'That's disrespectful!' - Rodgers slams journo for Suarez/Gerrard suggestion...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has dismissed suggestions that the decision to rest Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Joe Allen for the Anzhi game earlier tonight ultimately contributed to the Reds 1-0 defeat.

In his post-match press conference, Rodgers lamented the defensive error that led to Lacina Traore's winning goal, but bristled at the suggestion that resting star players ultimately increased the possibility of defeat. He noted:

"It wasn't anything to do with Suarez, Gerrard, Allen, Agger or Skrtel not being here, and I think that's disrespectful to the players who are here. They have been magnificent and done really, really well tonight.

"We just got punished for a mistake in concentration and that led to us losing the game. The players that played did fantastically well. It was just one of those things, but we'll take it as a team. We're disappointed but there are positives from tonight"

Given the paucity of Liverpool's squad, I think Rodgers made the right decision to rest important players, and it's always good to see youngsters like Conor Coady and Jon Flanagan get much-needed European experience.

For me, the real issue is Rodgers gross overpraise for the players. Liverpool LOST the game, but he described the performance as 'magnificent', and said the players did 'fantastically well'.

Praising players in such gushing terms after a defeat sends the wrong psychological message IMO. If they were 'magnificent' in defeat, then where is the motivation to improve? It sends the message that losing is okay, and I just can't see how that is a good thing.

Undeserved overpraise is a major feature of Rodgers' reign so far. Watch any post-match press conference this season, and the words 'outstanding', 'magnificent', 'fantastic', and 'terrific' are invariably uttered, irrespective of the result.

For example, after the game against Newcastle last weekend, Rodgers described the performance as 'absolutely outstanding'. How can a home draw be 'absolutely outstanding'?

I doubt you'd hear Jose Mourinho or Alex Ferguson praising their players in such terms after a defeat/draw. Players need to feel that defeat is unacceptable, but Rodgers' constant ego massage arguably creates a situation where players don't fear losing as they know they'll be praised anyway.

It seems to me that Rodgers may have some kind of subconscious inferiority complex whereby he feels the need to constantly shower praise on his players to keep them onside.

I'm not suggesting he should criticise the team in public after draws/defeats, but clam down on the exaggerated praise already! For one thing, it irritates fans, especially when it's patently obvious that the performance was very far from 'outstanding'.

  1. yeah a home draw is shit but saying things like "not playing suarez/gerrard cost lfc the game" is beyond disrespectful to other players. but hey, it's them journos.

  2. Still, if this group is the future of LFC, I weep for the future. It may be an away game, but you still have to attempt to win those, and you can't with this group. Anzi wasn't that good. Would we have won with Suarez and Gerrard in? Can't say. Maybe not. But still, BR based on his player choices, seems to be content with middle of the tables in every tournament and league.

  3. Don't think it's psychologically wrong to praise the players. If he slated them, they'd lose their confidence and future performances could get worse. While we lost a game we could have taken something from, I thought we didn't do too badly, especially given that this was basically a reserve squad.

  4. When are you going guys going to accept the truth.......BR is out of his depth an a massive mistake

  5. Rodgers post match interviews sound like a recording, he says exactly the same after every game regardless if we win, lose, draw, play great or play badly.
I don't expect him to be critical of individuals but his gushing praise is becoming an embarrassment and you are right to point out that he needs to stop having this inferiority complex.

Its all well and good Rodgers basing his philosophy on "LFC will play the right way"but to me this is arrogant in the extreme.for a start we are a mediocre team, ok he wants us to step up a notch and be in the same mould as Swansea and Wigan but surely he cant do this overnight and results must improve before we get to their style of football. If the results are not being achieved then surely he shouldnt try emulate swansea and wigan which is his ultimate aim.I feel we are being conned, the yanks know we cant compete anymore so they are going with Rodgers hoping our style of football will appease the fans even though we havent got a chance of being a threat to the top 4 with it.Mourinho,Rafa and Capello 3 geniuses all drew negative praise for their style of football yet they were all winners,so if these 3 highly successful managers could only be successful without playing with flair then its obvious Rodgers and the yanks are happy in playing a pleasing on the eye game without any success

  11. Agreed, describing it as magnificent is way OTT.

Yes the youngsters got a decent run out, which is great, but ultimately we lost the game which is what it boils down to.

I don't agree with describing the players as doing fantastically well being psychologically damaging though, on the contrary I think its a clever and positive move by the manager. It boosts morale for the youngsters who played. Coady, Morgan, Flannagan will all get a boost from playing and hearing those words from the manager.

The players who need to be worried are the Downings, Hendersons and Joe Coles. They should be fighting to impress and make inroads to get into the first team, none of those aforementioned players did anything noteworthy.

I think you need to understand that teams can play 'magnificent, outstanding, and fantastically,' well, without getting the result they deserve. I'm not saying the team played anywhere near that standard tonight, but we did against Newcastle and Everton, where we were unlucky not to win both games - even the Man City game. Irrespective of all those results we played very, very well in each match. With a bigger squad, more striking options (and decent linesman!) we'd have taken three points in all those games.

  12. Maybe after we get completely and utterly THRASHED by Chelsea on sunday even more fans will wake up.
To lose to two little clubs with Billionaire Russian owners in 4 days - how low can we fall.

  13. Rodgers, Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh OUT! (says it all doesnt it).

    Rafa, Hyppia and Fowler IN!

  14. i suppose he has his reasons i.e to give players confidence but i agree jamie its too repetitive and players will start taking his comments with a pinch of salt! I Hope he is more realistic away from the camera. I dont have a problem with the team selection as Sunday is our priority and think based on the players used we did Well! I still expect us to qualify so no real damage done and good experience gained for the fringe players.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This is my first negative comment about Brendan rodgers but it has
been coming and it is now time to vent my opinion, i am all for
being patient but after we play crap and lose the last thing i want
to hear is the manager saying how great we played,do you think
shanks would talk like this ? the simple answer is no,because he called a spade a spade, and trying to bullshit the fans was never
an option for him,Watching rodgers on the fly-on-the wall being
liverpool really made me squirm and i found it really
embarrassing and his excuse was the documentary was planned
before his arrival, well that maybe so but i would have told
the americans to take a run and jump and refused to have
anything to do with this crap, but no not rodgers he seemed to
really love being in the lime-light,and defo seems to love
the sound of his own voice and maybe thinks he is a legend in
his own head,i am not happy when my team loses and
sometimes very angry when we dont play well, but mr rodgers
seems content to play ok but lose the game, well that is not
what i want in a liverpool manager,i want a leader who will
give it to the players who cant do the job, cole, enrique, henderson
downing etc, and i want a boss who will stand up to the owners
and demand the financial backing to buy the right players for
our beloved club or have the principles to walk away which i believe
any decent man would have done in the summer transfer debacle
I dont want to be lied to by the manager or the owners who for me
are not to be trusted and have lost my faith and trust in these owners and iam starting to lose my faith in brendan rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Maybe Rodgers just tries to instill faith in the players for them to play with more courage to make the transition to our new found style of play easiser ...

But on the other side, I could be wrong ...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Chelsea is next and a very important game. we must win this game. Anzhi was a foregone conclusion. It was expected looking at the team sheet.
Buck Rodgers better come up with a masterstroke if he wants to hold on to his job. possession football without results is useless.

  20. Well we haven't got a prayer of winning the league so we play our strongest team in our league games , rest our best players so they are fit to play in the games that lets be honest mean sweet FA to us , and yet we had a pretty good shot at the league cup home game v Swansea and all that , so we rest our best players for that one , then an away draw in Moscow would do us no harm , so we leave our best players in Liverpool , what's it all about , I mean we will play them in the last game against Udinese , and probably lose , if it wasn't so fucking crazy it would be funny , or if was some other team it would be funny . But then again what do I know , I don't even rate Lucas

  21. The IRWT brigade has obviously taken over here. Let me remind you about some things. While Rafa brought great success to our club, the football he has played (or let play) was, especially towards the end of his reign, very boring to watch. Defensive counter attacking football based on the pace of Torres. Bit like Houllier with Owen. Also Anfield had a revolving door when it came to transfers. For every Alonso there were three utterly poor players brought in and while he somehow managed to sell some of them on for a profit, there was never a settled squad. When rather poor players like Albert Riera want to leave because "this club is a sinking ship", then that says something about the ownership but also about the manager. Rafa is not the messiah. Be careful what you wish for. Loads of unrest at all levels of our club awaiting with Rafa at the helm. Think about it. There is a reason why no club goes near him. There were rather big jobs available, but he wasn't considered for any of them (Spurs, Chelsea, Barcelona to name a few).

  26. There are two points I want to make here. 1) Rogers has NO CHOICE but to give unwarranted praise to the team irrespective of results. After all HE'S the one who selects the side so if he was to be critical of the team, it will naturally follow that he is being critical of himself. 2) For those still crying for Rafa to return to Anfield just ask yourselves this - Why has there NOT been a single respectable club, anywhere in Europe, who wants to get involved with him after being out of the game for so long? It really sounds as if the impostor has been found out.

Doesn't look like I missed much if JK's highlights package is anything to go by. It would be interesting to see how many times Joe Cole has been on the winning side in a Liverpool shirt. I always fear the worst when he plays.

Oh well. We're a mid-table side now, who only seem capable of raising our game against the top sides. Which is why I say, "roll on Sunday".....

  30. Hi Jaimie, I have told you many times before that sacking Dalglish was a big mistake. I have also said to you that getting Rodgers in is even bigger. You said give time. Well, we are now beginning to see that this team and the manager is a downgrade from Dalglish's time.

    ReplyDelete
  31. With these sort of results: out of lge cup, doing poorly in BPL and europa cup, he would be sacked already if this were to be Roy Hodgson's time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think BR is disrespectful to Anzhi for putting in second stringers and young boys to play.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I disagree. Rodgers will get it right in time, he just needs to sign more players capable of playing how he wants to play. Getting rid of Kd was absolutely the right decision IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You have contradicted yourself. If BR was happy to be mid table, why would he rest his important players for this game? He is obviously thinking about the league with that decision. We can still top our group in Europe, so why not give the young guys a chance? Also, give Cole another chance to show he is good enough (although he proved otherwise with his performance today).

    ReplyDelete
  35. We will review this again at mid season. My view has not changed so far. That is, I disagree with the sacking of Dalglish and Rodgers has been a downgrade.

    ReplyDelete
  36. In the first place, why wasnt Dalglish given time to get it right? He wasnt half bad was he? His first half season he rescued the team right? Lge Cup and FA Cup final not enough? The Lge Cup may be the only season we will win in a long time to come. Pls treasure it. Team played well last season but couldnt score. So why not give him more time to get it right? By the same standard, BR should not be given more time than Dalglish to get it right. 1-1.5 seasons at most. In fact Roy was given only 1/2 a season.

    ReplyDelete
  37. At least Dalglish knows a good season depends on a good Cup run. He will put his better players to play. A good Cup run raises the morale of the players and the fans. Nvr underestimate yr Cup opponents and the effect the Cup matches have on the team.

I must admit You Ant. Your one shameless creature, After all these yrs when it was told to ppl like you that in the yrs to come this would be our position if Rafa left.. You still talk jive about the man?

I clearly recall you wanting him out along with JK and look where we are now....

Exactly where those who supported Rafa said we'd be...

But as long as your happy that's what matters aye!

    ReplyDelete
  41. What choice does Rodgers have. With the current squad, he has to play the kids. kids will thrive on encouragement . that said, we should be plugging away on all competitions but alas we are in a position without the resources to compete.

    ReplyDelete
  42. rodgers is a great manager the only guy to blame for his shortfalls now is kenny leaving him with a below mediocre squad BR is picking up the pieces of the sorry mess he has gotten and although it is tough watching the team i love lose and draw i believe in BR more so than anyone else and believe he will bring back liverpool to glory

    ReplyDelete
  43. It is obvious to see that the 'pass and move' implemented does not work in the final third of the pitch. Yes, the team may be passing well but when it comes to the key passes, they flop.

Put it this way, all the ravings about the passing of the team haven't produced results, have we? A perfect example would be the Suarez goal against Newcastle, assisted by Enrique. Long ball, brilliant touch and a great goal - involved less than 5 touches?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the goals scored were mostly due to individual brilliance of Suarez. There is simply no fluidity in when it comes to the killer pass. That said, I hope come January the club goes on in the right direction by making the right signings. Too many mistakes in the past windows - even with incredible backings from the owners.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The squad is seriously lightweight and it's starting to show. We used to go out and buy experienced senior internationals, maxi, kuyt, bellamy leaving are 3 examples, may not set the world alight but proven at top level. Now we are playing too many youngsters or reserve players lacking in confidence in difficult European away ties. Should keep more of first team involved, the likes of skertel, agger, enrique, allen, sahin, sterling don't all need a rest. Our reserves aren't strong enough to win by themselves and too many defeats and drab draws sap confidence, BR trying to put a positive spin on it all the time by saying outstanding is wearing thin. Given the team played i thought they did OK, but BR needs to field stronger sides outside of PL. Its tough though for BR he has inherited worst liverpool squad from last 20 years, we need experienced reinforcements, strikers and attacking midfield who score goals.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Chelsea away isn't a very important game , win lose or draw it won't affect our season . Last night and last week ( v Swansea ) where very important games , " it's gonna take a while " is what the man said . So why not try to win a cup , any cup along the way , blood / try the youngsters in league games they don't matter so much right now do they ? I'm not saying lets be a cup team , but it makes more sense than what we are doing .

    ReplyDelete
  46. Seeing too many negative comments about a game that was away from home. Not to mention we have to play young boys at home next game, while Anzhi and Udinese have to battle it out. We can still top the group. So wheres the spilt milk? I'd rather have Liverpool playing competitive to very end of the group, keep the players sharp and competitive. I hate it when Liverpool play meaningless games, because they have "secured" top spot. Its all about having a winning mentality for every game, we lost today, but it was a young team, all it means is next time round we have to bring it which im sure Liverpool will do at Anfield. So support the team!!!

Whats wrong with having one eye on the Chelsea game. Chelsea are on bad form. And having a fully vamped Suarez and Gerrard will do a world of good.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I tend to disagree. BR is tasked by FSG to qualify for Europe. And he is going to be
judged by where we finish on the table come May.

    ReplyDelete
  48. (1) Agree with Jaimie that praising performance and players after losing a match is just plain wrong. Dalglish used to the same, saying the team played "fantastically well", and back then I said it was wrong too.

    (2) The match showed how premature all the hype from the club and many of the supporters about our young offensive players is. And it's not about the result, but the way we played. There was no final pass, no interchanges, no correct positioning in the box. The FSG and Rodgers wanting to build a team from youngsters is all good, but you need to either have the academy like that of Ajax, or reserve system which supports development of brought-in talents. We currently have neither. I can still recall Benitez criticizing the academy/reserve system in England, and every time I see 70-80% of the youngsters raised there, that criticism seems totally justified.

    ReplyDelete
  49. We're a quarter of the way through the season and listen to you. Give the guy a chance eh and the owners. When I heard the questions being asked by the so called journalist last night I cringed and if I were Rodgers I'd have told him to do one. There's no way fergie would have been asked the same so I don't blame Rodgers for twisting it to the same answer he always gives. You can definitely see that we're playing better and come January with a couple of strikers we'll climb the league. Personally wouldn't mind being knocked out of the Europa cup. Too many games and on the wrong days.

    ReplyDelete
  50. you cannot blame kd now rodgers has had 30 million and sent the team backwards he his going to end up sacked sooner or later imo the sooner the better

  52. No one can win when it comes to the press. If he had played them, they would be saying Liverpool are relying to much on them. Then when he rests them, its their fault they dont win...

Really starting to get bored of football now. Always the same thing. Im fed up of poor refereeing decisions. Im fed up of UEFA and FIFA and the FA not taking any action with regards to goal line tech, clamping down on diving etc... and im fed of the media bangning on about the same rubbish all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  53. and how much time do we give him if we dont get european football next season we drop even further behind if kds results were not good enought last season plus cup win and fa cup final and hodgesons before him then he should be out worst results than roy hes breaking all the lfc records unfortunatly not the ones we want to break

    ReplyDelete
  54. i dont really see a problem with praising the team to the media after a loss even if it is over the top.
When i was living in australia it was rare to hear a coach over there put down a player in the press it is usually in private.
for all we know rogers may be doing just this, telling the press its all good and telling the players privately whats wrong.
Why does he have to tell the world who stuffed up or didnt play well.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dalglish won a cup and got to another final but was fired.
so i dont think BR has a choice

    ReplyDelete
  56. i would only blame BRENDON RODGERS if he can't find a way back to top 4 or even top 6 after end of 2013/14 season because really he is given weakened/mediocre squad to deal with so it'll take time unless he's given a squad like chelsea & owner like abrahomwich to splash the cash every season regardless of other aspects...we all can see a development is taking place under BR,he wants to play football way it is best but unfortunately he is don't experience/class players under his belt to turn his philosophy of football into victories on pitch, that's a shame.anyhow BR can't afford to do the same next season because a full season with LFC would be more than enough to assemble a good team with some recruitment of good players when owners are willing back his plans if it'll benefit sooner rather than later so i would like to say something for every LIVERPOOL die hard fans "we should be backing BR not criticizing for losses or draw"..meantime i would like to agree with 'Jamie k' for his point of view about BR's post match interviews since it's gives a negative frame of mind..

  58. playing better? Dont be fooled! Im behind Rodgers and its too early to judge him but to say we are playing better than this time last year is wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ok then why do we have to rest more than half of the " first " eleven . Surely if you wanna rest say Suarez , play Morgan up front in a solid first team , much better than with a bunch of lads who never play a competitive game together , what good does that do Adam Morgan , or if you wanna rest Gerrard , play Shelvey say in his role , what's the point of playing Coates alongside Carra surely it would be better for him to play alongside Skrtel or Agger lads he will play in the first team with if required or if one of them gets injured . Why do you have to rest half a dozen players at a time , and why play Joe Cole or even Henderson or Downing at all we've seen enough of them to know there no good , crap liabilities . Might be ok for other teams but how can we expect to win games with them players in the team after we've seen what they have done for us in the past , playing alongside young lads to boot . Waste of time . I actually think we could be on the right track , and we have played very well at times this season , been unlucky at times should of got more against both Manc sides for instance , but why give the young lads mountains to climb . Let them play along side first choice players not along side other young lads and has beens , or never has beens , or probably never will be's . Joe , Stewart , Jordan . Sorry boys but it's true , hopefully Henderson might improve but the other two , anyway that's getting off the point , the point is give the youngsters a fighting chance and give ourselves more of a chance of winning these games , it's not a bad habit to get into winning .

    ReplyDelete
  60. obviously we paid far too much for certain players but the fact is this time last year we had far better results with this "below mediocre" squad! This squad also got us to two cup finals. Yes we struggled in the league after Christmas but we know what happened re suarez etc. God knows what we would do now without suarez! Its not Kennys fault that our attacking options are so much weaker than last season and Brendan is fortunate that we have decent young players coming through that he has inherited.

  63. I reach for the puke bucket now every time I hear Rodgers speak.
Praise for outstanding perfomances, omg, he is talking to a fan base used to seeing outstanding performances in the days of Shankly and Paisley.
We are not stupid we can see it was not an outstanding performance, we are tired of back passes and side passes we want to see some exciting football and there are players in the squad capable of producing it, this manager was a mistake from day one and I said so on day one and I say it now. His overpraise of players is ridiculous and it doesnt take any fan two seconds to suss out playing a team with your best players left out is going to be a weaker team. Its disrepectful not to the players who played to say it was a weak team but to the fans who went to Moscow who paid all that dosh to watch a reserve team.
Out of the League Cup, touch and go whether the knock out stages of the Europa League are achieved and not looking like anything but a midtable team.
Rodgers was the same at Swansea after losing to Sunderland 2-0 he said it would of been a privilege for the Sunderland fans to have seen his style of play. He is so far up his own arse it is unbelievable.
His CV of achievements reads NOTHING of note except for promotion via the playoffs with a team Martinez built.
Quicker he goes the better, Roy went for achieving more than this in the short time he was here.

    ReplyDelete
  64. My fave bit of waffle from Rodgers is was while he was at Swansea:

"It is great for the public here at Sunderland to see us. They must have been wondering what this team everyone is talking about are all about, and now they have seen. We were wonderful."

This is AFTER losing 2-0 against Sunderland

He has achieived the sum total of nothing in his football career and that will continue this season as well.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Fergie has achieved huge thinks as a manager so they won't say that to him, Rodgers has achieved nothing so they will because he is a cocky little so and so up his own arse.

We're definitely looking better than the first half of last season neiljamesonhall do you not remember where we were this time last season? Jason what I want out of this season is to improve in the league and in all honesty if that means being knocked out of Europe then so be it. That really doesn't mean as you say that I've "set my standards at rock bottom" I just take a different view than you as to what should be our priority. My opinion and I'm entitled to it as are you to yours.

All we're lacking is penetration through the middle and the instant we get that alongside the likes of Suarez, Sterling Assaidi and Suso - look out. We need a gutsy striker to lift the team - a team that is playing well regardless of results. This is a training exercise & YOU'll NEVER WALK ALONE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Probably around 7 full internationals in the starting line up yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Fergie and Maureen would have every right to slate their team for such a display, because they have quality right through the squad. We have chucked in young players and those who are ready for a glue factory against an oligarchs army and you know what, they lost by 1 goal! All this bloodletting is ridiculous. WE JUST DONT HAVE THE PLAYERS! Shelvey is talented but sometimes i want to boot the tv when he gives it away or produces shite like the free kick at the end. Henderson abdicates responsibility at every turn. The 1 on 1 he had where he cut it back showed even he doesnt think he's got it. Suso looks good, coady was solid. But Rodgers is simply seeing who can cut it and who can't, next summer he will have brought in and got rid, then maybe we can see a bit of progress, up until then we will have to be a midtable side who hopes for a good cup run

    ReplyDelete
  75. You couldn't be more right. But you shouldn't be writing here - you obviously have a grasp of reality.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Agreed. If it weren't for Suarez, the problems we have in the last third would be so much more obvious. This pass-n-move style of Rodgers is far from being polished, very far. We still have no 'team' answers in the last third, i.e., there is no real unity when it comes to carving the opposition open in the last third, which is key for a such a pass-n-move style. Rely far too heavily on individual moments, especially from Suarez. Up to the last third, we are fine but that is relatively easy anyway, once we get into the last third we haven't got a clue as what to do as a unit in creating chances. Against Newcastle, we did our usual pass-n-move style in the first half but created almost nothing. In the second half, we were more direct as well as looking out for counter opportunities, instead of solely relying on our usual pass-n-move, and it was making a difference. Good to see Rodgers deviate somewhat from Plan A a bit but it is also worrying that we have big problems in the last third with plan A. Somewhat early days but its a problem that needs fixing asap.

Another issue for me is that Suso is simply not ready, regardless of what position he plays. The boy is talented, very but is nowhere near ready to be playing as much as he has done in PL. He'll show up in bits here and there, that is it as his overall presence is lacking, very. It is like playing with 10 men at times in the second half of games, as he disappears. Nowhere to be seen in the second half (before he got subbed) against Newcastle, nowhere. He is a puppy still and I just think he is simply is nowhere near ready, regardless of his obvious talent and the lack of options in the squad. Maybe he might do better with Johnson at right back. Without Johnson's attacking width, that right flank has been too handicapped. Sterling can carry the left flank threat, regardless of which full back is behind him but without Johnson on the right, especially with the inexperienced Suso, we lose a lot of potency and presence on the right.

  77. yes i remember were we were this time last season in the quater final of the league cup and a lot higher in the league so were on the up thinks not

    ReplyDelete
  78. except its not pleasing on the eye lol

    ReplyDelete
  79. you have i havent whilst iam 100% behind the club ive said from day 1 rodgers will fail at lfc and ive seen nothing to change my mind the results and manner we have played in just cement my opinion of mr ego whilst players will not come out and say it they must be wondering what the fu3k is going on they will be big changes in the transfer window every decent player we have will want out and who can blame them still as long as fsg make a tidy profit thats all that counts i said at the start of the season we would not see much of our beloved owners this year and i am being proven right on this as well they know that there will not be a warm welcome for them and rodgers is on a tightrope

    ReplyDelete
  80. rodgers iis priceless ive never known a lfc manager come across as such a complete fool he makes hodgeson sound interesting

    ReplyDelete
  81. ditto the mans lost the plot 3rd time lucky on my post

    ReplyDelete
  82. firstly everyone needs to wake up and smell the coffee, br is a nice guy, a nice guy for a club who is going to end up mid table, all the ones that are saying leave him alone give him a chance, will you be still saying that at the end of the season when we wont have even qualified for the europa league , oh i forgot also in january we will get in a few strikers, get real we had a quality striker who apparently did not fit in to rodgers plans, but his words not mine you make a 35mill £ player fit in to your plans. So the owners should say to br get carroll back. BR wont be sacked he needs some one within the club to tell him to throw the towel in now before he does get sacked then it will look as if it was done in resignation manner, that saves him getting altogether a bad name, it will be a case of BR really tried but it never worked out , may be it was to soon for him.Anyway nothing will be achieved until MOURINHIO takes over LFC.

  83. even Jagielka said last week we dont believe in keeping the ball for half an hour.

    ReplyDelete
  84. While I agree with you that KD had run his course and appointing someone else was what the club needed, I worry about Rodgers decision making.
I was worried when we were approaching a transfer window under KD because of his decision making over players we should buy because according to Commolli after he was sacked, KD felt it was better to get Downing for a little bit more than had been agreed for Mata who had a release clause of £16million before that jumped to £25mln at the end of July 2011.
Now Rodgers on the other hand only ever gets linked to players he has previously worked with and the list is made up of Joe Allen and Fabio Borini who have actually joined Liverpool while the potentials are Sturidge, Dorus Der Vries, Di Santo and a Swansea defender called Williams I think who was tipped to replace Agger.
Just to emphasise the point, in the summer Rodgers spent £25mln on players who had prviously worked under him and less than £4mln on players new to him(Assaidi and Yesil).
If he had managed a top level side and was getting players from them that would be fine but the highest level for him was Swansea before Liverpool. His Chelsea link is from sometime ago and most of the players he worked with never really made it to the Chelsea first team hence this link only lures Chelsea rejects.

  85. Shankly probably would have called a spade a spade, but please remember when slating/criticising Rodgers that one Kenneth Dalglish told the world that Downing was better than he had thought and many Liverpool supporters wanted him to remain our manager for longer than he actually did. If Dalglish is allowed to make silly comments, so should Rodgers be.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Well, that happens when you spent 20m on Downing, 35m on Carroll, 16m on Henderson and give Cole a 90k per week contract. Currently our hands are somewhat tied due to mistakes made in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  87. This time last year we were all wondering how Downing and Henderson start almost every match ahead of Kuyt and Maxi. Those two players may still be with us if they weren't left to rot on the bench last season and how we could do with some experience at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  88. To be honest, I don't think 15m for Allen is money wasted, especially if your former manager has spent 20m on Downing and 35m on Carroll. All depends on the perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  89. who got rid of these players rodgers could have talked to then and changed there minds or maybe they thought lets get out of this circus they have finally hired a clown if you listen to the man speak there is no wonder they left he talks crap and his full of himself

    ReplyDelete
  90. If you want unrest at all levels of our club, then you may be right. Rafa will continue thinking that he actually owns the club (while he owns only a section of our fans). He behaved like that in his last three jobs and is such highly thought off in the game that he is out of work for two years now. Think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Our current squad plus experienced pros like Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy was in relegation form half of last season. Take away the experienced players and folks like you expect to improve. Oh dear!

    ReplyDelete
  92. exactly we did overpay and as a result had a lower transfer kitty hopefully that will change in january but u know what does not change atm henderson, downing, adam, carrol, enrique are horrific and the loss of kuyt and maxi have set us backwards if its not kennys fault then i don't know whose fault it is

    ReplyDelete
  93. You said from day one that Rodgers will fail hence you do everything you can to undermine him. Guess you'll be the first at Anfield to boo whilst he is in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  94. hope the play is still on sunday will try and get a ticket hope fully it starts about 4 pm !!

    ReplyDelete
  95. and the fans who spent good money on flights visas hotels etc to watch that. now that is what i would call disrespectful

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yes, it was plain to see that we were regressing while Rafa was still here. He's done a lot of great things in his early career at our club, but unfortunately he has somehow lost the plot later. Some people only want to see the positive things he has done and he has a section of our fans in his pocket. People who support one man rather than the club. Funny that apart from them only supporters of rival clubs like ManU and Everton want him back at our club.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Frank, I've told the supporters of Rafa F.C. for quite some time that he's been out of job for a reason, but they won't listen. They will ask for him being re-installed our manager until he eventually dies in 30 or 40 years. We better star learning to ignore those uncalled for call.

    ReplyDelete
  98. And I have told that giving Kenny the job full-time is a mistake. Given how much money he has spent on what kind of players and the form in the second half of last season, I was right. He also alienated our more experienced players who all consequently left and who we really miss at times. So, our squad is thinner and a lot more inexperienced. How come you can figure out that Rodgers is a down-grade from Dalglish?

    ReplyDelete
  99. With a squad as thin a ours our better players would badly suffer from fatigue due to those cup runs. Please recall the second half of last season. Good cup runs, but relegation form in the league. Is that what you want. Relegation for the sake of a cup final.

    ReplyDelete
  100. He persisted with playing his big-money signings while at the same time alienating players of better quality by leaving them our of the team. Our league form in the second half of the season was so bad that we nearly would have been relegated had the season started at Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Until he has had as much money to spend as Dalglish.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Probably for Anzhi, eh. While some of the players who started for us have some caps for their respective countries, most of them are former internationals (Carra, Downing, Cole) or lads with just a hand-full of caps, up and coming internationals (Shelvey, Henderson, Coates). Jones isn't exactly Australia's first choice keeper either. How many internationals have started for Anzhi?

    ReplyDelete
  103. best tell Fowler to bring his boots with him

    ReplyDelete
  104. The managers only as good as the players he has at his disposal. Two of those players Downing & Henderson have failed to deliver on just about everything. Downing has scored a couple of goals,Henderson runs about like a headless chicken, they are just not good enough. I want my beloved team to be able to challenge at the top and compete to the full in all competitions. Brendan Rodgers seem`s to be the right man to get us to the top,so give him a real chance and get behind him. All managers make mistakes don`t they? Give the guy time and proper funds to recruit the players he wants not solely the players he has inherited. I do think the one big mistake he has made so far was allowing Andy Carrol to leave, the guy will come good and oh how we could use him just now.

    ReplyDelete
  105. How long does it take to blend a squad of players into a team that can create more than 2 chances in a game of 94 minutes? we may not have international players throughout the squad, but come on! we can't score even if the senior players were playing last night,(apart from maybe Suarez) I also believe Kenny given another season would have improved our league position, he may have been stubborn but he believed he was doing the best job he could, I am losing faith in Rodgers, the way he has treated Carroll was appalling, and to send him out with no replacement is the sign of a poor manager, i'm not a blind faith fan anymore, i want to see us playing attacking football, even if it costs us a few games, not tippy tappy sideway's and backwards, do you think if United sent their young players they would have lost or performed like that?

    ReplyDelete
  106. I rather watch benitez s boring football than watching BR who knows nothing about leading as big club as lfc is

    ReplyDelete
  107. well the way fsg spend it that could be 50 years you are full of it give me a rest now

    ReplyDelete
  108. I want Rodgers to get it right. I wanted Kenny to as well. I wanted Rafa reinstated as Manager too. The truth is we want to see is a team heading in the right direction at a reasonable pace. The Hicks/Gillett era may have gone but we didn't get a quick fix with last year's signings and now we are saddled with players Rodgers doesn't want. It's going to be a slow process and the difficulty will be getting quality players who are ready to play now. There is a lot of potential in the youth but potential isn't always realised. The task is huge and this year is probably going to be simply one of assessment of the strength of the potential in the club with efforts to shift on the highly paid players who won't get game time. Rodgers is entitled to put on the clothes of the great Liverpool Managers, he has the job, but it is how he fills them over time that is key. Love him or hate him Rodgers is respected in the game. He is a modern manager and a student of the game. We have had too much turmoil in the club, too much public talking, too many under-achieving players and no patience. It is going to be a difficult task to put things right and it will be hard to watch. I just think we need to get behind the club and keep the criticism to ourselves. There will be enough detractors of the club outside the club.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I completely agree. We're not winning games, and the manager can't stop singing praise. This is Liverpool FC not swansea or the chelsea youth team.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Downing is left-footed and England aren't blessed with left footed wingers, sadly that alone is enough for him NOT to be totally written for England call ups! ;)

My comment was more in relation to the 'young squad' bit of the initial post. Squad was mostly young but the team itself wasn't that young, most of the players were in their 20s or 30s. The older lot are simply mediocre squad players that Rodgers barely has any faith in. Sorry state of affairs, the squad.

Anzhi probably had a similar no. of international players, if not more, with the Africans, Uzbeki & Russians, maybe one of the South Americans

    ReplyDelete
  111. we dont have the squad to compete in this comp so the sooner were out the better, less games for our minature squad the better, even if we won it we wouldnt get any respect for it, just like carling cup but a bit better.
he could let the u17"s play in it for all i care, good for them though.
the buck lies with the owners, laughable summer of transfers, and jan will be no different

    ReplyDelete
  112. kuyt actually said that he left because of dalglish read from somewhere im sure

    ReplyDelete
  113. Is this a call for the return of Rafa?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Its unlikely that what he says in public is also whats said in the dressing room or training ground. I think its pointless reading too much into what's said in these interviews, which are pretty much just a formality.

    ReplyDelete
  115. i think you need to check the results we had at this stage last season ie won at arsenal Chelsea and everton and the much better league position we were in!

    ReplyDelete
  116. because it is not kenny who has left us so short of attacking options this season!

    ReplyDelete
  117. What a crock - wait and see! The transfer window is lurking and he'l buy "The tools to do (the fucking) job". You have no faith nor vision.

All we need is one piece in the jigsaw - PENETRATION THROUGH THE MIDDLE AND HE'L FIND IT. Huntelaar's the key and the rest of the young team are the deadlock already in place for success.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Fantastico-Galactico3:18 am, November 10, 2012

The reason they want him back in the club is because they want some compition and rivalry of there is now none!
My non-LFC mates don't actually even bother laughing at our dire placement anymore they take pity
Did Rafa lose the plot when We finished 2nd in the league?
Maybe it was when he Got us into Champions League 4 outta 6 occasions?

You must be talking about his final season when we finished 7th right? Lol
    You haven't got a clue!

    ReplyDelete
  119. shame about this season then ok i no we will let him have another go next season and he can fuck that up by xmas as well

    ReplyDelete
  120. the 1st think not its already started the crowd is already turning why do you think the atmosphere is so flat a lpt of fans have had enought already read the comments more and more are calling for rodgers to go every day a bit like you did for rafa

    ReplyDelete
  121. so was the first to boo when did it start after carling cup win or fa cup final loss you pulled me in a post for saying the same thing about rodgers you are nothing but a hypocrit

    ReplyDelete
  122. i dont understand but ..................ok

    ReplyDelete
  123. You are calling me a hypocrite? That's a compliment then. I didn't publicly criticize him right from the off, unlike what you are doing with our current manager. Kenny was my idol in my youth, but he is quite an old man now and had been out of business for quite some time. It's pretty obvious that some people think hiring him was the right move to build for the future. I think hiring a young manager is the right move to build for the future. By the way, from all the negative stuff you post about us it becomes pretty obvious that you hate LFC quite a lot. My question is, why do you even bother coming on websites that are basically about LFC, posting stuff like "you are beyond contempt" as soon as you'd start repeating yourself with your negative comments. Usually I welcome comments from rival fans, as long as they are constructive. The stuff you write is plain negative. Do you feed from that negativity? Just a question so please don't get a fit.

    ReplyDelete
  124. The atmosphere has been quite flat for some time now. Interesting that you notice it only now.

I actually didn't call for Rafa's head in his first few years at our club. Why do you have to make things up to suit your argument?

    ReplyDelete
  125. When we finished 2nd we should actually have won the league, but memory fails some on that topic. He literally surrendered first spot. I won't tell you when I first thought that he had lost the plot as I don't think you'd want to understand my argument and maybe you wouldn't or wouldn't want to remember the incidents. But do you see the difference in our comments? You attacked me personally while I tried to avoid denigrating you personally.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Jason at his best again. You don't like what someone writes and therefore insult him. How you don't get banned on here is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Do you really believe all that yourself? I mean, blaming Rodgers for everything. What did that man do to you? You seem to be on some kind of vendetta.
