Deal Close? Liverpool now free to sign 'superb' powerhouse for £25m. Klopp wants January transfer

Liverpool are currently linked with a move for 'superb' Southampton star Virgil Van Dijk, and it looks like the Reds could sign him for a lower fee than the hype suggests.

Last week, Saints legend Matt Le Tissier claimed:

"It would take £40-50m to get Virgil van Dijk [who] is probably the best centre-back in the Premier League. Hopefully, we don’t lose him in January".

According to Sky Sports, though, Van Dijk is available for for 50% less than Le Tissier's claimed price:

"Southampton could struggle to keep hold of Virgil van Dijk in January as he has a buy out clause of £25m".

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has also confirms the £25m clause, and further claims:

"Liverpool have sent scouts to watch Van Dijk every week for the last two months. They want to sign him in January, and are willing to pay £25m".

£25m is certainly more palatable than £50m, and is more in line with the prices Liverpool paid for Sakho and Lovren. With Joel Matip possibly on the way to the African Cup of Nations, the need for a solid central defender may become acute.

Is Van Dijk the answer?
