stay, but when u build ur team with players that have no humility, u will go far, but u will never last at the top, so if we have him we are BETTER of but if we sell him... IT WILL BE THE BEST FOR US... remember no player is a champion of his own, he needs the other players in his team to help him...there are numerous players who pursue glory and never find them (Ibrahamovic)... some get the glory but never get satisfied (Toress, Robiho, Owen) so if he leave the team will remain and they will even perform better cos responsibility will be shared.
