Anfield Megadeal? 'Incredible' £77m goal-machine hails 'special' Liverpool and drops massive transfer hint

During the January transfer window, Spanish sports magazine Don Balon: claimed that Liverpool were considering a 'dizzying offer' for Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and with the coveted striker regularly praising Jurgen Klopp, is there a chance that Liverpool might be able to seal a surprise deal this summer?

In October, a Dortmund 'source' hinted that Aubemeyang would consider an 'offer to join Liverpool', and when asked about the Reds this week, the Gabon international enthused:

“Liverpool have something special...and they can win the Europa League for sure.”

Aubemeyang - hailed by Jurgen Klopp as an incredible player - also confirmed that he's open to a Premier League transfer:

“Why not? It [moving to the Prem] would be very good, very nice. We will see. I watch the Premier League for sure. There’s so much space – and I love space because then I can run!"

Dortmund will definitely consider selling, and CEO Hans Watzke confirmed this in February:

“If an offer comes [for Aubemeyang], then we need to discuss it. If it should go into the hundreds of millions, then we need to talk to the player".

Alas, Watzke also claimed that Aubemeyang will cost €100m [£77m], which is prohibitive, and, quite frankly, ridiculous.

In any event, with the famously frugal Klopp at the helm, spending €100m on a single player seems unlikely, and it shouldn't be an option anyway. Seriously, are we to believe that the Reds can't find a decent striker for less than €100m?

If that's the case, then the scouting department is not fit for purpose, and should be disbanded forthwith. Even if FSG sanctioned the money for a €100m transfer, I'd be against the deal as it's just not worth it.
