BR confirms: LFC tracking 'absolutely outstanding' starlet during Oz tour. Deal...?

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that his scouting team is watching a potential transfer target during the club's tour of Australia.

Speaking to The Australian after Wednesday's 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory, Rodgers explained:

"We are always looking to bring in great young talent and our head of recruitment may have found one.

"I'm not sure where he drove to, but he watched a game outside of Melbourne.

"The pitch was not in the best condition, but he spotted a kid who was absolutely outstanding and he is just 15."

Rodgers refused to divulge any information about the identity of the mystery player, and according to The Australian, further enquiries with the club also fell on deaf ears:

"Liverpool officials were adamant last night they would not reveal any information about the youngster because they wanted to protect him at this stage and not alert other clubs to his talent"

It's good to see that the club is still working on some kind of transfer business during the pre-season tour (!), but whether anything comes of this remains to be see.

  1. Brendan should get his priorities right ,resolve the suarez issue quickly and bring in 2 world class players a striker and attacking midf.so we can see thid season off in style ...or these "starlets" wouldnt have a future to look up to...the team looks too light IMO.

  2. They will sign the kid and wont create a buzz about it like they did with Sergi Canos and Pedro Chirivella....both of whom played U18 match for Liverpool last week.

  3. could be rodgers just spouting again ,he should look at some of yesterdays opposition they made some of his signings look like they were worth 2 bob, saying that not to be unfair to brendon most of them looked poor

  4. I'm starting to feel like we could get a bit screwed by the whole Suarez saga.

I'm glad we are scouting potential players, but we need to think about a replacement for Suarez, someone who can get 20 goals a season, but I fear that a lot of the "big" names, who are being touted as moving this summer, have already made there moves.

    Who is left?

  5. That's the third time I've had perfectly polite, reasonable posts disappear just because they put a certain editor on the spot
    I'm off till that changes.
No doubt there'll be a reply to this one saying how unreasonable it was not to accept poor explanations for inconsistencies. Maybe this'll never go live
    Whatever

  6. Yes i would agree i hate Melbourne Victory but hats off to them they werent able to field a full strength side but they did them proud.
Liked the look of Connor Paine from Melbourne as a i have no idea who this kid they scouted was.
I am so wrapped to have gotten to the game last night and i hope and pray they will come back next season.

  7. You still believe anything that comes out of the club?

  8. You're not 'putting me on the spot', you're twisting my views, and I can't be bothered to keep justifying/repeating myself.

  9. Might as well do a bit of scouting while they are there, no harm in that. I just listened to YNWA from the match yesterday and all I can say is WOW. Well done to everyone inside that stadium. What an incredible rendition. Goose bumps all over watching that. Bet there were a few tears in the stadium during that one.

  10. Suarez out , 15 year old 'outstanding' talent in.
    I am excited! Yay!

  11. they will come back if you chuck enough money at fsg,i do not know if they played well or we stank the place out, but i am glad you got to see them, maybe if they do come back they mite even play football ,instead of the center backs auditioning for the part of the new chuckle brothers

  12. the 1 year old is not going to be suarezs replacement, more like aggers

  13. A bit of both they played really well Liverpool were very ordinary in and around the box especially, it was only a practice match though i suppose.

  14. If we sign an Australian on the strength of this piece of imaginary PR scouting, I'll show my bollocks to Crocodile Dundee. This never happened. The only surprise here is that he didn't use the same spiel in Indonesia.

  20. It is definitely a lie. When questioned he could not say where it was but then he threw in a "little detail" about the condition of the pitch to make it seem plausible . The other clue to the fact that BR was lying was that his lips were moving......

  21. if we signed every player who looks outstanding against us ,we would have more players than fans

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wow...he can join the other outstanding Ozzies that came to our academy and are now playing league one football. Rodgers should stop talking rubbish and focus on getting some actual reinforcements in. He talks about strengthening the squad but so far we've lost Shelvey, Reina, Suso and Suarez and he's brought Aspas, Alberto and Mignolet in. It's like selling the entire Real Madrid squad and replacing them with the one from Harchester United. Next thing you know we'll be linked to Didier Baptiste and Santiago Munez again...but hang on people, Bren will get us some top top signings. Well maybe he won't but he'll sure as hell tell us how he regrets that just like he did last summer.

  25. We cannot replace Suarez this window, simple as that.
Selling to Arsenal is Suicidal, selling to Madrid means they won't buy Bale. Best case scenario is selling to Bayern and getting Shaqiri or Gustavo + cash in exchange, doubt it will happen though.
We should simply refuse to sell and let him rot in the reserves rather than selling to Arsenal because I am sure if he stays he'll be itching to play.

  26. It's how we got Pegguy Arphexad and you can't say we regrett....never mind...

  32. I believe we were in for him as DeBoer said that they had contact from us and it was up to him to decide but who knows. Maybe there was no actual concrete offer. If he was as talented as some believe, surely there would be a lot more interest in him from other clubs but it appears as if Ajax haven't received any decent offers for him.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Eric it doesnt matter where your from as to whether u can play there has been a few very good Australian players there has been plenty of flops from everywhere.
One thing about us Aussies son we tough it out good enough or not.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ok enough is enough. We need to stop fluffing around with our transfers. Signing and scouting young talent is essential yes. But i really dont see how we can be coming out spinning this as a positive when the suarez saga is hanging over the club.
I cannot believe that we ever thought we could hold onto him. Instead of being pro-active and lining up his replacement early, when there were quality names available, we are now going to be in a re-active situation, with little to no options available. The chances were always slim to convince top strikers to join a non CL club, but it seems to me we didn't even try. Now we are in the situation of having to replace a world class striker with 50m in the coffers. Every chairman in the world has just bumped up the asking price for any average striker they have by 10mil. Liverpool are desperate and will pay anything for anybody, will be the clarion call of evry boardroom. I'm all for the strategy of holding out for the right price, but if thats the way we were going why was there not more effort put into identifying his replacemnt earlier.
This is a fiasco that in my opinion could cost rodgers his job by christmas, and rightly so. Not because we lost suarez, but because we failed to act when the writing was on the wall. I have no desire to see suarez in a liverpool shirt next season if a proper replacemnt can be found. But both look extremely unlikely.
Unless something extrordinary is pulled out of the bag this will go down as a fiasco of a transfer saga.
Sorry to go so off topic on the article but this is the only situation that should be concerning rodgers, not a 15 year old australian

Still a month 6 days to go. Calm down, we've brought in 4 players another 2/3 to go. :)

  38. I don't think he has an argument against Craig Johnston, but still, it shouldn't matter where a player is from.

But players who will still make a impact.... If the players are cissoko from Valencia, papadopoulous, and Soldado or Muriel then il be happy :)

  41. I hear when Wenger went for a swim he was found hanging of the bottom of a buoy :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree Pete, it doesn't matter where a player is from at all. I wasn't insinuating that all Aussies are like Harry Kewel but was just giving an instance to disprove a statement that all Aussies tough it out.
You can't categorically state that all people of one nation are one thing whether it be good or bad.

  43. That just isn't cricket ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. lets hope the child inside Suarez stops him from joining Arsenal!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I totally disagree Kewell did tough it out he had a lot of injuries i dont think u understand how bad it was.
Our athletes do tough it out thats why we are such a great sporting nation.

    ReplyDelete
  47. A rough pitch in australia? well that narrows it down to only 98% of the pitches left...

    ReplyDelete
  48. It looks like we have missed out on another striker, Kevin Gameiro, the problem is all top players are being bought, all top teams are getting their strikers in so they won't be looking for a bidding war over Suarez and we will sell low and left with buying a Carroll type player again

    ReplyDelete
  49. There isn't really much point in anyone spending 24/7 constantly worrying about one player. It's frustrating for us as fans but the club is far from desperate. Sure, if you read every article in the paper and think every Suarez rumour is true, it feels fairly uncomfortable, but Rodger's is not doing that and I don't think he should be. We'll have our targets to get if Suarez leaves, even a couple of weeks at this stage won't make a huge difference. If we keep Suarez he's still got 6 games suspension to serve, that's a huge disruption. Any replacement would be available immediately, so already we'd be ahead if we're forced to sell. And while I sense your pessimism and I can agree to an extent, the truth is still that until a team fronts up 50 million cash, Suarez is going no where. He'll stay with his contract and do what he's told. If he's happy to play for Arsenal then obviously the whole press story was bogus, so if we force him to stay then he'll be just fine.

Honestly, I don't see what people are so worried about. There are only two outcomes: 1. He stays or 2. He goes and we get 50 million quid to spend. That's a win-win situation, even if it drags on right to the start of the season. The window is open till September and we'll have a long list of players who will cost a fraction of what Suarez will cost. In the meantime all our existing targets are still viable. What happens to Suarez is almost irrelevant. I'm changing my feeling now and thinking that we're probably better off making the deal and taking the money, but he's still a world class striker that we should be happy to have on the team.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I 100% agree with you mate, although we can't really blame BR or anyone for this because negotiating a possible 50mil transfer does take time and as a result all the #1 replacements are gone. Although I haven't seen him in action personally Leandro Damiao sounds like an interesting prospect as does Pablo Osvaldo at Roma who has had two back-to-bak 20 goal seasons. There's a notion out there that we really don't need a striker with Daniel leading the line and should re-inforce with a big time goal-scoring/assisting attacking mid. One thing's for sure tho, the longer it takes to sell him the more complicated replacing him becomes :/

    ReplyDelete
  51. The thing about Carroll is that I'm pretty sure Kenny and Comolli thought we were getting a good deal. OK, it was a ton of money, but I'll bet they had visions of him banging in 15-20 goals in the league and causing nightmares for defenders. They were wrong, but I don't think it was because they made a knee-jerk reaction. I think they honestly thought he was worth the transfer fee at the time. The problem wasn't that we went late in the window, it's that when Kenny was asked who he wanted to replace Torres he said "Andy Carroll". Rodgers seems to have a much better eye for players and he'll have a long list of quality strikers.

And remember this ... Torres was considered not yet proven at the top level before he came to Liverpool. He was good, but his time under Rafa made him truly world class. Plenty of people were not 100% on Torres considering how much he cost us, I think we just forgot what was said at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  52. We can refuse to sell and make him play. He's not the kind of guy to not give 100%. If the move doesn't happen he'll get over it, after all he's got 6 weeks on the sidelines to think about it no matter what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Exactly. And he doesn't know but he is gonna miss LFC!! ;)
So it might be a good decision for him too!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I just think the longer we take about it, the harder its going to get. Look what happened when Torres left. I'm not saying that will happen again, as i'm sure they have leant, but if a club knows we have sold Suarez for £40million + then they are going to want more for their players.
I'm a big fan of Damiao, I've seen him a fair amount. But I think he is kind of similar to Sturridge, maybe a bit stronger. But I would like to see him at Liverpool.

We should have gone for Gomez. At least made a bid, just to see what happened.

I agree that we are beyter off taking the money and getting rid. But i really dont know who we are going to spend the money on. If we had received this early in the window i could have listed six players i would like to see replace hin. Now most of these have moved on or extended their contracts. I suppose thats where the bulk oof my pessimism is coming from, the feeling that there really is no plan in place if, or in my opinion, when he leaves.i see us in the same situation as last uear. Going into christmas short up front.
This is probably the first negative post you will have seen from me, as i have supported the direction the club has been taking. But the sale of our best talent to our biggest rivals for fourth spot, seemingly without a realistic back up plan, to me is directionless, and thats what worries me most.

    ReplyDelete
  56. thats what i said above your point being??

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yeah, I get ya. It worries me too from time to time, but then I look back how seamlessly things worked out in January and how since then we've grown our scouting team even bigger. I think there absolutely IS a plan place, it's just painful as fans to not know what that plan is. The only thing these guys do is make lists of players that we might want to sign, it's their full time job. If Suarez goes we might not even have heard of the potential replacements, but there will be someone. It's just not fathomable to me that a club like Liverpool, run by guys who have proven themselves as successful sports owners, haven't learned from their mistakes and made sure their arses are covered. Folks like Jason don't share that view and are convinced it's all going to be a big mess of failure, but if we can sit here as fans and think of all the things that should be happening, that should be in place, there is no way the club isn't doing the same.

Still I agree very strongly on one thing: selling Suarez to Arsenal is a bad move. It takes them from top 4 to being title contenders again and that's bad for us. They're one of the teams we want to knock out of the top 4 to get into Europe. I just don't think we'll do it. I think all the stories about him demanding to talk to Arsenal, about being about to submit a transfer request ... I think it's all paper talk nonsense. Suarez won't be happy at first if he has to stay and play for us, but he'll get over it quickly enough, and I really can't agree that he sees Arsenal as some huge step up for him. Real is the club he claimed it's hard to say no to, not Arsenal. Let's get real for a minute and remember that. Arsenal is NOT Suarez's dream move.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh that word. Outstanding.

    ReplyDelete
  59. whoever he is, is the least of my concern. getting rid of suarez should be top priority. the odious, goofy tw*t, needs to be shipped asap. take the 40m for him AND the £1 for downing, then get back to recruiting!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. You know there are a few junior clubs by the beach in Montevideo with pitches that make a local Victorian AFL oval look like a bowling green. I reckon those rough pitches make good footballers.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Toughen up the ankles :P lol

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'll be very very happy if BR can learn a trick or two from Arsene Wenger in terms of finding players cheap and good. Nothing wrong with that. We are not in the Champions League and with crude oil as backing.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I understand fans concern but we have to hold our nerve. We can't just roll over on Suarez just to complete a deal. Equally most people are just making assumptions that we don't have options that we are pursuing. The club said they would not comment until there was news so we just have to hope that's the case.
I get the feeling that a lot of transfer activity is just waiting for 1 or 2 major deals to happen (be it Suarez or Rooney, etc.).

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm sure BR wants this resolved quickly but it kinda depends on the buying club, Arsenal or whoever, coming up with an acceptable bid and that's out of his control.

    ReplyDelete
  65. You didn't say that at all...

    ReplyDelete
  66. During his early days Kewell was one of my favourite players and he developed into one of the best attackers in the League before his constant injuries.

A lot of athletes "do it tough" not just Australian ones. Australia has a fantastic sporting culture, but in terms of football we are quite far behind. Stop being so biased towards your own nation.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Haha, when I used to play there was a damn cricket pitch in the centre circle of our home ground! It was never easy on the knees.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I didn't mean that there are no good players in Australia. I meant that it's pointless to start harping on about some kid when you know all LFC fans care about right now is what happens with Suarez and what signings we'll be making to actually improve the squad. So far, the quality going out has been much higher than what came in.

    ReplyDelete
  69. But they won't be though, will they.

    ReplyDelete
  74. My heart is distraught because you voted my comments down. I did read all the comments. "Our athletes do tough it out that's why we are such a great sporting nation" has no factual basis whatsoever.

You're the one talking rubbish by claiming Australia has dominated Britain, and if BB is British that's why he'd be upset. We must of dominated them because our athletes do it tough, right? Get real, stop making such subjective statements.

    ReplyDelete

  77. I really liked Bony and thought he would have been a revelation at anfield; the BPL needs to look out for that partnership with Michu cause there will be a lot of upsets next season *watch this space (always wanted to say that). There's still Lukaku though and will Torres and Shurrle there, I think a cheaky bid couldnt hurt.
But to your point I'm hoping, at the very least, we're working in the background trying to materialize a deal for a striker just in case Suarez does go in the end; just to make sure that we are prepared. At the very worst Damiao will provide direct competition for Sturridge which, as seen when playing second fiddle to suarez, really brought out the best in him.
