Legend insists: 'Liverpool' would 'like' to sign 'top-class' €46m Manchester United star. No-brainer?

Manc legend Paul McGrath claims that Liverpool would love to sign one of Manchester United's top players.

Speaking to Sunday World on Monday (no, that's not a typo!), McGrath claimed:

"[Liverpool] would like to have David De Gea between the sticks. He is a top-class keeper and has proved as much in the Premier League battles against Liverpool over the last couple of years".

Well, duh! This is a no-brainer, really. Over the last three years, De Gea is (statistically) one of the most effective goalkeepers in Europe, so I'm sure most teams in the world would jump at the chance to have the Spaniard in goal.

Red legend Jamie Carragher is also a fan of De Gea, and after his masterclass against Liverpool at the weekend, he raved^:

"He [De Gea] is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and he's right up there with Manuel Neuer right now".

De Gea is good, but he's not that good. 'Right now', Neuer remains in a different league to De Gea, and their comparative stats this season show that:

* Neuer: 6 goals conceded in 12 games (One every 180 mins). 7 clean sheets (58% of games)

* De Gea: 10 goals conceded in 10 games (One every 90 mins). 3 clean sheets (30% of games)

^ De Gea: €46m-rated (CIES Football Observatory). Hailed this week as 'world-class' by Ray Wilkins.
