"I can leave" - Finally, the exciting transfer news LFC fans have been waiting for...

£20m Kenny Dalglish flop Stewart Downing has admitted that could be on his way out of Anfield in the January transfer window.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Downing - said:

"The manager has said I can leave if I want to, but then, all of a sudden, I've come back into the team - it's a strange situation.

"I think it's just the nature of football. I'm at an age where I cannot be sat around. I need to play and the manager understands that."

With respect, Downing's departure will not be down to'the nature of football', it will because he just isn't good enough for Liverpool.

A recent report in the Liverpool Echo, also confirmed that Brendan Rodgers will allow Downing to leave 'if a suitable offer is received:

"The Reds will listen to offers for the 28-year-old winger, who cost £20million from Aston Villa in the summer of 2011. Liverpool are resigned to suffering a sizeable loss on the former Middlesbrough man but will hope to get back around half of what they paid Villa for his services".

This is great news. However, it's all well and good transfer listing Downing, but:

* Who will sign him?
* How much can the club realistically get in transfer fees?

Liverpool will almost certainly make a massive loss on Downing, one of Kenny Dalglish's most ill-advised signings, but I sincerely doubt the Reds wil make back 'around half' of the £20m transfer fee.

In my view, the club will be lucky to get £8-£9m for a player who has not scored or created a goal in the Premier League for 18 months now (!)

Getting rid of Downing will decrease Liverpool's wage bill a little, and if the club can also offload Joe Cole in January, there will be lots of cash available to pay new players.

Downing has been a major disappointment for Liverpool, and Reds legend Dietmar Hamann is still irritated by the amount of money wasted by Kenny Dalglish on the ex-Aston Villa player. He tweeted:

"I can't recall any club who paid nearly £90 million on 5 players and none of them had an impact for the team".

Maybe Sam Allardyce will come in for Downing, who can then join fellow flop Andy Carroll at West Ham.

  1. I'd be surprised if we received more than 5m for him, if we find a taker that is. What probably most of us fear is that he will remain with us until his contract runs out.

  2. would great it not be Rogers would transfer himself

  3. Still scored and assisted this and last year, in which it's 3 goals and 4 assist, he played decent at LB and was our best player yesterday.

  5. I think Downing has been extremely unlucky as well in his Liverpool career because he has created enough chances to have his assist tally rise upto 10 atleast but the strikers we had or have couldn't take them. But Downing has himself to blame because he hasn't had a game in which he was unplayable, he has had game where he was 7-8 rated out of 10 which were few in between but never 9-10 and most of the time he was 4-5 which is just not good enough. Downing has the technical ability to play for Liverpool but he just isn't mentally strong enough to play for Liverpool.

  6. i manager says you can leave on friday then starts you on saturday only rodgers could do this shambolic

  7. Yes and take Allen...borini...with him to a champion ship team at best

  8. you obviously didnt go yesterday. Downing was outstanding along with johnson

you should be spending your time questioning sterling (worth 50k per wk, ha ha) suarez and shelvey

  9. I know everyone just hates Downing but IMO shouldn't we just strengthen our squad in Jan before selling our players. I know he is on high wages and doesn't deserve to start in the PL games but he has done well in the Europa league. With Enrique's fitness concerns he provides a good backup. At LB position we only have Enrique and for some unknown reason Jack Robinson is not trusted so why not just keep him till the summer.
Then in Jan we can spend all d cash available on buying wing forwards and strikers instead of going into d market for a backup LB.
Jaimie I would love to know your opinion on this.

  13. Whats alarming is Downing was our best player by far yesterday .....just supposing he gets Mom in his next 3 matches and Allen and gerrard carrry on playing pants....will he let them go and keep Downing

    ReplyDelete
  14. Because another one of Dalglish's flops may be leaving.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And Allen and borini are.....im really sick of the double standards at liverpool

  16. A part of me hopes cole and downing milk there contracts ..its the only way liverpool will shake up there scouting and transfer policy ....by the way if Kelly ( sicknote)wants to go. get shut in January 35 grand a week is way to much for him

  17. what about rodgers hes mr floppy and his signings are as bad its going to be a sad xmas and crap new year ,never mind i will have to get used to it ,jaimie come on ;-) seriously 100% behind rodgers and fsg must be getting down to 99% by now lol

  18. I agree with you 100% Jason ...its so sad its almost funny......I hope im wrong but ive a feeling we will hardly pick up any points over Christmas ...Villa yesterday showed the Blue print to all clubs on how to beat the reds ....If Fulham set there stall out the same way we could be on for another caning

  19. Downing was our best player by far yesterday but still some blind & furious fans are pointing the finger against him as usual. He's not playing in a side which is challenging for strong honours, He's currently playing his trade in a side which has deep problems. And He's not playing week in week out, actually He's out favour. So Is Downing the responsible?. Ludicrous. Liverpool have struggled for 3, 4 years but according to some so called fans, Downing, Henderson (He's getting better & better) are the only responsible of the actual decline. The decline started three years ago when players like Agger, Skrtel, Reina were there and They are still there, all idolised and protected by so called fans. If 12th place reflects our value, then any Player should share the blame. Yesterday AGGER & SKRTEL were outclassed, TOTALLY outclassed, by a poor ordinary striker like Benteke, and it's not the first time They were dominated by opposite strikers, it's FAR to be the first time: at the Hawthorns Shane Long (far to be a candidate for France Ballon D'or) gave us a nightmare, a torrid nightmare. Yesterday Reina did a crucial mistake as usual, Suarez as usual played for himself, persistently ignoring his team mates. But still some fans are ready to laud his egoism and individualism. Liverpool are supposed to be a team, a collective unit, not a one man show, but yeah, Suarez netted 10 goals out of above 10000 chances wasted and still is an untouchable God. But Yeah, some insults against Henderson, Downing, at least are funny.... Sometimes according to some fans it seems They arrived in a challenging side. No one can see our current demise started four years ago, when Agger, Skrtel, Reina were there. And Yesterday senior established players, The Fans' Pupils, were horrendous, HORRENDOUS. Benteke outclassed our back four (apart for Downing, He was the best by far) but yeah, IMO, Daniel Agger is better than Bobby Moore. Woooow.

  20. no caroll=no plan b but that was rodgers decission managers live and die by there decissions, anyway merry xmas ,hope we can turn it round

    ReplyDelete
  21. And Downing is a pure winger Who is playing out position in a side which has not a single striker in the opposite box. Woooow but Downing is the main responsible.....

    ReplyDelete
  22. One of my biggest gripes is the click at liverpool...some players are useless but never get criticized....Skirtel & gerrard have been woeful all season but are untouchable ...yet if hendo or downing are not Mom THEY GET BOOED...As for allen i just dont get him ...i never got him for swansea ...what does he offer ...no assists ...no goals...no dribbles.....cant win headers ....pushed off the ball....15 million .....its frightning it really is how we squander money on average players

    ReplyDelete
  23. I hope we do jason....whats really annoying though is i think carroll would have thrived in this set up as we have never pumped as many balls into the box as we have done lately in games

    ReplyDelete
  24. lol i know but with no target man the mind boggles

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dont build your hopes up too much John...you wont get that much space against a decent team

    ReplyDelete
  26. allens the link up man he not there to tackle or make assists or score, hes there to do what rodgers wants him to do (god knows what)but to some fans hes xabi lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. totally agree about hendo its easy to blame him cos hes kds signing some fans cannot see the woods for the trees

    ReplyDelete
  28. some of the best news ive heard all season, just another few flops to follow then

    ReplyDelete
  29. thats the type of role i could play.....maybe i should go for a trial

    ReplyDelete
  30. he played alright when he had the ball the most comfortable i have seen him BUT he was responsible for at least 2 goals be cause of his atrocious positioning ...he is NOT a left back.

I believe he played better because he was playing his former club but make no mistake this is one of the poorest signings (money plus talent) we have ever made. Its depressing

    ReplyDelete
  31. half our team is second rate and average footballers.we are miles away from even spurs. will be waiting years at this rate with these owners.
stadiums coming on well to eh !!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I only wish KD was still our manager. The crap that he gets from idiots is disgraceful.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Slightly pedantic I know, but isn't 8 or 9 'around half' of 20 which is 10 ?

Personally I couldn't see us gettin much more than 5 million for him.. Unless 'Arry has a thing for him then we could possibly shake QPR down for a few million more !!

This talk of Arsenal is surely rubbish ?? I know le professeur is in a bit of trouble at the moment but he hasn't gone brain dead has he ?

Besides even the french will tell you one turkey around christmas is enough !

    ReplyDelete
  34. Im not being funny Jaimie and im not one of downings biggest fans ...but he has been no worse or better than anyone else ...bar suarez or johnson ( in patches ) ....try watching a game without focusing on who the player is .its causing a lot of fans on this forum to give a warped view of the players performance ...i try to judge a player on a weekly basis of form regardless of who bought him and try to ignore any prejudices i hold if mor did this they would have a more balanced outlook.

  35. As a longtime red we deserved what we got yesterday. Benteke was the difference we would kill for a forward like him. This villa team are better than we all thought and they played utd of the pitch for an hour or so. They are only 4 points between us now so how we can say we should beat them as a divine right is beyond me. We are no longer the great team of the 70s and 80d and as soon as we accept that the better. Take Suarez out the team and we have little quality now. Villa knieve this and snuffed out the threat of Suarez by doubling up on him. We are yesterday's team at the moment sad but true.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So if benteke is a poor average striker what does that make Carroll Ffs. Benteke will be at a top four club in the summer utd already sniffing around him and I for one would live him here.

    ReplyDelete
  37. none of the top teams capable of competing in the champs league play football with wingers who only play percentage balls in the box this is more suited to a mid table epl side playing percentage football. top teams do not play this way . the wide men are more technically skillful able to do more than just attempt to cross a ball into the box.

Downing has CONSISTENTLY shown that hes not up to it ...he is mentally unable to deal with te pressure at a top club. is technically limited . and remember he is in his prime and cost 20 million ...so we have the right to expect more from him.

no one is saying its all downing's fault...he is just one in a number of failed signings ...all brits for big money at a club that cannot afford to waste because of the wealth of the competition ...we are use to much better at the club and we shouldn't accept this current situation otherwise the club and the American owners will accept it too.

  38. Thank God you armchair/angry net fans aren't at ANFIELD supporting the team. The internet gives people with weak character a set of nuts that are missing in everyday life.Last season i thought BLACKBURN's support was embarrassing but at least their fans weren't doing cowardly put downs to management over the net. This season was always going to be difficult our squad is thin numbers wise and with regards to quality is short of players that are productive.
CHELSEA's thing of changing managers every 6 months isn't how LFC traditionally operate. FSG have the man they want so people need to show a bit of maturity and give this guy at least full season.
The style and introduction of youth combined with his ability to change formation or make subs that have gained us points on many occasions is a plus. However, his buys in the transfer market all have question marks against their names. The players we've been heavily linked with STURRIDGE and INCE aren't exactly mouthwatering signings either.
Post match interviews which many of you castigate BR for, seem to be another weapon to hit him over the head with. When you think of WENGER's missed appointments with the opticians or the market style self promotion talk of REDKNAPP by reminding everyone on how good the football was after every game when he managed SPURS.The classic manager line, we should've had a penalty but not acknowledging the claim the other team had. Most of what managers come out with after games is complete gibberish.I choose to ignore not be bamboozled with salesman talk because i understand the process.
Being productive to the problems the team is experiencing should be the main motivation behind any message sent. The negative claptrap that seems to greeted with a sheepish nod of approval is not where my mindset will ever be. I'll judge BR at the end of the season and not be influenced by fellow supporters.

  39. Think that we shook up the scouting system last summer already. Let's see where that leads us. Commoli and Kenny, who have made some of the most disastrous signings in our recent history (along with Hodgson's signing of Cole) have been relieved of their positions at least in part because of their transfer history. Seems like many things have been shaken up recently and the club has been put on a different track. No, I am not happy with mid table, just in case you somehow read that out of my comment. Agree with you concerning Kelly, though. He's been injured quite a bit and should sign what has been offered to him, or do one.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Because of family and work commitments i can only make certain games home and away does this mean i cant have an opinion..If you think Mid table is acceptable and getting outplayed at home to a poor team is okay good for you.....Funny you say people having an opinion on forums are nuts and lack character but here you are doing that very same thing...Happy Christmas Beast

  41. benteke is a poor ordinary striker with a tally of five goals (after He scored twice against us) and He deservedly plays in an average side one tier below Liverpool. Agger & Skrtel with their mediocrity turned him in The New Marco Van Basten, but He's a perfectly ordinary striker and time will surely tell the true... Top four ambitions for Benteke? Don't make me laugh. It's incredible to see how many excuses some so called fans are ready to build for their untouchable pupils....

  42. Carroll, that grand plan B that never worked last season.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You have a point here. People focus on Downing's negatives like inability to beat his man, but don't notice things like that in other players. I'd be hard pressed to find any positives in Downing's game, though, but Sterling hasn't been good lately, either. And he's considered the next great thing by many.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Downing has shown hes not up to it ....but so has most of the squad yet they don't get singled out ....Reina has been terrible for 3 seasons as has gerrard .....and as ones captain and reina a so called figure in the dressing room wheres the leadership these two are the biggest sulkers ...get rid and start again

    ReplyDelete
  45. Still owe Villa 10m for him!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. These are only personal opinions, nor facts nor true. In fact Scums are playing week in week out with Valencia. Which kind of player is Valencia? Valencia is a percentage winger. Downing has playerd here for just one season and half, and now He's been immediately ruled out. New comers deserve more time to gel and adjust their life in a struggling side. We're a Club in demise: You can't point the finger against anyone. We're in DEMISE, in total disorder, and anyone should share the blame and responsibility. Senior players like Gerrard, Suarez, REINA, SKRTEL, AGGER were there When we finished 6th, 7th, Downing was not there and They are more responsible than Downing of our decline. We're currently sit 12th and Downing is falling down the pecking order: You can't point all the blame against him there are many senior established players Who has more responsibility. Big money brit signings faulths? Reina has been a mess, a total mess in the last two yrs, They costed us at least 45 points in the last three campaigns but I've never heard one voice, just one voice, against him as He cost us £100000 a week but Downing, Who's arrived last season in a Liverpool side which has struggled for four years without him, He has to be MOM every game. He's a winger, He's not a striker. He's a winger Who's playing football in a side which have not a single striker in the box area. Is Downing the faulth? Not, THAT'S MISMANAGEMENT. If I want to play football without a striker, then Downing it's useless. There's no reason to sign him.

  47. yes dalglish done the worst transfer dealings of liverpools history C.H.A.D (carroll, henderson, adam, downing) suarez was scouted by benitez luckily now we need hunterlaar sturridege plkease NOT Walcott overrated and no intelligence or goos technically and a playermaker i.e snjeider alonso or modric type

    ReplyDelete
  48. Mean (and obvious thing) to say but won't be missed if he leaves.

Talking of flops, I wonder if Big Sam will even bother with signing Carroll permanently? From the bits I've seen, I don't think he has been any better than Carlton Cole. Compared to his old aerial workhorse of a target man Davies at Bolton, Big Sam must think Carroll is lazy and meek.

  49. Lol

    What a shambles we are.

Should have stuck downing on the villa coach yesterday, I'm sure we could pay them another £20 to £30 for his fare!

  50. listen no british player is worth anything they are all overrated dowing last season had 0 goals 0 assist in 37 pl matches but was still selected for the euros 2012so was henderson the FA is a dictatorship the whole country wanted harry redknapp not the FA coz he is not yes man we brought the worst signings ever under dalglish (suarez was scouted by benitez by the way comolli just made him sign) how on earth was and is carroll worth 35 million he had half a season in the league scored 12 goasls but he was overrated british player no he is getting drunk and assaulting journalists typical!!!!!!!11 get rid of cole carroll downing henderson sign a striker right winger and a playermaker and gerrard needs to be dropped ( he doesnt score them goals anymore ffrom the edge of the box has he lost his right foot bomb) plus he doesnt have defence splitting passes anymore need a modric snjeider type player badly .............. i've been supporting liverpoon since 1992 and also would love to see a player like steve mcmananam too

  52. Instead your of the mindset that implies that anyone that hasn't been or barely been to Anfield isn't worthy of having an opinion the team.

Yes, that is a much better mindset(!)

    ReplyDelete
  53. How right you would be my friend but we must sell to buy. No sell=no money, no money=no buy. We should be a team who strengthens before selling but we are owned by businessmen Americans who want to sell and then buy 2 for the price of 1. Maybe a visit to poundstretcher is in order this jan.

    ReplyDelete
  54. We should sue them for damaged goods. I will look into villas refund policy. Did we pay by credit card? Maybe we can go after the card company.

All this trouble. Why didn't we just sneak him onto the villa coach yesterday? Surely even he would go.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Stop being so sensitive nobody is saying you're not entitled to a opinion but i was brought up to never say something about someone you don't have the bottle to say to their face. What i say on the internet i'm not afraid to argue in everyday life so it's not the same thing.
Heated exchanges in the pubs are common with me so comparing me to people that express insults over the internet is wide of the mark.Just because i don't type angry words at management it doesn't mean i think mid table is good enough for this size of club.
A disappointing result, performance and league position at this stage of the season should result in another manager change?

Ah yes, Rodgers' famed intro of youth into his team....nothing to do with having a very little choice but to do so. Hardly been a rip-roaring success going by our position on the table

Ah yes, gained us points on many occasions.....what a fine points total we have so far(!)

    Some mindset.

  57. Villa fan here. Lets face it Liverpool are no longer the force they were. When I grew up in the 70s and 80s Liverpool were the greatest team no doubt about it. But even Forrest won the European cup twice and we win it once despite liverpool's dominance. A lot of villa supporters including myself had a sneaky feeling we would win the game but not as convincingly as we did tbf. When you look at it from an opposition point if view we look at Liverpool as a top ten- midtable team these days with one decent player ie Suarez. The feeling was if we could snuff him out there was no other player that could score and we our defence did this job well. The football world has moved on for teams like villa and Liverpool now teams we will never be able to compete with the big teams unless some billionaire sheik takes us over. The best we can hope for now us a good cup run. Though you might get into champions league in the near future if they change format by finishing in top 7 but top four you are deluding yourselves as your miles away from a man city Chelsea or utd or even spurs.

  62. Went over my head as I didn't care for that so-called point but I doubt angry fans on a forum bother these modern footballers much.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Is it fair to repeatedly blame Dalglish for the wasted money?

Surely Comolli had a greater input into the prices being paid. He was FSG's man. Comolli is still defending the 35 million spent on Carroll because we got 50 million for Torres.

Kenny came in in a temporary capacity on 8th January 2011, Andy Carroll was signed 3 weeks later........ Is it feasible that Kenny had a final, if any, say in transfers at that point?

    ReplyDelete
  64. The points total so far is rubbish i agree but are you really going to be childish and not acknowledge that formation change and subs have changed games in our favour this season?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Impact of his sub-changing has hardly been the stuff of legends. Nothing to write home about. Formation change? hardly been any better or more effective than last season. We have been as toothless as last season, if not worse, in terms of goalscoring chances.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think we are in danger of losing too many experienced players, the squad is already so thin and young. Downing isn't great but he is steady, he is experienced, he is a natural left footer and he is versatile. If Downing leaves in January will he be replaced? FSG have massively decreased the wage bill and playing staff yet we are still shopping in the bargain basement for new players. We have been quite lucky this season so far with injuries, we really need to keep all the experienced players possible just to keep us in the top half of the league never mind top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  67. "Stuff of legends" Why are you exaggerating my points to make yours stronger?
I meant tactical formation changes like the one that stop us getting beat by EVERTON, because we looked weak in defense up until the change. What do you want another manager change?

    ReplyDelete
  68. I really think KD had a big hand in the transfer of the 4 Brit players for that mindless 80 mil pounds. Do you really think he did not have any say in transfer decisions? The deadly combos of these 2 men, KD and Comolli, set LFC back for years with irreparably negative impact. I can only suggest these 2 champions must clock at least 5000 hours in football manager game and attend some serious financial lessons if they ever want to be involve in the game again, unless the club owner hates his club so much that he wants total annihilation for it. Till now, I still cannot get that ultra-complex rocket-scientist formula for paying 35 mil pounds for an unproven player after selling a world-class player for 50 mil pounds. Which club in the world does that, after paying 35 mil pounds for a boy then claim that he's a 'player for the future' and 'will come good'.? I bet with anyone till my last dollar that Mansour and Abramovich will soak that whoever in oil if anyone after spending their money, an obscene sum, and make that comment.

    ReplyDelete
  69. My point is made no more sensational than your original post and your finishing question in this last post, so I don't think I'm introducing anything new to this exchange of posts, in relation to the so-called exaggeration. Why were we weak in defense in the first place? Why Suso and Wisdom at the same time, two inexperienced young players on one wing, one of those players, Suso, nearly always ends up getting subbed (he got subbed in the Everton game too did he not) as well as being questionable to say the least when it comes to the defensive side of the game. Hardly innovative or genius-like, the changes he made. More like smoothing over his initial mistakes. No, I don't want a new manager but that doesn't mean he is immune to criticism.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The quite a few of the so-called spine has hardly been anything to write home about for the last 2/3 seasons. The new boys get picked on, fair enough deserve it but some of the so-called spine players have hardly covered themselves in glory in recent times.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Team selection did surprise me at EVERTON but a mistake was made and he fixed it.SUSO and SAHIN are technically two of the best we have at the club but you're right until they show more defensively they will remain bench players.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Fact is that our scouting department have been extremely short sighted for years. I actually think that Downing has been alot better than most the past 2-3games, but I still believe we got ripped off big time! Really it's not his fault, he was never going to be the catalyst to spark us back to top four status just look at his track record-one decent season in 8 yrs of prem football!
If there is a mass exodus of "average" players we really need too replace with quality players who won't cost an arm & a leg, so scouting needs to improve. To think Benteke cost 7mill compared to Carroll-he's quciker, stronger, more atheletic, can beat a player. It's time we did our homework.

    ReplyDelete
  73. With STURRIDGE and INCE now heavily linked. That leaves me thinking BR and our new scouting team should be doing a better job.MAN CITY uncovered very few hidden talents under our new scouts. The majority of the players they bought were established names with expensive price tags.So why go and get them in?
The scouts at CELTIC would've been a better fit for us because they spot quality talent for peanuts.Years of wasting money looks like continuing under this new scouting department.I hope i'm wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Unfortunately the new owners have succeeded in lowering ambitions and thus we ourselves pereive us to be a mid table team. Never in the past would liverpool have said were buying for the future players with a re-sale value! Infact we would sign players just so united didnt get them. Tables have turned and turned big time. Even in the Hicks/Gillet era we were still aiming to win the league and we bought in world class names, now if we are telling the world ourselves that were looking for top 4 and acheiveing mid table the mata's, hazards and huntelaar's wont really want to come.

I dont blame Torres for leaving - because he could see there was no ambition - a world class player wants trophies and medals. We at the moment are no where near offering that - infact were not even telling prospective players that. So yes we will attract local british talent who still have some respect for our past but no chance if were going to get international players.

And those that think the players BR has brought in are any better than what KD brought in are burying their hands in the sand. Allen was once again poor, apart from his first few games he has been consistently poor. Last week diame over-ran our midfield and this week it was weimann. People are right it is slightly unfair to consistently have a go at Downing because others have been as bad if not worse. Allen, Gerrard, Reina, have done nothing to right home about. The sooner we admit that our transfer and scouting policy is an utter shambles the better - what more could elude to this that the fact that we are heavily reliant on the players Rafa brought in? Even Suso and Sterling were his buys! BR brings in Sahin and Assaidi and they are no where to be seen? I get the feeling that he is playing Cole and Downing just to put them in the window for the January TFR window when they will be sold and we'll probably end up with bent, sturridge and ince - and if we have a disasterous season mnus any trophy and 10th in the league then the fans pressure will be on the board to get rid of BR too - so next man in will be getting rid of Borini, Allen, Assaidi etc

  75. To be fair. we have a new scouting team now. The previous team was dismantled after Rodgers appointment. Lets see what these guys will bring in, in January. It will be their first transfer window.
I would bid my time and wait.

  76. It is clear that we need solid CB's. Dagger and Skrtlel are still struggling and get caught on the counter attack. Reina also must be blamed for not coming out to cover when the defenders were beaten. In Rodgers tic-tac style he is the sweeper.
Gerrard's presence in the midfield is not doing any good to the youngsters confidence. Somehow there seems to be no understanding between him and the younger players.
Does Rodgers have the Balls to bench Gerrard. I think Not.

  78. Henderson is treated the same way too, and I just don't understand why. Hendo and Adam are the only 'flops' I'll defend.

Downing I dont think is good enough but look at his goal record no matter what price he came to LFC for he is not a goal scorer yet some people expect 20 goals a season.

Sterling is burnt out already, Henderson and Shelvey occasionally played out of position, Suso sent to the bench, Assaidi is hiding with Doni somewhere. What do you expect of these players?

  80. things wont get better in january window either, sturridge and ince coming in, more average players to frustrate supporters, we wont get anywhere signing players like this, relegation must be a worry

  81. It sickens me, just sickens me to realise how much money was flushed down the drain. Commoli may be irritated that he got sacked but he can't be nearly as irritated as I am for the money that was wasted. At least the other culprit has the humility and class to keep his mouth shut about it. I think the Downing deal annoyed me more than any of the others. The entire planet of Liverpool supporters were screaming and shouting to buy Mata. I don't know of anyone, anywhere, who said Mata? No way, we need Downing for 20 million! No one. Now I understand that you don't look towards your supporters when you're going to be responsible for a multi million pound deal but I cannot for the life of me understand nor believe that there weren't people at the club who warned against this deal. Downing was older, injury prone, never interested any big clubs and had only just finished one good season in many. If no one at the club told Kenny and Comoli that Mata was the better deal, the entire scouting department and anyone else who sat on his hands should be sacked. A complete and utter idiot could have seen where this was going yet we went and did it anyway.Henderson, Coates, Adam and even Carrol I can somewhat understand but buying Downing was a fool's decision. So obvious. I can only hope that we find another idiot to pay at least half of what we shelled out for an over the hill, injury prone, ineffective, big mouth almost was.

  83. your not wrong ..we will carry on wasting money,if Rodgers signings this season are an indicator....but im also going back to a point you made on formation and subs ...ive watched every game this season by various mediums and have seen nothing and i repeat nothing that the average Laman out of the pub wouldn't have done....Rodgers is out of his depth on both a tactical and managerial front if you think different i respect that but once again if you think we should even be in a position where a massive tactical change saves a point against low spending Everton then we truly are in the sh*t

    ReplyDelete
  84. It's not fair to blame any one person. Kenny identified the wrong targets, Comoli didn't push back hard enough in relation of value for money and FSG put too much trust in the both of them. When Kenny came to Comoli and said, we need Downing. Comoli should have gone to Villa and come back to Kenny saying no deal because they won't sell him for 8 million and he isn't worth more than that.

  85. "Suarez was scouted by Benítez". Yeah, that super-human Benítez. He did all the work on his own, scouting, talking to the press, negotiating contracts, making tea for the lads. Is there anything he doesn't get the credit for?

I very much doubt that the players you mention would come to a team that has won nothing but the League Cup in recent years simply because of Rafa. Just think about it. Mata get's an offer from CL winners Chelsea and from LC winners Liverpool. Chelsea also pay twice the wages that Liverpool offer. Where does he go?

    ReplyDelete
  86. True, was the same with Lucas in the past. People concentrated on his mistakes while they turned a blind eye on Gerrard when he did the same mistakes.

What do I expect of those, or any, player? Well, I think the problem lies within our fan base. Many of us demand instant success. We've been the best side in England and Europe in the past, but that's it, it's in the past. We all want to be back there, but it will take a lot of time and patience to achieve that. Those are things many don't seem to have and it transfers from the stands to the players on the pitch. I think if people would be more patient with Henderson, he'd become a very useful and good player for us.

    ReplyDelete
  87. WEST HAM match, brought on HENDERSON and he had the assist for the winner.CHELSEA match, brought on SUSO and it was his corner that made the goal that gave us a draw.WIGAN SUSO came off early and when he did the team had better balance. We went on to score 3.
EVERTON as I said before COATES came on, the formation changed and we never really looked in danger of shipping a goal after that.
We have been poor, the league position doesn't lie but I try to see the positives going forward.Better attacking players which I'm hoping are better than the names we've been linked with and we could go flying up the league very quickly.
I look at the standard of the PL and it lacks quality I see bang average teams and freak results are becoming a regular occurrence.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I would sell him for 20p if it saves us on his wage...same goes for Cole.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Nothing would make me more happier than to be proved wrong ....but i just cant see this great tactical acumen....the fact that we are so poor in a very poor PL just adds more worry....I feel jol will watch the villa game and see a very simple blueprint to beat liverpool similar to the tactics spurs used against swansea.....defend high up the pitch in numbers against the middle 3 force an error and break ..As a 3 i dont think an out of sorts gerrard a lightweight allen and a recovering lucas can do the job in midfiled of covering when the fullbacks get forward ...but i hope im wrong

    ReplyDelete
  90. How can anyone defend these types of players!? Did Chelsea, Manure or City sniff round Downing, Hendo, Carrol? Not a chance because they - like most rational Liverpool fans could see they just do not possess the necessary make up to be a success at Anfield. It's not their fault KD and DC spend stupid amounts of money on them but we can all see they are just not good enough to play for Liverpool. The result being we are now a midtable club. Anyone defending them should look at our postion and see you get an average league position with an average set of players. Honestly can you ever imagine City or Manure at the moment getting turned over by relegation fodder at home like that? No chance. We are delusion as Butch saying we are going for 2nd place!!!

  93. Villa fan here. I think you should be looking at your managers/tactics. Downing showed in his last season with us that he is a very good PL player. If you can't get the best out of him then that is down to your club as far as I keen see and not Downing. Ditto Henderson.

I watched Saturday's game and thought Downing would have done a better job in an offensive position than Joe Cole and the great Stevie Gee for whom injuries and age are now beginning to take their toll.

Middlesbrough and Aston Villa will make bids 4 sure.I suppose that the club have to take a big loss to justify a bid at all.90 millions on 5 players without any impact on the team what so ever.Kenny was a great player but as a manager he packed the squad with useless players and left the club falling down with his tale between the legs.Everybody talk about the great impact he had.Players tied down to large contracts with no talent to fulfill our great clubs ambition and the former managers willingness to use transfer budgets for years.Oh yeah Mr.Dalglish had great impact and the club will regret his appointment for years 4 sure.

  101. You sound bitter and twisted it was just a joke. You seem obsessed with hard men you must really enjoy the Internet.lol

    ReplyDelete
  102. I never said anything about great tactical acumen but the fact is he made changes for the better in those matches.
You highlighted a problem but what is your solution.Modification in style until we get better players.New formation, personnel change or tell the fullbacks to stop rampaging forward all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  103. the first step is to take underperforming players out of the firing line..allen and gerrard need to be dropped...cole needs his contract terminating ..if we are playing 4 33 this would be my line up johnson skirtel agger wisdom

lucas henderson suso enrique .suarez assadi ... now this is by no means a good team but we need to shake things up and players shouldnt take there place for granted ..at least with this formation if the fullbacks get forward there is some pace in the team to track back YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  104. Oh no, I said 'hard man' twice, that makes me obsessed(!) Saying it TWICE, qualifies for being seemingly obsessed? Considering some of your posts on this thread, you may not be able to help it but don't be stupid. You moan about others exaggerating, yet you do it yourself 'lol' Well done. If that is the kind of sh1t you also come out with in 'everyday life' as you say, than I pity you. Can't be ar$ed with you and your stupid attempts at being a silly internet warrior anymore.
