Confirmed Liverpool Team: Last-ditch injury blow; Klopp dumps 'massive' attacker; forgotten man returns

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has named a very disappointing lineup for tonight's League Cup semi-final clash with Stoke City.

FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Clyne, Toure, Lovren, Moreno, Lucas, Can, Allen, Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino

SUBS: Bogdan, Milner, Benteke, Brannagan, Ibe, Smith, Randall

STOKE: Butland, Pieters, Wollscheid, Shawcross, Johnson, Cameron, Whelan, Arnautovic, Afellay, Shaqiri, Bojan

* Like Rodgers before him, Klopp continues to show blind faith in underperforming players, and in this case, he's totally ignored the club all of the club's Academy players to give the likes of Lallana, and Firmino yet another chance to fail.

* According to the Liverpool Echo: "Sakho missing due to injury and Benteke dropped to the bench with Firmino starting up front. Milner named among subs"..

* Sakho is becoming another perennial sicknote, and the sooner Liverpool sign a robust, injury free central defender, the better.

* Teixeira not even in the match-day squad? What an absolute joke. The Portuguese needs to leave Liverpool ASAP, and attempt to resurrect his career elsewhere.

* Dietmar Hamann's view: "Tonight could be a defining moment early in Klopp's Liverpool career as it seems he's losing faith in most of his squad".

* Benteke dropped to the bench, yet Lallana - who hasn't scored a league goal for nearly 13 months - gets picked again? Another joke decision.

Probable formation:

------------------ Mignolet
Clyne ------ Lovren ---- Toure --- Moreno
--------- Allen --- Lucas -- Can
----------- Coutinho -- Lallana
------------------ Firmino

No width, no pace, no goalscorers, and (bar Coutinho), no real game-changers. Liverpool are capable of winning the match, but this team is distinctly uninspiring.
