Big News: Klopp confirms he 'spoke' with 'brilliant' €23m star and 'made a decision'. Good news?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has clarified his position on the club's goalkeepers, and it's bad news for Simon Mignolet.

Prior to the recent Manchester United game, Mignolet admitted that it 'hurts' to be relegated to the bench, and insisted that he wants to 'play again as soon as possible'.

Mignolet's pleas fell on deaf ears, and Klopp ignored him for Man United, and for the West Brom game that followed. Now, Klopp has basically made it clear that he no longer has faith in Mignolet. When asked during his pre-Spurs press conference on Monday about the goalkeeping pecking order, Klopp told reporters:

"I spoke to them both and made the decision. There's nothing else to say. I've made that decision. Loris is number one at this moment and Simon is number two. I cannot leave them in doubt".

Ouch! These words will be like a dagger to Mignolet's chest, but he only has himself to blame. The Belgian had three years to make the number-one spot his own, and he failed he simply didn't do enough to hold onto the shirt.

It's Karius's time now, and if the German 'stopper continues his good form (3 goals conceded in 5 games; 2 clean sheets), then Mignolet will face a long spell on the bench.

This snub is a bit of a choker for Mignolet; he's second choice for Belgium, and now he's second choice for Liverpool, and he has no chance of becoming Belgium's number-one if he's stuck on the bench at Anfield.

Time to leave?
