Come and Get Me: 'Outstanding' £8m LFC target wants 'top club' transfer. Bid...?

In May, Agent Gunter Neuhaus claimed that Liverpool 'have their sights set on' German goalkeeper Hannover 96 goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, who earlier in his career spent two years in Manchester United's youth team. Liverpool are seemingly on the lookout for a goalkeeper to challenge Pepe Reina, and when asked about his future this week, Zieler made it clear that he is very interested in a move to the Premier League.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild yesterday, Zieler - who has featured in 74 consecutive matches for Hannover - explained why he wants a move to England:

"I have a past as a player in England; I fluently speak the language, and my desire is to play for a real top club during my career.

"The people over there are totally keen on football and I am definitely able to imagine playing for a club in their league in the future"

Germany manager Joachim Loew is a big fan of Zieler, and in a recent interview, he enthused:

"The Hannover goalkeeper [Ron-Robert Zieler] is great, he's really good and has a lot of class,"

German national team coach Andreas Keopke also rates £8m Zieler. he told Bild:

"They [Zieler and ter Stegen] have great serenity, and they've played outstanding this season with some great performances"

Hannover general manager Dirk Dufner recently claimed that Zieler 'will stay' at the club, but he is not surprised that clubs like Liverpool are in for him. He told reporters:

"He is a super goalkeeper. It’s rather normal he is in the focus, and I was actually wondering why, until now, he had not been approached by another club"

Hannover conceded 62 goals last season, so perhaps that's why Zieler hasn't been approached (!)

That level of goals conceded is hardly a ringing endorsement of Zieler's talents, but to be fair, the club's shaky defence arguably deserves the lion's share of blame.

Decent competition for Reina...?

Positives-Mkhitaryan is close to joining(according to reports) Luis Alberto will be signing to, negatives- papadopoulous isn't going to come because we don't want to pay 19 million for him.

  6. I will take the Papa thing as a positive too, he is a good player who I want, but not for 19mil. 12mil yes, 14mil at a push but 19mil? never. Fat better players available for that price.

  10. Mignolet is way better than Zeiler IMO. Mignolet has been outstanding this season and is successful in the PL. We should have one Belgian for sure now. Belgians are on fire lol :D

  11. Mignolet any day. I am a bit confused with German keepers now. Heard really good things about Ter Stagen & thought even 15mn would be a good investment, but he was not so good against USA.

Mignolet is in great form, at right age & most importantly, in the biggest competition for a WC starting spot with an equally impressive Cortois; he 'll give his best this year. Anything >10mn & Mignolet 'll be a real deal, even if Pepe stays (& accepts to be no. 2). Begovic & Mignolet 'll be sold this year to bigger clubs, if we delay, next year might have to pay higher in desperation for an inferior keeper as Pepe 'll definitely leave.

  12. He had an serious knee injury and would, but he would cost too much. 19m is just overpriced for a 21 year old
