If you could sign one player from any Premier League team, who would it be?
When asked this question last night, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports:
"I’d go for David De Gea. He’s one of the top goalkeepers in the world. He can play with his feet, and Jurgen Klopp likes that. He's been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, and he’d suit Liverpool".
Over the last three years, De Gea is (statistically) one of the most effective goalkeepers in Europe, so I'm sure most teams in the world would jump at the chance to have the Spaniard in goal.
As Carra clarified, though:
"Unfortunately, there's more chance of me supporting Man Utd than De Gea signing for Liverpool".
Carra recently claimed that De Gea is 'up there with Manuel Neuer, but the Spaniard's stats this season don't support that contention:
* Neuer: 13 GC in 20 games (One every 138 mins). 8 clean sheets (40% of games)
* De Gea: 22 GC in 20 games (One every 81 mins). 5 clean sheets (22% of games)
Even the increasingly maligned Loris Karius is outperforming De Gea:
* Karius: 10 GC in 10 games (One every 90 mins). 4 clean sheets (40% of games)
On the subject of Karius and De Gea - A few weeks ago, ex-Red Nigel Spackman told LFC TV:
“David de Gea got criticised for not commanding his area, but he has gone on to become one of the best in the world. Loris Karius can do the same".
A possibility, or wishful thinking?
^ De Gea: €46m-rated (CIES Football Observatory). Hailed as 'world-class' by Ray Wilkins.
