Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has single out one of Liverpool's attacking players for individual praise.
Speaking to Sky Sports this week, Thommo hailed Sadio Mane's impact, but reserved special praise for Brazilian attacker Roberto Firmino:
"The quality of the football that this side has played which has been fantastic to watch, and Roberto Firmino has been truly magnificent".
Like Coutinho, Firmino has 12 goals/assists in 12 games so far this season, and the Brazilian's excellent form is the main reason Daniel Sturridge is currently stuck on the sidelines.
Both players are important for Liverpool, but Coutinho has now eclipsed Firmino on the international stage. Until this year, Firmino was ahead of his compatriot for Brazil, but since the Copa America in 2015, Firmino has slipped on the bench, and Coutinho now starts practically every game.
This pattern repeated itself for Brazil's 3-0 victory over Argentina this week, with Coutinho starting the game (and scoring a trademark long-range goal), and Firmino warming he bench until the 82nd minute.
For whatever reason, it seems that Firmino's rise at Anfield has coincided with his fall in the Brazilian pecking order.
* Firmino: €38m-rated (CIES Football Observatory). Hailed last week by Alan Shearer as 'excellent'
