You're out! Rodgers confirms that Reds star has no future at LFC...

With only two days of the transfer window remaining, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has given the strongest indication yet that Charlie Adam's Anfield career is over.

In his pre-match press conference yesterday, Rodgers was asked about speculation linking Adam with a move away, and he made it crystal clear that the Scottish International will not feature in his plans. He explained:

"The reality is, players want to play, and one or two of them have decisions to make about whether they want to be a squad player or whether they want to play regular football somewhere else.

"Charlie will be a pivotal part of the Scottish national team going forward. He's a terrific player with a good left foot, who will score goals and I'm sure he'll do very well for Scotland."

If Adam had a future at Anfield, Rodgers would've said 'he'll do very well for Liverpool' (or a variation thereof) at least once, but instead, he twice states he'll do well for Scotland. Reading between the lines, the message is obvious: Adam is on the way out.

Adam has indicated several times that he's happy at Liverpool, and if he sticks to his guns then there's nothing the club can do to make him leave. Stoke City tabled a £4m bid for Adam last night, but I doubt taking such a big step down will appeal to the player.

I personally feel Adam is a decent player, and if I had to keep any of Kenny Dalglish's buys it would be him. Whatever happens though, it's heartening to see Rodgers actively trying to rectify Dalglish's transfer mistakes.

  1. Sell immediately for as much as you can get. Their entire ethos now is gonna be about quick pressing, and quick passing, lots of movement. Hes a hindrance in all of these departments. Best getting rid now before his value decreases yet further, especially as we now must sell to buy.

send Hendersson and Downing with him...

  3. At the end of the day it will suit both player and if Carrol moves on. He obviously has no future at LFC. The club will want to bring in a striker , and Carrol will want regular football in order to play for England. I just hope it gets sorted sooner rather than later. I hear Lloiente is lined up if Carrol's sold.

  4. Charlie is a good player but he does not fit in Liverpool's style of play. His class was exposed last season as he did very poorly at LFC especially set-pieces, something he was known for at Blackpool. I can't remember LFC scoring a goal from his corner or free-kick. He also keeps fouling opposition players and giving away free kicks at dangerous areas of the pitch.

He has not shown the leadership and focus which he had at Blackpool. It would be fair to say he is a good mid-table player but not Liverpool class. Sooner he leaves, better for the club and him!

  5. I completely agree that he is the best of the Dalglish signings last summer. I think his lack of pace makes it easy for him to be singled out, and amid all the frustrations of last season he became a target. Xabi Alonso was not particularly quick either. I believe it was the non-contribution creatively of players like Henderson and Spearing around him that contributed (always looking to go back rather than forward). Throw in Downing with no end product and it was hard for anyone to come out of that set up looking good.

I think you could say it of any player that if you put them in a good passing team with better more gifted players around them, they would look better; but I think this is more true of Adam. He's got deficiencies but I think he is actually decent creatively.

  6. Nothing angers me in a game more than clumsy tackles from behind, losing possession to stupidity, hollywood long balls and the infamous "Adam turn"!

    Chadm must go!

Jk, don't know how you'd put him over the other signings (bar downing)

  7. I could tie a pair of boots onto a fencepost and it would be more useful than Charlie Adam on a good day. Lovely fellow. Will have his day somewhere else. Just not Liverpool. Sell! Bite the hand off any offer. Dempsey in!

  8. Obvious question this, sorry, but you'd honestly keep Adam over Suarez? I mean, I know you HATE Suarez, but you'd prefer to keep someone whose blood-type is officially 'Pizza Hut' ahead of a bloke with instinctive talent, imagination and, on his day, world-class match-winning ability?
As I said, obvious question. Sorry.

  9. BR is a very smart man, by saying this in public he is alerting clubs, even encouraging clubs to make bids. I think the reported £4M is way too low however.

He is a decent squad player, no doubt he will be used more in the Europa, Capital One Cup (hahahahahahha) and FA Cup. For £4M I don't think it's worth letting him go, in fact he made 11 assists last season even though he missed 11 games. And we paid £7M for him just a year ago so £4M is not enough. However he is earning a reported £60K a week.

I think Adam will be a beast for a "smaller club".

Admittedly though, I was very excited when we signed him.

BR I am fully behind you! Downing and Carroll your next...

  11. Indeed but not for the quoted £4M!

  12. The only reason Adam was so good for Blackpool in 2010-2011 was because he had Vaughan doing all the dirty work for him.

  13. Can anyone here say he has honestly had a fair crack of the whip? Very indicative of throw away culture. Out with the old in with the new; just not very in keeping with YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think he was coming from the point that Suarez is a very dishonest player and a troublemaker at times which is not the "Liverpool Way". He was not referring to his football ability. Everyone knows Suarez is a great player. :)

  15. Don't forget the penalty howlers. Cut your losses and sell I say

    ReplyDelete
  16. Fulham want him but he won't go south, negotiations back on regarding Dempsey!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Unfortunately times have changed, and traditions and values have become less prevalent within Football Clubs.

I think he had a fair crack considering he made 11 assists last season, I just think BR knows he is a liability concerning the way he wants the team to play. I'm sure he knows CA is a good player.

Much rather sell Spearing than Adam.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sorry i lost my way there. Was gonna comment on Adam , but I have been reading about the Carrol situation all day. Doing my head in. On that note if Adam's deal goes through I will be smiling.

    ReplyDelete
  19. only a blind, out of touch goat like kenny could have stuck with Adam. it was clear after a few games that he was never up to the job. if we can use the gollum and adam money to buy clint, ill be happy.

the comments re wingers on 6m per year does not bode well for downing either, hopefully someone will take him, cole and henderson too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Simple: end product. Before his injury, Adam had 2 goals and 8 assists.  That is a decent return.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Fair enough, but if he's trying to suggest that we should assemble a team of 'likeable gentlemen' then I'd suggest that 'football' may not be the pass-time he should be indulging in.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh yes! And his free kicks also. Although I don't think he is a bad player. Put him in a middle table team and he will shine.

    ReplyDelete
  23. LOL you know what I mean...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I just don't know who will be able to match their wages if they were interested.

    ReplyDelete
  25. He's a sh*t player just like Carroll, Downing & Henderson (although I have a slight niggle in the back of my mind that Henderson might come good).

None of Kenny's big summer signings started the first game of the season and it was probably the most enjoyable game I've watched at Anfield for a long tiime. Its been the biggest waste of money in the clubs history but we've got to take it on the chin and get rid of the lot of them.

We stand to lose about £30M on last years deals but to move forward they've all got to go. No more mid-table players getting paid 'top 4 wages'. I'd rather watch Allen, Sterling, Shelvey (hopefully Sahin) and Borini all day before seeing that lot on the pitch again.

If we bring in another 1 or 2 players I'll be as happy as a pig in sh*t because it means last year's lot will be even further away from my seat at Anfield than they are now. I have the greatest respect for Kenny, he's an absolute legend in my eyes but in the cold light of day his signings are massively overpriced and totally sh*t (Enrique excepted).

    ReplyDelete
  26. So he's better than Enrique then? I don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Off subject sort of but im not that happy with Rogers basically saying that if players stay, its because they arent that bothered about playing, its more about money. I dont think thats fair or right. Maybe players want to stay rather then join a lesser club? Maybe they have the belief in themselves that the manager doesnt. He said this when talking about Carroll, as far as i can see Andy is third choice striker. It doesnt take a genius to see that things can turn around quickly. If Borini fails to shine and Andy keeps coming off the bench and starts scoring then Rogers would be left with no choice. I still think Borini and Suarez in a front three playing off Carroll could be tasty.

As for Adam, he now has Sahin, Allen, Gerrard, Shelvey, Lucas and Henderson ahead of him. Regardless of what you think of Henderson, he definitely has ability and if played central will start to shine. Adam is slightly older and seeing as his dead ball delivery was a major reason for buyin him, how often does he hit it into the midriff of the first defender? Really grates on me that does.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think your comments on Kenny are a bit disrespectful.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think some people should be questioning Brendens decision, to keep Downing too? he played almost a full season, no prem goals or assists, for a winger! come on now trying him as a left back? he can`t tackle he fades in and out of games, he just goes missing when weve needed a bit of inspiration please, dont have a go at Charlie Adam when you have the likes of Downing who his on more money than Adam Spearing or Henderson, he never was a Liverpool player, if we`re honest with ourselves. Dalglish set our club back with a few bad bad signings, lets not be blinded by the damage that he and Comolli have done? and hope that Brenden rodgers can overcome it, and bring the team and club back on track this season.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ye Gods ! Adam before Suarez !!!! And I used to think that you had a rational outlook. Bring on the men in the white coats.

    ReplyDelete
  31. he is the WORST of the signings. We should keep Henderson who can be a great Liverpool player. Not every player is expected to be 'creative' when that's not his job. Downing can be a useful squad man but is very inconsistent. Adam - slow, clumsy, unfit - and his big claim to fame were his set-pieces which were awful for Liverpool. Adam, Cole, Spearing to go asap.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "happy as a pig in sh**" Classic!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Rodgers' comments appear to make it very clear to me that he'd gladly be rid of all of Carroll, Adam and Cole (3rd choice winger on £5-6m).

We can easily replace the qualities of Adam & Cole (and Carragher, Downing & Spearing) just by promoting youth from our reserves, while saving the club millions, but if we are to push Carroll out, hopefully we have a starting calibre striker lined up to take his place.

I'm just not convinced that Borini is the man to lead us back into the top 4, and so would love to see a more complete (more technically & athletically gifted) striker coming in asap

    ReplyDelete
  34. TBH I don't understand why BR doesn't see Adam as part of his passing play. He is a good player, and on an entirely different level compared to the likes of Henderson and Spearing, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  35. stats never tell the whole picture. he had two wild shots deflected into the net for example. Downing 'no assists' created many chances, just our strikers missed them. so no point to rely on stats. Adam is poor, couldn't get a game at Rangers, and i don't remember a single good game in a liverpool shirt - a slow clumsy liability

    ReplyDelete
  36. Can't help feeling Jamie you need to write fewer articles so that those you write have something to say, other than repeating what's elsewhere or stating the obvious. This has no contribution other than to incite these exagerated comments where everyone is shit, everyone is a mistake, and everything is terrible. i would welcome a change in mood where lfc supporters support the club, not the players they would pick in a computer game

    ReplyDelete
  37. Couldn't agree more Jay. Reserving judgement on Borini until maybe January.

He is not the prolific type (ATM) and Suarez too.

    ReplyDelete
  38. But seriously, I was mainly referring to Dalglish's summer signings.

    ReplyDelete
  39.  Seb coates is a decent cb

    ReplyDelete
  40. We should be grateful to get £4 million for him! A shocking liability of a player. He makes about one decent cross field pass a game (at best)! The rest of the time he gives the ball away or fouls someone, normally in a dangerous position!! A complete waste of a wage!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 100% agreed then.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jaimie...you personally feel that Adam is a decent player. That statement shows what you know about the game...he is a donkey. He had a "flash in the pan" season at Blackpool. They were delighted that they got more than half a million for him and off loaded him before minds were changed. His corners don't get past the first defender, he is a sluggish runner and his tackling is awful. I doubt Blackpool would take him back for free!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Adam is a decent player; that is an irrefutable fact, no matter what you think.  You cannot play in the Premier League unless you are, at the very least, a decent player. End of story.

    ReplyDelete
  45. He did ok last season, but I dont think he is quite good enough. Plus with Allen, Sahin, Shelvey, Gerrard, Henderson etc... all looking like they are ahead of him, we may as well get him off the wage bill, try and get a decent sum for him, to then mayebe make a move for a striker i.e. Dempsey?!

    ReplyDelete
  46. When I saw him on the field I always pray that he don't get sent off. His tackle was awful

    ReplyDelete
  47. Adam has ZERO talent. How many goals has he scored/created at LFC. The first decent thing Adam could do for LFC is to bow out graciously...end of. Also, surely people such as you who write articles shouldn't write fiction!

    ReplyDelete
  48. why hasn't  he Adams been already sold? I believe that we should sell as many of Kenny Daglish's signings as soon as possible. What is Charlie Adams still doing on the squad? Sell him right away as soon as possible. Sell Joe Cole who is on a massive wage already and has not proven that he deserve it , West Ham have come calling for him. The income generated by those two alone will allow us to rescue Clint Dempsey and bring in Klaas Jan Hunterlaar. With Hunterlaar we won't really need Carroll if we can get a decent offer then we get rid of him too now or in January. Jordan Henderson who has been missing in action also should be kept till January when we can assess him again and see if  he is indeed worth keeping. Downing was left out of the list of people to get rid of simply because in his new position as left back he will provide competition for Enrique.

Also think that Brad Jones should be given starting goalkeeper position until a real decent keeper can be brought in and Pepe Reina should be the Aussie's back up. Ofcourse the Spaniard who sit on the bench for his national team will object to doing that at his club so he too should be gotten rid of in January and a hungrier , more eager replacement brought in.

I think it's time to get rid of all the deadwood on the team that have been getting a free ride. Everyone on the team should be able to pull his own weight and should justify their being there. Other than Gerrard and Carrager two individuals who have proved their worth on the team over time. No one else should be guaranteed a berth on the squad. BR is the sheriff come into to clean out Liverpool that has been the metaphorical badlands for really mediocre talent for a very long time.

Hope we make the crucial important signings we need in the 48 hours we have left to fuel this revolution taking place at liverpool . Would love really to be celebrating a goal fest this season at Anfield. Wouldn't you?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Adam made 28 appearances and scored 2 goals and created 11 goals for LFC last season. That proves he is a decent player at the least! He also did very well in the PL for Blackpool.

He just could not duplicate his first season in the PL for Blackpool to LFC.

  50. I just find it absolutely hilarious that all of KK's signings are either surplus to requirements or actively being told to find another club. Yet some fans are still trying to defend them or say they have a future at Anfield. BR is in charge of the club now and he will have made the assessment of who fits his system and how likely they are to adapt. He clearly doesn't think any of the signings KK made are up to shape so is asking them to move on. I don't blame the players not wanting to move on, they are on millions a year and playing for one of the biggest teams in the world. But move on they must! I love how Bucky is prepared to tell them this to their faces. He is decisive, has a plan and we should back him all the way regardless of our own personal views on how good or bad a player is. What an exciting season we have ahead of us! In Brenden We Trust...

    ReplyDelete
  51. It is not a matter of Rodgers keeping Downer. So far no club has put a bid. So how do you sell something(someone) nobody wants. We are stuck with mediocre players on high wages nobody wants and they rather stay and earn these wages despite knowing they will be warming the bench the whole season. Thats the crux of the matter.

We will never know who was at fault for the purchase of players last season. Whether it was Damien and his scouts with their players stats and electronic anal y sis or KD???
That said. The damage has been done and Rodgers needs to fix it albeit with limited resources. Sad actually the club has come to this.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree. stats should be used when scouting a potential player. But it should not be the main criterion. Long gone are the days where a player is recruited solely on human technique and knowledge and most importantly gut feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Adam has ability but I would argue doesn't have the desire to push on. He was abviously indulged at Blackpool a little bit and I fully expected to see a fitter, leaner Charlie Adam at Liverpool but he runs out of steam around the hour mark in every game. He must know himself that he can improve in this area but he isn't doing anything about it hence we still see the same old traits of being caught in possession and then giving a cheap free kick away with a lazy tackle as he hasn't got the energy to chase back properly.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I can see BR benching Gerrard, Suarez or Pepe if they don't perform.BOSS

    ReplyDelete
  55. Really? Suarez a great player?? I disagree. When he starts banging in the goals like he is paid to do week in week out. Then I will acknowledge the fact. But for now he still remains an enigma.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hello, I don't dispute things were not spectacular for him last season but he did get injured towards the end of the season and not sure it could be said he was ever part of a team that was firing on all cylinders; appreciating that he could also be a reason for that. However, I think he should be given longer to fight it out.

Henderson, I think hasn't proved himself either; still too early to tell.

Downing, I am not convinced. He is old enough and I've seen enough to say it seems like he will always flatter to deceive.

Spearing, I'm afraid is simply not good enough.

Enrique, point taken. But I'd equally say that he lost his way as well as Adam.

  59. Brian. which part of decent you DO NOT understand?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Wasn't it the reason BR referred to Scotland and not LFC was because the question asked was about Scotland? I think he is on his way out, either now or in January, shae, he could be a useful squad player

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hmmmm, I think time will show that cotes, hendo, enriqe (contemplating who was resposible for signing Shelvy as well) all where better signings than adam! Adam is just too slow for what we need to achive over the next few years.
On that note I feel that we will be looking interesting as the two new signings (both football intelligent) starts tormenting our opponents. We all of a sudden have 2 fast tecnical wingers, a solid central midfield with the best cover since alonso left for RM. We are mustering a team that at least make me more optimistic than ive been in years.

Obviouslly I too would love a signing of another striker. We need another player in the  "torres-mold" that can score at will. Then if we`re stuck with AC for another year, he still would be a decent bacup tactic for opening up solid defences at end of maches. I think he has the potential to score 10+ goals this season, just playing the last 20 minutes of matches. If he ends up doing that he will up the value and could eventually be sold next summer with a profit equalling his wages this season. Selling him after the disasterous season he just had seems a bit desperate
