'New Bale' to Anfield? Liverpool want 'irreplaceable' €17m attacker who was Klopp's top target

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in signing one of Lazar Markovic's international team-mates.

In March, Bild claimed that Kostic was Klopp's top transfer target, and according to The Independent today:

"Filip Kostic is wanted by both Tottenham and Liverpool [who] watched him last year".

Some info about €17m-rated Kostic, described in August by ex-manager Alexanger Zorniger as 'irreplaceable'.

* 24-year old left-winger, who can also play on the right, or as a number-10. Current contract expires in 2019.

* 8 goals/14 assists (22) in 63 games for Stuttgart (Goal every 568 mins. G/A every 204 mins). 12 appearances for the Serbia national team)

* Aug 2014: Stuttgart Director of Sport Fredi Bobic enthused: "Kostic is a technically capable player and prolific player with an eye for goal".

* Often described as the 'new Gareth Bale' due to his blistering pace.

Perhaps it's just me, but I fail to see how one goal every 503 minutes is an 'irreplaceable' creative return. Kostic's contribution this season (0 goals and just 1 assist in 10 games for Hamburg) is certainly not 'irreplaceable'.

That said, Kostic does have some positive attributes:

* Tall, strong, robust attacking midfielder with great pace.

* Missed less than 10 games through injury for his entire career.

* Only 23, so his best years are ahead. Plus, there's room for improvement.

Perhaps Klopp can push Kostic to realise his full potential? Liverpool fans can watch Kostic in action during Serbia's World Cup Qualifier with Wales on Saturday.
