18-year old Olimpija Ljubljana striker Andraž Šporar has revealed that his ambition to play for Liverpool FC, and he's made it clear that he will not stop until he achieves that goal.
The Slovenian striker - who has 7 goals in 20 games for his club this season - had a trial at Tottenham a few years ago, and in an interview today, he revealed his determination to one day play for the Reds. He told Sportske Novosti:
"I'm quite ambitious and my goals are high.
"I will only be happy when I wear the Liverpool shirt. That is the club I support."
Šporar seemed to enjoy his time with Spurs, as he revealed in a recent interview with Planet Siol. He enthused:
"It was great. I trained with the reserve team, which also included Giovanni dos Santos. It was not really a trial - I was sent an invitation to train with the club.
"I took a look and played a game against Bolton. Tottenham won with 3:0. The atmosphere is totally different than in Slovenia".
Quite a few players have publicly expressed a desire to play for Liverpool. In 2011, Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan told reporters:
"I most want to play at Liverpool because of the culture of the club and the fans"
A year later, he reiterated his Anfield preference:
"As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition. In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for them".
When asked about Liverpool's interest a few months ago, Borussia Dortmund winger Kevin Grosskreutz said::
"I love Borussia, but I cannot rule anything out. It would be a dream to play for Liverpool at some point".
Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna is another player who dreams of Anfield:
"Liverpool is a dream club, and it is awesome that they are interested in me".
In October last year, HJK Helsinski striker Joel Pohjanpahlowon told Finnish TV channel Yle Kutonen:
"I don't know where I'll be playing next season, but it's my dream to play for Liverpool FC one day"
Time will tell if Šporar has what it takes to pique Liverpool's interest. Two weeks ago, he came 4th in Slovenia's Young Footballer of the Year awards race, so he's certainly on the right track.

Players who passionately want to play for LFC should be given a look at in the least...
ReplyDeleteAlways like to hear players who want to play for the club!
ReplyDeleteDon't know if you say my comment but, was the other comment system to buggy?
I play football and I passionately want to play for Liverpool ;oP hehe!
ReplyDeleteSign me up Brendan!
these are the type of players we want players who want to really play for the club,on a side note the longer we fall behind the other clubs in england never mind europe the less of these players they will be you can only live on past glories for so long ,and imo it will be long time before the good times return to anfield
ReplyDeleteThe amount of times I dreamt of that!
ReplyDeleteSign me!
Did you guys hear Guardiola signing with Bayern? What a coup!
ReplyDeleteJust shows that Germany can attract big coaches. In my opinion the Bundesliga is more competitive than the PL.
Indeed! Me2 haha!
ReplyDeleteHi mate. Sorry I missed your comment earlier; not around as much today as usual. Yes, the other layout is buggy, and causes problems for certain other areas of the site as everything is in an iframe. Plus, it's just needlessly cluttered, and many posters have highlighted that. This layout is simple, clean and easy.
ReplyDeletei wonder if lfc ever thought about going for him or do you think ,fsg think they have the tikka takka master,
ReplyDeleteTo add a name to your list of Liverpool supporting players I can recall Sergio Agüero voicing his desire to play for us when he was still in Argentina.
ReplyDeleteIf Spurs can invite Sporar for a weeks training, so can we. Our coaching staff should take a look at him and if he shows promise, at least get a first refusal with his current club.
bravo jaimie stick to what we know best, all these new fangled ideas are starting to give me a headache, its like tikka takka,a new fad but i prefered it when we used to play pass and move football, but times move on ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat coup for them, and fair play to him if he goes. It would have been easy for him to go to a Man City or Utd (not saying Bayern aint massive - Just mean money wise). The Bundesliga is run so much better than the prem IMO. I don`t think the level is as good, but I do admire how it is set up.
ReplyDeleteSquawka, who do what I think is a very interesting approach at assessing players performances, have just put out their Top 50 Prem players so far this season. Quite a few, me included, will be (or were in my case) surprised to see who came up in first place.
ReplyDeleteAnd here's the link:
ReplyDeletehttp://blog.squawka.com/2013/01/16/fa150-top-50-english-pl-players-in-201213-so-far-10-1-featuring-liverpool-manchester-united-chelsea-arsenal/
Gettin quality players in that want to die for the shirt is always better than the usual mercenary who doesnt give a monkeys when the going gets tough
ReplyDeleteAgreed!!
ReplyDeleteHaha yeah, can't understand it though because he's been poor all season ;0)
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any of these players nor have heard of them with the exception of Arda Turan. Are these guys any good? I'm sure half the players playing in the lower leagues in England would dream of playing for LFC, but no matter how passionate one is if they don't have the quality then it's better for all parties if they stay put.
ReplyDeleteWould that be Mr Gerrard by any chance?... Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteWell, well, well... Where's Zanatos CN? Bound to be on your case shortly.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting way of evaluating players performance as you said. I'm surprised he's top, and by some way. It's a shame when you look at someone like Gary Cahill who we were linked with so heavily. His stats are so impressive and he would have been outstanding for us in Rodgers system. Clearly though he has made the right choice with a champs league medal around his neck, as much as it pains me to say it!
ReplyDeletePlaying for Liverpool would be a dream for me too! I'm a 57 year old, slightly overweight, ex-fighter jock who used to play a pretty fair #10 role.
ReplyDelete"Now that he has adapted his game there is a freshness about him that is delighting Liverpool fans and he looks to be dominating our rating s for a good while to come."
ReplyDeleteMaybe not Zantos' though :)
your signed 50 grand a week do you for starters;-)
ReplyDeleteYes, yes it is :)
ReplyDeleteI must say I was surprised he is number 1 though!
Maybe. He seems to have games where he is less influential but games he's been really good in.
ReplyDeleteSome wont accept he has adapted his game. Perhaps that's why they're so critical?!
ReplyDeleteI would love it if we got involved in players that are you but have more experience. It seems that Belhanda, who fits that description, is available ,at least to Totenham. We need to return the favor and nip him from under their noses. He is a versatile player so he would definitely help the squad.
ReplyDeleteDidnt Harry Kewell say he was a fan before he signed.
ReplyDeleteThats twice you've said it in this thread lol.
ReplyDeletemy last post was for you Jason,i'm no fan of it either.
ReplyDeletesorry m8 you have lost me,twice what lol
ReplyDeleteYep, they have kind of a more scientific approach rather than a scale from 1 to 10.
ReplyDeleteCahill is a fine player indeed.
He was really poor in quite a few matches, but is getting better now. Anyway, the way these guys base their assessment on actual performance related stats, Gerrard seems to do a lot of things right, in spite of having poor form.
ReplyDeleteBelhanda? Good shout.
ReplyDeleteAnd Robbie Keane.
ReplyDeleteShould somehow the FFP rules prevent super-rich owners to put hundreds of millions into clubs like Man City, Bayern will be among the top 10 richest clubs in Europe. Big stadium, fans at least all over the country, and they have money now anyway.
ReplyDeleteSome five or so years ago there was some kind of analysis about the intensity of European leagues. The Bundesliga came second, only behind the Prem. It's getting more and more competetive there, too, as quite a few clubs buy class players. Van der Vaart, Ribery, Robben, Diego, Luuk de Jong to name a few. And they develope outstanding youngsters. They are doing something right that English clubs are doing wrong. Maybe not earning as much money from TV subsciptions is somehow a blessing in disguise.
this format is way better
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I wonder if Torben Piechnik was a fan too :D
ReplyDeleteDidn't Torres have a YNWA tattoo?
ReplyDeletebreaking news tesco have made a bid for andy carroll!!
ReplyDeleteI even wrote to Jim'll Fix It to get me a trial!!!
ReplyDeleteAll of a sudden, I'm not that fussed my letter wasn't picked.........
They reckon Joe Allen used to support the Mancs.
ReplyDeleteEnough said :(
Suarez has admitted to diving against Stoke. Dreading JK's take on events.
ReplyDeleteThink I'll give this site a miss tomorrow.
NB: The one he admitted to was so obviously never going to win a pen.
He's over their age limit, isn't British and probably can't be bothered to compile a compendium to promote his ideas. ;P
ReplyDeleteMy take on it is that Suarez is a cheat, just like I've been saying ever since he arrived. And despite the fact he *admitted in public* that he cheats, you still don't condemn him? Anyway, when I post my article about it, the thread will be closed for comments. I can't be bothered to listen to more of the same justifications/rationalisations/disgraceful enabling.
ReplyDeleteDon`t they get to have there own TV rights, like in Spain etc? I think Bayern are a massive club, and as I said I like how there league is run. It doesn`t get much credit, as everyone talks about the Prem, La Liga, Serie A and then Dutch League, but the German leagues have a great set up. We could learn a lot from it, but will we??? prob not, as the prem is to geared to making money.
ReplyDeleteFFP, I still don`t think it will be brought in right. I read today a lot of the prem clubs are meeting in feb to discuss options about it, and if rich owners should be allowed to give money to the club etc. I really want to think it will be done right, but looking at how some are still running, it just doesn`t look like some are taking it serious.
I personally don`t actually think FFP is the right answer, as I think it benifits certain clubs a lot more, and will actually ruin the competitive edge to the league, purely as I can`t see how some clubs who are of a smaller fan base, located say between Liverpool and Man Utd (or any other two big clubs) will ever be able to challenge or compete again.
I get the nice idea, of making it so no one should go into debt, which should protect the club for the fans, but can see how it will limit some clubs. Now adding a wage cap would be a prefered choice for me, but I aint got a clue how you enforce it, and stop clubs from giving large bonus`s instead, or buying players houses etc to top up the wages.
Maybe FFP and a Wage cap would work better if they could iron out the creases.
With just FFP how will say Wigan ever be able to compete money wise again? They will be stuck. At least a wage cap added to it, would protect the club for the fans, and give Wigan a more level playing field when it comes to buying players (not fee, but wages offered).
Why make it personal to me?
ReplyDeleteGive it a rest please.
ReplyDeleteTomP and and CN - stop making snide references to Zanatos. If you can't handle someone having a different opinion to you, that's your problem. Vehemently disagree by all means, but please refrain from entering the realm of indirect belittlement. Thanks.

ReplyDeletelooks like were stuck with brenda then
ReplyDeleteyou said recently if you hear the word ticky tack again you were gonna go crazy or something
ReplyDeletewhy bother posting it then ,or is your world the law of the land, also re the tom p ,cn,and zanatos spat whilst not wishing to get involved if it had been the other way round ,i doubt anything would have been said ,my name as been used plenty of times in snide comments but because the poster is a seemingly favorite nothing ever gets said, not that i,am bothered but i made one reply back(maybe in bad taste in your opinion and i get a bollocking)lets keep it on a even playing field
ReplyDeleteha ha yes your right m8 the words kill me a load of b0llocks thought up by someone to try and make them look clever
ReplyDeleteArgh, you wrote something not too dissimilar to picnic. Now I am getting hungry and have to eat. I'll never lose any weight when you are making comments like this :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd Solskjær used to support Liverpool. So did Walcott.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen one snide comment about you and I really read a lot of comments on here, ah, wait, that Charlie posted something not too nice about you, but you didn't seem to care. But I didn't notice that you got any "bollocking".
ReplyDeleteNo, as far as I know the TV rights in Germany are also negotiated/sold by the league.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe my hopes for FFP are just wishful thinking. Anyone who wants to put millions into a club will find a way. Anyway, it surely is against some European law to prevent an entrepreneur to put money into his venture.
The same goes for a wages cap. The super-rich will find a way to pay whatever they like.
I also want to play for Liverpool FC. I'm actually a right winger too so I would complement Suarez and Sturridge very well. I also promise to make stupid comments on the club website not shying away from clichés such as "We will learn from this defeat and move on", "we were unlucky not to get something from the game" and "we feel pretty hard done by, we got thirty four shots off and none of them came close to goal". AND, just to pull you over the line Brendan, I'll do it all at half of Stupid Stewie's wages. So when do I come in for my medical. I'm a bit fluish right now so the perfect time to sign another player who is not "match fit".
ReplyDeleteSurely got to be worth keeping an eye on him. The club needs players who are passionate about playing for them.
ReplyDeleteI would think the same, but in the USA they use wages caps in a few sports, and seem to get away with it, and there law suit crazy. For me, if the owner is putting in money and doesn`t want it back aka not a loan, but a gift I can`t see the problem, as the club isnt getting into debt
ReplyDeleteErr excuse me Jaimie but I have not made any reference to anybody's name, deliberately to avoid sniping. My response above is made as a general comment on those that are overly critical. Besides, Zanatos of all people shouldn't be upset by this as in the previous thread we were debating he made numerous references to anteater along the lines of 'some people think stats are everything lol'. This was a direct reference to me as I was the only one discussing this aspect with him. So why was nothing said then Jaimie can I ask? It's rather strange that someone can be so precious about this and I'd also point out I have been accused of various other allegations of insults by Zanatos which are simply not true. So I don't expect to be singled out here
ReplyDeleteJust to change topics a little since I think it's unanamous that we would all done the LFC kit in a second let alone for 80K a week, but have you heard that Gala disclosed the transfer fee for Sneijder? 6.2 Mil! Now, I'm thinking that its only logical that as a team that has been resigned to the fact that we cant attract top talent, Liverpool would be on the phones right now with Inter trying to push a deal through before other clubs can figure things out. This, to me, could be the bargain of the season if it happens. He's had injuries and there has to be a reason Inter aren't playing him anymore but we all know he has the ability to give us that added spark in midfield and score goals as well. Worth a bid?
ReplyDeleteThe idea of FFP in principal is good. But as you've metioned, a super-rich, super-bored owner could give his plaything club a nice gift in form of a few hundred million pounds if they wished to. The original idea of FFP surely was to give different clubs a level playing field, to stamp out some bored billionaires to fund success or competition. It saddens me, but that is what the world has come to, not only in football.
ReplyDeleteSome people think stats are everything wasn`t directed at you. The allegations of insults, was correct, and I did ask several times for you to stop.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, live and let live, I`m sure your a decent guy, and I`m sure we can all get on fine. bygones and all that.
I'm happy to drop this too as it is tiresome but once again I have not insulted you! I said one of your comments was ridiculous, that's not saying you as a person are. I didn't say you couldn't read, I asked if you could with the insinuation that if you could then you wouldn't be misquoting me. That is not an insult. Being told to 'get a clue' was not a comment by me, ill let that chap defend himself there, and I have never agreed or commented on that. By saying 'you asked me to stop' is suggesting I was abusing you continually, if so where and when?! You too may be a great guy and I'm sure we can get along but you have to stop with these 'insult' claims! Everything I have said is in black and white for you and anyone else to read and I challenge you to show me an example of these insults or refrain from repeating these allegations. Finally, I'm a decent girl not guy thanks
