Agent tells Clubs: La Liga goal-machine will cost 'around €100m'. Swap Suarez...?

Last month, Anfield Legend Jan Molby argued that Liverpool should try and sign prolific Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao. As enticing as that sounds, the Dane is quite clearly a fantasist, and given the events of the last week, there's probably more chance of Billy Liddell coming back from the dead and playing for LFC than Falcao donning the red shirt. Even if the Reds were interested, there's no way the club would be able to afford the Columbian, especially given his ridiculous price tag.

Speaking to Colombian Reporters on Monday, Falcao's father and Agent said:

"I know for a fact one Russian club was extremely interested in him [during the transfer window], while an English team were also sniffing around. Right now, I'd put Falcao's price tag as around €100 million"

€100m?! That's wishful thinking in the extreme, but given Falcao's consistently brilliant goal record, the transfer fee probably wouldn't be far off that.

Falcao - nicknamed 'El Tigre' - has a fantastic goalscoring record over the last few years:

* 62 goals/6 assists in 77 games for Porto (2009-2011)
* Last season: 36 goals/5 assists in 47 games for Atletico Madrid.

In a recent interview, Falcao - who tore Chelsea apart with a stunning hat-trick in the Super Cup recently - reaffirmed his commitment to Madrid:

"The fact is that I signed a four-year contract with Atletico. That is the reality and not the rumours in the papers. I arrived intending to be here for a long time and it is my dream to be remembered by the fans for helping them to celebrate titles"

At this stage, Liverpool clearly have zero chance of signing him. However, if the club qualifies for the Champions League, how about a cash-plus Luis Suarez deal? If that was a possibility, I would snap it up in New York minute. Suarez is probably valued around the €25-€30m mark; add on €15-€20m and that's a very enticing and affordable proposition IMO.

  2. As things stand right now he will be retired as soon as we are back in the Champions League, as sad as it is.

  3. I wud do it. Falcao is a complete striker unlike Suarez

  4. Find another player we couldn't afford him anyway since we are under PSG

  7. To qualify for the Champions League, the team that finished in 4th place in the EPL for the last 5 seasons has had to score a minimum of 66 league goals.

Last season, Liverpool scored 44 league goals.

If we somehow qualify for next season's Champions League, then you'd have to suspect that the majority of these hypothetical goals are going to be scored by one of our 2 strikers, more than likely by our one senior striker.

So, considering he bagged 11 league goals last season - a quarter of ALL our league goals scored last season - then Luis will have to bag at least 30 league goals alone this season (considering the goalscorers who have left the club and the likely lack of goals from any other position) in order for us to reach that magical 65 mark.

And if he somehow manages to do THAT, then why would we bother selling him - and splashing 20 million quid ON TOP OF THAT mind you - for a player who would more than likely go to a club that could actually pay his f***ing wages?

Seriously J-Bomb. And you call Jan Molby a 'fantasist'?

  8. What a waste of time to even think about Falcao!
We can't buy Dempsey and talking about Falcao....

  9. There is more chance of everton signing falcao than us. no chance! FSG have already trimmed the budget so the cap is now in place, buisness and profit will be good over the next 5 yrs for FSG as they have ties uo some good 5yr investments, if they keep the contracts and wages low they will have a tidy profit over the 5yrs and be able to sell the club for a profit also. Amazing bit of buisness

  11. Yes - LS for all his skill, reminds me of a headless chicken a lot. He can twist and turn players all over the place, but it seems to have no purpose. It don`t matter how amazing you are at "the tricks" if your playing up front you have only one real target, and that is to score. LS doesn`t do that enough.

  12. let's be realistic here we're struggling for owen or heskey for christ sake!!!!!!!!!

  13. It is not Luis Suarez fault he is being played as a striker. At Ajax and Uruguay he supports the centre forward on the wings and has scored loads of goals.
Everyone is saying Borini and Suarez need to swap positions - Lets hope Brendan Rodgers does that in the next game.

Encouraging to sell our best players is not the answer - The club needs to add quality to the likes of Suarez.

  18. As Liverpool are scouring through the free agent market to sign some washed up has been, signing Falcao is about as likely as me going to bed with Rhianna tonight.
Lets get real, after years of American rule from Tom and George and now Henry and Werner the club is in serious decline. My mother in law knows more about football than all of them put together and she knows naff all.

  19. JK do you honestly believe it would be THAT simple?? Thank god you're not our manager. Every week, no, day, you're on here suggesting we replace this player, or that player.

How would you ever get a settled squad with this policy?

How about supporting the club rather than playing out your football manager fantasies on here?

    ReplyDelete
  20. He clearly said "IF".

  21. You need some new material. The Football Manager thing is as old as the hills. For the record, the only 'football manager' game I've ever played was on the Commodore 64 in the 1980s. Video games are not my thing, and I've never played the current incarnation of FM.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, and yes, it is that simple: replace ineffective players with effective players. Job done. It doesn't happen overnight, of course; it's a gradual process, but Suarez has proved that he's not the striker we need, so why not replace him. There's no room for emotion or sentiment; he doesn't score or create enough goals for the team.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I see. So if I post stuff that fits your view of LFC you'll be happy, right? Sorry, I don't pander to the majority. In any event, I've already posted by views on FSG; why should I post something slagging them off when I don't think that? In my view, FSG are doing a great job at Liverpool.

  24. A to the Men. Even Berbatov would have been more clinical in front of goal. We should have gone for him.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I believe if we should keep suarez and like you said play him on the right side of the three like a kuyt role, and Jaimie do you think sterling can play in the middle like owen in his teens I think rodgers should give that a try with the passing ability of sahin and allen I believe they can do the right through balls for sterling or do you think owen was faster as a youngster.

  29. @ Jason Carr - You make a very good point, i didn't waste my time voting either....

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yesssss.... but by 'majority' in this context, you mean a sufficient amount to get us into the Champions League. He somehow might score more than Suarez, but I fear that this sadly says more about Suarez than it says about Borini.

If Borini bags the 30 odd goals necessary to get us into the Champions League next season, then we should arguably sell HIM in order to fund your optimistic Falcao-shaped bid for world domination.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Bearing in mind the success FSG have had in the transfer market so far, I imagine we'll end up with the 59-year old ex- Roma and Brazil player.
Having said that, still worth a punt!!!!!

Any time that a player, particularly an attacking player, is constantly spoken about for his work-rate, above and beyond any other qualities, you should start worrying.

I honestly don't see much difference between Borini & Morgan.

  42. Letting Suarez go would be madness ,he is a supporting striker/winger and he is one of the elite ones in the world,so your silly suggestions about flogging him are just moronic . The fact that He has not scored enough in his first full season easily explained ; how many players do we have in the box when attacking ? 1 or 2 ,maybe 3 at best . That was how we had good defensive record last year ,because majority of our players do not venture into the final third ,so to expect any striker to operate on their own and be so prolific ,you have got to play Bolton / stoke style with long balls and counterattacking ,neither of which we want to see ,so be realistic and realize that we have a very special player ,who needs much more support on the field from wingers and creative midfield players ,by the way Gerrard ,as much as I love him has been our worst player in the past couple of matches and certain mr Henderson would do a much more effective job ,not wasting possession all the time and his final pass is much better . Finally ,do you think Torres all of a sudden has become a bad player or at LFC he had all the support ,where at Chelsea he is just one of many and we can all see the result . What I'm trying to say is Suarez can score more then 30 goals a season providing he gets the service and not constantly having to run himself to the ground in order to create chances and as far as chance creation ,he cant be compared to anyone because he is monster of a player and the reason ,why we are at LFC still have so much support around the globe . Remember ,our club is an institution and it will continue to be so long after some of the silly contributors on this are gone ,being a giant of a club is not about the budgets you operate under ,but much much more . Rodgers and FSG are going in the right direction and all you doubting that will be proven wrong .YNWA

Lets look at the top sales, shalle we,
    Reina(20m), Johnson(15m), Skrtel(15m), Agger(25m), Enrique(10m), Lucas (15m), Allen(25m), Sterling(20m), Suarez(35m).

    Wow that alone makes 180m.

  48. Heard that del piero has been offered a deal by Liverpool? He thinking it over. That's what the Italian media have said,

    ReplyDelete
  49. Tbh i think the whole point of this article was to try and show some consistency re the critique of under performing players, its like IF we do that then its fine to continue to attack Gerrard........believe me he's the real target here, not Suarez or Reina...because the window has just closed....and neither of them have any competition for their respective places...

The article is ridiculous in that respect, just a token gesture really. One for the future perhaps depending on what happens from here on in....

Don't get me wrong, im not saying that its all gloom and doom and that FSG/BR combo won't work etc, it might work out very well in the long run, it might actually be the way forward, but the methods that have been employed to shake things up at the Club are most definitely not in keeping with the Liverpool Way....in that respect Kenny was our ONLY hope, the way he has been uncermoniously shunned labelled and blamed by the Club is aprt of the new tactic to allow BR and FSG some breathing space whilst they ruthlessly go about their business of outing who they rather stupidly feel are the one's responsible for our decline....

In this respect they have made a big mistake, but the chances are if they're lucky and we don't get injuries etc and somehow things start clicking...then they will come out of this victorious (in the short term.) as it will be seen as great and strong leadership, even though as i said there will be plenty of bad blood on their hands by then....

    Apologies for the long post.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Just to be clear, its not the new set up that i object to as yet as i havn't seen enough of it to base a valid opinion although i have my doubts its too early to say with any authority whether it is good for the Club or not....

My anger and frustration is how THEY are going about their business, they being FSG/BR....

    If you get my drift...

Lot of PR and spin and articles that seem to be helping their little agenda along nicely....., the very earnest and apparently "open" letter from John Henry etc, meanwhile they have been doing hatchet jobs behind the scenes re certain players...showing a kind of arrogance and disregard for those players who THEY feel have under performed, yet others have been gifted a royal pardon...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Apparently he's just signed for Sydney FC....don't think its going to happen...

  55. Borini is faster and has more composure but he is taking time to settle in to the club. I think when the whole team get used to Brendon's style of play, we will start getting results.

  56. im actually looking forward to seeing how we shape up .....big money short term solutions are never the answer....that and it takes young, fit.enthusiastic players time to adjust to the pace of the prem ..thses old has beens are just a waste of time ie morientes.....peligrino...big money little point ...in many respects it takes the weight of expectation of rodgers and it may benefit the team

    ReplyDelete
  57. Nah he hasn't signed anything yet, but he will do for a year tbh he experience could help are young strikers. But also in January we can sign a new striker also bring Carroll back,

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'd like to have the option of Del Piero for the last half hour of a match... he is a legend with vast experience. Think he would only improve the thin squad that we have.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yes thats right big money and short term solutions are not the answer... that is exactly why Man City won the Prem last season and Chelsea won the CL and FA Cup as well as quite few recent titles....

Bet City fans wouldn't agree with you, nor would Chelsea fans, or even United fans because they all know the value of proper investment in their beloved Club....

We on the other hand get told to lower our expectations.....and we duly oblige....

I wonder why we are still looking for another striker...? when United have Van Persie already nicely on the scoresheet....

    ReplyDelete
  60. Sorry mate ,but does the name Malaga means anything to you? The superrich owners are few and far between and they would treat our beloved club as a toy with which they will play and throw away once tired and should they not being able to win the champions league ,which in turn is much easier said than done,as you know . Yes it's nice to be able to buy RVP for the crazy sum of money ,but should Man Unt stop wining things on the regular basis ,what do you think Glazers are going to do ? Or rather the banks that own the club? So chill out - it's a long run and with new rules in place ,I'd rather have a full squad of promising youngsters that have been made into a prOper team ,than bunch of superstars that will jump the ship at first opportunity ,when their respective clubs will be forced to balance the books- what then? think ahead ,not just for today ,because like with everything else in life , that is the only right strategy when it comes to longevity ,after all our club is slightly older then you and I combined.

    ReplyDelete
  61. wow liverpool getting £5m for reina is amazing let alone £20m and why sell sterling he is are youth team

    ReplyDelete
  62. what we have is what we have ......no sugar daddy is gonna bail us out so we need to suck it up

    ReplyDelete
  63. Im just highlighting a fact of life really...Investment IS important to the actual longevity of a Club, it does to a large part govern said Club's chances of success....and how competitive they can be...

Fine, FSG want/need to be careful, or prudent as they call it, but that doesn't rub when the squad is not ready for a long and hard season with a decent target man on loan only 2 strikers and a shaky keeper....

I don't think anybody was expecting them to splash out....but at least strengthen the squad so we don't have to fear 1 injury set back to our main goal threat....who hasn't exactly been banging them in left right or centre....

Suddenly we are being very patient about a lack of investment yet Rafa was applauded for confronting the last lot because of a lack of funds.....?

We seem to change our tune when/if it suits us, for example no one is highlighting BR's lack of managerial credentials but had this been Hodgson we would be spitting blood after the start we've had....and declaring the guy unfit to manage this club because he didn't have the right credentials....and that he was just a yes man etc....

Yet Brendan comes in from Swansea FC and here we are with only 2 strikers and looking desperately to get someone else in, meanwhile we have dropped 8 points after just 3 games.... and by all acounts BR looks more like a yes man that Hodgson ever did.....but its all okay because we are thinking about the long term....

I still think that there is absolutely nothing wrong with questioning this new set up, one thing i really want to know is where is our money...? And please don't say that Kenny spent it all, because a lot of that money is tied up with actual assets, granted we may not get much back from them because they have been rubbished by the new manager.....

    ReplyDelete
  64. Okay, you suck it up, and whilst your at it you can suck mine up too because i ain't gonna be sucking up nothing.....

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  69. Jason, I welcome your comments but please, stop talking nonsense. I'm not an LFC fan because I *shock horror* support the owners? Are you serious?

You are clearly yet another victim of media; brainwashing. The press are trying to manufacture another 'crisis' at LFC, and fans are falling for it hook, line and sinker. Pathetic really.

Perhaps you should try and look at things objectively for a change; remove emotion and bias from the equation for five seconds and you may be able to see the wood for the trees.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Also, I don't form my opinion based on the majority thinks, so if everyone is against FSG, then fine; I will still support them if I think there are reasonable grounds to so.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Instead of signing Andy Carrol we could have had are pick of Falcao, Aguero, Hulk and Lorente with the cash from the sale of Torres. Sorry I forgot, neither are English.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Pulling the old xenophobic card are you...? Thats a cheap shot isn't it....? Considering our recent signings under BR i really don't know what your issue is...perhaps you don't like English....

Oh yeah...i forgot Liverpool are now Barcelona...lol

    ReplyDelete
  73. I agree. BR publicly thanked Kenny for his efforts, and then the snide has tried to sell just about EVERY player KD recruited. If the stories tonight are true, when Fulham showed no interest in Adam, BR frantically touted Henderson, Enrique AND Downing to them. To get a 29-year old goalscoring midfielder!!!? He's not even a fncking striker.

Looking at it from that perspective, we may only have One recognised striker, but at least we still have a left-back, cos I bet it wouldn't have occurred to him to get a replacement for Enrique. Mind you, he's only had 3 months to buy someone.........

    ReplyDelete
  74. Shows the ego of the bloke when he comes in and tells us all that we're gonna start playing pass n move football !!!
And then tells us it will take a while to adapt to this style of play.

Remind me to pop round his nan's and teach her how to suck a fncking egg.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Tbh i really don't like the way the Club and BR have conducted themselves lately either, im sure there is a lot more to this story re Kenny as well than meets the eye, in fact im about 99% sure....

I was banging on all last season about what i saw as player cliques going back to Benitez's departure and how the squad was divided, hence certain players under performing Reina Suarez Enrique etc....which i highlighted game after game....throughout last season.

There have been some VERY shady tactics going on to get rid of Kenny IMO and most of his signings.( i think its safe to include Gerrard in that list of unwanted's also....)

What i will say without doubt is that FSG/BR and their supporters are working all hours to promote the desired facade to pull it off....

Matters not what i say though, what matters now is can they actually succeed, if BR manages to turn things around and bring some winning form and momentum/consistency to the team then i doubt many people will be complaining, IF though they fail then all hell WILL break loose....and they know it...

High risk strategy IMO, any injuries to our strikers and we're/they're fcuked, BR John Henry...the lot of them. As a supporter, we can only carry on and hope that things will eventually get better.

None of this sits well with me though tbh, might be successful might be a complete failure but it will never sit well with me. In that respect im as pissed off as i've ever been, and i bet Gerrard is too....

    ReplyDelete
  76. Ha ha that might have been amusing last year but its not even slightly amusing now, much like your self. Yawn.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Liverpool biggest problem right now is Stevie G. When he plays well the headlines read the one and only capt marvellous Stevie G and when he plays badly it's the team or the managers fault.

    ReplyDelete
  78. You did not get it, FSG wants to sell the entire first team.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I disagree, this the problem when we only have 1 or 2 real gamechangers/matchwinners in the team....and it has been like that for years which is hardly Gerrards faut is it...?

The headlines are just the headlines....sensationalistic in nature, RVP at Manu...Tevez...Rooney Aguero Fabregas etc etc etc are always in "the Headlines" it comes with the territory of being a matchwinner.,...

You could argue that we actually need MORE of these type players to take the heat OFF Gerrard....i don't think many people would be complaining if we DID have a few more players like that....

But as it stands we have "fans" at LFC like you who believe that our best matchwinner/gamechanger is our biggest problem....

Hardly surprising that we are currently the most laughed at Club in the premier league....

    ReplyDelete
  80. It would have also been nice to know that we would have no depth at all to the squad striker-wise when we renewed our season tickets in June. After all, FSG sit on the interest of our up-front payments, then don't bother strengthening the squad. In fact, it looks at it's weakest since the Souness era.
It's a bit like paying for a film at the pictures and then when you go in they tell you it's the same film but made by an amateur dramatic society from Dudley.....

With regard to player power. Look at the performances, and style of play under Dalglish when he first took over. There was some really good football. Exciting, incisive, entertaining....... Compare that to when FSG give him a full-time contract : from a group of hungry players playing for KD to get a contract, suddenly hey presto they're all on easy street again. And we immediately lose at home to Spurs and away to Villa. The warning bells began to ring then.

Kenny was not sacked because of transfer dealings. He was sacked purely because of the media vendetta against him over a vexatious complaint made by a snidey little black man. And that isn't racist, it's a factually based observation.

    The thing that is worrying me at the minute is that this much vaunted tikataka style of football is being drummed into them instead of how to make common-sense decisions: Like;

    1) if you are a goalie, you CAN kick it. You don't HAVE to play a 3-man triangle to show how clever you are.
    2) if you are under pressure, play safe. Especially if you are the least talented passer at the club.
    3) you don't always have to play 1-touch. Hold the ball and choose the best option. Otherwise you may give it away, and the opposition could benefit with a goal... (or THREE).
    4) if you have a tall striker, who has suddenly found a bit of form, nurture and praise him. Don't publicly humiliate him. You could maybe even find a stem where you put in a few decent balls for him to attack. If not, loan him out for a £34mill loss......

Anyway. I've got an appointment with my counsellor at 13:30.
    No joke.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Someone in the Kemlyn criticised him on Sunday, and he turned and gave them a look to say "How VERY dare you". Did you also see him do his "Hit him" fist-slap thing to Borini, for bottling a tackle.
Lead by example, Steven. Keep the fncking ball.

  83. I feel some fans let their emotions for the club get in the way of their judgement to an extent where they get blind. I.E KD, so many people were accepting mediocrity just because he had legendary status at the club.

Even when we finished 8th and spent astronomical amounts of money of average players, some fans were still accepting this purely because KD is a legend in his own right.

Like you said, if one puts oneself outside the equation then they might see things clearly.

    IMO.
