The threat of legal action for defamation has forced midfielder has forced Marseille midfielder Joey Barton into issuing a public apology to Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann.
On Monday, Hamann and Barton were involved in an angry exchange on Twitter, and, predictably, Barton went way over the top and hurled a serious of vicious personal insults at Liverpool's Champions League hero.
Hamann threatened legal action against the former Newcastle player, and tonight, Barton has posted the following apology on his personal website:
"On Monday evening tweets exchanged between Dietmar Hamann and I went beyond the boundaries of banter, opinion and common sense. I accept that my comments were offensive, untrue and related to matters of a personal nature, of which I had no knowledge.
"I have apologised to Dietmar personally and now wish to apologise through the same social media channels that I used to make them, as well as my own website. I appreciate my comments have caused Dietmar and his family some distress and I fully regret that.
"I also appreciate that my comments should not have been made, as they could have damaged Dieitmar’s reputation, which should remain intact as a fantastic player and ambassador for German Football, as well as the game in general.
"Dietmar and I have now agreed to draw a line under the unfortunate exchange and neither of us will be making any further comments on the subject".
Having received similar forced apologies from several LFC websites I personally sued for defamation, I know a lawyer-guided apology when I see one (!)
This episode just underlines again why I absolutely detest Twitter: it's raging cesspool of online bullies, cyber-stalkers, cowards, thugs, and other assorted (mostly) anonymous idiots.
Didi is one of my favourite LFC players of the last 20 years: a top class player, and a real gentleman, and I hope one day he returns to Anfield in some capacity.

Maybe it is just me, but I think this is way down on the list of things he should be saying sorry for.
ReplyDeleteI wont touch twitter with a bargepole, full of keyboard warriors. Bartin is an embarrassment to scousers, theres no way he,s articulate enough to pen an apology like that, he,s a complete, utter toer*g, thank god lfc never showed any interest in him
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I picture him say it with a french accent now :-) Still it is good he has said it, so fair play for that.
ReplyDeleteon a different note, Liverpool-Kop fantasy footy league is looking alright. didn`t have as bad a week as I thought, turns out paying attention and actually logging in has helped hahaha
ReplyDeletewho cares really about joey barton the guys a low life . More we talk about him makes him feel worth something . Shit footballer even worse human enough said.
ReplyDeleteDarn, I was supposed to put a link to that on the site. Do you have the web address and the sign-up code by any chance?
ReplyDeleteSome of the things which were said by Barton were truly disgusting and classless definitely lawyer guided as you say. As with the majority of apologies the person is not sorry he said it but only sorry he got in trouble for it.
ReplyDeleteThere,ll be no trur sincerity in it at all mate, completely guided by someone with a brain in their head who represents him
ReplyDeleteThis guy is unbelievable...at his age he's still so bloody immature. But the worst thing is...How can you still go around bashing people verbally and physically, and still get paid a fortune????
ReplyDeletePractice!
ReplyDeleteHamann was one of my favorites also. Which is why I laugh when other fans try to say that as I don't particularly rate Lucas that highly, I must not understand football - because obviously I must be obsessed with goal and assist stats exclusively.
ReplyDeleteBtw, Barton plays for Marseille, not Lille...
Barton is the epitome of trailer trash, and he knows it.
ReplyDeleteThe article doesn't even say what was said?!!
ReplyDeletebartons sorry to next time,a an crying out for help i feel soory for him because when his football career is over who knows what he will do,even joey would probabley admit that
ReplyDeleteon another subject see blackpool are snubbing rodgers calls evety club we deal with we alienate fsg need to wake up and smell the coffee before its to late ,if your interested in a player go in with a sensable offer not stupid offers either way (woefully low or stupidly over the top)
ReplyDeleteMarsellie not Lille. Barton has a big mouth for a very average footballer. He would be tying hammans shoe lace if they were on the same team. Your parent club is QPR for a reason mate.
ReplyDeleteAh what a fine example for a human being Joey Barton is, not. We all make mistakes in life, we all use the wrong words at time, but to do it time and again without learning anything really says a lot about a person. Barton simply is one of the thickest professional football players out there right now.
ReplyDeletejaimie your facebook site is a right little dictatorship
ReplyDeletei wonder why people tend to even take notice what barton says or does. insignificant person.
ReplyDeleteby the way. For saturday?! im hoping we go with something like this.
--------------Reina--------------
wisdom-skrtel-agger-Johnson
---------Lucas--Hendo----------
Gerrard-------------------Borini
---------Suarez------------------
-----------------Sturridge-------
anyone hopping on board? i for one hope that both downing and sterling get benched.
YOU'RE BANNED
ReplyDeleteFor once, I have to agree with J. Carr. Seems we have a perchant of making stupid deals, we either bid ridiculously too low or we take an offer that would make Mancini chuckle. And with Guardiola going to Bayern next season, I've become a closet Bayern fan :D
ReplyDeleteTwitter isn't that bad though, its through twitter I found Jamie's site on an LFC handle... But I agree with you, there are a lot of online thugs but at the end of it all, there are some rare intelligent people out there. All you have to do is know which handle to follow and if you don't like anyone's tweets, you can unfollow or block the person. Beside following someone like Barton would just ruin a beautiful timeline
ReplyDeleteHe also plays for Marseille, not Lille...
ReplyDeleteI think in this instance it's more to do with Karl Oyston than anything we've actually done wrong.
ReplyDeleteJoey Barton seems to pick fights with everyone! I mean what does he want?
ReplyDeleteHe very fortunate to be earning so much money in this crazy unfair world and still he acts like this.
I think it might be too soon to start Borini! And playing him on the right wing is just a waste of his talent IMO...
ReplyDeleteNevertheless it's a nice line up :)
I remember there was a pretty strong sign Joey Barton lobby because he's scouse when he was at City. Even Stevie G joined in. Imagine that, we'd actually have someone with some fight in him in our midfield...
ReplyDeleteWith respect, that is a naive statement. Blocking people makes no difference at all; they can still lie about you and get away with; they can still follow you around. Clearly, you've never been harassed online by an anonymous nutcase. Twitter promotes bullying and harassment, and they point blank refuse to to anything about it unless there's a media outcry. It's indicative of the 'not my problem' approach to modern society. I can't wait for the time when some hacker group like anonymous takes them down.
ReplyDeleteI think it boils down to the "I can do/say whatever I want in the internet" attitude that makes people get brave online.
ReplyDeleteThe Government should tighten up the laws regarding this but of course then there is the whole free speech thing that will come into play.
So I don't know. I just try to apply the golden rule as much as I can.
PS Anonymous are cool!
I'd love to see him and Vinnie Jones go at it,lol
ReplyDeletegive him a 1/2 then bring in the kid
ReplyDeleteYou didn't receive any apologies Jimmy. You're telling lies.
ReplyDeleteI think Jo B had one too many during this spat. This guy is all class.
ReplyDeleteJamie what is REACTIONS?
ReplyDeleteI would imagine it would be very one sided, however Barton looks like a nasty fighter, I can imagine the odd kick to the Ba11s, or finger into the eye move being given by him lol
ReplyDeleteThere are also the issues of actually trying to police it online. It can be so hard.
ReplyDeleteThe Anonymous bit is a interesting point, it would appear the public seem behind them, and view them as batmans of the internet, yet no one actually knows them, or there real reasons, could so easily be for bad purposes, yet appear good, to get the public on there back. Slightly deep but who knows there true political motivation?

ReplyDeleteSign up code is unknown to me, I think the guy who set it up has it. is is in a old thread somewhere, I will hunt out later and edit this post
It's when someone on twitter reposts a link this article. It should be disabled but there's a glitch with Disqus that won't allow me to do it. Hopefully that'll be resolved soon.
ReplyDeletethink it might be offering 4 million for a player they have told everyone they want 7 for dempsey all over again
ReplyDeletethat would be a right bitch fight two hard men in there own head
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean that we "alienate" every club we deal with?
ReplyDeleteI know we had our issue with Fulham over the summer.
But what other clubs are your referencing?
And in terms of Dempsey, weren't we the only bidder for the entire summer before Spurs came in at the end? If Spurs don't come in, doesn't Fulham sell him to us for that 4m? Or were there other teams involved?
blackpool charlie adams swansea joe allen ,they set a fee we try and offer half of what they want, then we either pay every penny they want or don,t get the player the yanks think they can decide the value of other clubs players and they cannot
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly, I am a bit confused.
ReplyDeleteI was under the impression that Allen was a simple deal in the sense that he had a set number for a release clause? I always thought it was just a question of A) whether we would cough up the money for it, and B) whether Brendan was allowed to approach a Swansea player in the first year of managing LFC. Now, I tend to agree with you in the sense that we overpaid for him, but I am not sure why that would alienate Swansea. It was the largest sale in the team's history. In terms of Adam, if I remember correctly, we wanted to offer something in the range of 5m, and Blackpool wanted around 10m. We settled on 7m. And then we sold him for 4m this past summer. So our initial valuation was on target, we simply overpaid for him.
ince 4 million dempsey 4 million we have just said sorry to fulham ,we are tapping players up and hoping the player makes it happen
ReplyDeletebarton is a c"nt .his brother is a murdering c" and doing life .his old fella joey senior played local football and then in the northen prem and guess what he was a c"nt as well. a lowlife family
ReplyDeleteif they get 7mill .we will get 2.5 mill sell on so put up another4 .5 and we have snider the money saved on cole and sharin will cover his wages ! or is that to simple for our club?
ReplyDeleteits to simple we have to complicate everything its like we have invented a new way of running a football club ,think it,s called shitta shatta
ReplyDeleterun our club wouldn t this lot run a bath
ReplyDeleteonly if you liked cold baths on a night like tonight
ReplyDeleteSpot on mate, vinny jones wouldnt have lasted 2 mins with jimmy case & barton is just a tool
ReplyDeletei know vinnie jones i would love souness to have still been around he would have shown him and the crazy bunch who was the boss
ReplyDelete
