Contact Made: Liverpool handed big chance to seal transfer for 'exceptional' £20m star. Done deal in January?

West Ham have reportedly made contact with one of Liverpool's players to discuss the possibility of a January transfer.

According to French newspaper Le10 Sport:

"West Ham have already made an approach to sign Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho, who is interested in a deal to revive his career about several difficult months".

This follows a report in France Football earlier this month, which claimed:

"Sakho is 99.9% certain to leave Anfield in January after being banished by Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp".

I maintain that Klopp's continued isolation of Sakho is disrespectful and unwarranted. He made his mistakes, and paid the price, so continually marginalising the defender smacks of vindictiveness and/or holding a grudge.

That said, even if Sakho returned to the fold, it's unlikely he'd make the first XI. The Matip/Lovren partnership is blossoming (only one goal in the last four games), and the club has now kept three clean sheets in a row.

Clearly, it's time to leave, and after rejecting a move in the summer (as he was entitled to do), I doubt Sakho will think twice about leaving now.

West Ham need Sakho; Liverpool do not, so the move makes sense.
