Confirmed LFC line-up vs. Mansfield: Attacking trio rested; Sturridge starts...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has rested much of the regular starting XI for today's FA Cup tie with Mansfield.

Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling miss out (with Gerrard not even in the squad), but several fringe players come in and get their chance to stake a claim for inclusion in the next league game. Today's starting XI is as follows:

FULL TEAM: Jones, Wisdom, Carragher, Coates, Robinson, Allen, Lucas, Shelvey, Downing, Sturridge, Suso

SUBS: Gulacsi, Suarez, Henderson, Sterling, Coady, Skrtel, Flanagan.

Liverpool legends Didi Hamann and Mark Lawrenson expect Liverpool to win, but the Kaiser sounded a note of caution ahead of the game. He told the BBC:

"The worse the pitch conditions then the better their [Mansfield's] chances. But it depends on Liverpool. If they turn up with the right attitude then there will only be one winner. But upsets do happen. I was part of the Manchester City side that lost at Chesterfield, so you never know."

Lawro conservatively predicts a 2-0 win for the Reds:

"Mansfield have reached this stage the hard way, after coming through replays in the last two rounds, and this is a massive day for them. The only problem is that they are up against a Liverpool side that is in form and has competition for places up front following the arrival of Daniel Sturridge. They should have too much for the Stags".

It looks we'll see the following formation:

----------------- Jones

Wisdom -- Carragher -- Coates -- Robinson

----------------- Lucas

---------- Allen ------- Shelvey

Downing --------------------------- Suso

--------------- Sturridge

Good line up, let's see how sturridge plays!:)

  2. Still no assaidi sahin? BR clearly dislike them, so sell them now why paying their wages for nothing, feel for assaidi rodgers is wasting a real talent

    ReplyDelete
  3. i can never understand why a strong team doesnt start? do the damage and then make changes? or face the danger of slipping on that banana skin!  only one person to blame if this goes tits up brendon!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think he should do ok but am just hoping he doesn't get slaughtered if he's a little off the pace, as he hasn't got our strongest team around him in this match. Should still be enough though.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I really find myself despising Downing and hating seeing his name in the starting line-up. Especially when considering the fact that the little glimpses of Assaidi have shown a far superior talent imo.

Downing's time surely must nearly be up now though, and I can't wait to bid good riddance to that lazy bugger (at least Cole was just past it and could no longer deliver anymore. In contrast, to me, Downing just comes across as an entitled, buck passing prick)

  6. Most of the line up have seen quite some first-team action this year already. This team should be strong enough to beat Mansfield. Let's see how Robinson fares. Hope he will become an able understudy for Enrique, though he seemed a bit light-weight so far.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Play with purpose and this team can win comfortably, good luck to Sturridge!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Clearly BR dislikes them? That's just one possibility. Clearly they don't try hard enough in training would be another and there are plenty more.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Maybe the rumors he might be shipped off are true?
I hear Dortmund want him back!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Assaidi has gone to the African Cup of Nations.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'd love to see a Sturridge hat trick, this will quieten down the detractors, for a wee while anyway, as Ba managed to grab himself a brace yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That's another possibility, probably the right one, clearly :-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks for the reminder as I was just thinking why he didn't even make the bench again. Must say I do like the look of him (although he might need to beef up a little) and hope he has a good time in the ACN. Maybe then he can become a proper member of our squad.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Have you actually heard that the pitch we are playing on today is in a very bad condition?

Risking every regular player would be daft and the team that has been selected surely is good enough to beat a team playing in the Conference National.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Its nice to see Coates given a start. Lets hope he takes his chance as we need a solid centre-half back up, as Carra is now nearing the end. Good luck Sturridge. Its going to be a tough game !!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Fingers crossed.
Anything less and that will be proof enough that we've been ripped off and Sturridge is a flop that should be released immediately...

Score a hat-trick and he gets another week to prove that he is a flop...

    ReplyDelete
  17.  not the quickest of line ups.......would like to see yesil or a young reserve striker on the bench to bring on if we are coasting , but this team should be to much for our opponents

    ReplyDelete
  18.  good strikers like playing in these matches as they will inevitably get a chance....hope sturidge bangs a few in and hits the ground running

    ReplyDelete
  19. Does anybody else remember Skrtel looking entirely out of his depth against Havant & Waterlooville?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Playing Oldham next

    ReplyDelete
  21.  a poor pitch will suit carra and coates....they struggle against fast nippy players on a good pitch...

    ReplyDelete
  22.  im looking forward to seeing how Robinson plays as much as how sturridge debuts.....

    ReplyDelete
  23.  Agree jason we really have to start putting teams like this to the sword early doors....we have to get at then from the off..what i don't want is us to start fannying about and inviting them on to us

    ReplyDelete
  24. Seriously? You are gonna decide his future based on one match? That too his first? And why so much negativity?

    ReplyDelete
  25. yes m8 4/o is easy possible it could be more

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sarcasm online...

I'm one fan that is fully behind Sturridge's signing.
I'm just slightly peeved at all the overly negative reaction to his arrival - something which I can't remember being voiced so consistently for any other recent arrival tbh (in spite of many of them costing a similar amounts/a lot more money, while having nowhere near his level of talent)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jay is using sarcasm, mate. Judging by your name, can I presume that English isn't your first language?

    It's all cool bro.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It seems like the majority are judging him before he even plays the one match, based on him dancing to celebrate his goals, or stating his confidence in his ability to play in a certain position.

To make it very clear - I am delighted to see Sturridge arrive, regardless of what anybody else says about him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree, I've gone for 6-0

    ReplyDelete
  30. 7 minutes to score debut goal. Not bad.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Not bad scoring seven minutes in your debut. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's "only" Mansfield.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sturridge. Nicely done by Shelvey.

    ReplyDelete
  33. With Sturridge scoring first, i may add.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am so impressed by Mansfield lads willingness to throw themself to block the shots and defend their goal to the end. pressing like maniacs. if they can keep it up second half wont be easy. + we propably concede due to mindnumbing slowness of our central defence, even i could outrun carra and coates.

i wish our boys would defend like mansfield, they look absolutely driven, giving 110%

    ReplyDelete
  35. They have certainly started the second half really well. Suarez to the rescue, i.e., to help kill off that spell from Mansfield. If they still come out fighting after that second goal, credit to Mansfield.

    ReplyDelete
  36. And yes IT WAS A HANDBALL. Ref shouldve spotted it. JK is having a field day with that. unfortunately so is rest of the football press in UK.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Suarez loves that doing hand kiss celebration but maybe with the manner of that goal, not the wisest thing to do, that celebration!

    ReplyDelete
  38. So ref is helping us today, fearing what will happen at crapford... Did we really need Suarez, and for Stturidge?!? And another misplacement of Suso, when will he get the chance at his own position?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I actually feel a bit sorry for Luis for that one tbh, you could see that he was uncomfortable with it, in fact he was looking around half expecting it to get called up.....but it wasn't, pretty instinctive goalscorer reaction IMO, just went charging through with the intent of scoring a goal.

Very harsh on Mansfield though but IF the shoe had been on the other foot......im sure they wouldn't have complained....its up to the officials to spot it & they didn't, yes he shouldn't of done it and you could see that he kinda wanted to own up to it....

& This is coming from one of his harshest critics re this kind of behaviour..., but im willing to cut him some slack for that one though, hopefully not too much will be made of it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've been really impressed with Mansfield too. I'm writing this at the 73 minute mark, and they might make me eat my words. But this should be a 1-1 game. The Suarez score shouldn't have counted, if we're being honest, and it's almost a miracle that the back-heel flick from Mansfield didn't go in. They are definitely  playing with more heart and enthusiasm.

Mansfield came out with a pretty good game plan, all things considered, and have been tougher than I thought they were going to be. Especially at the start of the 2nd half. I'd like to see what their Coach and Management could do if they had a budget.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Going to be a tense last 10 mins now....

    ReplyDelete
  42. 2-1 if we fail to win this someone should have a serious word with Shelvey for the amount of decent chances he is missing... he is awful

    ReplyDelete
  43. The rule I always learned when I played was, you play until you hear the whistle. He may be uncomfortable with it, but no player, even the more moral and upstanding ones, are  just going to stop play and admit a handball. But he did look really uncomfortable with it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. its all the same what happens in last 10 mins. kind of hoping we will lose this one.

we have totally embarrassed ourselves already. we keep up with this standard Manchester United will wil us by 4 goals , atleast. i hope Rodgers tells boys how poor they were.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I seem to remember he has a tattoo for his daughter on that wrist. He sometimes kisses his ring finger for his wife, and the tattoo for his daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The rule I always learned when I played was, you play until you hear the whistle. He may be uncomfortable with it, but no player, even the more moral and upstanding ones, are  just going to stop play and admit a handball. But he did look really uncomfortable with it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Would have liked to see more speed too. But Yesil on his own wouldn't have done that. Sturridge looked quick on his break-aways, but it's against Mansfield. I don't remember him looking that quick against a team like Arsenal though.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Are you kidding? Brendan will do the usual "He played Great!" or "Quality win" crap he always does. I just want him to once grow a set and say something honest, like the Suarez score shouldn't have counted, or that Flannigan yellow was deserved, or they lacked killer instinct today in a match they should have won 5-0 with the B-team in, or that it was a crap performance. But I don't think he'd do it if his life depended on it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Job done but only just! Shelvey was poor as usual, surely we have better options then him..

    ReplyDelete
  50. didnt Klose just do it and get fair play card afterwards? scored , then went to ref and said i handballed it, goal didnt count.

but i agree. i wouldnt have done if i had scored that way. Refs are the ones calling fouls in field, not players.

    aint a perfect world.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'll take the win, shite pitch, not a totally convincing performance but sometimes you have to win ugly & there wasn't an awful lot going for this game in the mud of mansfield, not pretty or pleasing on the eye but at least we're through to the next round, job done.

    ReplyDelete
  52. it was a Fuc**n disaster performance, just like against stoke and villa.

And it proves if our players out of first 11 arent cut for premier league standard.

or perhaps they just went out there with lousy mentality, its only mansfield....

well mansfield rap*d us in field, we couldnt cope with their high pressing. we werent the better team.

    ReplyDelete
  53. This wasn't pretty. Credit to Mansfield, who gave us a real run for our money. We couldn't handle their direct approach in the second half at all and they probably deserved more out of this game. They've had at least one decent call for a penalty and Suarez's goal, well, as blatant a hand-ball as you'll ever see one. Not happy at all with it.

Robinson doesn't look the part for me, unfortunately. Suso may have been played slightly out of his best position, but that shouldn't result in him forgetting how to play football at all. Poor game. Shelvey really should have scored from one of his numerous chances. Coates looks a bit slow to turn and hoofed the ball forward a bit too often for my liking. Is he scared to lose the ball in a dangerous position?

Man of the match: Probably Jones who's saved us some blushes, but Downing was, imho, our best out-field player.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Because it was Suarez. we will get whole press down on us tomorrow, was it henderson, downing, or anyone else, it wouldnt have been that bad.

goingto be couple of weeks before that fades away.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yeah, I forgot about Klose. He's a class act. They're very rare anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Im not so sure it will be blown up that much tbh, Barnes is saying it was more of an instinctive reaction, even the Mansfield manager has let it go....

Fact is his skill and impetus took the ball into the net....., very quick reaction though... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well that was horrible.
1st... Luis....please admit the ball came up and hit your hand.  I did not see it as blatant... the ball jumps up... Hand is already streched out....ball goes right at it.  It happens and it was not blatant as the pundit on the Fox team said.  But it was a handball and he should have said so.
This goes a long way to giving the people who give you S...to show them that you can own up to a mistake.
I just wished he had not played at all..... that pitch was horrible.

Coates looks up/down...and sometimes outplayed by players that should have no business out playing you. Some of these younger players just do not look sharp...but it's easy to not look good when you barely play, i guess.

    ReplyDelete
  58. An instinctive reaction? Yes, to cheat. It's in Suarez's blood to cheat, and that's been proven time and time again (IMO). He has even admitted in public that he'd use his hand to win Liverpool a game (!) With that in mind, how can today's goal be possibly seen anything less than deliberate?

Watch the replay: Suarez's hand goes down towards the ball; it doesn't just hit his hand and then ricochet into the net.

Disgraceful way to win. Pointless victory IMO, which means nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Players I wanted to see tonight:
Stturidge- potential there, but too early to tell.
    Coates- no epl matches yet.
Robinson- no epl matches yet(vs Norwich maybe off the bench, if we have 3-0.
    Suso- misplaced and average.
    Shelvey- off the bench, maybe.
Flanaghan- call me crazy, but I'd play him in the starting 11 till Jose returns. Ok, hard matches ahead, but at home for sure...

    ReplyDelete
  60. Not the be a wise A... but if a ball is hit into you or kicked into you....and it's your arm or hand that it is kicked or flies into you...how is it blatant?   I cannot blame the player for getting a ball hit back to him if he already has his arm out.

I just wished Luis would have just gone to the ref and said so.  Would help his rep immensely.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Poor second half. Again same problems with high pressing on our back line. We don't have midfield player capable of shielding ball and turn around in place.
Shelvey was worst player on the pitch by mile and after this game I have serious doubts for Coates. To slow, with his height Coates must win more of aerial battles.
And I don't understand Sturridge-Suarez substitute. If BR decide to risk injury of Suarez on this pitch, why don't play them together for last 35 minutes?

    ReplyDelete
  62. You may have a point.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Well, I, too, think it was a handball, and am less than happy with that goal. It leaves a bitter taste, but claiming it is a pointless victory because of that may be pushing it too far. I honestly think that Gerrard dived to win a pen in Istanbul. I couldn't do anything about it, it was not my fault the ref saw it differently and I am happy that we've won that game.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sturridge was never going to play the full 90. BR had said earlier that he wasn't going to play him today. I was surprised to see him in there. But glad he started. Still, I don't get the Suarez substitution either. I would have liked to see them on the pitch (mud?) together just so they can work on starting to learn to play off each other. But I guess that will come eventually.

Coates, I don't get all the hype around him. You're right, he is slow, and frankly didn't show much on Defense today.

    ReplyDelete
  65. behave jaimie thats i widesweeping comment (IMO) you can tell suarez was uncomfortable with it by his body langauge......its instinct....the PL Is full of cheats but somehow suarez has to play by quennsbury rules or is castigated....whats the difference between what suarez did today or phil neville diving with no one near him trying to win a desision for everton...non whats so ever...the matches yesterday where litered with controvsy but it will be suarez who makes the news....Unluky mansfield but no cigar

    ReplyDelete
  66.  im more happy with the win.....do you think there fans would be complaining if they won by default

    ReplyDelete
  67. Potpuno si u pravu u vezi sa zamjenom Staridza...

    ReplyDelete
  68.  ive said all along for a big guy coates cant head for toffee

    ReplyDelete
  69. I wanted to see Sturridge and Suarez together. I agree, plenty of potential. Also agree Suso is misplaced and that Shelvey should have been off the bench.

Coates? He isn't impressing me. I don't get why everyone thinks he is going to be so amazing, he certainly didn't show any hints of it today.

I also agree about Flanaghan, even though he completely deserved the yellow card he got.

I just wish Lucas had played more of a role in the middle. He was pretty silent today, and I was hoping he could have led more and control the attacking, like Steven Gerrard does.

    ReplyDelete
  70. What are you on about? Do you have one objective, non-biased bone in your body? The Neville incident has absolutely nothing to do with this, you're just trying to dilute the issue once again instead of addressing it.

Neville got booked for that dive, and then he got blasted by Moyes in his post match press conference. So what exactly is your point?

Gareth Bale has been book FOUR times this season for diving, and people still try and make the ridiculous argument that refs target Suarez.

Suarez is in the press so much for cheating because he cheats alot! It's that simple. He hasn't done so for a few weeks, and that's great, but he returned to form today.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Liverpool didn't win fairly; the club's skill and industry didn't create the win, therefore to me, it's pointless. In my eyes, it's a pyrrhic victory.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Well jamie is going to have a field day....and there is not much to say about it...other than...please score a few goals with your feet Luis and beat ManU

    ReplyDelete
  73.  agree robinson doesn't look the part....downing played well  as did jones.....sturridge scored which is all you can ask for a striker...the good point is he took his goal well...Carra played well  ....coates looks like hes running in treacle....allen and lucas and suso where average...wisdom was good IMO...and hendo looked okay when he came on..

    ReplyDelete
  74. Lucas was more creative in his other games since returning(he tried more forward passes)- so I think he was told to pace down and just get another game- regaining fitness and not getting hurt.
Flanno did deserve it, but he gives me confidance that he can tackle without fouling, and if the ball goes through-player won't and it won't be a red.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Me: Hey darling, lets watch a football match together!
    Gf: Hmm...ok! Who`s playing??
    Me: Liverpool against Mansfield
    Gf: Mans...who?
Me: Mansfield, a non league team!

    30mins later...

    Gf: Red or Yellow?
    Me: What!!?
Gf: I mean...Which one is Liverpool!!?

This sums up the match my friends! Liverpool was so poor tonight that even I was left wandering if I was really watching Liverpool play...
Brendan Rodgers was right when he said that he would treat the match as if it was against ManUtd. The Liverpool players were so cr#ppy that Mansfiled town were made to look like ManUtd indeed!

It was a sh#tty performance from everyone on our team! All of them were pathetic and made a fool out of themselves battling like crazy to scrape a cheap victory from a non league team that anyone else in the PL would have beaten at least 4/5-0...They were all over the place, some getting cramps(wisdom), giving away silly fouls(Lucas, flannagan etc), handling the ball to score(Suarez) or prevent them from scoring(Allen, Carragher etc), while others were missing countless chances(shelvey) or simply doing nothing significant at all on the field(downing, henderson etc).

How come we performed so poorly against nobodies like Mansfield is beyond me! Its not like we fielded our reserve squad against them...since all of them has experience playing for the first team. They were simply ridiculous period! This clearly shows how mediocre our squad has become over the years and its no wonder we are struggling in the PL with such dross playing for us! All of them should be sold especially those england international sh*ts and also those overrated talentless youngsters that we have and new players of genuine quality should be bought...

I`m ashamed to call myself a liverpool fan and I wish Mansfield had won the match in our place because they deserved it more than us!

    ReplyDelete
  76. iD have more sympthy for mansfield if they hadnt cheated by turfing up the pitch.....funny how this kind of behaviour is okay to gain an advantage ( poor pitches can potemtially end a players carreer ) yet hanball is outrageous ....some people want it all ways ....i believe in karma tuff luck mansfield ...my front lawn is in better condition than your pitch what goes around comes around

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'd have been upset if we had lost today, and we should have. Mansfield should have gotten a PK off at least one of the two hand balls we had on defense too. But as pissed as I'd be, I'd have been able to hold my head high. (When you walk....through a storm....hold your...) Can't do that today even with the win.

    Walking alone right now. damnit!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I hate the way he scored tonight, but vs manu I would love to see two handballs, bloody thieves!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I do not know what happened to Coates .....besides age and lack of playing time....or just nerves...but this guy was being groomed to take over for Diego Lugano for the Celeste.

Someone needs to have Lugano give his heart and balls to Coates soon....or else he will end in the Belgian League.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Did Sturridge really play all that well though? He put that first opportunity in the net, but he had two more chances where he was alone against the GK, and muffed it. No killer instinct, or desire to destroy a team today. I'm not judging him unfavorably right now, but I think it's going to take a few more games before I can tell. But he had chances and didn't take them well. I think a little more could have been asked.

"Running in treacle," that could be my new favorite line on here!

    ReplyDelete
  81. four cards and double unpunished. just saying, though I wanted to see something Klose like tonight...

    ReplyDelete
  82. And you know they turfed up the pitch deliberately...how? Did you witness it?

    ReplyDelete
  83.  no but are spurs fans are not clambering to condemn bale...the point is The PM is full of cheats all players cheat they have since football began ....suarez handballs big deal...the ref should spot it or the linesman....well with a bit of luck rogers will come out blast suarez and its all over

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'd prefer us to beat them fair and square.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Me too, but sometimes their cheating brings the worse out of me...

    ReplyDelete
  86. yeah. who on earth said that Shelvey is a goal threat? boy cant put a ball in goal if his life depended on it. no composure infront of goal at all. takes a second too long excute and defenders are all over him, even fourth tier defenders (or what league does mansfield play).

goal scorers are a different breed, shelvey isnt one. Sturridge on other hand is.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Truth is, we should have put the tie to bed in the first half. Shelvey and Sturridge both had decent chances to extend our lead. Appart from that, our first half performances was good. Being only a goal down gave Mansfield all the believe in the world that they could get something from this match and the second half was painful to watch. I am going to wash my eyes with soap now.

    ReplyDelete
  88. they trained on wet pitch evening before. they knew they would ruin it.

debatable. but id claim pitch condition does more harm to liverpools possession based game than to mansfields game.

    ReplyDelete
  89. just looked at another site and rogers is defending suarez Lol

    ReplyDelete
  90. Downing was our best player tonight, by the way...

    ReplyDelete
  91. Sturridge translates Staridza? Interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  92. trained on wet pitch evening before, knew they would ruin it.

debatable but, i say it effected more to Liverpool possession based game than to Mansfields game. calculated that they would get gain, not cheating though, not in my book.

bit questionable tactic but the pitch is same to both teams.

//there is some glitch JK, i commented same stuff a moment ago and it didnt show.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Coates was terrible today, couldnt match a fourth tier striking force. soooooo slooooooow.

    ReplyDelete
  94. a is added to all the names(and some other letters) depending on position of the noun in the sentence. and dz is actually -dg-, we pronounce his last name like he does- staridz

    ReplyDelete
  95. Still we've had 65.3 % of possession. And passing the ball wasn't a big problem for us in the first half either. We couldn't cope with their direct approach in the second half.

    ReplyDelete
  96. lets call it an educated guess.....(IMO) they  probably did the bare minimum to satisfy the refs ( refs are under huge pressure to play because of tv commitments etc )  requirements ..as for witnessing it well the evidence was on tv for all to see

    ReplyDelete
  97. sturridge scored thats all you can ask ...ill be quite happy if he scores a goal a game and plays crap

    ReplyDelete
  98. Well, in my language it would be Starridsch. Not to dissimilar to your translation.

    ReplyDelete
  99. With reactions like that we won't need to have a sub goalkeeper

    ReplyDelete
  100. another point about coates ( off topic so jaimie will remove it ) is his moustache looks fake  he reminds me of peter sellars in the pink panther

    ReplyDelete
  101. As anti-Downing as I am, and reluctant I am to agree with this. It is sadly true, Downing was indeed our best player tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hope until the match FA add the rules we have recently discussed. Yellow cards for everybody who's not concerned by a situation but sees fit to besiege the ref. That'll have them down to 8 within the first 15 mins.

    ReplyDelete
  103. “Just because it’s Suarez everyone has a go at him, if the referee doesn’t see it then what can you do?”

    ReplyDelete
  104. The one in Istanbul, too?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Yes, it is his daughter's name- just read it.

    ReplyDelete
  106. His daughter's name- just read it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Fifth tier.

Shelvey is considered an attacking midfielder, isn't he? I'd expect better from him.

    ReplyDelete
  108. im really not bothered about how we beat utd ill be honest ...the ref can score with his hand for all i care...these views may not go down to well with the sudden emergence of such pious fans ..well i prayed for a win and we got it ...the lord moves in mysterious ways

  109. Trying to make things on here more fun again, gilstrap?

  110. Sport was always my piece of justice in life, but ref scoring with his hand for us might be just the kind of justice both teams deserve...

  111. got to give credit to Mansfield i'm afraid, they turned it into a proper FA cup match. For me there are more positives than negs when you really look at it, we could all be crying into our beer...cool finish Mr Sturridge!!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. MITZSU,I would've posted something very similar if i hadn't seen what you put.On a positive note DANIEL STURRIDGE's movement looked good and to score on your debut regardless of the level of opposition should give him a boost.
I hope we get another attacking player this month because production from 2 players won't be enough. We have a lot of style over substance players. If the THOMAS INCE deal can't be made we should tell our scouting department to earn their money and come up with a name before the window shuts.

    ReplyDelete
  113. And so is THEIR manager...

    ReplyDelete
  114. Was it suarez who save'd the ball on the line in the last world cup?

    ReplyDelete
  115. running in treacle with divers boots on! did he win a header 2 day? get shut asap

    ReplyDelete
  116. Gerrard's 'dive' is not as clear-cut as Suarez's handball. I think it's possible he dived against Milan, but I can't be sure. There's no such ambiguity with today's incident.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Not according to Mansfield's manager, he's not.
'I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt and say it was a reaction, he's a goalscorer and I think goalscorers put the ball in the net anyway.'He's a great fabulous talent, I'd go pay to watch him week in and week out. He's a wonderful player.'Cox also insisted he did not feel cheated, saying: 'No I don't. For me to come out and say something like that I think would be quite cheap. 'If it had gone in the other end and one of our players had done it I think we'd have accepted it. This is the FA Cup, this is the beauty of it, sometimes it goes for you, sometimes it doesn't.'It's a beautiful game and for me he's a fabulous talent and for this country we're lucky to have him here. I don't think we should call him for doing something that I think 99 out of 100 players would do.'
Suarez hit the ball with his hand/ball hit his hand and he booted it away, then it landed in the net. He never celebrated until the ref had signaled that it was a goal and had looked round with a disappointed look on his face.

BUT, the self righteous anti Suarez brigade will have no doubt missed all this and just jump on the bandwagon.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Why is this so important? Was he near the incident? Did he even see it? Your interpretation conflicts with the Mansfield goalkeepers perception, and he was the closest person on the pitch to the incident, and he said:

"When you see Luis Suarez laughing and kicking the ball over the line, you know what has happened.

"Stewart Downing said he couldn't believe the official had missed that. When you see that it is the decisive goal, it is sickens everybody".

  119. So curious to read the internet tomorrow aobut suarez goal.
wonder much criticism it is going to get.

here is what Mansfield Manager Cox had to say about it:

"Their second goal, that's when you need a referee or a linesman to spot those kind of things," said Cox.

"I don't think he (Suarez) did anything wrong. It was instinctive centre forward play.

"But if you look at the body language of players, all my lot are
running to the ref and linesman and Suarez is blasting the ball in the
net to say 'I've just handballed that'.

"I don't want to say anything bad about him because he is a fabulous
talent, and if the shoe was on the other foot then we would have taken
    it.

"But when you've officials at that level, you expect them to pick up on it, but they are only human."

Although the Mansfield fans chanted "cheat" at Suarez, Cox added: "I
don't want to get involved in that. What he did was instinctive.

"We should embrace him as a talent, rather than for doing something that was instinctive.

"All he did is do what any striker would have done.

"If Matt Green had done it we would have accepted it. I can't be two faced on that."

I think it is a valid view. I share it. i think it was instinctive. but after that it is debatable If suarez shouldve said "i handled the ball dismiss the goal",  or not. that wouldve been a right thing to do, but then again, it isnt his job.
    black and white or grey?

i definetly wouldnt have admitted the handball if i had scored that way. ive been fouled a thousand times as a striker and defenders have gotten away with it, i think its not my job to call my own fouls, if i get away with them all the better, balances the books.

  120. fifa ref and fifa linesman they should spot a hand ball but they didnt .thats part and parcel of football. luis got lucky he didnt in the derby .swings and roundabouts. though on mansfield. but at least it will keep all these posters quite who think we should keep coates .how bad is he !! got to sell

    ReplyDelete
  121. if downing says that hes touched...what sickens everyone is a guy getting 70g a week for only performing 15 month's into his career ..perhaps he should doante his wages if it bothers him that much....talk is cheap

    ReplyDelete
  122. That's debatable. Both incidents. While it clearly looked like a deliberate handball to me today, Rodgers has a point, too. If it's true that the ref has seen it and decided it was not deliberate, would we still expect the player to come forward and claim it was. That in itself would, in theory, merit a yellow for dissent. The Henry handball against Ireland looked more deliberate than Suarez's today.

  123.  its time for your coat coates .....i assumed his scotish roots would mean he was tight in defence...the guys looser than a prostitutes knicker elestic...boom boom

    ReplyDelete
  124. His (Cox) words are worthy of a real man. Very honest. Kudos!

"All he did is do what any striker would have done."

"If Matt Green had done it we would have accepted it. I can't be two faced on that."

    ReplyDelete
  125.  when defenders put there arm up for kicking suarez he should put his arm up for handball....hang on he just did and scored YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  126. Same goes for their shot-stopper:

"But it happens. It's football, I don't think you can call him a cheat. I know a lot of people have done in the past."

"It's just a natural reaction sometimes for people to put their hand out."

    "Every
man, from a Sunday League football team to the Premier League is going
to do that, and if it gives you an advantage and you can get away with
    it, then unfortunately that's football."

I've been saying that for ages. Everybody who plays the game him- or herself would admit that, at least the honest ones.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Surely if you watch the clip from the game you can see that he doesn't "laugh" in celebration and doesn't celebrate the goal at all like he would have normally. He was aware of what happened and that the ref didn't call it. That is neither his fault nor his problem. We seem to be the only club that seem to want to castigate the best club the player has.
    WHY?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Thank God someone else who also agrees with me. I just don't see what Shelvey offers, is it "potential", if so he has a long way to go to reach it.

    ReplyDelete
  129. WE were never going to play any type of passing game on that pitch. That was the whole point. I cant really blame them, in your local league I'd probably do the same if the team you were playing had better players.

    ReplyDelete
  130. He is an awful player with the potential to become an average player, he will never be anything more then average if he even reaches that level

    ReplyDelete
  131. I thought Sturridge did very well when you consider it was his first game in months. Took his goal nicely, which is all you can ask for, and showed some good signs or what a player he could be, all this with neither of our best two widemen on the pitch to help  him (Sterling and Suarez).

Yes he might have scored two more, but they werent certs, and he did well to make the runs into those spaces. Looks very good to me

    ReplyDelete
  132. Been saying a while Orme that Downing is starting to look good.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I thought the Mansfield manager showed a lot of respect, and was a credit to his team with his interview after, not many would have been as upright as he was, it would have been the easy thing to do to stick a knife into Suarez, but he didn`t. Fair play to him

    ReplyDelete
  134. "When duty calls, you've got Balls." LOL

  135. even if gerrard dived, he was still fouled

  136. shit, since when are we versing man utd next week...

  137. Half those players do not deserve to be wearing the Liverpool shirt, I cannot believe their lack of spirit, the slightest bit of pressure and they fall apart. We are half way into BR's reign and I am starting to get a niggling little feeling that this job is going to be to big for him, I cannot understand why he is always complaining that the squad is too thin when he is the one who got rid of all the dead wood and then failed to ensure that FSG were going to put up the money for replacements. To Shelvey, Suso, Coates, and "others" and Brendon Rodgers and FSG .....I ask!!! .....what are you guys doing to my beloved Liverpool.....its a crying shame!!!

    ReplyDelete
  138. I don't understand why Suarez was playing at all. Why risk him getting injured or whatever when 1-0 up against such opposition when we have a match against Man U coming up. Assaidi and Sahin must have done something really bad in Rodgers' opinion for them not even to be included in these matches. Obviously the manager thinks it's worse to say you're being played out of position in the press than to shush the home supporters since Downing plays every game. Glad to see he's got his priorities in order.

    ReplyDelete
  139. we have other three hand ball incident last night... the blatant one should be by Allen..... please write something about him too...it's wrong to deliberately done that isn't it.....please Jamie... at least let's review in slow motion whether there was any intention from Allen on that.... However, I believe BR selection of player is wrong...he need to rest Suso...he didn't contribute to anything lately......
