After only 3 goals/1 assist in 34 games this season, the jury is still very much out on £20m summer signing Lazar Markovic, but new reports suggest that the Serbian attacker may not get another chance to stake his claim at Anfield.
According to Italian newspaper Il Sussidiario:
* Inter Milan want to in sign Markovic, and are interested in a loan-to-buy agreement.
* Rodgers is allegedly 'not impressed' with Markovic, and wants to sell.
Last month, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson highlighted one specific flaw with Markovic this season:
"Lazar Markovic has got lots of ability but he never really commits a defender. He is frightened to lose the ball sometimes [and] he [can do] better than that in all honesty."
That's story of Markovic's season. At Benfica, dribbling was one of the defining features of his game, but at Liverpool, he appears reluctant to try and beat players, which suggests a lack of confidence.
Anyone who's played the game to a decent level will know that lacking self-confidence on the field can have a detrimental impact on performance.
Reticence and hesitation on the ball is swiftly followed by a fear of taking risks, and an aversion to taking proactive responsibility on the field.
Then, when that fear really takes hold, getting rid of the ball quickly and/or shooting becomes preferable to having to actually take someone on, and that sums up Markovic to a tee.
As a comparison, consider Jordon Ibe's approach: Whenever he gets the ball, the youngster's first thought is to attack the opposition and dribble past whoever is in his way.
Yes, he may lose the ball sometimes, but that's the (calculated) risk that attacking players make, and in many cases, it leads to positive attacking situations.
Bottom line: Ibe takes responsibility; Markovic shirks it. Maybe it's just typical first-season settling-in issues, but Ibe is a serious threat to Markovic's first-team chances, which possibly explains why Liverpool are allegedly willing to sell after only one season.
In October, Liverpool legend John Aldridge delivered the following withering assessment of Markovic:
"Markovic must do a whole lot better. This kid came with a big reputation, but he has looked out of his depth at Liverpool so far this season. You can’t afford to be carrying players and Markovic is a passenger".
In all seriousness, has anything changed over the last seven months, and is anything likely to change next year?
I was against the Serb's signing last summer (due to his poor goals/assists history), and at the time, I wrote:
"£26m for Adam Lallana is bad enough, but another £20m for [Markovic]? If he can't consistently create goals in Portuga he'll find it even more difficult in the Premier League. If Rodgers goes ahead, it will be his biggest transfer gamble yet, and if it fails, he will deserve the tsunami of criticism that will inevitably come his way"
To be fair to Markovic, Rodgers played him out of position at wing-back quite a few times, and that probably dented his confidence, but that doesn't change the fact that he is largely ineffective in attacking positions.
£20m is a big fee, and if Liverpool sell now, I doubt the club will that money back. As such, a loan-to-buy deal is probably the best idea; it'll put Markovic in the shop window, and if does well, he'll retains his value.
It's arguably a no-brainer. As with Alberto, Aspas, Moses, and the plethora of other Rodgers flops, I've seen enough to confidently predict that Markovic will never make it at Anfield.

As far as I'm concerned, the only place he should be loaned to is another English club.
ReplyDeleteWe need him develop according to the English game to get comfortable here.
If we can't loan him to an English club, he should be sticking around here.
And he should be played in his natural position. Not as a wing back.
Markovic deserves a 2nd chance!
ReplyDeleteLoan-to-buy to an Italian club? I think they need to learn-to-buy.
ReplyDeleteCan't agree with you on this one Jaimie, apart from The whole Rogers side of things. Although he hasn't pulled up any trees he has shown glimpses of what he could be capable of I think another season then think about getting shot if it doesn't work out. I am not at all a fan of this whole loan to buy stance we have been taking recently as all that happens is the player returns at the end of the year and is loaned out again and again until their value has plummeted and they're cherry picked off. Aquilani wasn't a bad player, he was consistently our best player in preseason 2 years running but never managed a competitive start before being loaned out. Not saying he would have produced had he stayed it might have been worth a punt considering how well those seasons went. I reckon one more year then we will be in a position to judge.
ReplyDeleteWhat a load of rubbish he needs to be played in hos preferred position the lad clearly lacks confidence because he has had no faith put in him by playing him out of position maybe you should of played him in is favoured position got the best out of him then put him in a position that is required on match day I've seen videos of this guy and he is a brilliant talented young lad. I love the fact Rodgers always uses the term we showed steel today with our game. How about you apply some steel and stand by him he's played a better role for the team than Rodgers had all season why did you always play can out of position all the time when he was a threat going forward but too far bk to make a considerable impact on the game
ReplyDeletePerhaps playing him as a left sided attacker (his natural and preferred position) rather than a right sided wing back may help his confidence! Losing the ball when you have the comfort of a fullback protecting you if you do lose the ball is not such a big deal both in a game and in a players head
ReplyDeleteif all he had to do was attack we would be fine but rodgers has all the players confused with the systems .He changes frim diamond to wing backs to 442 to 433 all during one game...he has to go .Anyone who thinks toure and wisdom deserve a red jersey should be shot.
ReplyDeleteMatic was quoted in the Mirror as saying: "What can I say about our Markovic? It was excellent playing with this fantastic kid for six months.
ReplyDelete"He has such massive potential that if he changed his attitude in training he could be one of Europe's best players in his position. But he's young, he'll mature, and then nobody will be able to stop him!"
Key word: Training
Get rid. No skill, poor touch, headless chicken. The only positive attribute is his ability to run, he should have been a 800m runner. Not his fault though, I blame Rodgers. We have Ibe, Markovic was never needed. The fee was too high, it probably made everybody think he was ready made quality. £20mill down the drain, money which could have been spent on a striker. In the few games Ibe has played you can see potential, I haven't seen anything like that in Markovic.
ReplyDeletesad.
ReplyDeleteIn the hindsight, Downing was a relatively better value for 20mn unless we manage to sell Markovic for a good fee.
ReplyDeleteThat epitomises lfc. Downing by premier league standards is maybe just above average, our beloved club replaces such a player with a below average player. So the cycle continues........
ReplyDeleteBrendan Rodgers: Liverpool co-owner to meet manager this week. BBC
ReplyDeleteMaybe if Markovic is not constantly being played at RWB which he is clearly is not and instead being played as a forward which he is then maybe he will improve?
ReplyDeleteWhen we discuss how any of our players did this season we must take into account the fact that this was a disastrous season.
ReplyDeleteLost Suarez and, more or less Daniel, Gerrard was too old to pull us up and announced departure, injuries were numerous, we had another transfer saga, many new players, and Brendan bottled it quite a few times.
Even if it was Coutinho or Henderson that had a poor season I would cut them some slack, and there is no way I will be furious at a youngster with no EPL experience that originally comes from such a league as Serbian, who was played occasionally (and out of the position) and whose job is to create goals-the hardest job in a team, a job all of our players struggled.
Or a first, in his position..
ReplyDeleteLet's put this into perspective. The kid is only 20-21 years old in his first season in the EPL and not only that, he's been played out of position. What do we expect from him ? He 100% deserves a second chance he's shown flashes of brilliance he will come good imo. Does anyone remember a similar scenario with JH and look how that turned out...
ReplyDeleteBut the same goes for Lallana, Sterling, Ibe, Henderson and Can?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point in playing any of these players at RWB or RB?
The players do not know where and how. Coutinho and Lallana as strikers too. It cannot continue like this. Next balotelli will be deployed as a DM and Allen as our striker. The manager is out of his depth and will just do further damage if he stays on.
Loan out a £20m player? Where is the logic?
ReplyDeleteHA got some great news Jamie looks like we have won the race for Milner ;) don't get too excited eh
ReplyDeleteWe'll know by the end of the week.
ReplyDeletemarkovic = run fast, crash into defender, lose ball, fall down, chase, repeat. I think the article is spot on frankly. I saw no passes from the guy so even if he was "frightened" we should have seen some passing skill right? I know he is young and located into a strange country where he needs to learn the language and culture etc. Valid points but once you are on the field I would think skills would show up eventually whether in a league game or one of the endless tournament games. If he showed some, I must have missed it. I would sell but if no takers, at least loan him out......
ReplyDeleteHe did show some. Not many, but he did..
ReplyDeleteRodgers even has troubles with his ex. Sitting in the naughty corner.
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember him linking up well with Moreno.
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of napalm in the morning!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, it appears Klopp is taking some time off so doesn't sound like he is coming to Anfield........Logan, you may get a call in the next 72 hours from our personnel committee............
ReplyDeleteRodgers' personal life has nothing to do with anything, so do not reference it on the site. Football-related issues only. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHe obviously is not going through a very comfortable time in his career...
ReplyDeletesad update on transfers. I read that lacazette aint coming our way. That is a huge disappointment........... especially if he lands at Manu or Ars-enal.....
ReplyDeleteNoted.
ReplyDeleteLacazette can cherry pick any team which is going to guarantee success. We are not included.
ReplyDeleteFor £10mill yes I agree with you, but for £20mill I want to see immediate impact. Assists and goals, nothing less!
ReplyDeleteNot his fault he cost £20 million mate
ReplyDeleteYea... for one game at the beginning of hte season and then Rodgers didn't play them on the same side again
ReplyDeleteWe all know managers say one thing and do the exact opposite. The media are aching to know where Klopp wants to go next and he clearly is not interested in telling them.
ReplyDeleteHe has been very vague with his comments about taking a break. Unless he knows he has a job lined up in a year or so from now then that would be a reason to take a break. Right now he will job offers coming out of his ears and I am pretty sure LFC will be one of his options at this point.
It does go the same for the others... but the difference is that outside of Can, at least the others had some level of English game experience prior to this season.
ReplyDeleteOne of my personal peeves with Rodgers' transfer record is his desire to find versatile players, players who don't necessarily specialize in one position but can play 3 different positions. It's nice when we need to change a style, but at some point we need guys who are exceptional at one thing as opposed to average to very good at three positions.
In Serbian league the talent was more than enough. In Portugesse, playing in the best team that has all that quality, enough. Here...
ReplyDeleteNobody is going to pay £20m for Markovic no matter how long he goes on loan for.
ReplyDelete"After seven intense and emotional years, I think it's a good idea to let the numerous memories settle in before I take on a new challenge with my team refreshed and motivated. I'm going to take a break until further notice,"
ReplyDeleteAs much as I'd be in favor of Klopp coming here as Rodgers' replacement, that statement is not one of a man who's looking to take a week or two off.
While it's not necessarily the clearest soliloquy (in the sense that he didn't specifically say 6 months or 12 months), it's not really all that vague either.
Everyone who is not calling for his immediate execution is labeled such. Goes with the territory in these tumultuous days, you rose tinted glasses wearing frea k!
ReplyDeleteVersatility is a great thing when your team already has a winning mentality, but you need specialists to built it first. We proved it last season. And this season too- that it's worth nothing if you are not a winning side already..
ReplyDeleteIt has nothing to do with who the "best" is... :)
ReplyDelete"I'm going to take a break until further notice,"
ReplyDeleteHe is not giving anything away. He either has a job lined up for next season or just wanted to get the media off his back at the moment. The reports of being approached by Fenerbahce is just the start. He is one of the most sought after young managers and will be in the papers almost every day until he is appointed by another club.
It is Johnson's!
ReplyDeleteThat's not what I said..."He might be worth 20M and played properly." As long as BR is here, he's never going to play, and he's never going to develop. If he goes on loan, he'll get game time, and probably improve as most young players do when played consistently. Heck, he might even become that 20M player we wanted. But again, if he rots on our bench, nothing will happen.
ReplyDeleteBoth Ibe and Markovic average 1.2 dribbles a game.
ReplyDeleteIt's very difficult to make a decision like this without seeing how the player has developed and how he has settled off the field.
ReplyDeleteIf Rodgers doesn't think he can make the grade and/or the player hasn't settled, then it's probably best he moves on and if that has to be on a loan with option to buy then fair enough. That being said, we've been screwed before in these situations (Aquilani).
Hopefully the lad has just needed a year to settle in and get up to speed with the requirements of the Premier League and with an appropriate RB signed up this summer, perhaps in his second season he'll live up to some of his hype and price tag
In any event, we should not loan any player with a option to buy to any Italian team, they are so clever they're interested in only in using the player for FREE. Just ask Aquillani
ReplyDeletewhat a breathtaking pic;-)
ReplyDeleteI realise that. Which is why I blame Rodgers & the committee. I think we've been ripped off!
ReplyDeleteStop loaning players to cheap Italian clubs. They either pay up or shut up. We should give him another year. Next year will be do or die for young Lazar.
ReplyDeleteI understand you like Markovic but to justify his lack of training only makes your case weaker. It also means that Matic was stupid to train hard because he was playing in the best team. Training shouldn't be correlated to a club or a league.
ReplyDeleteBut it is sad we were not even interested! Depay all over again?
ReplyDeleteUnder BR, it will be probably do or die at wing back.
ReplyDeletekeep him no brainer.had his best match at rwb...good coaching, solid performance psyche n time...theres a real player in there
ReplyDeleteI think our only option at this point is Gonzalo Higuain.
ReplyDeleteHappy with the Milner news. Great signing.
ReplyDeletehttp://m.bbc.com/sport/football/32969999
ReplyDeleteI manage more than that myself - unfortunately
ReplyDeleteThe management's idea of 'buy 'em young' means shelling out 20 mil pounds for a young player that is playing in a second tier league in Europe. Now planning to dump him just after one season. Even bigger and richer clubs such as Chelsea and Man City don't have the capacity to do it. Well done!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately we can't judge any of last summer's signings as BR has played them all out of position.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he was justifying not training hard, he was saying that in Serbia his talent was enough, in Portugal playing in the best team was enough but in the Premier League a fair amount of hard work and dedication will also be required
ReplyDelete"Great character"?
ReplyDeleteIs that you Brendan?
i would not loan him to a serie A club we dont have any luck when loaning to buy either they offer a ridiculous amount being a lot lower than agreed or send em back.
ReplyDeleteAlthough he was bad last season i think another season should see some improvement and a chance of getting his value up.
Or perhaps he just wants to see what clubs sack their manager just before the January transfer window...
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was busy drinking BORDER GOLD so I don't blame for that, especially in his debut season.
ReplyDeleteSo are we blatantly forgetting the fact that almost all of Liverpool's signings who didn't do the best at the beginning of the season all received criticism from every possible English angle?
ReplyDeleteWhile I do agree that harsh judgments should be avoided considering the fact that these are professionals, can we please take the time to realize that nearly everyone was out for Liverpool's blood, calling our season pure luck due to Suarez, and that we will fail this year, which to some extent we certainly did.
But it doesn't change the fact that players like Markovic, Balotelli and Lallana (especially the non-english ones) have taken a massive sh**t storm of criticism, and in someone like Balo's case, before even arriving?
When things like that get into your head, they affect you. Some handle it well, and others don't.
However, the fact that some of our new players may take the chop after less than a year is a very naive way to handle things. It is somewhat clear to me that Rodgers is looking for a scapegoat, and if you have been following what he has to say from the start of the season, you'll realize it's been going on for quite some time.
I believe that Klopp has stated he will be taking some time off, and Benitez is already deep in negotiations with Madrid, so our best 2 options for managers are gone. The fact that BR will most stay and Kenny was sacked after winning a cup and coming 2 places below where we are now is frightening.
I really fear for the club in 2015/16, because as I see it now, things don't look like they will get better.
Dude, lacazette has NEVER been coming. Some people knew this months ago ;)
ReplyDeleteSorry, what I was getting at was that he's planning to take off a bit of time (not just one or two weeks).
ReplyDeleteYou and I are in agreement.
If an opportunity arises before August then he won't need to wait until then. I think that's a stupid strategy anyway. Taking over a club mid-season it's not the best way to make a fresh start.
ReplyDeletebrilliant Rodgers at it again!!!!...what a waste!! FSG ...please give us ..a new coach ...who understands what it takes ...for a team like Liverpool to be back on the European stage!!!!...contending for trophies both domestically and internationally ...its sad its so so sad!!!!
ReplyDeletePlease remember that this team is the most successful team in England, but because of stupid and petty sentiments we aren't even a seeded team in Europe...Arsenal qualifies for Champions league, without even winning the league, but they are seeded in Europe!!...what is happening!!! ...i remember that even under King Kenny we won the Carling cup!!!!...
Truth be told..Modern day football doesn't in anyway entertain...weak and uncoordinated managers!! Brendan Rodgers is not doing this club any good...!!! Tell me a high caliber player who will want Liverpool now!!! A big coach attracts Big Players...Players are human beings and they have friends and also watch our matches...its so absurd that players linked with us now are players who are either rejected or past their prime!!! What is this !!! PLEASE SACK THE TRANSFER BOARD!! GET A NEW COACH!!!..before we are now linked to someone that will make us leave the seats empty at our beloved ANFIELD!!! Gerrad is the last Major player we had in recent years...imagine all the encomiums coming in from renowned world players, because of Gerrad and now we are linked to players who are not even known in their own backwards!!! I believe people should be wise enough to see what Brendan Rodgers is doing !!...trying to build a new Liverpool in his OWN IMAGE, forgetting that the club is bigger that his antics!!! we are tired !!! The players that performed last season where not even his BUYS!! Suarez was the pivotal point of our team last season!!! and he brought the best out in all our players!!! his work rate and skills were exceptional!!! but he replaced Suarez with a bunch of mid table players...who haven't won a trophy in their playing careers.
Please J.K stop giving us sensational headlines about players coming to Liverpool fc!! I love your write ups and you analysis, but we need to call a spade a spade!! 90% of English players are average...and because of the hype and amount paid for these players you wonder where these managers come from...!!
another statistic we all fail to realize is that the first four teams in England have the bulk of English players in their youth set ups!!! but the Main team is 90% foreign 10% English!!! Get us Quality players from Spain(Like Benitez did) Also go to Holland,Czech Republic South America...Get us players with real Talent...
Finally, Suarez left Liverpool to go to Barcelona. He already has two trophies under his belt and moreover he is going to win the champions league!! Show me a quality replacement we are trying to Get!! Is it Benteke,Ings??? etc WHAT A JOKE!!!
Please FSG, should get us a new coach of European pedigree and a new transfer board!! No more sentiments!!! We aren't the only team with Legends!!! let us have a New lease of life!!! PLEASE!!!!!!
As Jock explains below. Thought it is obvious what I mean..
ReplyDeleteYes. Thanks Jock..
ReplyDeleteAgreed but if there's nothing he fancies available then what choice does he have
ReplyDeleteI don't see why he'd plan to wait until January. He'd only do that if he's after a really big club, and those clubs generally don't sack their managers mid-season unless it's going reallllly badly
ReplyDeleteAnd as I said...training is required everywhere and shouldnt be correlated with league or club.
ReplyDeleteSell to the highest bidder. He's a scared little lamb, a dear caught in the headlights, a small nemo in a very big pond who runs with the ball way too far ahead of him and in straight lines....
ReplyDeleteRodgers is not impressed? Well thank God no one said "Hey Brenno, signing an untested, unproven 20 year old for 20 million is ludicrous" when he signed him. He might have known otherwise. The only person that has to go is Rodgers. Then let the new manager decide what players he'll work with.
ReplyDeleteYou dont get it. Hes one for the future. One day he'll be Zidane and Illori will be Beckenbauer
ReplyDeletetell that to Bodgers
ReplyDeleteFirstly this article is just hear say, more made up nonsense by a news site looking to attract more readers by false claims...typical media. Secondly, at this stage it is even clear to a blind Stevie Wonder that FSG are clueless to the workings of Premiership Football. The sooner they outed the better. The team is in disarray. This is what happens when an inexperienced manager is given the rains to a club such as Liverpool. The manager has not got the respect of world class talent who will not join the club because of his lack of presence, world class players that develop at Liverpool will and have left. And then there is the mess that is the boardroom and transfer comity. All in all Americans and their kind, more Americans should be banned from having ownership of ANY english club. After all, what works in baseball and yank football doesn't work for the premiership. This is the first article I have read from this site in over a year. Now I remember why....Note to Jamie K..maybe you should find a job as something else because...
ReplyDeleteYou've just restored my faith in humanity, Jimbob.
ReplyDeleteWell, you and Jimmy Riffel from Gator Boys after one particularly heartwarming episode. Peace.
Ok leme start off with an illustration.
ReplyDeleteGerrard, Owen, Arbaloa, Alonso, Macherano, Henderson, Cuthionio.
Of the names listed above, How many had awesome BREAKTHROUGH FIRST SEASON at Liverpool when they were "20 YEARS OLD"?
(Yes I am aware, not all were 20 when they joined LFC but They all had their first season)
And the people Ive listed here are not 2 bit players. These became the STAPLE of our team! Some we would welcome with OPEN ARMS BACK INTO OUR TEAM. Many that we call LEGENDS.
And the last time I checked, we weren't Real Madrid, who threw away their manager and sold players like used TP.
Im not saying Rodgers is God and his word shouldn't be questioned (I was also part of the RODGERS GATA GO camp until I had a convo with my bro {Also a fellow Red}), but we mustn't forget that he is a LFC Manager. He was brought in to do one thing. To rebuild LFC. Which is precisely what he has done.
Come next season, he will only have Lucas and Martin as the players he inherited. The rest would be his players, players that he brought and remoulded.
Yes we havn't won anything and yes it was fustrating to come soo close then slump back down, but we shouldn't forget the good that has come off it.But I digress.
None of us can predict what who might become. Hendo is the perfect example. After his first season, many were saying pretty much the same things being said here about Marco. Now Hendo is going to be the Captain next season and deservedly so(Please refute me if you feel so {And yes Skrtle is awesome as well} but back to the point).
As far as Marco is concerned, Im not saying he is going to be
anything close to any of the players i listed earlier. Im not saying he
would be even fit to bring them water to be frank, as I am NOT
CLAIRVOYANT.
All I'm saying is, Don't write off a "20 YEAR OLD" player after his "FIRST SEASON IN A NEW LEAGUE".
Right on!
ReplyDeleteRodgers and the transfer committee haven't rebuilt LFC they've downgraded almost every player in the squad from keeper to striker. Rebuilding would normally mean improving but can anyone honestly say the squad we have today is better than what we had before Rodgers came in. Also got to remember the young academy lads Sterling, Ibe etc were already at the club.
ReplyDeleteHes got to be given another season before we can pass judgement. Very harsh to disregard a 20 year old going to new a new country, culture etc after one season. I would like to see him given the instruction to be an attacking winger and see how he does. I think being asked to do some much on the defensive side is holding him back.
ReplyDeleteHendo Captain??? A player that can command the respect of players??...which planet are u from??? i rather have Skertel...IMO he is the best and most consistent player and gives his all in all games...Brendan hasn't bought any captain material and its ridiculous thinking and talking about giving him time...Chelsea hired and sacked coaches and have won all there is to win in football in a 10yr stretch...Do u understand!! ...
ReplyDeletewhat are you talking? your sentence makes no sense at all.
ReplyDeletelol "many of them legends"
ReplyDeleteapart from Gerrard and Alonso, none
How short sighted from the team if true. His problem was being played at wing-back and also not being allowed to grow. He may or may not be the real deal but we don't know yet.
ReplyDeleteIF Sterling is leaving it'd be stupid to sell him. This musical chairs of players is pointless, if we sell Sterling, keep Markovic in the squad as if they don't we all KNOW that Rodgers/TC will sign another player at about his level like N'Tep or Redmond. Might as well stick with Markovic in that regard then.
BR is the only idiot who'd play someone out of position then when they perform inadequately, he huffs and puffs and sells them. Markovic has loads of talent in his natural position and the fact that BR didn't do so shows both his inexperience and ignorance as a manger. Not someone I'd want managing LFC IMO.
ReplyDeleteThere is no point in loaning him out, but even if there was, not to Italy, not to Inter.
ReplyDeleteItalian teams always screw us over transfers. He'll be sitting at their bench instead of ours and come back 7 mil. player.
What's the point in signing 20 year old players if they can't get 1 season to adjust and next season to show what they got?
Completely agree. Italian teams are the worst when it comes to honoring agreements.
ReplyDeleteBut liverpool-kop always puts rubbish claims as news, so don't read much in to it.
if a player gets subbed all the time it going to affect his confidence and that what Ive seen with Markovic this season. I would love him to play in the hole more often I thought against spurs he had a very good game in that role. I think another manager would get the best out of Markovic so he should hang around for one more season to see what will happen in the future.
ReplyDeletemaybe not to us but don't be shocked if he shows up on a team above us..............(which I am NOT hoping for) I 'm just frustrated by our last season and the last three transfer windows which have yielded nearly zero while those around us improved.....
ReplyDeleteDEAR GOD I hope you are right!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDo you think Klopp would change that? Remember Manu was in shambles and LVG made a big difference..
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, even at Partizan and Benfica he was average. If Markovic was a 24 year old we would have never bought him.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I was quite amazed we bought him for that much money, he wasn't even a concrete 1st started at Benfica.
This shows the knowledge the committee has when it comes to players.
We need to give the kid another chance and actually play him in his position instead of LWB, what nonsense.
It's not his fault he's cost £20M and is being played out of position. I expect him to improve next season. That's the issue with buying potential, they take time in settling, some never do (Babel).
A season loan move to Inter? they aren't in Europe so what's the point? He better off staying at Liverpool and being part of our Europa league squad where he might actually perform better with it being a slower pace etc
ReplyDeleteI think Marko is the future of our club, not just him of course, but the right age & technical ability. With good coaching, personal stability etc, he may turn world class along with J Ibe, Hendo, Phil Coutinho et al. These are at a great age for the club, a young, talented but raw LFC. We are definitely entering a new age with our club, & I have absolutely no idea what next season holds for us.
ReplyDeleteThe fee of £20 million is unimportant, that isn't the players fault, the fact is he's a raw young player with talent who is playing in a new country at a big club. If he was older with more experience then I couldn't defend him but he's just a kid. The transfer policy is buy young talent with potential, that is what Markovic is, he needs time and protecting, not selling at a loss.
ReplyDeleteL Markovic should be sold or loaned, he is too weak and feeble. And until he gets that fear factor out of his game he will struggle to succeed in the Premiership. He has all the key attributes to be top class winger but he should does not have the courage at moment to get at full backs and defenders like IBE or Sterling.
ReplyDeleteAnd he should be loaned or sold this summer, if he is loaned it should be with to buy for £16M. As most of the signings we have made and loaned out, when we do sell them and eventually get them off books its normally for considerable loss.
This is why the abysmal, comical, diabolical and shambolic transfer committee and B Rodgers should be shown the door.
So apart from alonso and Gerrard, None became out mainstay team for well over half a decade??
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize we had Chelsea's Money as well?
ReplyDeleteAnd Yes i agree on the Skertel bit, but the way you or I feel is not gonna make much of a diff come dec. We don't see them training, we don't see them in the dug-out or the locker rooms. So I think the people who do should make the call.
Thank You!!!!
ReplyDeleteHah.. You're welcome..
