Top Target: Liverpool want 'fantastic' £33k-a-week international star who 'dreams' of transfer to the Premier League

Despite the glut of central midfielders at Anfield (including the soon to arrive Marko Grujic), Jurgen Klopp is reportedly considering a summer move for Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder Havard Nordveit.

According to The Mirror this weekend:

"Havard Nordtveit is on Jurgen Klopp's radar...and is a prime summer target for Liverpool. Klopp knows all about [Nordtveit], who will be available on a free at the end of the current campaign".

When asked this season about his future, Nordtveit told reporters:

"I would say it if I knew. In the end I have to listen to my instinct. We'll see when the club talks to me".

Nordtveit definitely wants a move to the Premier League at some point, and he confirmed this last season:

“(The) Premier League is every boy’s dream. It is always flattering to be linked to clubs, even if it’s just rumours.”

Some info about 25-year old Nordtveit, who is reportedly on £33k-a-week at Gladbach:

* Defensive midfielder, who can also play at centre-back or right back. Current contract expires this summer.

* 12 goals/11 assists in 158 apps for Gladbach. 24 apps for Norway.

* Arsene Wenger's assessment: "He [Nordtveit] is a fantastic character, with great quality. I had high hopes for him, but we have a number of centre backs and full backs so he didn’t get the games".

* Just 11 games missed through injury in the last 3.5 seasons.

This seems like a very Klopp-like transfer: comparatively unknown, cheap, and robust, and given Nordtveit's position (DM), it surely means the end is night for either Lucas, or Joe Allen?

I honestly believe that Allen's latest injury is the final nail in the coffin of his Anfield career. Like several others in LFC's squad, he just can't stay fit, and without that, he'll struggle to be a regular first-teamer at Anfield.

Nordtveit, on the hand, is rarely injured, but he doesn't appear to be the type of player capable of pushing Liverpool to the next level.

Squad player?
