'We expect movement' - LFC plan double-deal for coveted €21m Belgian duo

Transfer season is in full swing at the moment, and Liverpool are being linked with players left, right and centre. Belgium-based contributor EK takes a look at two potential LFC transfers being reported in the Belgian press.

Earlier this week Belgian newspaper "Het Belang van Limburg" (HbvL) reported Liverpool's interest in FC Twente star Nacer Chadli and this morning, HBVL confirms that a move for Sunderland's Simon Mignolet is getting 'very close'.

Chadli moved to FC Twente when Belgian goalkeeping legend, Michel Preud'homme took charge of the, then, Dutch champions and went on to average one goal in three matches from the left wing.

The 23-year old has made it clear that he wants to move to further his career this summer but only to a club where he can get enough games to make the squad for next year's world cup in Brazil. Belgium still need to qualify but are top of their group three points clear of Croatia and are already touted as next year's dangerous outsiders for the title.

So far Juventus, Dortmund and Ajax had expressed an interest and they are now joined by Liverpool, Spurs, Shakhtar Donetsk and Galatasaray. Liverpool and Spurs seem to be in pole position though after €9m-rated Chadli's agent revealed that the player favours a move to England. He told De Telegraaf:

"There are several clubs from the biggest leagues interested in signing him [Chadli] and I don't think Ajax can compete financially. Nacer is attracted by English football. We expect some movement from that corner. First there is the important international game with Serbia (which Belgium won 2-1) but things can go very fast from then on. I expect a decision about his future as early as this month."

The rumours about Mignolet have been around ever since Victor Valdes claimed he wouldn't be at Barcelona next season. Reina has now come out and stated his desire to stay at Liverpool but at 31 years of age, Liverpool need a contingency plan even if keepers do tend to have longer careers than other players.

Belgium has a long history of producing great goalkeepers with the legendary Jean-Marie Pfaff and the aforementioned Preud'homme both crowned the world's best goalkeeper in 1987 and 1994 respectively. The country now sees a host of young keepers following their footsteps with Thibaut Courtois the standout favourite to take the same crown in the near future.

According to HbvL, Brendan Rodgers has his sights set on 24-year old Mignolet, and the Irishman has apparently made him a top priority. They claim the reds saw an 8 million euro offer turned down earlier this week with Sunderland holding out for €12 million. Liverpool are expected to offer as much as @9.5 million to get their man and it is expected that this will be enough for Sunderland to agree.

With Arsenal, Manchester United and Napoli all said to be tracking the player as well, Liverpool will want to get the deal done quickly.

  1. I've seen other reports suggesting LFC will sign Mignolet for £10m. Given we don't have a huge budget then it suggests that Reina is on his way - but given Valdes says he's staying at Barca does it mean he's being forced out? And if so will Barca sign him if Valdes stays? Personally I'd prefer to have both Reina and Mignolet so we have real competition.
If Reina does go I think we will be no better off in terms of not having a strong alternative to put pressure on Mignolet. Jones is OK as a stop gap but isn't really going to threaten either Reina or Mignolet. .
I know nothing about Chadli - anyone else seen him?

  2. Mignolet has been outstanding as I posted earlier in a different thread but Chadli is about who I know nothing about. I think we have enough players to play down the left wing and we should be focused on the right wing, that is where we don't have a quality player and competition too.

  3. The Sunderland Echo are reporting he is joining Liverpool for £10m, this is reported today on-line..............check it out!!!

  4. There's no smoke without fire. Monaco would definitely sign a top class keeper with their money and ambition and barca need a long term replacement, so if I was liverpool of course the wise thing to do would be to get a deal done quickly. If reina stays good for us if not I heard we will probably sign one more goalie. I get a feeling Rodgers is going to rely on his current group of defenders since there isn't much activity going on in that area, so skrtel is not leaving?

  5. i agree pepe being forced out torres always says there is more to his move to chelsea than meets the eye, whos to say they have not forced suarezs hand,it seems that we are spending a lot with a 20to30million budget on average players (mignolet excempt)so i expect players to go and star players at that

Red raider didn't say pepe being forced out? Also how can pepe be forced out? Monaco sign valdes, barca will go after reina, we are just covering our back, mignolet is a good Keeper and a few teams want him, we've gone in first to get the deal done. Even if reina stays we will have two good GKs on our books.

  7. Hey Jaimie, have you written any article about the new LFC kit? Would love to see your take on that, as here in India, most of us feel that the away kit and the third kit are horrendous..

    ReplyDelete
  8. they say if we increase our bid for the third time 6.5million was our 1st bid fsg need to get real ,putting stupid bids in will alienate other clubs chairmen imo

    ReplyDelete
  9. liverpool4life56511:22 am, June 15, 2013

Ayre puts the bids in NOT FSG.

    ReplyDelete
  10. my opinion is it will cost the club money in lost shirt sales i will not buy them and the kids do not want them lol

    ReplyDelete
  11. the away kit is a joke, represents nothing and looks awful
but i personally quite like the 3rd kit, much better than last years 3rd kit :)

  12. Hi Ashkay - I tend not to write about kits/TV documentaries/off field stuff etc because, to me, it's trivial. I leave that kind of stuff to other LFC sites. I'm only interested in things directly linked to what happens on the pitch. Agree with you though - rhe new kits are horrible (!)

  13. Forced out? Lol. Reina has been courting Barca since the end of the season. What he is saying is, if Barca don't want him, he will stay at Liverpool. So Liverpool should look after their interests.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Its looking more likely we will sign Mignolet, if so does this mean Reina is def on his way out? What people think of that? Is Mignolet really a step up from Reina? I`m really split on this as I rate Reina as a top top keeper. I can`t see us spending 10mil on a reserve keeper, but at the same time Doni has left and so has our other keeper so we do need at least one more and then a youngster for third choice. Just seems odd spending 10mil on a second choice so surely Reina is off.

Could just be rumours as we are meant to be close to signing loads of people and I`m sure we wont be signing them all.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Im not really interested in Chadli but would be very happy if the reports of us getting mignolet soon are true, He's been a quality keeper in the premier league and has done a good job considering Sunderlands Defending.
Also read a few reports that the 15m deal for carrol is basically done (i say basically but you never know until its final lol) and it has 4m in add-ons taking the total to 19m over time.
Hopefully thats true as i want all the money we can get back for carroll

    ReplyDelete
  16. does anyone else think julio cesar could be a good option? most likely cheap as qpr just got relegated. vast experience and played quite well last year. although obviously we wont get as many years out of him. still brazil number one.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yea I have noticed about our spending. That said we have only spent 8mil so far. If we sign the other linked players tho I def see some going, but we do have a few who will give us a nice amount back, aka Carroll. Thats 15mil on the bag right there. Personally I expect Suarez to go at some point too once the confeds cup is done. Thats a whole lot more money in the kitty.

I`m not sure on Reina, he has mentioned a few times about Barca, so dunno if he is being forced out or choosing to go. Maybe he has asked in a polite way. Like if possible I would prefer to go?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think he would be a decent option if we lost Reina and missed out on getting Mignolet.
He is experienced and at time showed alot of class last season but i'd look at him as a Band-aid type of keeper to only help in the short term while we looked for a long term option.

    ReplyDelete
  19. IMO i think Mignolet would be a step up from Reina, Now im not knocking Pepe as he is a quality keeper but his form has gone up and down the last few season and although he says he's gonna stay at LFC theres always rumors and reports of him looking back to spain.
Mignolet's keeping this year was of a higher standard that Pepe's IMO, He may not have the kicking skills of Reina but that may actually work a bit better if BR's system as he does like to play it out to the CB's and let them start the plays.
I cant see us signing Mignolet if Reina is going to stay, Neither would be happy to sit on the bench and having signed an extension to B.Jones contract i dont think we'd need another back up.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 6.5 mil was a worthy bid imo. Lloris cost 7.2 million or so and he had CL experience. Of course Lyon wanted to sell and Lloris wanted to go, but Mignolet wants to go too. 10 million is too much for him.

    ReplyDelete
  21. liverpool4life5651:27 pm, June 15, 2013

Overall package for lloris is 12 million...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jamie, off topic, but any chance of topic about FFP. It does affect our on field play to some extent as it involves which clubs should be in CL and not. I thought it should be in play next season as that is about 3 years since they gave 3 years to be turning a profit per season aint it? Just strikes me as odd as surely some clubs like PSG, Monaco and Zenit aren`t within the rules? I know Sebb has changed his wordings on what it means from time to time, but it was all in print (the rules). Just be interesting to see out of the current CL placing clubs in Europe which by the FFP rules should be banned or punished? then a comparsion to where we are at. By my workings we are still turning a loss.

What does anyone else make of this? To me it looks like some clubs are cutting back to meet what was set out, while others are just ignoring it? surely it couldn`t be possible UEFA have yet again made a massive mess up of Football.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't think there is a polite way of asking to leave however he does it people will react badly

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nah I don't think so, 2nd and 3rd kits tend to be a bit experimental, while the home kit is always something traditional. These weird kits can be like a novelty outside of the UK...Like my mate had our keeper kit from a few years ago, and whilst I thought it was pretty cool, I thought who would actually buy that...So you'd be surprised.

Home kits are always the seller, any $ from 2nd and 3rd kits are just a bonus I reckon.

    ReplyDelete
  25. In that case fingers crossed we get him if you rate him better than Reina. I`m always for improving the team and inproving positions.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My bad. I thought 10 mil euros (7 mil quid) + add-ons. Even so, I do not believe Mignolet is worth 10 mil quid.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I disagree, I think there is. Some players in the past have said if the club can get a replacement in, or the right amount they would like to go. Others have said they will give one more season etc. (this is from stuff that has come out after they have retired or from there autos). So it is possible if a player loves a club that they would like to leave but not at all costs. As far as leaving goes I think that is polite. I`m not sure this is Reina mind as he has been pretty vocal at times to the press about Barca.

    ReplyDelete
  28. As some one who works with the committee am surprise you believe everything and anything negative about LFC and FSG. If any player wants to go they will go if they want to stay. Torres wanted to go and if he wanted to stay he would have not put in that transfer request. Suarez has not yet. I think it's just the humble pie you are chew that's leaving bad taste in ya mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Only signed 1 player and he's won Prem & got CL experience so hardly average.
If you're referring to Aspas I suggest waiting to see how he performs before passing judgment.

    ReplyDelete
  30. In Torres' case I thought the thing was that Torres asked the club to listen to offers and the club told him that he'd have to hand in a transfer request, if he wished to leave. According to Tina Mac on here, doing so he missed out on 5m or 10% of the transfer fee. Yeah, he surely hasn't got enough money yet. No wonder he comes out with nonsense like "there is more to it". He should come clean then and tell the world what's been happening, if it's not his own greed.

Suaréz on the other hand seems to be a lot less smart than Torres. He would have told the world by now, would the club try to force him out (which I find a silly idea, to be honest).

    ReplyDelete
  31. As long as Rodgers is in charge and FSG own us, Jason probably will see everything concerning the club as average and mediocre. Should we win the league under that leadership, he probably would come out and claim that it was an average, mediocre league win only :-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah, why not bid 35m?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Is it me or Suarez is becoming more and more desperate!!! This foo just said he is not going to say anything about transfers and wants to focus on the tournament now he wants LFC to listen to him. Or is it because Cavani now wants to go to Madrid so he realized his chances are getting slimmer by the day. Right now it seems to me Suarez is going to be at LFC next season. Bayern will not spend 50 Million on a single player!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Think a bigger problem is, that Liverpool kits are not available in department stores and sports shops over here since they are not manufactured by Adidas/Reebok anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mignolet is a good keeper. Whether he's as good or better than Reina at his best, I don't know. Think that Courtoise or what's his name might be the better of those two Belgians on the long run, but Chelsea probably won't let him go to another club in the Prem, and not for 10m.

    ReplyDelete
  36. UEFA and FIFA are corrupt organisations in my book. They will water down any ruling they've made to accommodate rich clubs into the desired competition.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yep, he might have little choice but to stay. Hope the club fines him his wages for every game he misses through silly suspensions. Furthermore, I hope the club lays out a code of conduct, telling players that they will be fined, should they feel the need to discuss their own desire to move elsewhere publicly. Suaréz would have lost quite some money this season, and last, too.

    ReplyDelete
  38. it was always going to be barca or us hes a barca fan if you were in the same situation would you not want to sign for lfc,and forefull your dreams

    ReplyDelete
  39. I`m afraid this is my view too. Its a shambles really. Personally I`m not in favour of FFP as I think its benifits thew top clubs a lot more and means the chances of smaller clubs ever getting taken over by rich owners has gone, kinda making the league dull. However if you are going to have a rule in place, it has to be kept, otherwise your giving a massive helping hand to clubs who aren`t keeping to the rules. From my understanding so far it would be fair to say some teams have only won there league last year due to FFP making there rivials cut back while they carried on spending. Biggest joke in football right now, and if it isn`t followed strictly to ALL clubs then everyone at the top of UEFA should be forced to leave ASAP or maybe all clubs leave UEFA and start a new one. It`s the biggest scandel in football right now imo.

    ReplyDelete
  40. agree pepe wants barca or us hes stated that many a time

    ReplyDelete
  41. and what humble pie would that be have we just signed some major players that only you know about

    ReplyDelete
  42. so as teddy sherringham should we sign him as well

    ReplyDelete
  43. Agreed. If I was the club I would teach Suarez a lesson and let him rot in the reserves for the year so he misses out on the World Cup. I know money wise that is a bad move, but it would send a message to everyone at the club that you respect the club you play for and aren`t bigger than it.

I was fully behind Suarez in terms of giving him my support as tbh I weren`t to fussed about the diving etc as it doesn`t really bother me, but now he seems to be selling himself in every interview almost every day, I just want him gone, or ideally put into the ressies as punishment until he issues a letter saying sorry for making the club look bad to the fans.

Reina aint been much better either.

    ReplyDelete
  44. can no one understand good footballers want success if we cannot give it to them r=they will move to someone who will ,do you think coutinho is going to be here in 5 years if he keeps playing like he has,if we do not improve,

    ReplyDelete
  45. am i saying that you make a resonable offer do fsg think they are brighter than everyone else,we have burnt our bridges with blackpool and iam sure we will do it with someone else

  46. my kids have always had all the shirts they do not want them this year thats £240 lost

    ReplyDelete
  49. cheikhabdou gaye4:03 pm, June 15, 2013

mignolet is by far better than reina it would be a good signing and we have to go for eriksen and aldeiwereld

    ReplyDelete
  50. I`m just winding you up bud. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. I still think we have to move quickly if we had identified our targets be it Mignolet or Chadli ,if those are the areas we are looking to strengthen.I guess we aren't looking to sign anymore Defenders or CDM .Well what do you know i just read Southhamptom have signed Lovren for 10M last year we lost out Ramirez to them as well if rumors were we're actually chasing Ramirez.

    ReplyDelete
  52. We need to be looking for someone we can get to challenge Mignolet.
We should look for a Friedel type. A solid pair of hands who can challenge Mignolet and who we can be sure wouldn't let us down. With Mignolet being so young, I'd prefer this to getting a younger 'keeper, because he'd just end up stagnating.

    ReplyDelete
  53. But am not running around like my head is on fire screaming that LFC is DOOMMED either!!! Just pipe down and pay attention the window has not even opened yet.

    ReplyDelete
  54. and iam going to do what you tell me lol

    ReplyDelete
  55. £240 saved for you, buy yourself something nice ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Forefull? Wow. Easily, the word of the millennium.

    ReplyDelete
  57. glen do one your such a bore lol why do you not post something about football lol

    ReplyDelete
  58. lol they have already spent it on something else

    ReplyDelete
  59. Generally speaking I like the idea of FFP, because it should prevent club from being turned into a plaything of some rich owner. But, as you say, the rule then would have to be complied to by all clubs. Clubs should grow by downing shrewd business. In an ideal world, a club like Crewe, who develop a lot of good youngsters, would be able to be more successful on the pitch, attendances would rise, more income and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Maybe, but unfortunately the way you portray yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  61. no m8 it was just a cheap shot and you know it

    ReplyDelete
  62. Our reserves would be pretty strong with Reina and Suarez in it.

Yes, I, too, have enough of Suaréz and his interviews. If he was a half-decent guy, he'd do all this in an entirely different way.

    ReplyDelete
  63. And who is to decide what kind of offer would be reasonable? Are transfer fees nowadays reasonable at all? No, we should try to start negotiations with a low offer. It's easier to put in a higher offer afterwards than to put in a high offer and than make a smaller one in due course.

I actually don't mind whether we burnt out bridges with Blackpool. We are not there to please them. They've ripped us off with Adam, so from my point of view they've burnt the bridges first. Then they started asking for silly money for Ince. They should get a grip.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I can fully understand that footballers want success. But wasn't your point that we force out our players. What has one thing to do with the other. Why are you changing the topic?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Until we changed our kit manufacturer, our kits were available all over the country. Warrior probably don't pay for the listing.

    ReplyDelete
  66. No maid, it's not. It's because of your constant cheap shots aimed at Rodgers and FSG, without any proof at all, and you know that.

    ReplyDelete
  67. lol i know and you know its a cheap post fot a few browney points

    ReplyDelete
  68. if we do not give our players hope of success then we are forcing them to move ,even gerrard toyed with the idea once or twice and hes red through and through

    ReplyDelete
  69. and when we put in a resonable bid for a player other clubs will say no because they know we always up our original offer catch 22

    ReplyDelete
  70. buy it from the club shop

    ReplyDelete
  71. I don't know Jason why don't you occasionally post about football, your comments are like reading a financial agony aunts letters.

    Dear Aunty,

FSG are treating me really really bad they keep hurting my feelings and they wont give us any money, yeah they are being linked with every player but everyone else's owners are so much nicer to them buying them 30 - 60 million pound players, wheres my 60 million pound player where are my diamonds and jewelry I want it I want it I want it now.

    Signed forever lonely and underapreciated

    Jason

    ReplyDelete
  72. Jason your a cheap shot, pretty much everything you write is a cheap shot at the site the club or the owners, everything is condemned in your eyes before its even happened, I imagine you site watching a match with 85mins gone LFC 4-0 up going ohhh but were still going to lose you watch

    ReplyDelete
  73. So we are not directly forcing our players out at all.

Gerrard first considered moving straight after our biggest success in the past 20-odd years.

I truly believe that we as a club try to be more successful. At the same time it has to be said that only one team can win the league, in every country. And there aren't any guarantees that a team will be successful.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Not at all Catch 22. If we bid as much as we think a player is worth and the selling club do not accept the offer, we simply look elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  75. This wasn't about me, Jason. I know where I can get it, if I wanted to buy it. It's an advertising thing, availability of a product. Football is very much a commercial business nowadays, and our "brand's" shirts are not available to the random shop-goer.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Wow, you must be well off to be able to afford so many shirts. I couldn't do that.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Do you think they just pull a figure out of their arse? Do you know how much will go into working out a players value to the club, for years people have said that's LFC hold out for big bucks, we did and got screwed on MOST transfers paying waaayyy over the odds now FSG are playing it smart and trying to get players for the same price everyone else would have to pay. They are being smart for the long term future of the club, and the biggest thing they need to ensure things stick to their plan, success and they will bring it, they wont have it any other way it would be bad business

    ReplyDelete
  78. do you think i give a f"ck about fsg or there buisness they could piss of tomorrow for me

    ReplyDelete
  79. one team can win it others can challenge for it then they is us

    ReplyDelete
  80. and lose the player if i knew someone always raised there starting bid evertime i would feel cheated if they did not with me ,hence i would sell to someone else even if it was for the same price

    ReplyDelete
  81. they are not old enough

    ReplyDelete
  82. not at all its just something i always budget for

    ReplyDelete
  83. they are in england

    ReplyDelete
  84. How do you meant that "then they is us"? I fail to get your point, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I know that it's not the way you put it. I'm not interested in "browney points" as I don't even know what they are. You are entitled to your opinion though, but it would be nice, if you'd not tell me what I think.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Always, eh. I don't think so. You know, the thing you seem to have a problem with right now is called "negotiation". In case we bid a fee YOU would consider reasonable right from the off, the selling club would likely ask for even more money. It's not like going into the supermarket where everything has a fixed price. By the way, you are responding to transfer RUMOURS and paper STORIES anyway. My guess would be that none of us knows how much, if any, truth is behind them anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yes, you are right. And the bad thing is that since we last won the league we've challenged twice. On one of those occasions I believe that the big ego of our manager lost the title, but nevertheless, you are, as I've said, correct.

We've had a few false dawns in the past 20 or so years, with H&G being the worst. I hope the current one builds us up continually so that one day within say the next five years we stand a real chance to go for the title again. Until then we probably have to continue living with out alleged star players leaving. But it's nothing new either, eh. Keegan, Rush, McManaman, Owen, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres and now maybe Suaréz.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I do see your point, and am changing my view on it, leaning towards seeing it as a good thing.

Question still remains, will UEFA actually enforce it?

    ReplyDelete
  89. which only makes it worse, buying them beverages at there age Jas... hahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  90. lol they will have plenty of time for that;-)

    ReplyDelete
  91. but in the past we showed ambition and tried to replace out top players now we look for potential

    ReplyDelete
  92. Will UEFA actually enforce it? I don't think so as I see Platini as no different to Blatter when it becomes to being a self-serving corrupt a-hole and their respective organisations as entirely intransparent. They will always do what serves them best. Just imagine the first seven teams in the Prem not breaking even. Would UEFA then allow illustrious names such as West Brom, Swansea, Norwich into the competition (CL). Or would they exclude Real and Barca from it? Big fat NO.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Like when we signed Ian Rush?

You surely remember that in the past we won the league and all the other stuff, too. We were the top dogs, with top income. We've missed the train commercially some 20-odd years ago. Therefore, we can't spend what some other clubs spend nowadays.

Still we spend enough to show me that we are quite ambitious and just may have more money to spend than the media try to make us believe.

    ReplyDelete
  94. people seem to forget we paid quite a lot of money for ian rush given his age at the time,

    ReplyDelete
  95. No, we don't sign them and we can't afford them, just like Coutinho. Oh, wait.... just don't let facts get in your way, Jason.

May I remind you that someone thought that Carroll and Henderson were players with big potential and splashed out 50+m on them? Because we couldn't afford them. Someone also thought that Suaréz has potential and splashed another 23 or so million out on him. No, we clearly can't afford them players with potential. Damn. We'll end up with average players like Downing (17m, or was he 20m?).

Sometimes I get the impression that you live in some kind of parallel universe where we have a team of Borinis (10 or 11m, and allegedly with some potential, too, which still has to be fulfilled).

    ReplyDelete
  96. but that's good for the club you would be an idiot to think otherwise. Shit owners = shit club, FSG have already proven they are willing to inject cash into a sports team and look what happened to them, Give it some time or please for the love of god go and support someone else, people reading your drivel everyday on here gives a worse name for the club than suarez any day of the week

    ReplyDelete
  97. we signed the english players to get our home grown quota of players coutinho cost 8million how much was hazzard ,and if you do not like my opinion do not read it

    ReplyDelete
  98. Ah, I see, home grown quota. Therefore, the money spent doesn't count?

Well, we surely don't have the money of Abramovic, but then our owners are not accused of taking money away from the people of Russia.

Sometimes discussing with you is like talking to my alleged better half. "if you do not like my opinion do not read it". Jesus, Jason. Your opinion is very solid and stable against facts.

  99. look m8 i do not want to bicker with you if you want an argument go talk to your better half,in my experience they are more than willing to contribute to an argument

  100. Thanks for teaching me a new word, Jason. Bicker.

No, I don't want to bicker. Strange that you would think that.

What I find funny is that you seem to feel offended as soon as someone doesn't agree with you or may even point at flaws in your argumentation.

The surprising part about this is, that you appear to want discussion without disagreement and without other voicing their opinion, too.

  101. i do not mind discussion or disagreement ,but when its the same people 20 times a day ,and obviously we totally disagree ,i just do not see the point in constantly going over the same things

  102. You are using one of my favourite means of literary here: the exaggeration.

I haven't been on here for long enough to tell you the same thing 20 times. I surely didn't today. I just told you about the players we have bought and you've decided to ignore these facts. Whether that says something about your intelligence or not, I cannot say.

Opinions are a nice thing to have. A better thing to have is the ability to change an opinion as soon as new evidence occurs. I had to change my opinion several times during my lifetime, basically because I wasn't born knowing everything. And I will change my opinions in the future, too. After all, I'm not resistant to advice. And I hope that I'm not thick, either.

  103. did i state it was you no you assumed, it was you,so you must think that you are going slightly down them lines ;-)

  104. Why else would you write it in a reply to me?

    ReplyDelete
  105. That largely is my take on it. It`s one reason I find there idea kind of odd. Surely it was clear some top teams wouldn`t make the cut, therefore weaken the CL. What would there be to then stop them teams splittering off and making there own CL. If the likes of City, Utd, Chelsea, Barca, PSG, Zenit, Anzhi and Madrid all failed to make it in, and all didn`t like the idea of being confined in what they can spend, thus possibly lose there strong hold on club football, surely they might consider making there own CL, as they are the team people want to see in it.

UEFA can`t be that blind can they? They must have seen this?

I just fail to see UEFA enforcing it, which then leads me to the question, why bother even bringing the rule in?

  106. just making idle chat i try and respond to everyone no matter what i think of them (not a dig at you)sometimes i wish i did not bother,as then they do not leave you alone ,hence why i use the word stalker quite a lot, most days when i first come on they are at least 10 bits of fan mail;-)

  107. Well, as things stand, the current CL is where the money is. Should all the other clubs stand together and still play in the current CL, that split-off idea wouldn't work either.

We will have to wait and see whether or not and if how strong they implement the rule.

UEFA have created the rule in order to make exceptions, it seems. If a club bribes them enough, they let them in, if not or if the club is unfashionable, they won't. More or less what you suggested.

  108. Your somewhat controversial views kind of create that fan club. I'm glad that we get on slightly better now.

  109. lol what did i say turned on this morning 20 posts to reply to i made yours 1st ,and agree we do get on better now sometimes;-)

    ReplyDelete
  110. No different here, Jason. Only that, well, people may or may not discuss in an entirely different way with me than they do with you.

  111. For our sakes we kind of need to hope the rules are implemented strongly to those who break them; as it appears to me, from the noises coming out of Anfield, that our whole "plan" for a sustainable, successful future, relies on it....
I can remember Ian Ayre recently making suggestions about it. As with our healthy commercial activities and a world wide fan base to rival the best, we would not be long in the financial wilderness, and would quickly be able to punch our weight with the big boys..
Alas, I too am very wary and sceptical of the whole set up, but fundamentally, only time will tell how it will all pan out. Here's to crossed fingers.....

  112. Haven't seen you in a while. Glad to do so now :-)

  113. I think that even if FFP isn't implemented, or implemented correctly, we'd be well advised trying to break even every year. I mean, what sense does it make to have debt and pay interest for it, too. The interest paid is wasted money, the debt saddled on the club is like a millstone around our head, with little room to manoeuvre, financially. Sooner or later a club with a shit-load of debt saddled upon it will be in serious trouble.
