Transfer Boost: Agent hints at LFC interest in 'world class' €20m star. Hopeful...?

Last week, Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claimed that the Bundesliga giants have 'no plans' to sell exciting wing-star Xherdan Shaqiri, but the player's Agent today hinted that a move to Liverpool could still be on the cards.

Multiple sources in Germany and the UK (including the Liverpool Echo) reported last week that Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a £20m move for Shaqiri, and in response to the speculation, Rumenigge told reporters:

"Nobody has called about Shaqiri. Right now there are no plans (to sell). The coach is completely satisfied with him."

When quizzed about Liverpool's interest in Shaqiri's today, Franco Moretti - the Swiss star's Agent - told TMW:

"Liverpool? The boy is not moving to Monaco, that's for sure."

This can be read in several ways, but in my view, it can be construed as implicit confirmation that LFC are interested in Shaqiri. After all, Moretti specifically and emphatically writes off Monaco's chances, but there's no denial of the Reds' interest and/or chances of signing the attacker.

Shaqiri - recently hailed as 'world class' by Munich's Sporting Director Mattias Sammer - made only 17 starts for Bayern last season, and the signings of Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara will make it even tougher for the Swiss star to establish himself in the first team.

Discussing Alcantara's transfer on ESPN last night, Reds legend Steve Nicol observed:

"If you pay €25m for a player [Alcantara], it means you're going to play him, and I'm sure there will be some Bayern players looking over their shoulders"

Shaqiri must surely be one of those players who'll be 'looking over his shoulder'. He has already stated that he wants regular first-team football next season, but how is that going to happen when the competition at Bayern is so formidable?

Rumenigge says Bayern have no plans to sell, but a loan deal could be a possibility. Going out on loan would make perfect sense for Shaqiri, especially in a World Cup year.

Make it happen, Brendan!

  2. Off Topic first: Anyone see the Tweets that J.Henry made? if his account wasn`t hacked and he made them the man is a legend, purely for comedy gold. For those who haven`t seen them it was along the lines of this

"Anyone know what there smoking over at the emirites!"

Followed by a retweet/tagged pic of wenger with a large J and it saying "thanks for the boss pic of wenger".

In a world where owners and players all have to be PC and say the right thing, I so hope its true he said the above, made me laugh loads.

On Topic: Looks a really good player and would def be a good addition to the team. I dunno if we will bid of not but think he is needed more than Erisken is. He does need to work on scoring a few more goals, but at 21 not many score enough. I find that usually comes as they hit around 23.

  3. instead let ibe develop into the team ?

    ReplyDelete
  4. yeah would rather let ibe develop there and develop our own shaquiri for free ...... advantage of having these youngsters 2 years from now we need buy any attackers lol

  5. SUAREZ ALERT!!! JK..Just a thought, why don't you set up a Suarez thread so that all things 'toothy' can be discussed there? Just a thought, as I'm seeing some people bringing his name up in every thread you create and it's not gonna stop till a) he goes or b) he stays and the Scottish bloke on SSN calls time, I'd also ban any mention of him outside that thread, again, just a thought. You'll probably be able to isolate any squabbling which he obviously always manages to start on this site.

Oh, and to completely contradict the purpose of this message..I've just heard that Real Madrid WILL be making a bid of around £45m as they have sold Higuain.

Oh....I don't think we'll be buying Shaq by the way. He's a great player, just can't see it.

  6. He will be the marquee signing of the season and would add so much more quality to the 1st team but unfortunately it's in Bayern's hand if they choose to sell him - Hopefully it happens.

  7. Prefer ibe as a sub or cup games. I`m not a fan of playing them to much when really young. 20 is fine, but under that and I think if your not careful you will ruin them by the time they hit 23. I think its different abroad as they seem to play less games and a lot of leagues are less physical so the younger players can get the game time without if affecting them as much as in the prem.

As I think ibe would be better used for just a few games this season, I would prefer to have someone better starting over him. I want 4th min and I don`t think that will happen putting all our faith into players who have never played first team football or very little.

Arsenal have a lot better youngsters than us, or did and they still really struggle to get fourth and haven`t won anything for years and years.

    Balance for me buddy.

All for playing the young ones as subs or cup games till there ready. They need there chances to grow after all. Just not up for letting the team fall further down the league while we let them bed in, for them to then leave us once they get good, which will happen.

  10. A loan with an option to buy wouldn't be a bad deal at all,but whatever chance we have getting him on loan I highly doubt Bayern would give the option to buy.Now that Higuain is sold it'll be interesting to see if Madrid and Arsenal will get wrapped up in a bidding war, either way it almost guarantees we'll get closer to the £55m valuation.I just wonder who we'll replace him with...Soldado? Maybe but would they spend £26m on a 28 year old who'll need to adapt to the PL?

    ReplyDelete
  11. and less pressure on him too then.

  12. To be fair to arsenal fans some reply's were pretty good to the "Anyone know what there smoking over at the emirates!"

    1/ Carroll lights
2/what ever they are smoking doesn't compare to the A grade s**t that you were smoking when you agreed £35mill for Carroll.

    And im a lfc fan.

  14. I think signing this lad is a no brainier if we can get him. If we get 50m for the ungrateful, disgrace of a man we would still have quite a bit of change left to sign a top striker too. Shaqiri and dzeko (good finisher and not small!) for Suarez looks like smart business. Then a centre back out of the original budget and we look good to me.

Any other combinations for the Suarez money?

  15. Hope its resolved asap and hopefully he goes abroad. And even more importantly, I hope Liverpool never lose their morals over a player again like they have with Suarez, over the last 2 or so years. You can't blame Suarez for wanting champions league. I hope he's gone within 2 weeks. Liverpool need to get back to being bigger than the individual.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes you can blame Suarez for wanting CL. He has been treated like crap by everyone in England since the Evra lies, including Arsenal supporters, and we (most of us anyway) stood by him every single time. His team mates stood by him every single time. To then want to leave for not only another English team, after saying that the only reason he'd leave would be to leave England because of his family, but to one that only finished fourth last year and has no hope of ever winning the title is downright disgusting. If he leaves for Arsenal I honest to God hope that he is spat at and abused every time he dares to come near Anfield again. It makes him worse than Torres and Owen put together imo. If the reports are true that he is going to sit down with Arsenal I hope the mofo rots in hell. Whether we sell him or not. I stand by my support for him the last two years because that's what a real LFC supporter does, he supports and expects the best from LFC players but he can go and pesh off now.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Buying him at this point of time will be a little difficult for LFC and most probably Bayern won't sell him as of now because they do know his potential and what kind of a player he is. Loaning him with an option to purchase him at the end of the season is the best possibility because the money generated after Reina getting loaned can be used for Shaqiri's loan as well as purchase at the end with Reina's sale.

    ReplyDelete
  18. IMO IF WE ARE GOING DOWN THE ROAD OF SIGNING POTENTIAL this is the kind of potential we should be signing

    ReplyDelete
  19. i cant see it m8..i hope im wrong but this type of player generally wants to go to a club which is going places not a club that has been them.....rogers and fsg are in denial they think top talent wants to go to a club thats sells its best players and replaces with potential it just doesnt work like that

    hmmm borini????

    ReplyDelete
  22. We sell Suarez to the gooners first m8 then we get him

    ReplyDelete
  23. we should be looking at the two of them plus toby and benteke

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's really hard to have patience in this type of environment. Suarez more and likely to leave, we'll probably end up accepting a 45m pound offer "to keep the player happy"... it looks like we are missing out on a lot of good transfer activity and we look likely to sign no one.

I just hope we don't end up being told that we should be happy with a new goal keeper (which i think we didn't need) a 32 year old CB and 2 young, raw Spanish talents that have never played in the premier league.

    Right now, 4th place...no chance.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Get Shaqiri and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg from FC Bayern M. - they are for the future, have still both had 1st team appearances for FC.BM - and have their place threatned by Thiago Al.

    ReplyDelete
  26. rodgers and fsg are in denial ? so are loads of fans

    ReplyDelete
  27. Love to see Suarez on his way out for the right price. Just get rid of him. I'm fed up with the saga of this selfish, troublesome, ungrateful player.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Shaqiri for 20, Yilmaz for 15 and Capoue for 8 and rest go for Papadopolous and Hector Moreno.

    ReplyDelete
  29. imust say alberto has done nothing impressive yet and 0i can say he is just a marginal improvement on downing but time is on his side so hopefully he improves

    ReplyDelete
  30. i believe borini will carry his love affair with the injury table come this season too :P

  31. ill tell you who wont benifit ....henderson :(

  32. ur buying too much into the media .....if suarez was everything u said he wouldnt have even attended pre season ....and modric describes the qualities you mentioned

    ReplyDelete
  33. Even stranger was that my suggestion wasn't even acknowledged. I mentioned him because it was inevitable that he would come up...I just got in there first.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sorry, Force - there are so many comments that sometimes I miss some. It's a good suggestion, but I don't envisage posting any more Suarez articles. I've said everything I want/need to say about his situation. Rather ironically, a lot of people seem to be coming round to my way of thinking; the same people who were on my case for being critical of him over the last two years.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Watched Ibe in Melbourne look very very good with sterling out wide . Ibe needs time and few more year in development. Borini was shit shaqiri would be great partner for Suarez but when suarez has 95000 chant his name and he looks like he don't give a Fu&%$k hes gone . we wont do no better in English premier league then last year we need great signings now cause we are again dreaming .

    ReplyDelete
  36. agreed...... and i dont think if he stays also he will be the same suarez i say sell him for 40 mill and take podolski as well

    ReplyDelete
  37. Imagine this (probably wont happen, but im dreaming okay)... Shaqiri+about 20-25 mil for Suarez (or sell suarez out right and buy shaqiri....either way 20-25 mil extra) use that 20-25 mil to get alderweireld and eriksen together (15-16 for eriksen, 8-10 for alderwiereld). that leaves us break even. use actual transfer kitty (wihch im thinking is around 25-28 since we were after mkhitaryan) + whatever sales (downing 7 mil, spearo 2 mil, pacheco 1mil or less?) and get a dm and a solid rotation striker, or even a starter if possible. Cissokho on loan so no immediate fee. If eriksen and alderweierld needs more money, im sure owners could spare 2-3 mill to make kitty 30.

  38. it seems he's hell bent on going to Arsenal ,of course i maybe reading too many of these transfer news lately :)

  39. Suarez was contractually obliged to attend pre season. He wasn't doing LFC any favours.
