Transfer Update: Liverpool could seal surprise deal with Barcelona for 'outstanding' midfield sensation

Cameron Brannagan to Barcelona? It seems improbable, but the speculation just keeps on coming, and new reports this week suggest that the 'outstanding' midfielder is turning heads at the Nou Camp.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport:

"In a bid to avoid exorbitant transfer fees, Barcelona are searching the big European leagues for young players, and want to sign several for a reasonable price".

Sport further claims that Barcelona have a short-list of ten young talents, and Brannagan is on that list.

Barca's alleged interest in Brannagan first arose in May 2014, when The Independent claimed:

"Barcelona have watched him [Brannagan] for the last year, and have received rave scouting reports. The Catalan club is seeking him for their B side".

Then, earlier this month, the Liverpool Echo reported:

"Cameron Brannagan has attracted interest from Barcelona as the Spanish giants sent scouts to watch the youngster in Liverpool U21’s recent game against Leicester"

Brannagan can't get into Liverpool's match-day squad, and hasn't played for the first team since January, but he's being tracked by Barcelona? You couldn't make it up, and the ironic incongruity is highly amusing.

Brannagan regularly trains with the first team (and did so last Friday), but hasn't played for the senior team since January. Is he likely to get any first-team chances over the remainder of the season?
