Boss Confirms: 'Immense' £40m star admired by Klopp took a 'big kick' and may miss Liverpool-Southampton game

After Saturday's disastrous home defeat to Swansea *shudder*, there may be some good news on the horizon for Liverpool.

The Reds face Southampton this week in the second leg of the EFL semi-final, and it looks like one of the Saints' best players may miss the game.

'Immense' Southampton captain Virgil Van Dijk suffered an ankle injury during the Saints' 3-0 win over Leicester today, and when asked after the game if Van Dijk will be fit for Liverpool on Wednesday, Claude Puel admitted:

"I don't know if we can recover him. He took a big kick and could not continue the game, so we will see for the next games. I hope we can have Virgil of course because he is our captain and he's an important player".

Southampton have a 1-0 lead from the first leg, during which Van Dijk delivered a master-class in defending, and helped his team nullify the Reds' array of talented attacking players.

On paper, Liverpool should be able to beat Southampton at Anfield, even with Van Dijk, but as the Swansea debacle shows, nothing should be taken for granted.

On a related note: the Van Dijk/Liverpool transfer speculation has died down over the last couple of weeks, but the £40m-rated Dutchman should definitely be Klopp's transfer list for the summer (IMO).
