Deal Close: 'Outstanding' £20m star confirms Liverpool talks and hints he'll sign 'in the next month'

One of Liverpool's regularly injured players has confirmed that he is currently in talks with Liverpool over a new long-term contract.

Last week, The Telegraph claimed:

"Liverpool have reopened contract talks with Dejan Lovren. Last year, negotiations stalled [but] now they have been revived, and there is a commitment to ensure Lovren remains at Anfield beyond 2019".

When asked on Monday about the veracity of the report, Lovren told the Liverpool Echo:

“Progress [on the contract] is going on and I'd say that hopefully everything will be clear in the next month. I'm really happy here. I'm settled after everything that happened in the beginning.

Lovren returned from injury against Everton over the weekend, and it's fair to say that he put in a very solid performance, which is impressive for a player who hadn't kicked a ball in eight weeks.

Lovren was also lucky to avoid yet another injury after being recklessly scythed down by Dross Barkley, a challenge for which the Croatian demanded an apology:

"If you make a hard challenge than be open about it and say sorry. If I show you [my leg] it will be headlines tomorrow".

The question is, does Lovren deserve a new deal?
