The Agent of PSV Eindhoven star Kevin Strootman has confirmed that the the classy defensive midfielder - linked with LFC and Manchester United in the past - is set to leave Holland in the January transfer window.
Speaking to Reporters last night, Chiel Dekker - Strootman's Agent - said:
"Strootman has had a good time in Eindhoven, but he decided that he wants to prove himself in a better league.
"If an agreement is able to be reached with a potentially interested club, PSV will allow Kevin to leave in January"
Liverpool have been linked with Strootman in the past, and November 2011, Kenny Dalglish even sent Steve Clarke along to scout the player during Holland's 3-0 defeat to Germany.
With Lucas Leiva's continuing injury problems, the club arguably needs another dedicated defensive midfielder, and the Strootman would certainly fit the bill. The Brazilian is an excellent player for Liverpool, but if he continues to suffer injury problems, Liverpool will needed a replacement.
The press has Strootman's value at £15m, but that seems optimistic for a 22-year old who's never played outside Holland. Looking at transfer fees for similar players over the last two years, I sincerely doubt that any club would pay more than £10m-£12m for the player at this stage.
Worth a bid in January?

Good player but I don't think we need him as such. Would rather concentrate on getting a quality striker and a left back. By the way, what a wonderful performance yesterday by the boys! Made me proud, I was worried but was proved wrong. We must play Sahin, Gerrard and Allen in a 3 man midfield on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThe very first player we need to sign in January is a striker. No waiting til the end of the month and no messing about waiting to try and get the price down. Get a striker in first and if we have any money left then we can look at other options. Lucas's injury problems are a concern but Joe Allen seems to be playing that position at the moment and doing very well, so I would say spending that sort of money on someone who probably wouldn't start if everyone was fit would in my opinion be a mistake..
ReplyDeleteIs the "LFC target" coming from Kenny Daglish's time???? Given the treatment/disdain that Rodgers has for Kenny's choices is there any realistic chance he is a current target?
ReplyDeleteI agree. A striker, left back and an extra winger. But striker should be main priority.
ReplyDeletePurely footballing reasons. Kenny wasted money on average players who did not perform at all last season... therefore BR did what any manager would do and put his blueprint on the squad. Hendo, Adam, Carroll and Downing are nowhere near good enough therefore BR is trying to rectify the squad.
ReplyDeleteBut I don' think we need another midfielder and for £15M is way too much for this player. I
Another 'controversial' headline to grab views. This site used to have interesting, if misguided, content. Now it's just the Daily Mail lite
ReplyDeleteStriker, Striker, Striker :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed on all counts. Bring on the young ones. there is nothing to lose but all to gain. It is not like we can win the PL. So why not give the boys a run in.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of him to be honest, and, according to the information I can find on the web, he's not a defensive midfielder. If we were to buy a DM, I'd go for Yann M'Vila.
ReplyDeleteAh, don't remind us. One just has to look at yesterdays performances of 3m Assaidi and 20m Downing.
ReplyDeleteIf Dalglish was interested in him I think we should look elsewhere
ReplyDeleteKevin Strootman and Yann M'villa is good candidates to replace for Lucas Leiva who only have small size fizikal for Defensive Midfielder. He cannot give tough tackle because too small size. But very important is WE NEED NEW STRIKERS to reduce burden for Luis Suarez score the goal.David Teixera, Sidney Sam and Mario Gotze maybe very best name to sign for LFC if we cannot get big names stars as Gonzalo Higuin,Endisson Cavani or Radamel Falcao. For Ricardo Quaresma better never to sign him.Do not to predudice your future with reject or flop stars like him.
ReplyDeleteWhy you say 'replace lucas?'?? Why not, 'help strengthen the liverpool team'??? My mind boggles when you use the word 'replace'. It comes across as a derogatory term when you say it. You can argue that its not derogatory but it sounds like you want Lucas replaced. Do you?
ReplyDeleteThat is your interpretation based on your own views. You are creating the negative here, not me. Read the article: it praises Lucas, and explains why I used the word replace.
ReplyDeleteIf a player is injured he is 'replaced' in the team, is he not. In Lucas's case, if he continues to get injuries, and or even can't get back into the team for whatever reason, he will be replaced.
I do not want Lucas replaced. I've always supported him and still do.
Who cares when u have a player like Suso! A defensive midfielder is the last thing we need to worry about. We need... A FRIGGING STRIKER!!!
ReplyDeleteHow to contradict yourself 101
ReplyDeletealso, are we still within a chance of getting Moussa Sissoko from Toulose, as well?
ReplyDeleteIs David Villa really heading to Anfield. If so its yeah time because Suarez-Villa partnership will destroy their oppnonents.
