Damn you, Adriano! CEO confirms €17m dream transfer is dead...

So near, yet so far! A few hours ago, everything was looking rosy: Silvio Berlucsoni-owned Sports Mediaset reported that AC Milan and Liverpool were negotiating a loan deal for 35m striker Andy Carroll. With only two days of the transfer window remaining, this was shaping up to be a dream come true, and Liverpool fans across the globe rejoiced en-masse**. Alas, Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has now poured cold water on the possibility of a potential deal, which probably means that Carroll will now be staying at Anfield.

** This may be a slight exaggeration

The details of the proposed Carroll deal were thus:

* €3m loan fee, leading to:
* A possible permanent €17 million [£13.5m] deal next summer.

However, speaking to reporters earlier this evening, Galliani told reporters:

"Bojan [Krkic] will be the last new player for Milan.

"Kaka will not arrive and we refused [Angelo] Palombo too. Carroll? We already have a lot of strikers."

Granted, Galliani doesn't explicitly rule out the loan deal but it seems clear that the imminent arrival of Krkic means any deal for Carroll is probably dead. The same applies to potential deals with other clubs too. Yesterday, in response to question about Carroll, West Ham manager Sam Allardyce said:

"I don't see much at all, to be honest with you, in terms of ins [transfers in]. I think that our finances now are on the limit, as it were, speaking to our co-chairmen. I think we'll work with what we've got.

when asked if Carroll could return to St James’ Park before the transfer window closes on Friday, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew also appeared to rule out a move:

"I don’t think so. We’re talking more of a younger player who could perhaps take the club forward".

It looks like Liverpool are stuck with Carroll until January at least.

In all seriousness, a move would surely be good for Carroll's career. Does he really want to be stuck on the bench every week at an age when he should be starting regularly?

  2. Nearly scored?  Was that before he fell over for the third time, or after his 3rd misplaced pass?

  3. Does he really want to be on the bench? Earning how much?

  4. The plus side is he'll have to work very hard to play himself into someones plans. the minus side is , as we saw on sunday, as soon as he came on, the style of play changed to hoofball.
i still think he could be a good plan B when the chips are down away to stoke etc. also, i believe a 20m+ loss is too much to bear for a skint side like us. surely its better if he's worth at least 20m? and that cant happen unless he makes a name for himself again.

Yes. An slipped over I've seen a lot of players slip over... An I've seen gerrard,Lucas,Johnson miss place passes. Give the guy a break. If he played against west brom he would of put half of the headers Suarez missed. We need strikers not get rid of them. Only get rid of...Adam,spearing, and maybe downing because sterling better

  6. good we don't want loan deals rather keep him then send him on loan, straight up cash or do 1.

Rumours NUFC are preparing a final £17 million bid for Carroll we should accept it if true and id rather see us get Huntelaar then Sturridge if we can can get him less then £20 mill it's a good deal.

  7. Rowan - I think the Carroll plan B is a superb idea, and Liverpool should definitely use it as much as possible, but only during injury time at the end of each game.

  8. I don't think many Liverpool fans would rejoice in sending our 35 million pound striker on loan to Italian club only for them to fob us off when it comes to a permanent deal. Big Andy can make a diffidence for us this season, even if it is from the bench

  9. carroll will come good, shut up and support LFC which means the WHOLE team.

  10. Yes, from the bench he can make a massive difference, shouting words of encouragement to the players on the field. I'd buy that for a dollar.

I don't think that many liverpool would be glad if he goes. Because when I go each week to games when we play when he warms up we all clap for him because we like that he gives everything he got. He isn't lazy. He gets to every ball...

  12. Don't know why everyone wants him to go, he certainly offers better quality than Borini.

As for people saying he doesn't fit into the current system, look at Danny Graham, similar sort of player flourished last year.

  13. I'm convinced the longer Carroll plays under BR - not sit on the bench but play - the more his value would depreciate.  He just cannot play in a system where 'tiki-taka' is the basic requirement.  He will look worse.  The more he plays in a typical old school British style the better he will look.  BR's philosophy is are on the opposite end of that spectrum and thank God for that.  Looks like a duck, walks like a duck....

Better than selling him for 12-15 million 20 million loss.. Teams need a plan B, because plan A will fail sometimes during teams... The teams which sit back... Packed...

  15. I would place him way down the list of players we need to move out, Adam, Downing, Doni, Spearing, Henderson, Carroll, in that order.
Unfortunately he will give us the highest Fee if he moves, which is unlikely now.
The last thing I want is a deadline day move, and the yanks put the money in their back pocket. Might as well keep him than have that scenario. I Have a sneaky feeling Rodgers will improve him considerably over the next few months. (I live in hope).

  16. Jamie, its awesome you reply to peoples comment,,.. but in my view if we aint buying any other striker, we keep carroll.. injuries will definitely come.. and when it does with our strikers we will need is quality..

  17. Never thought that any Seria a club 'll ever pay a penny for a donkey.  In a much slower but tactical Italian football, with referees extremely strict on contacts, AC won't have played even in cup ties.

Utter garbage, for whom we paid 4 times.

    ReplyDelete
  18. We were never going to let him go out on loan let alone to an Italian club.  We've already been bitten by that particular nest of vipers.

Bearing in mind there never ever was an offer on the table just the usual Daily Mail effluent stirring.

  19.   whythe hell does doni appear onthis list only played two games and was man of the match both games  u should replace doni with reina !!!

  20. The only thing i would rejoice at is if jamie k was banned from publishing his rubbish while claiming to be an LFC SUPPORTER.

  21. But plan B never happened with carroll and never will, he came on and changed the game once against chelsea but until then he never made an impact as a sub. The reason carroll hasn't been a success is because he never starts enough to build up actual form. I don't understand why people think he has a better chance of scoring as a sub rather than a starter.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jamie you don't know how much hope this gave me when I heard it! But I knew it was to good to be true. I still think the West Ham deal was nice. Anyone would be foolish to pay more than £10M for him based on the last  season and a half.

Guess we are stuck with him. :(

  23. We don't need players like Carroll, gets a big cheer from LFC fans and he's done what?

Would love Huntelaar to join (and Walcott and Dempsey). In an ideal world our owners would send us some 30 odd million from the $$$ they're saving after the blockbuster trade at the Bosox to buy Radamel Falcoa, the guy is scoring goals for fun. He does it all, right foot, left foot, headers (more than Carroll who is much taller) and he is technically gifted (which is what Rodgers is all about).

Hopefully Athletico can hang onto Falcoa (if we don't get him this time) and we can go for him in the summer when we can offer CL football. Last time we went knocking it turned out pretty well (initially)...

  24. We should be backing all of our players not constantly bagging them.

I was looking for some form of biography to explain JKs credentials - he has a lot of very negative opinions it would be interesting to find out how qualified he is to be giving them.

In the mean time I'd love JK to bump into Andy Carroll one evening down a very dark alleyway...

  25. Swap for Pato.  Get Pato !!

  26. We just have to admit we were plain stupid to pay 35 mil pounds for AC. He will not cost anything more than 5-8 mil pounds if he's not a Brit. FSG has to pay a price for appointing the wrong people to identify and negotiate for suitable players. Therefore, a lost of 20 mil pounds is now the best for our mistake, regardless of plan A or B whatsoever.

  27. Looks like you might have to get behind the lad then hey Jamie? I'd rather keep him around as a sub. Hopefully he will be keen to prove himself. I would hate to see him come good at another EPL club if we sold him for less than half what we paid for him. Plus he scares the pants off John Terry, so it's worth having him for that!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bit of a witch hunt going on here. Reminds me of the same nonsense that Lucas had to endure, About time those so called people in the know supporters actually supported Andy. Looks like Carroll is being left to walk alone. For shame JK.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Keep him anyways he is a danger when ever he plays, brings a different dimension to the team

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't agree Jaimie listen to the supporters when he warms up... They're cheering! If he goes, he goes... On his day he can be a handful for any defender. Define the word 'supporter' you either do or you don't!?

    ReplyDelete
  31. What is there in his strike rate thus far at Liveprool which convinces anyone that he's some sort of 'plan B'?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have been At Anfield and heard Carroll being applauded when warming up. *every player* is applauded, but that's not really the point. This kind of view is so insular; you do realise that 99.9% of LFC's support is OUTSIDE Anfield on matchday, right. You ascribe disproportionate weight to the reaction of fans inside the stadium, as if their response is the only thing that matters. That is not the reality.

This keeps coming back to the IDIOT Dalglish for signing him in the first place.
Carroll looks quite happy to sit on the Bench and pick up his Salary.
Hardly the sign of a player eager to play!

I'm hoping we can move on Adam Spearing Downing and Henderson as well.
You always know a player is sought after when other Top Team are after them.
NOT ONE OF THOSE SIGNINGS I MENTIONED WAS BEING COURTED.

  34. rather have caroll than any of the first free players you mention especially dempsey or walcott

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do you know what I hate the most about Carroll, that people call him "Big Andy" or the "Big Lad". Not really sure why, but it really grinds my gears. I would like him to fit in, but im just not sure if he will, maybe keep him until January, tell him he needs to score X amount of goals, or at least show that he is really trying and showing improvement, and if not, then move him on.

  36. jaimie said weeks ago that this would be a non event as far as transfer windows go its clear now that fsg are not going to spend any of there /our money on transferes you replyed wait till it closes well two days left and then the excuses will start about how we tried to sign this player and that player well spurs out muscled us /and johnson to sunderland lol .we are not in the big league when it comes to transfers anymore sunderland have spent more net and gross loan signings are ok if you have a set fee to buy the player but we do not so if they play well they will go back to there parent clubs or we will be out bid by spurs sunderland or the big clubs 2 days to put it right and please god not dempsey for caroll

  37. It was hardly nonsence mate - Lucus was really poor for a good three seasons before improving rapidly. Ok he had to switch positions but lets me honest we didn't really miss him too much last year when our defence was one of the best in the league and we didn't miss him against City on sunday. At the rate we let our poor players become good we'll be playing in the lower leagues! (I do like Lucus!!).

    ReplyDelete
  38. Carroll is a mid table team player and always will be. My 5 a side team has better passers and strikers than donkey could ever hope to be!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lucas had potential, thats the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  40. He looks like a fairy with that long hair, couldnt scare a fly away!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jaimie your been so harsh on Andy, its not as if any of the rest of the strikers are gonna score much an Andy looks the most likely, plus every forward gives away the ball and i dont think he done much wrong

    ReplyDelete
  42. who even shelled out 35m on him , comolli needs hunting down and kicking

    ReplyDelete
  43. There's been a few reports online about Huntelaar coming - in fact, i read one this morning on Dutch website sport 1 that Schalke & Liverpool have agreed a deal and both parties are waiting on Carroll moving on.

If this is true, and it's a big if, this would be the best signing for LFC since Torres. Huntelaar has a prolific scoring record, in fact, last season he had more goals than games.
I don't care if he's 29 and has no re-sale value close to his asking price (reportedly in the region of £15m). His presence at the club will bring on our other forwards - especially Morgan and his presence on the field of play will terrify opposition defenders.

You make me sick Jamie the way you slate our players and try hounding them out the club and making out your the voice of Liverpool fans. Why can't you just be supportive, anyone can see that he's effective and your comment bout being 100% behind Rogers, we all know that will be until we loose three games then he will be on your hit list

  45. the italian clubs play this publicity game to perfection. they feign interest for big money players (so that they can look good to their supporters), and almost to a tee, bow out. it may be subtle, but i think quite a lot of people are now getting clued in on their act. all it does for the player is get him exited only to feel horrible (like a failed job interview); and basically wastes valuable time / resources for the selling club to this exercise because the intent was never genuine in the first place.

having said that, i think lfc does that as well. dempsey is one example (of course, that could change in a couple of days, but i wouldnt hold my breath); and all the names which we have heard over and over (jovetic, adam johnson, afellay, tello, martinez etc etc etc).

never believe a word anyone says or blogs until it is announced. if you do, all you are expending is unnecessary mental energy which you could better spend on your family or work. or watching tv.

  46. having a recognized plan B in place is telling the whole world that plan A may not work. the manager needs to convince and get every one of his players to buy into his game plan. where there is hesitation, or distrust, or doubt, the plan will fail.

the reason teams run drills over and over again is to ensure that when the team is under the gun, it goes to what it is trained to do, and that is execute the way they have spent hours training on. where there is a plan B, you introduce a variable which might compromise the playing integrity because you have one or more players who when pressured go to the wrong plan.

i repeat -- under stress or pressure, people (not just athletes) revert to what they are natively trained to do or recognize. players with bad playing habits will follow the plan until they are under the gun (and that is where you can separate the great players from the useless ones).

look at andy carroll last season. when he was not so fit, he flopped like new-born deer. when he got fitter, and had time with the team, he played better, but when the pressure was high, he occasionally reverted to the flopper, which is quite embarrassing because he is such a big and strong guy and to always lose position and be out-muscled by men smaller than him.
