Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted at some big changes for Wednesday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth
Liverpool's squad is currently ravaged by injuries, and when asked today how he plans to approach the game, Klopp told reporters:
"We have the possibility of changing systems. We have different options. Milner could play a wing position offensively. There's a lot of different things".
With Sadio Mane definitely out of tomorrow's game, moving Milner onto the right wing makes perfect sense, but if that happens, who will replace him at left-back. There are two obvious options:
* Safe Option 1: Play Alexander-Arnold at right-back, and move Clyne to left-back (where he's played several times before at Southampton and LFC).
* Safe Option 2: Utilise Ragnar Klavan at left-back. The Estonian has played there many times in the past.
* Nuclear Option: Reinstate Alberto Moreno at left-back, and keep Clyne on the right.
Moreno's stock has plummeted with both Klopp and the Liverpool fanbase, but he's not a lost cause, and he's perfectly capable of deputising against Bournemouth. That said, my preferred option is Alexander-Arnold/Clyne.
As for 'changing systems' - Klopp has employed a 352 on several occasions this season, though it's unclear why he'd switch to (ostensibly) a more defensive formation for a home game. Possible lineup using 352:
------------- Mignolet
--- Lovren --- Matip ----- Klavan
Clyne -------------------------- Milner
------- Can -- Lucas -- Wijnaldum
----------------- Coutinho
-------------- Firmino
* Jan 2017: Described by Alan Shearer as 'brilliant'. €17m-rated (CIES Football Observatory)
