Deal Close: Klopp confirms Liverpool 'are in talks' with 'brilliant' €38m powerhouse. 73% of fans want transfer

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool are in the midst of contract discussions with one of the club's most polarising players.

It's an open secret that Can is currently renegotiating his contract, and in his pre-match press conference today, Klopp confirmed it, when he told reporters:

"We are in talks. Emre likes to be here. There are talks. Until the final year starts, no problems in this moment. Good talks held with a lot of other players.”

Can may be in talks, but Reds legend Jamie Carragher believes that a summer exit may still be on the cards:

"He [Can] has got a contract situation at the moment, but is he going to sign it? There is a good chance he may not be here next season. I don't see, when the first XI is picked, where else he can play except that [sitting] role."

I have absolutely no problem with Can being sold. Liverpool can do better in that position, and given the fact he cost just £10m, there's clearly a great chance for the Reds to make a massive profit this summer.

Can deserves credit for grabbing a vital winning goal against Burley, but that shouldn't factor into his current contract negotiations. One goal doesn't define a season, and the reality is that Can struggled yet again for large parts of the Burnley game.

Liverpool fans don't seem to concerned about a possible sale, either. I conducted a poll last month asking fans if Klopp should sell Can, and 73% of participants voted YES.

That is a giant vote of no-confidence, and there's plenty of evidence over the last couple of years to suggest that Can just isn't up to it. This will all be ignored, though - expect Can to sign a 10-year deal in the near future.
