Klopp to Sign? Liverpool want 'fantastic' £25m attacker who rejected 'Man Utd' transfer

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is once again being linked with a January raid on the Russian Premier League.

Last month, Sky Sports claimed that Liverpool are planning a £25m move for Spartak Moscow attacker Quincy Promes, and according to ESPN this week:

* Liverpool are planning a move for Promes to 'offer cover' for Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho.

* Klopp 'tried to sign Promes for Borussia Dortmund' during his time in the Bundesliga.

When asked recently about Promes' future, Spartak boss Dmitry Alenichev told Sport Express:

"Many clubs are interested but we are going to talk to him [Promes]. Even if Jose Mourinho comes calling, we will not let him go. I want to keep working with him".

Some info about Promes:

* 24-year old right-winger, who can also play on the left, or as as striker. Contract expires: 2021

* Spartak: 37 goals/20 assists (57) in 78 apps (One every 118 mins).

* This season: 13 goals/assists in 17 apps (One every 111 mins).

* Apr 2015: On rejecting Man Utd: "There was interest but, I felt I wasn’t ready for a move to Man Utd”.

* Mar 2016: Netherlands coach Danny Blind's assessment: "Promes has put in some fantastic performances, and is playing at a very high level".

* Mar 2016: Blind on Promes' versatility: "He can play on either wing and also around a target man. He scores goals and can stretch defences".

Given the recent spate of injuries to key attacking players, it makes sense to bring in extra attacking cover in January. Promes has good pedigree, and for me, there are two big positives to the deal:

* At the age of 24, Promes is not some untested teenager and/or inexperienced young player. This should, in theory, increase the probability that he'll hit the ground running.

* Promes has missed only three games through injury in the last three years.

A good option?
