Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has his eye on Reading defender Alex Pearce as a potential long-term replacement for Anfield stalwart Jamie Carragher.
Contract talks between Pearce and Rodgers' former club have stalled, and with the 23 year old's contract set to expire in Summer 2013, the possibility of a move away looks increasingly likely.
The Royals may be forced to cash-in during the January transfer window or risk losing Pearce for nothing in the Summer. Reading boss Brian McDermott told the Reading Chronicle:
"We spoke to Alex yesterday (Wednesday) so it's between him and the club now.
"I hope Alex stays and I would like him to sign, but January is approaching and if he hasn't signed we will see where we are."
£4m-rated Pearce was named Reading's player of the year during the 2011-12 Championship winning season, but he's no longer an automatic starter for the club, which perhaps explains why he's stalling on signing a new deal.
Pearce had not missed a minute of league football for Reading for more than a year before being droppe, but he's been benched for the last seven games, which suggests he's being punished for refusing to sign a new deal.
During his time at Reading, Rodgers made Pearce his vice-captain, which shows he has a lot of faith in the player.

Don't know too much about this player but looks decent.
ReplyDeleteHe is pretty decent on the ball and maybe worth a punt????, or get him on a free in tthe summer!!!
ReplyDeletefor 4mil take him. The Europa league is taking it's toll on players. we seriously need backup in all departments. go for it buck
ReplyDeleteHe got the moves like Carra :)
ReplyDeleteHe have good scale passing and defending, especialy on the air ball.He also able or assist score the goal. Please sign him....alternative option Mats Hummell,Mehdi Benatia and Mamadou Sakho.
ReplyDeletejust what we need Brendon a defender NOT - get 3 strikers all goalscorers, we are fed up of taking positives from losing, one goal is worth a thousand passes.
ReplyDeletethis is pretty much nailed on by most accounts, and a good understudy for the first choice pair, and replacement for carra.
ReplyDeleteShould be cheap as chips and already know BR's style.
Bargains and low risk signings..the forseeable future for LFC.
My football knowledge does not stretch to who the Reading reserve centre half is.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of telextext. Liverpool to sign ACE(transfer windown long shut too) , ring some number at £ 5.00 a minute. Everyone was called an ace like they are called a legend on this website, when you get through you have to hang on and run up a twenty quid bill, only to be told the player in question is the Scunthorpe 15 year old reserve right back.
another one of rodgers croonies he cannot have been that good last time under rodgers didnt he get sacked after half a season
ReplyDeleteAnyone know how well Wilson is doing on loan?
ReplyDeleteon a different note the anfield crowd seems very muted lately
ReplyDeleteReading Reserves, hope he is a good back passer
ReplyDeleteReading season ticket holder... Good player but severe lack of pace lets him down.
ReplyDeleteIt sure does that's why the away fans are singing "where's your famous atmosphere" We need to send goosebumps down our opponents and help our team get the results at Anfield with our famous 12th man
ReplyDeleterodgers is draining the life out of the club ive never heard it so subdued
ReplyDeleteChange of subject, congratulations to Leon Osman for getting into the England squad, his father is known to me and he is a nice bloke, a great one club player who gives everything for his cause (albeit a Blue one), there are far better players about than him but far worse have played for England, Henderson, Downing, Rodwell, Sturridge and Kevin Davies to name 5.
ReplyDeleteI hope this is not true. The amount of defenders we have at the club including the youngsters that are making their breakthrough. If we start signing players of the calibre of Pearce then we can kiss good by to any Champions League hopes. Really disappointed with some of the names I'm seeing linked with the club. Although Rodgers has good intentions for the club, I think he has made a huge mistake letting so much experience leave in the summer without adequately replacing it. No offence to the Coady's and Morgan's (both who I think could be squad players in a couple of years) but they shouldn't be in a position where they are playing from the start in cup games. They have no experience and would struggle to get in championship sides at the moment. It's vital we buy quality experience, not Reading's third choice centre-back and start to take some pressure off the young players.
ReplyDeleteSo he'd be the ideal replacement for Carragher.
ReplyDeleteHe isn't on loan somewhere, is he. Thought I saw him in the pictures showing the preparation for our last match on the official site.
ReplyDeleteAnfield has been pretty quite for some time now. Always great atmosphere against the bigger clubs and usually on European nights, but apart from that we are out-sung by the travelling supporters on a regular basis. But maybe you are right and it's getting even more silent recently.
ReplyDeletesays a lot about a new manager galvanising the fans not
ReplyDeleteI thought he was on loan at Blackpool still????
ReplyDeleteha ha ha nice one..
ReplyDeletetrue that
ReplyDeletemaybe buy him ,buy that balkan cryft (djuricic),then the finish goalscorer (18 yrs) buy martinez the porto goalscorer and a new goalkeeper to replace pepe.all these deals cost maybe 37 m.which we can raise buy selling stew for 8m ,hendo for 8m,cole for 4m,pepe for 10m
ReplyDeletei suppose you would have said no to bale, lescott, baines, shawcross, cahill? they were all young once!
ReplyDeleteCant believe we spent £8m on Coates. Wasn't he supposed to be our next star centre back?! Besides that screamer of a goal last season, he's looked dodgy for both club and country, but that could be down to not getting a consistent run.
ReplyDeleteKelly and Wisdom have the potential to be real quality in that position, but with our current full back situation, it looks like they'll be playing at right back until cover for Johnson is bought, and a couple of left backs!
DANIEL STURRIDGE can be very selfish but doesn't deserve to be on the crap 5 list he's better than everyone you mentioned including LEON OSMAN.
ReplyDeleteAlex is a soldge. Buy now talk later!
ReplyDeleteK. Ta for report. Good lad. Top man. Still want him.
ReplyDeleteAre you being a sarcastic little retard??? In his day monkey boy. In the words of Rapha Benitez.... Qual - ity and you know it. A Young Jamie Carragher with fresh legs - sounds good to me. Buy now - talk later.
ReplyDeleteAnyway f... all this S... Classic examples of strength in unity at our club regardless of whether it's right and wrong was JonJo Shelvys finger-pointing at Fergi and Suarez's fake diving at the feet of Moyes. I don't give a f... about anything less to be honest. I may be p..... & on a tangent but as Liverpool Fans we all know it to be true - You'll Never Walk Alone!
ReplyDeleteNo, he isn't. He even was amongst our subs against Anzhi.
ReplyDeleteSays a lot about the nature of todays fans, too. 'We want instant success'. Many people nowadays want everything in an instant, in all walks of live. Sad that.
ReplyDeleteAh ok. Seems I got confused with last season's loan spell, never mind.
