Deal Close? Liverpool ready to agree £28m transfer for 'exceptional' striker; contact made already

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to sell one of Liverpool's most effective attacking players.

According to The Mirror:

"A number of clubs have been made aware that Sturridge is not wanted by the Reds' boss Jurgen Klopp. West Ham and Stoke are among the clubs interested".

The Daily Express adds:

"Sturridge earns £120,000 a week on Merseyside, and the Reds want £28m for the wantaway forward".

As regular visitors will know, I'm a huge fan of Sturridge, but £28m is a no-brainer, and if a club comes in with that kind of offer, the Reds should take the money and run.

Don't get me wrong: I want 'exceptional' Sturridge to stay, but he's not getting any younger, and given his prior injury history, right now is probably the optimum time to sell.

Klopp clearly doesn't rate Sturridge, and after maintaining his fitness for almost a year, his transfer value is probably at its highest level since 2013-14.

Any deal should take place in the summer, though, as Liverpool will need Sturridge when Sadio Mane leaves for the African Cup of Nations in January.
