Transfer Priority? Liverpool chase 'excellent' €13m Bundesliga powerhouse to replace 'rash' LFC star

A whole raft of recent reports suggest a new left-back is a transfer priority for Liverpool this summer, and after the recent link to Caner Erkin, the latest name to enter the fray is €13m-rated German full-back Jonas Hector.

According to German newspaper Bild today:

"Liverpool are tracking FC Koln Jonas Hector [who] is seen as a replacement for Alberto Moreno".

Some info about Hector:

* 25-year old left back. Current contract expires: June 2018.

* 10 goals/assists in 124 games for Koln. 10 apps for the German national team.

* Missed only five games through injury for his entire career.

* First Koln player to make the German national team since Lukas Podolski.

* 2013-14: Rated the 2nd best defender in the Bundesliga by Kicker magazine.

* Nov 2014: Podolski' reaction to Hector's international call-up: “Hector is an excellent player and I think he will get better in the future".

* Jan 2016: Koln boss Peter Stoger's assessment: "Jonas is a very intelligent and important player. It may happen that he helps out in other positions sometimes".

* Jan 2016: Came third in Germany's 'Player of the Year' awards (behind Mesut Ozil, and Thomas Muller).

Does Moreno need to be replaced? Reds legend John Aldridge appears to think so, and in a recent column for the Liverpool Echo, he explained:

"The left-back [Moreno] has to come out. Moreno can look good going forward at times, but positionally he leaves us wide open...and he's so rash in his decision-making".

Mark Lawrenson seems to agree:

"They [Liverpool's defenders] aren't good enough. We have players like Alberto Moreno who is good going forward but just cannot defend properly".

Sell or keep?
