With only three weeks to go before the summer transfer window closes, Liverpool are running out of time to sign the experienced players required to help the club push-on to the next level. Many fans are disheartened by the club's failure - so far - to attract a 'marquee' signing, but Rodgers insists that the club's transfer business is far from over.
In a press conference in Norway on Tuesday evening, Rodgers claimed that he still plans to to bring in 'a few more players' over the next couple of weeks, and he specifically outlined exactly where his focus lies. He told reporters:
"We need one or two players to cover positions where we're a little bit short, and also probably looking to bring in maybe one or two in the attacking areas"
That's potentially FOUR new players to arrive at Liverpool before the month is out, which - depending on the players acquired - will be a much-needed shot in the arm for the squad. Whether this actually happens remains to be seen, and I personally can't see LFC pulling off four top quality signings in three weeks.
Rodgers also reiterated Liverpool's main goal for next season:
"Our main target is to progress from where we were last season. The challenge is to get into the Champions League positions, and go as high as we possibly can. That has to be the main target, to arrive in the top four."
It's good to hear Rodgers openly say that Champions League qualification is Liverpool's number one priority. That's the way it should be, and failure to achieve that this season will be a massive disappointment.
At the beginning of July, Brendan Rodgers told reporters:
"What we've done in the early part of the summer is to improve the squad. Now what's important over the next three to five weeks is improving the team".
Liverpool did well in the early part of the window to snap up four players, and if the Reds had also signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the prevailing fan-mood would probably be a lot more optimistic right now.
Ideally, it's best to get all transfer done and dusted before the season starts, but if that doesn't happen this year, it's not the end of the world. If one or two players arrive on transfer-deadline day, then so be it. As long as they're right players, I don't see the problem.
The nagging question is, though: will the players who come in be cheap squad players, or proven, experienced performers capable of making an immediate impact in the first team? Hopefully, it will be the latter. Please, no more 'promising' young players who'll come good in about four years.

LB and CB at the back, (papadopoulous and cissokho) and up top costa and someone else... :) heard zenit want skrtel back. We should sell for 12 million
ReplyDeleteHeard it all before Brendan. Fact is, you aren't very good at signing players and would rather leave us desperately short of players than match a selling clubs valuation even if the difference is negligible.
ReplyDeleteSame story everyday, do we hve to wait till deadline b4 u bring in the new players
ReplyDeleteYour being a little too optimistic Jaimie, I'd be happy with two.
ReplyDeleteThe probnlem is not the quantity it's the quality that I'm more concerned about.
I'm not to worried about Marquee signings because Suarez, was NOT a marquee signing when he came.
If the scouting and board can produce players like Couthinio and Sturridge then I think we can have a stab at the Top Four.
If anyone hasn't already said so we Arsenal are NOT in the champions league they are yet to qualify
Yeah cos Courtinho and Sturridge are shite?Behave ya rocket
ReplyDeleteCoutinio and Sturridge are not Brendans signings then ?
ReplyDeleteI mist have missed something
I wonder if Brendan reads these articles and then these comments?
ReplyDeleteI think we'll go back in for Tom Ince even though I don't think we need him
ReplyDeleteNot quite sure how you can say he is not very good at signing players. Sturridge and Coutinho stand out as very good purchases. Why should we match every valuation for a player when teams can't even match our valuations for our own players. BR, Ayre and the club are actually running the club properly and making us self sustainable instead of being millions of pounds in det and I would much rather see that than us try and purchase multi million pound players and struggle in the future financially.
ReplyDeletewe can sign twenty players but if they are not players to take us forward now ,we may as not sign any
ReplyDeletei understand the guys frustation , we will end up short again, we could have had the money from saurez sale spent by now but things are never simple under rodgers though i am not sure if its his doing .
ReplyDeletethink hes to busy to read those things, or i hope so lol
ReplyDeleteI feel like the prevailing mood when we signed the four players at the beginning of the summer was that we were getting our business done early.
ReplyDeleteNow, the criticism is that we haven't brought in a marquee signing (fair), and that we haven't improved the team (in my opinion, unfair).
If we haven't improved the team, then why would people be happy with the four signings at the beginning of the summer.
Let's all relax for a moment and realize there's still almost one month before the window closes.
I've said it before... this summer will be deemed a success based largely on what happens with how we handle the Suarez saga, and if he's sold, what we do with the money.
Ally Cissokho to toughen up the defence & Costa to make a proper nuisance of himself would be my choice, with Assaidi on a course of steroids to beef up!
ReplyDeleteMignolet
ReplyDeleteEnrique Agger Papadopulos Johnson
Allen Eriksen Gerrard
Aspas Coutinho Sturidge
Plus Lukas, Sterling, new lb and a new striker. Not attacker, striker. With other promising youngsters, and flops that might turn out good after all, we can reach top 4. Hopefully we will sell Skrtel and Downing for 20-23, and Suarez for 55-60. Than next year fill the gaps and win the bloody Premier. Though we can do it this year too..
top, experienced players want cl. unless we pay a stupid amount, which we are usually very good at, we will no be seeing those players. toure aside. i don't want to rely on 'star'players anymore, i ant to see the team as the star.
ReplyDeleteat least 5 players
ReplyDeleteIf he does, OriginalChan will be his next signing...
ReplyDeletehow much did he cost again
ReplyDeleteIs it not also important to think about who we lose as well? at this stage we have swapped Reina, Shelvey, Suso and Carra for Mignolet, Toure, Aspas and Alberto...so numbers wise we are no better off than when we finished last season when we were definitely 'short of players'. So I don't really see that we have improved the squad either in quality or quantity. I would now not be surprised to see us sign 3/4 players, but also let 3/4 go. Certainly expect to sign a CB around the same time we sell Skrtel, followed by our attacking player purchase around the time Suarez goes...along with a new tea lady when Downing leaves! Badum Tsk!!
ReplyDeleteagree m8 swapping player for player but lowering the wage bill thats what this summer as been about not about progress
ReplyDeletethey are but i did not realise he had only signed two players
ReplyDeletei think he posts on here
ReplyDeletecould be because he missed out on billy the cat
ReplyDeleteI don't know about Rodgers, but I know for a fact that quite a few people from LFC (including players, backroom staff etc) visit this site.
ReplyDeleteAnd me thinks it is between you and Costa now...
ReplyDeletei would be a marque signing, and would cost to much ,maybe if rodgers promised he would let me leave if we did not get CL next season i would consider it but i would have to make sure that my contract was water tight before even thinking about signing it,if not and i had to go to arbratracetion to settle it ,and it found in my favour it could put other top players of signing
ReplyDeleteBaseless.
ReplyDeleteThe four players who've come in are (overall) upgrades on the players who've left.
* Kolo Toure* > Wilson
* Luis Alberto > Suso (Last season's stats prove it)
* Iago Aspas > Shelvey (Again, last season's stats suggest this)
* Simon Mignolet > Reina
* On a par with Carra perhaps, maybe even a better option due to athleticism and age.
The squad has, so far, been improved. That is progress. The addition of Coutinho and Sturridge in January was also progress.
Pre-season so far: 5 games, 5 wins, thirteen goals scored, NONE conceded. Aspas on fire; Mignolet and Toure solid. This is another sign of progress.
come on jaimie do not leave us in suspenders who
ReplyDeleteLet's also not forget about the progression of the younger players...
ReplyDeleteSterling, Ibe, Wisdom, Kelly, even Henderson, Allen, and Borini should all be progressing (though the latter 3 are a bit older).
Point is... just because we haven't brought in more players, does not mean more players aren't available to us.
Can't say, otherwise my stalker will start harassing them too.
ReplyDeletelet ur stalker harass suarez if he leaves please ^^
ReplyDeletecan i just say how your comment made my day ;)
ReplyDeletedidnt mean what i said in any negative way JK .... hope u book that mook soon :)
ReplyDeletetoure was for carragher, alberto how many games do you think he is going to start, aspas hes looked ok in friendlys ,but some of his passing leaves a lot to be desired ,mignolet as looked far from solid ,when coming for the ball and he his nowhere near pepe when it comes to distribution, we have played no one and at times the defence as been all over the place,
ReplyDeleteThere are players who are available but i don't think they may want to play for us at all, unless they are under 24 and cost £ 10 Million or less
ReplyDeleteBuy me a beer and tell me all about it.
ReplyDeleteOne day Lol......
ReplyDeleteBut if Brendan doesn't read article likes this then why write them if they have no affect on who stays or goes or who Brendan buys or who he sells? Surely there's got to be better things to with your time than to write articles that are essentially worthless.
ReplyDeleteok but now you have let it slip, its obvious i am john barnes incognito as its clear for everyone to see i am your favourite
ReplyDeleteI would not say it is baseless..perhaps I omitted to put 'in my opinion'. but that is what i was expressing.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts were as follows -
Reina = Mignolet (taking into account overall records over the years)
Carra > Toure
Shelvey & Suso < Alberto & Aspas , this one was very difficult as Alberto and Aspas were playing football very much removed from the premiership. I also think Shelvey will be excellent for Swansea this year, will definitely outshine Alberto in the prem
So i would say we have not improved, not to say we have gone backwards...just a neutral position.
The main thrust was that number of players signed or to be signed can mask an overall shake up rather than an improvement or expansion.
I was surprised to see you be so positive on this point as a recent theme has been getting experience into or being retained in the squad....
looking at rumour mill we may lose Skrtel, Agger and Suarez...thats a lot of experience to add to Reina and Carra leaving the team. Will be interested to see who is replacing them
There's a difference between what we are looking for and who will actually sign for us.
ReplyDeleteBottom line is that in our current position, we would have to overpay to bring a marquee name here as long as he has an offer from a team in the Champions League.
The fans may not care, but in order to make sure the organization is self-sustaining, there has to be a semblance of financial responsibility...
sorry m8 but if we have any aspirations of top four sterling and ibe, would be subs at best and seldomly used (agree they are still young)kelly should also be a sub used more often and possibly get some starts ,imo henderon should start and borrini should be sold or loaned out
ReplyDeletelartpourlartism. Look it up.
ReplyDeleteIf you go by his words that he'd sign 4 players as you mentioned then it good but if not then its the worst thing, I wouldn't trust the management as well as BR. Tough times ahead for LFC if we do not sign the players that he's mentioning. At least for the sake of competition he should sign a few players.
ReplyDeleteShelvey will be among the best in Swansea.
ReplyDeleteIMO, you're just finding negatives for the hell of it (as usual). How do you know how many games Alberto will start? What would he not start a lot of games?
ReplyDeleteLots of players in the team have wayward passing at times. Who cares? Aspas is doing his MAIN job, which is scoring and creating goals.
Mignolet has FIVE CLEAN SHEETS in five games, which suggests he's doing a good job, yet you focus on vague, generalised irrelevancies.
The defence hasn't conceded a goal in five games yet it's 'all over the place'? In what way? A defence's job is to stop goals being scored. That is being fulfilled.
Things may change when the season starts, but for now, the team is doing well.
My 'baseless' comment was in reply to CARR71 ;-)
ReplyDeletetook me three lines to express the same thing to you.
ReplyDeletebut jaimie they have played and i mean this as no offence to the teams we have played cannon fodder, and if the defence as looked at times all over the place ,hows it going to cope against the good teams,
ReplyDeleteYou can only beat the team put in front of you. Why isn't it possible that LFC will continue their good form into the new season?
ReplyDeleteAlso, please provide examples of exactly how the defence is 'all over the place'. That is just a vague generalisation. Five clean sheets blows that contention out of the water.
I agree but allen, sturridge and courtiho were all under 10 million. We need 4 players now but its not B-rod its henry not freeing up funds until we sort out the payroll.Eriksen, bernard, cissokho and papa for me
ReplyDeleteNot been all that impressed with the level of signings we have made so far regardless of what happens in pre-season, although they are supposedly for boosting the squad. So I hope to see a few to boost the first team, as we have signed anyone so far that looks like a certainty to do that.
ReplyDeletei said at times they have been all over every side we,have played have created a certain amount of panic in our defence what would a decent side do ,also yes we have scored goals but other sides put a dam site more past them, yes you can only play whats infront of you but upto now the we have hardly done it with a style that we have any of our league competitors worried ,swansea put four past a side in the europa the other night a side imo thats better than what we have played so far,i predicted 6th for this season ,wecould have got top four if we kept suarez and added quailty ,as things stand ,and we lose suarez my prediction would be top ten
ReplyDeleteallen and sturridge were over ten million
ReplyDeleteOk 12 million but theyre not 20 million pound flops. His signings have been good, barring borini who i think will go back to italy. But we need a big 2 big names now
ReplyDeleteHenderson will never be good enough. If youre picking faults surely you can see that ?He does everything o.k.Hes not fast, can,t pass, not good on the ball...get eriksen in and put a late bid for xabi
ReplyDeleteno chance, just heart Real is after Carr now...
ReplyDeleteI might be too optimistic, but I actually am quite happy for the progress so far. After all the loading, off-loading, I believe we still need a CB, a LB, a DM, attacking wingers to replace Downing & Assaidi & if Suarez leaves (which looks almost certain), we 'll need a CF. Now, what should
ReplyDeleteBR do, buy one by one according to priority with a tick box list or try exactly what he is trying to do - keep searching for options with value for money till you get best fit (unless you have Oil money from Middle-east or Mafia money from Russia). We must remember that, we are not a CL team & already has taken significant transfer loss.
Coming to the possible transfers, for LB, we are chasing 4 targets & had there not been a work permit issue, Melgarejo would had been our player by now. Still I believe Cissokho 'll be our player before Sep 01 & a good one.
For CB, unless Skartel & Coates leaves, we shouldn't invest specially when we have 4 other CBs. I think we are waiting to sell Skartel & off-load Coates with a top quality CB & a young prospect is in line. The Board is just waiting for Skartel & Coates to leave & nothing wrong with that. You can't keep a 70k/week+ player when you are not going to play him. We shouldn't bid for a CB because, the moment a CB joins, Skartel & Coates 'll be priced half as the potential suitors are not stupid. If Skartel & Coates leaves for around 17m combined, I am sure someone Alderwield, Papa or Godin 'll join & we have very good relation with Sporting - Illory 'll replace Coates.
CM/DM is required but probably least in priority, with 4 established CMs already doing well with the Spanish boy Alberto. I don't think BR plays with a power DM, rather he ;ll go for holding B2B. Still I believe, if deadwood like Spearing (to establish whom KK off-loaded a Pourtuguese International) can be off-loaded, BR might buy a toughman in January (He tried for the Brazilian boy from Seria A though). Also, with aging, I believe SG 'll go more to a CM/DM role like Pirlo or Scholes which 'll be perfect, if Lucas & Allen keeps fit.
For AM, Ericksen might come, might not, as I don't think it's a burning issue yet as long as Pipo is fit. BR actually tried to buy Mekhterian, but for the 3rd party ownership & call from CL runners up. I actually would like to see Texiera given some time at AM & next year Suso 'll come back.
Even if Suarez stays, he 'll play at CF or wings, which means
either Aspas or Downing to play at wings, unless we waste 2 very good central player (Sturridge, Borini) at wings or risk boys like Sterling, Ibe. I would rather say, even with Suarez, we need 2 wingers - quality wingers that is, who can dribble fast & cut back, not sky hoofers like Downing, so that for 90 mins, we can keep pressing. & I am quite happy that BR is trying for Costa & Capel. BR plays a high back line & if two Diego joins, we 'll keep defending in opposition half like MU had been doing for so many years under SAF.
Like most, I myself is frustrated with the transfer dealings, but these things do take time & I don't want the KK days howlers repeated. Also, the FFP or not, we need to off-load players like Downing first. Come September, I am sure we 'll have quite a formidable squad.
Channge enrique(hes shite)for cissokho or the young lad at st etienne and aspas for bernard. But yeah more or less
ReplyDeleteBernard would be great...
ReplyDeletecarroll has left ....and we will lose suarz and downing as well...our squad as a whole will be weaker .
ReplyDeletespot on m8
ReplyDeleteif hendo wont ever be good enough god help us as hes better than most of the squad
ReplyDeletethe tea ladys bit on the side
ReplyDeleteI believe he will sign 4 players, the more important you should be asking is "Will the players we sign be an improvement over what we already have"
ReplyDeleteMaybe that is the case, or maybe after the money wasted during KK reign that the Club now refuse to pay vastly over inflated prices for players.
ReplyDeleteWas hard to vote as I think it all depends on how much we get for Suarez when he goes. I dont think FSG will put in any money for transfers, so the amount brought will depend on how much we get. I expect if we do sign a few, there will be 3 unheard of, or not very good B team players, or players with injury records, then one Marquee signing, who until we sign him we wont have heard of, but will then say is amazing, dispite never seeing the guy play.
ReplyDeleteI would have a lot more faith if this wasnt what was said last summer, which turned out to be no players after it was stated we will be signing one of two more.
aint that the truth. None of the signings so far fill me with joy. Toure is ok and Migo would have been ok, however Reina was a top keeper, so not sure if its a improvement or not. However ok isnt what i`m after. I want great. I dont see the point in signing squad players unless ur first XI is sorted, as then you sign a first teamer and move the old one to be a squad player. Why sign back up for Downing as example, when Downing aint good enough.
ReplyDeleteexactly
ReplyDeleteDon't know how many will arrive but the club def needs around 5players to be top 4 contenders.
ReplyDeleteWhen Suarez fu cks off - 2 strikers - an attacking mid, a left back and centre back.
I cant see why its baseless, a persons view on who is better is just that, so hard to say its anymore baseless than your view. I would assume you are basing your view from stats, others might base it from what they saw, or potential etc etc. I personally dont think you can use stats for comparing players who are so young and in different leagues. Alberto did very well, however he was surrounded by some of the worlds best youngsters, which might or might not have made his role easier. It is very possible though like you say that alberto is better than Suso, but for me as I dont rate Suso as a first team player, I dont really see replacing him as that big a deal. Making the reserve team stronger doesn`t win you the league. Alberto could do well and play loads of games for the first team, but that is unknown right now, Mixing stats would appear to just be using cherry picked ones to suit a point of view. Toure better than Carra not because of stats but because of age, then stats used for a different player comparisons.
ReplyDeleteOverall I do agree the squad is stronger, just i wouldnt really call it worth while progress. It is only just stronger imo.
or even better; good enough to get us top 4. Being better than Downing isnt that great unless the player is so much better we can get top 4. Being better than Coates wouldnt be that good either.
ReplyDeleteYou mean like spending half of it on costa, a player who is always banned? and has had one good season to date. I`m sure we wouldn`t do a thing like that.
ReplyDeleteWhich could have been done if you add up the cash spent on squad players so far. We always say we dont have CL so cant sign top players, yet Spurs have and so have other teams who aint in CL. I do agree it makes it harder, but it is possible.
ReplyDeleteWe need a major midfield talent.Allen does not have presence or the quality to compete at this level and the spent on him and Borini was money wasted. What happened to all the talk about Erikson??????.Let Suarez go ; this public wrangling is ugly and damaging the image oof the club. And yes Reina is quite to feel aggrieved. His long, loyal service was simply swept aside ........he was dumped.Veryy shabby...Shanks would turn over in his grave. That is not the Liverpool way.
ReplyDeletechristian eriksen for me is the most important player to bring in.
ReplyDeletewith im in the cam and coutino and sterling/aspas playing wide and sturridge up front well defenitely be one of the most dangerous teams in europe, behind them playing gerrard and lucas.
I'd say at least 2 will come in, possibly even all 4 mentioned. Pretty confident we'll get a left back as Rodgers has said and by the rumours going around (might be on loan though). Melgarejo looks like a no-go now, so Cissokho or Siqueira maybe?
ReplyDeleteGiven that we've more or less confirmed we were in for Mkhitaryan, I think we may get a goalscoring midfielder, that could just come down to whether the right player is available though. Not sure who this could be, Eriksen keeps getting mentioned but the Echo said we weren't interested and he's more a creator than anything. Rodgers keeps mentioning that he wants players that will bring more goals into the team.
Another versatile attacker looks likely too. I reckon we will get Diego Costa, even though the buzz about that has died down a bit this week. He can play across the front and by his own admission he likes to play wide (I thought I'd clarify because many reports seem to be making him out as some sort of target man just because he's fairly tall and strong). His conversion rate is brilliant so I'd be confident of him scoring goals as long as he is playing, and he chipped in with a good number assists last season.
The fourth could be a centre back. The Skrtel to Napoli story keeps cropping up and if we do lose a centre back I'd expect one to come in. We could get a good fee for Skrtel and with his wages off the bill we could justify someone like Papadopolous or Alderweireld.
The number (and maybe quality) of our signings, I think will come to down to whether we sell Suarez, which it looks probable that we will at the moment.
So you go to buy a car the guy says ok come over and you can have the car for 10k but come quick before I sell the same car to another guy for 7k.
ReplyDeleteWould you say I'll be right there?
No you would say on your bike.
When we talk about transfers mate understand something the difference between 5 and 7 to you might just be numbers but to the owners there is a BIG difference as it is THEIR money, when you have a few billion and no business sense you go run Liverpool that way, id be very happy to see it, but id be worried what was going to happen when you saw you were losing A LOT of money.
We got business owners not Hobby ones deal with it, just take in mind they in the past have show to be good at what they do in other sports (not just baseball)
At least the Liverpool fans commenting on you would have a clue who you are, and could actually judge based on more than 2.19 of YouTube video
ReplyDeleteAlready slating Aspas?? Jeez he's scored 4 in 5 already. Tough crowd.
ReplyDeleteBT sport thing is saying BR has come out and said hes had enough of Suarez dragging our name through the dirt, they think its paving the way to selling him, probably to Arsenal
ReplyDeleteBut that's what I mean... in terms of players to pick from, the team should be deeper by default.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying we need to rely on these guys to be playing week in and week out. But we have better depth, not necessarily because we have more player, but because the players creating the depth got better themselves.
interesting take of the suarez situation from Steve Nichol i saw earlier.
ReplyDeleteOn the transfer speculation its quite clear we are in for a left back. Was hoping he was going to sign a top defender but that doesnt look like happening, i see we get linked to toby alderwield from ajax but if norwich had a bid accepted around 8/9 mill then i find it hard to believe we are interested because surely we would have made a bid by now. Same goes for Christian Eriksson. Really have no idea what we are going to end up with. If we do end up selling suarez hopefully we will get another top forward so we can forget about him asap, just like when he arrived we forgot about torres, I dont want a situation where we dont get a replacement and the media bang on about not replacing him when we are not playing well. Who is going to be interested though, for example Jackson Martinez scores a shed load for porto and is available for 35 but would he give up champs league for us, i cant see it.
and the PFA has also backed up LFC's stance on the clause.
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/StupidFootball/status/365210593403236352/photo/1
ReplyDeleteTell me that pic wasn't taken today!
even though king kenny is a LEGEND at Anfield he made a lot of mistakes the second time as a manager ,caroll and dowling were big mistakes and BR is taking the stick for it ,fsg dont want to spend big after all the let downs ,i think BR will bring back the good old days to LFC again YNWA.
ReplyDeleteSteve Nicol by any chance, ?
ReplyDeleteSee he is saying Suarez is right.
http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/130807/exclusive-%E2%80%93-steve-nicol-claims-luis-suarez-%E2%80%98honourable-guy%E2%80%99-and-slams-li-2032
The winners, and CL will be in the top ten also.
ReplyDeleteWhat is not the Liverpool way is, saying I would like to play for Barca.
ReplyDeleteArsenal cannot get Suarez now, so they will want Benzema, £40mill,
ReplyDeleteRM will then want Suarez, wait and see.
Assaidi just needs to hit the gym and he'll be a world beater hahaha! ;)
ReplyDeleteIts cos they've not heard of him, de facto he must be shit..
ReplyDeleteI look at it that we've technically gained Kelly too haha!
ReplyDeleteBy selling to Arsenal? Behave.
ReplyDeleteIn that case, I'm young, play left back, I'll cover Enrique...Sign me up :)
ReplyDeleteIs it unrealistic to hope for the following players to come in and help us push on
ReplyDeleteCissokho or Siqueira as left back cover
Papadoplous- CB
Erikse or Costa- My favs with regards to what is left available to us in the market
then if suarez leaves
we look to bring in muriel, benzema or Zlatan (i know i know but i like him)
I also hear Anzhi are having a pre-season sale with their squad
Given your command of the English language, or rather the lack of it, it would be near impossible, CARR71, for you to ensure that you have a watertight contract before you put ink to paper.
ReplyDeletePapadopoulos,lorenzo,elriksen,...sanchez(to replace suarez)
ReplyDeleteThe Bubble seems to have burst at Anzhi so I'd say put in a bid for Lacina Traore and Mbark Boussoufa
ReplyDeleteFowler,
ReplyDeleteAgree that the three defenders would be ideal since Skrtel is likely gone if we get all 3. Costa not happening. I would love to believe BR isn't full of crap. Might we sign 4 guys? Maybe.will they be real quality with some sped and experience? Want to believe but very skeptic, sadly.
I want to believe BR will sign 4 guys but am skeptical for two reasons:
ReplyDelete1. Four guys with strength speed experience and skill?
2. After the season is underway? Let signings hinder getting off to a good to start because chemistry not given time to develop.
Really hope we fill our needs on D, mid and striker. LIke I said weeks ago, LS is gone. So we need to spend prior to his departure before the best of the rest are gone. We recoup cost when he is sold......
price is not really the issue they are good enough or they are not,we have to many players that are not
ReplyDeletei do not know wether to take that as a compliment or not;-)
ReplyDeletewrong site again m8,i bet you cannot wait to get your kids back in class
ReplyDeleteits always been my dream to get massive wages
ReplyDeletehaha
ReplyDeletetotally agree if we are buying back up for poor players whats the point,we should be buying players to replace them and improve the team
ReplyDeletei did not comment on allen as my feelings are well known
ReplyDeletebut we do rely on these players because our squad is so poor
ReplyDeletefair point m8
ReplyDeleteWell we have made about 24/25 mill in sales and spent about the same on new signings so if the 20 mill kitty we started with is to be believed that is how much we have available until we sell more players. I can see Saurez going and getting replaced but when you lose 1 top player and bring in a replacement it's not counted as adding .same as kolo toure coming in to add experience? We've not added any more experience to the back then what we had last season, we've just replace carragher .
ReplyDeleteYou can't expect BR to completely overhaul the mess he was handed, just like that Jas! Your right there are still some players that are not quite good enough to take us all the way to the top but for now they will do the job. Besides given the state of the squad BR inherited, the overpriced players, on to high a wage he had to get rid of, the age limit he was given and the lack of funds he was handed to do it all I think he has done an excellent job so far, to be honest. We do need some more quality though if he is aloud to pursue it and I think we should be looking at Cissokho, Alderweireld, Jackson Martinez and Scott Sinclair. Sinclair made a huge mistake going to city, we could all see that he was just going to rot on the bench, like so many other talented players (Sturridge, Nasri, Johnson, Richards etc etc) and its just a waste and one we should capitalize on. He is quick, skillful, premier league tested as we have all seen him torment defences over the past few years and he will be available fairly cheaply to as City look to offload him! If we got these I'd be pretty pleased for sure. YNWA
ReplyDeleteYou have something in common with suarez ;) lets hope not to much hahah
ReplyDeleteyeah we have been hearing about us looking to get first team players as our next set of transfers- BR needs to back that up now. It would be good if we can do this before the season starts and if we can get some proper quality players that make a statement to the rest of the league
ReplyDeletethe thing is i do not buy we were in as big a mess as people make out, rodgers has had plenty of money ,but the majority of his signings have not improved the squad, imo we were lucky last season and he got results at the right time,i still say the 1st nine games will determing our season,if we are not very near the top after nine games we will not be anywhere near the top at the end of the season ,and it could well turn into another massive let down
ReplyDeleteWould personally go for Willian from Anzi, that guy can really play.
ReplyDeleteI think we hav now enough of lyoung players this is the time we add good aged players to neutralise the experience but suarez want abuse the club like fullish and yet he get his popularity here he must be punished for his continues indescipline by stoping his transfer this seasn if wenger blocked Walcot to liverpool and yet he willing to join but kept descipline his club and his manager who is Suarez to make alot noise ther very many far much players than himthn him
ReplyDeleteAgreed, we need to unload Borini, the boy isn't suited to the EPL which is why he didn't cut it at Chelsea.
ReplyDeleteI doubt they would let him go six months after signing him...Anyway, it could well be that they won't let anyone go but that they just won't add any big signings either. In fairness, with their return on investment, you'd think Commoli handled their transfer business.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool should have signed taarabt. He would have been a good foil for Sturridge, and have Coutinho drop into midfield or interchange, he can improve the squad and has good skill, but too late now. Sturridge is now our main striker, Mr. Suarez has made sure of that now. Arsenal barely made it to top 4 last season and needed a big unbeaten run to get it, and with Bale on his way out, selling Suarez to Arsenal would be complete suicide and will be a double negative for Liverpool, a team challenging for top 4. I would let Suarez rot in the reserves, or sell him on the cheap to any club abroad. Possibly a player trade with Juventus, AC Milan or Real Madrid?!?!? I defended Suarez because I believed he would still show 110 percent effort if Liverpool made him stay, which Liverpool have the power to do. But I'm not sure of that anymore. I have his jersey and number but I'm sure I'm not gonna wear it again because he has shown a lack of respect for demanding a move to another PL club. He makes Torres look good FFS lol.
ReplyDeleteReina put a gun to the club's head when he said that if Barca came in for him he would want to go. Brendan Rodgers was protecting the club by signing Mignolet, who is a top keeper. Although sad to see Reina go, he really can have no complaints as he will be playing in the Champions League this season. Yes he loves Liverpool and wished to say a proper goodby but he can still do that via the official website if he wishes to as he is still "owned" bu LFC.
ReplyDeleteAnzhi have announced that their entire squad is transfer listed and for sale, the owner is looking to massively downsize his expenditure and ambitions got the club. They're not broke but he is scaling everything down! William is included as a transfer listed player.
ReplyDeleteCoutinho,Sturridge,Aspas, mignolet,Allen,Alberto have all improved us though? Stats back that up. "Lucky last season" how do you work that out?:)
ReplyDeleteWell in that case...there are quite a few there who could do a job at Anfield
ReplyDeleteWould definitely sell Suarez if we could get Willian as his replacement. Only trouble is would he want to come to Liverpool FC? Liverpool aren't the only ones looking at the Anzi situation, Arsenal and a whole host of other European clubs like Juve are too. Could Brendan Rodgers persuade him that the project that he has at Liverpool FC is going to get us Champions League football next season? Is the project going to give players at Liverpool a high enough worldwide profile to gain selection for their national teams for next years world cup? These things are potential deciders for top players.
ReplyDeleteTom Ince wouldn't improve the team. We have Sterling and Ibe anyway.
ReplyDeleteBernard signed for Shaktar today. Another opportunity missed.
ReplyDeleteYou can rule out Arsenal. If they end up paying 50 million plus for Suarez, their spending will be done this summer. It must be killing Wenger though, getting 20 odd million for RVP and then buying the guy who finished behind him in the top scorers list for more than double! Anyway, Boussoufa is an extremely gifted player who can play on the left of a 433 frontline and he only cost them 7 million to begin with.
ReplyDeleteReally jaimie, I must say I would slap that little dog for botting us and not respecting us for supporting in his worst time....
ReplyDeleteWould like to see Papadopoulos and Eriksen at LFC
ReplyDeleteRegardless of everything - so far so good. The valeringa game although weak opposition and a friendly, proved how much the existing group of lads want to play for the club and you cant bottle that. They were energetic, tactical and decisive and they WILL bring it to the premiership against all opposition - wait and see. They were stringing some fantastic passes together and with the likes of Sturridge back on board, we cant really complain going into what i believe is BR's first season after putting his feelers out and settling into one of the biggest clubs in the world - if not the biggest - daunting at 40-years-of age - love the man and Mr Pascoe. Erikson, Alderweireld, and Suarez's mum for me. She can tell us why he turned out to be the ungrateful guttersnipe that he is :)
ReplyDeleteWe'l get someone experienced and prolific up front to fill the void assuming we get the two danes - Europe may sit up and take notice then when we start playing the Liverpool way.
YNWA
Suarez WAS a marquee signing - Carroll's (&Torres' departure) ridiculous fee just took the attention away from Suarez's signing
ReplyDeleteI love Traore, but I doubt Rodgers would put in a bid. Having a 6'8 player on the pitch, no matter what the philosophy, would make players instinctively hoof the ball up more (we saw this with Crouch).
ReplyDeletecompletely agree however that wasnt what I was on about at all.
ReplyDeleteI dont think they will get anyone, watch them go for benzema and him come to us lol
ReplyDeleteall its achieved is a rift between once friendly fans lol
ReplyDeleteThey had a striker that was a monster this huge black fella was cracking when i watched a match is that Traore?
ReplyDeleteMate is is or did we even contact them? Im happy with rogers judgment, so far we've let in one goal pre season, out of everyone ive watched pre season we have been playing the best if you ask me. As for who were they we were playing sort of comments (the same people as everyone else) and were beating teams we should beat which is a positive for us, i can see us really putting the shits up the so called top 4 in the first 10 games when we dont drop more than 6 points
ReplyDeleteHe didnt leave us desperately short, he got rid of a load of crap kenny had brought in, then was left with kids and small squad due to teams thinking we are a soft touch who will pay everything , this last few transfer windows are to show we will buy elsewhere and not be held ransom to transfer fee's because we are LFC
ReplyDeleteBut it has improved the squad completely, all this 8th n 7th place rubbish is just that ... rubbish. We managed to finish 7th after the first half of the season with kids, the points we lost in those games were not BRs fault or FSG's they had to send out the message we wouldn't overpay, so we missed out on someone who as it was had just had his purple patch we saw that and said no. If we had got Dempsey everyone now would be calling for heads after he had a shit season.
ReplyDeleteThe second half of the season saw pundits having lots to say about how well we were playing, its all good Jason and like i said i think minimum 24 points first 10 games. They feel pretty ready to me and hungrier than any other team to show doubters wrong. YNWA that's my prediction 24 points out of 30 (its actually 30 out of 30 but hey you have to have some leeway)
Hes going to mate, for some reason i just have a feeling, another if he doesn't go thats looked pretty good in pre season is Assaidi, I dont get why we would sell him after seeing some good sparks when hes a young lad
ReplyDeleteI've thought for years when i see players leaving us huh how did you work that price out? Over payed in the past and totally undersold now its coming good, think of all the monies were saving that they will re invest, LFC can make lots of money so no reason they shouldn't be buying players in, i think this season we get back to CL, i cant see Spurs or Everton having another go now, I think our main rival this year is going to be the gunners
ReplyDeleteReally ... who was he before he came to LFC because i didnt hear the world talking about him, he wasnt a Cavanni or Benzema known to the world ? Our last Marquee signing was torres, known to the world before he came to us for years, now thats marquee
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't surprise me if he did come on here, hes so in depth with the fans and everyone concerned with the club i wouldnt put it past him to see what the fans are saying on the biggest LFC forum,....WAIT A MIN!!!! ..... Jason are you BR ?
ReplyDelete24 points first ten games i would settle for twenty ,and anything less rodgers time is up
ReplyDeleteWhether we actually tried to get him or not is irrelevant. We're constantly allowing clubs to buy the players we need and restrict ourself to bargain basement shopping. I find it incredibly naive to think that guys like Aspas and Alberto will turn out to be world beaters who are actually worth four or five times what we paid come next May and Touré won't be around forever just like Gerrard. If you want to buy quality you need to spend money. Sure you can get lucky and find a Hyypia every now and again but for every Hyypia we've bough ten Smicers. Xabi, Mascherano, Suarez, Torres, most of the really world class players we've had in the last decade came at a high price. Of course we also paid ridiculous amounts of money for guys like Aquilani, Keane, Carrol and Downing but we also paid twice as much as what they were worth. With the likes of Suarez we paid exactly what they were worth at the time we signed them.
ReplyDeleteYup
ReplyDeleteBarca didn't hoof when they had Ibra up front :-)
ReplyDeleteYou really didn't know who Suarez was before he came to Liverpool?? Wow!
ReplyDeleteWhat does actually a marquee signing actually mean to you then, if a guy banging in a goal a game for domestic champions and leading his country at a world cup doesn't qualify??
If other clubs are buying the players we need please tell me who they are so far I've seen 1 Henrik to BVB and he didn't want to come to us simple as.
ReplyDeleteOthers were in for every other one of our players we got.
We don't want Smicers really .... they never pop up and score in the biggest game in our recent history.
The prices may be low but im seeing a pattern with our signings all have excellent touch and like going for goal. thats what we needed Goals from EVERYWHERE. Loads ended up on 1 goal during pre season.
The thing I don't understand is during all the badmouthing all the players being moaned about have been playing games and producing really good football lol while all our rivals have played very inconsistent football.
All the seasons with all the big names were winning this year were winning it this year and never did, id say the way the team are playing, simple pass move pass move and bang training ground link up of 4 players back of the net. Were playing like a team and a pretty damn good one at that.
(PS when did Joe Allen start skinning people so easily lol)
Its good, as long as defense is solid were going to shock a few this season
Nope Id seen the WC and read message board after message board and the guy hardly got a mention compared to the Marquee names, no one can say he was a household footballing name like other players that have done the same at world cups. He's very much like Costa atm a semi known striker who has the potential to become a big name in football, The time at LFC has made Suarez one of the biggest names in football now, it wasn't that way before and you know it
ReplyDeleteWe played Valerenga and a Thai XI ffs, not Real Madrid and Juventus. What counts is Stoke next weekend so let's see how these Wallmart superstars do then. Examples of players ending up at other clubs when we could have done with them? Wanyama & Lovren to Southampton. Soldado, Capoué (about to sign), Chadli and Paulinho to Spurs. And to make things worse we let Shelvey, Suso, Reina and Spearing (at least you can be sure he gets stuck in at DM unlike Lucas or Allen) go. Two of the most talented attacking midfielders in the game, our number one for yonks and a homegrown kid who may not be the most sensational and most gifted individual but has the passion and distribution needed to be a quality backup for DM.
ReplyDeleteBut everyone played the same shitty teams mate, look up their results, everyone from defense forward can score goals non of this run to the area and oooh pass i don't want to shoot pass oooh pass crap, were going to be taking shots from everywhere. When did us LFC fans become so Pessimistic ? Starting to feel like I'm supporting Chelsea or Man City
ReplyDeleteI know that I was on the message boards for well over a year before we signed Suarez stating that I believed him to be the best option for us out there, above and beyond the likes of Aguero, Benzema or anybody else that was being fancifully mooted at the time.
ReplyDeleteSuarez was consistently banging in goals at a world-class clip for Ajax. Anybody paying a passing attention to European football would have been well aware of his name and record, if not his talent. You'd have to have been pretty dedicated to be aware of Costa on the other hand, who's largely been in Falcao's shadow and barely been recognized by his country.
Btw, would Mkhitaryan have qualified as a 'marquee signing' in your opinion then anyway?
Its for Ajax though how often do 30 odd goal players come over from the Eredivisie and instantly halve there goal tally. I dunno really as i haven't followed football half as much last year, only really catching Liverpool matches and the CL final, i some how managed to miss every match.
ReplyDeleteWell that's a judgment call I guess - I, and many others, was well aware of Suarez's talents before he arrived at LFC. And he was being linked with bigger moves before joining us, but then his antics meant that he wasn't playing at Ajax and his reputation took a hit.
ReplyDeleteI'm just asking though, what does actually constitute a marquee signing though? Because I'm pretty sure that the majority of fans that were clamouring for Mkhitaryan's signing a few weeks ago would've barely been aware of his existence even a few months ago. Especially not compared to the existing stature of Suarez on his arrival...
What actually constitutes a marquee signing though, if playing in a 'lesser league' doesn't count??
ReplyDeleteWould Mkhitaryan have counted? Because I'm pretty sure the majority of fans clamouring for his signing a few weeks ago would've been totally unaware of his existence just a few months ago!
No thats my point though why do we need so called Marquee, I think the players we've got look good I wanted Erikson not HM anyway ( still think we might get him )
ReplyDeleteI can't speak for all LFC fans but I can tell you that my expectations for next season dropped when we decided to build on a decent half season last year with Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Mignolet and when losing on our one "top target" we didn't have a plan B.
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean Reina. After the service he has given Livrrpool he is perfectly entitled to want a return to Spain. The unceremonious dumping was not the Liverpool way.
ReplyDeleteI would've thought that Erikssen counted as a 'marquee signing' though? Oh well, makes no difference what tag is assigned to em, we just need more quality asap!
ReplyDelete
