Transfer Update: Liverpool chase exciting cut-price £4m La Liga attacker with 17 goals/assist in 94 apps

The summer transfer window closes less than two weeks ago, but Liverpool are already allegedly planning for the future, and new reports over the weekend suggest that Villarreal attacker Moisés 'Moi' Gómez is the newest name on Brendan Rodgers' transfer wish-list.

According to the Daily Mail:

"Liverpool are lining Villarreal prospect Moi Gomez. The 21-year-old left winger has been loaned out to Getafe this season after falling out with coach Marcelino".

Yes, I've never heard of him either, but here's some info about the latest comparatively unknown young player on Rodgers' radar:

* Attacking midfielder who can play on either wing.

* Current contract expires in 2018.

* 19 apps for various Spain youth teams.

* 7 goals/10 assists in 94 apps for Villareal (Goal/assist every 5.5 games)

* 2014-15: Suffered two muscle injuries (thigh and calf). 22 days out overall.

* 2014-15: Made only 17 appearances all season after being sidelined by Villareal boss Marcelino, who claimed he left Gomez on the bench so much because he 'needed an option off the bench'.

* Oct 2014: After scoring two goals for Villareal, Gomez enthused: "I give great thanks to Marcelino for trusting in me and giving me the confidence to play – I’m glad I could reward him with a couple of goals".

* Apr 2015: Reportedly a target for Real Madrid.

* Jul 2015: After signing for Getafe: "I haven't talked about what position I'll play, but I can play in the middle or wide without a problem".

Hmmm. When it comes to the recruitment of Spanish players, Rodgers' judgment in the transfer market is incredibly suspect, and I doubt Gomez is the player to end Rodgers' negative streak.

Plus, like Coutinho, Sterling, Markovic, et al, Gomez is on the small side, and Liverpool arguably need to try something different in attack.
