'The Great Man': Carra raves over 'magnificent' £65k-a-week Liverpool star after powerhouse performance vs. Stoke

After the West Ham debacle at the weekend, Liverpool bounced back on Tuesday evening with an aggressive, winning performance against Stoke City, the fighting spirit of which was exemplified by Reds veteran Kolo Toure, who - according to Anfield legend Jamie Carragher - delivered a man-of-the-match performance at the hear of LFC's defence.

Reacting to Liverpool's victory, Carra enthused:

"Great result and performance from Liverpool in the circumstances! The great man Kolo Toure [was] magnificent!"

Like all defenders, Toure - who reportedly earns £65k-a-week - will make the odd mistake, but unlike with Lovren and Sakho, I never feel uneasy when he's in the team.

Sakho is prone to hospital passes, and when he's under pressure, he sometimes panics and loses the ball. Lovren can be too rash in the tackle, and his impulsiveness often leaves him out of position.

Toure is simply a solid, dependable, no-nonsense centre-back, who gets the job done with the minimum of fuss, and when he's fully fit, he's a real asset to the team. The Ivorian's stats for the game show his personal impact:

* Tackles Won: 100% (Granted, he only made one, but it was successful!)

* Clearances/Interceptions: 19 (Significantly more than anyone else, and way above the team average for the season).

* Aerial duels: Won 4

* Loss of possession: 0

Toure's passing accuracy was only 60%, but that's mainly due to his clearances, where, more often than not, he just thumped the ball out of the danger area (nothing wrong with that!)

With Lovren and Sakho both out (again), it looks like Toure is in for an extended run in the team, so hopefully he'll be able to maintain his form over the next 3-4 weeks.
