Inside Info: Journo confirms 'Liverpool' transfer for 'extraordinary' £20m international playmaker is 'not' happening

Inter Milan star mateo Kovacic is reportedly one of Liverpool's top transfer targets this summer, but a new report now claims that the speculation may be wide of the mark.

The story so far:

* May 2015: ESPN 'sources' claimed that Liverpool 'executives' held a secret transfer meeting with £20m-rated Kovacic.

* June 2015: Croatian newspaper Vecernji list then claimed that Liverpool have allegedly 'agreed personal terms' with Kovacic, who 'wants to join LFC'.

On Monday, however, The Mirror's David Anderson claimed:

"I am told by someone who knows that Liverpool are not interested in Inter Milan's Mateo Kovacic".

A day later, the Daily Mail claimed:

"Liverpool say Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic is not a [transfer] target".

Liverpool 'say'? No one at Liverpool has publicly confirmed or denied the club's alleged interest in Kovacic, so this suggests that the Mail has some inside information on the issue. Or, it could be made up (!)

The other available evidence suggests also suggested that Liverpool are not pursuing Kovacic. For example, last week, Milan boss Roberto Mancini - who recently claimed that Kovacic is an 'extraordinary' player - told reporters:

“I think he [Kovacic] will stay at Inter. I don’t think there is anything going on with him regarding a transfer.”

Soon after, Kovacic also dismissed reports linking him with a move to Liverpool.

“Liverpool? I signed a contract to 2019, but you never know in football. At this moment I can say that I am 100 per cent staying at Inter".

If Liverpool are genuinely not interested in Kovacic, then it makes perfect sense - why pursue a technically gifted Croatian when there are dozens of average huff-and-puff British footballers available?

In my view, a £20m+ transfer fee for Kovacic is a massive risk, but for the right price (i.e. £12m-£15m), he's a good option to consider.

As a replacement for Steven Gerrard, though, Kovacic is a non-starter; Liverpool arguable need an experienced, top-class international midfielder to (partly) fill the void, and the Croatian 'aint it.

Of wait - I forgot; Liverpool have James Milner...

  1. Oooh nearly JK, you did so well until the end...... Milner is getting more column inches than Sterling now :)

  2. To be fair Liverpool have neither confirmed or denied anything about anything

    ReplyDelete
  3. Very good player, but looks a little bit like a no.10 to me so don't know why LFC would be interested given the fact that we've got both coutinho and lallana. Sign Firmino dammit!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Also been reported that we have offered Balo plus cash to Inter as part of a swap deal, not from the most credible or likeable of sources, the star, but then if we're taking note of any paper talk, why not throw that into the mix.
I predict the reported status of our interest in kovacic will continue to fluctuate for a while longer but really hope it will culminate in him pictured in an LFC shirt.

  5. What a non-story, Jamie K with some bullshit regurgitated nonsense as usual

    ReplyDelete
  6. Anyone who was stupid enough to think this was actually going to happen has not been paying attention for the past 3 years under this manager... given our horrid transfer summer and the just released schedule I am not going to be surprised at all when we are sitting either in, or just above, relegation after 5 games... lets just hope a quality manager is still available in Jan...

    ReplyDelete
  7. I know it may sound weird but im sure Rafa would have loved JFM if he was here;)

  8. Starting to recycle same old articles Jaimie or I'm starting to suffer from dementia?

  9. and another 12 year-old, PATHETIC

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am surprised we did not go after Micah Richards, he just signed for AV.

    ReplyDelete
  11. You going to watch Serbia v Germany in the U21s?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Agree Jaimie, at £20m, young, new country, League 100 times more physical than the Serie A and most likely does not know a word of English it will be very difficult for him to settle just like in a case of Markovic.

Many reports however have said that a fee was agreed. Even the Echo so maybe something went wrong when before the deal was being concluded so there is every chance the deal could still go through. Look how many times the Moreno deal was on and then off.

We should rather go for an experienced DM which up there with our highest priority alongside a prolific striker.but unfortunately DM is not going to happen with Rodgers around. Joe Allen or Milneer will most likely be the players to sit in front of our defence.

    Blood bath!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Klopp's sabbatical ends in January so he will be available then.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I do not care when it ends, just get the bloke at Anfield ASAP!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Something tells me Rodgers won't go for a DM anymore, look at the number of DMs were linked with? absolutely none and bloody West ham are closing on Song.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm surprised you brought this up!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just about to watch Emre Can playing DM for the Germany U21s... we do still have him... and Lucas...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I wonder if we actually inquired about Sami Khedira?

One hell of a player, one which would have improved our midfield immensely and no disrespect, more than what Milner would have.

    ReplyDelete
  19. When has Rodgers played Can in midfield and Lucas most likely will leave if the opportunity strikes, which he has admitted to.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, but obviously Can will eventually move into midfield. Probably this season. He played there on a number of occasions last season in fact, often moved there after tactical switches.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm talking about an assured DM Robo, like Khedira, Kondogbia or even Alex Song...one that got away.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Can number of occasions in our midfield last season? Measured how?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I like this site because of the well written articles and active debate, but for the last 6 weeks I read nothing but pessimism. It is disappointing to constantly hear people grumbling about Rogers and players we are linked with and how we will achieve nothing next season. All teams go through tough patches. It's not all bad. Let's try to look a bit at the bright side. We have some good young players and who knows, maybe some will surprise us. If we don't make the CL next season, well it won't be the first time we have missed out. In fact, last season was our first in the CL since 2009.

All I am saying is lets not just focus on the bad. Let's not give up before the season has even started.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Don't fancy Song or Khedira myself at this point, not the mobility to cope with the Premier League any more as I think Song showed at West Ham in the end. There's little point buying promising players to develop and then just installing senior pros in ahead of them for short-term gains. Can is our DM for next season. We probably have a more pressing need for a player in midfield who can fulfll a number of roles -- so yeah, Kondogbia, though I think he's out of reach for us, or players like Nainggolan, which are quite common presently.

    ReplyDelete
  25. IMO we were never after him in the first place. I'm starting to think Rodgers, Ayre and the transfer committee have some underlying confidence players when it comes to star names.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah, I'd say more than 10. Measured by watching the games and remembering what happened in them.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sorry, mate, but your name will be changing come August. What happens vis a vis our bet if BR is sacked by Christmas?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Not sure about a crocodile it should be a scorpion ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's not gonna cut it, Robo. You obviously wear rose-tinted glasses.

    ReplyDelete
  30. They were asked if they had confirmed or denied anything but they wouldn't say

    ReplyDelete
  31. OK Nainggolan is also really fine, just can't see it happening though under current regime... we have spent well over 200 m these 3 years and not one star player... absolutely staggering

    ReplyDelete
  32. Which matches? Come on you want to be clever.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I saw that old favourite the Arda Turan rumour again the other day

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can IMO is more of a box to box or AM style midfielder than a DM. He does not yet have the tactical awareness and discipline to play that position. His urge is always to bomb forward and he will feel restricted by DM.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Rabid anti-dentite!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nobody knows better than Robo. He is always right.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Unfortunately lost my confidence in Can after Stoke debacle...not saying the others fared any better but for now he isn't the solution IMO

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah, I think that's right, but he lacks the pace, or the acceleration, to make an impact up front. He's an unusual player. Needs game time clearly. I think his physical maturity isn't matched by the development of his game -- what do you reckon?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Saw that episode recently. It was weird to see Heisenberg as Jerry's dentist.

    ReplyDelete
  40. VS Chelsea what position did he play? DM?

Foot in mouth, not for you of course.

Question for you Sid, how many times did Can play DM last season?

    ReplyDelete
  41. You just disagree with me Logan, doesn't make me a bad person.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Are you serious? You don't remember? You are going to argue, let's be clear, that Can has never played in central midfield for Liverpool?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Zero I think man.. He either played in a mid two in the 3ATB or in a mid three in the 4-3-3 or as a CB.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Duck! I fear rotten tomatoes are coming your way.

The camp is split and there is a lot of good-spirited in-fighting.
Not all of us are pessimistic, though. It would be nice to have another level-headed person in our corner. I'll add you to the roster.

    ReplyDelete
  45. He plays the best when he has a genuine DM to do all the dirty work and allow him to shine. Against Madrid, Lucas did all the shielding allowing Can to move forward and he played well. For a player like Can, his strength makes up for his lack of pace as he can easily brush others aside and move forward. It is very hard to dispossess him once he gets going.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That is not what I said. You said a number of occasions. I asked you what matches seeing that you "Measured by watching the games and remembering what happened in them."

So tell us then if you can remember what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Can just scored for Germany U-21's

    ReplyDelete
  48. Emre Can just scored a beautiful goal for Germany! I want to see this man in midfield next season, he's easily our most technically gifted player with Coutinho

    ReplyDelete
  49. Who is also a no.10

    ReplyDelete
  50. Have you seen the toupe one?

    ReplyDelete
  51. He has been playing CB so that might help him be more disciplined though I do wonder if he is right for DM

    ReplyDelete
  52. Can with a beautiful goal for U21.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Can likes to run. As a RB he is absolutely useless and as a CB he will never make it.

Solution? Let him run as shown vs Chelsea earlier in the season.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It would good to have even one level headed person in any corner

    ReplyDelete
  55. He ain't unless we have a coach who can show him the way. We have none of those too.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Have they not been in touch yet?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well you are not Robo.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yeah mate, not sure what you meant with if they have been in touch yet.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jerry: I'm convinced he's converted to Judaism purely for the jokes.

Priest: And this offends you as a Jewish person?

Jerry: No, it offends me as a comedian.

  60. I've seen them all, but it's been a while. Wish it was available on Netflix. I should send them a daily Airing of Grievances until they decide to make it available.

    ReplyDelete
  61. On a sabbatical. Just like Klopp.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I believe all episodes are going to be on hulu plus now.

    ReplyDelete
  63. OK well, certainly Chelsea (H), Real Madrid (H), Swansea (H); I think also Swansea (A), Spurs (A) towards the end, Besiktas (A). But I expect a few match reports would turn up others. I don't really see what the point of this exercise is.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Haha.. Seinfeld is relatively new in India and they regularly broadcast it on TV. Quality, quality show..

    ReplyDelete
  65. *sad fist bump*

    ReplyDelete
  66. Heard that the other day. Don't have it though.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Good point. We need to discuss that.

But as they say, it ain't over till the fat lady sings. You seen Rodgers or his new coaching staff of late?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Number of occasions. Did he play DM?

    Get the popcorn out.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh, enough. Read above. That's not what I was arguing is it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Interesting. I can see him in that kind of role too, and that ability with the ball at his feet is obviously what made him an option at RCB / RB. I think what makes me see him as a DM is his liking to play from deep, to make long passes and to dominate in the tackle. But perhaps you're right, he's more Yaya Toure than Matic (just to get a bit hyperbolic).

    ReplyDelete
  71. You said a number of occasions. You clearly are clutching at straws when 'you can remember'.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hrubesch the U21 coach said he'd just been to Liverpool and been told Emre will assume Gerrards midfield role

    ReplyDelete
  73. Although they did confirm that they wouldn't say anything when asked if they had confirmed or denied anything

    ReplyDelete
  74. Midfield, Logan. I was talking about Can playing in midfield, you incorrigible person, and anticipating him moving to DM. Stop being such a dick to me, please. It's getting too much for me to laugh off.

    ReplyDelete
  75. He's only ten times better than what we've got ..

    ReplyDelete
  76. But with low-quality imagery;)

    ReplyDelete
  77. A fit Sturridge is a star player; most of the rest are ORDINARY

    ReplyDelete
  78. He definitely has Yaya elements in him and if managed right can even exceed him. RB is a non starter because you need someone with pace and stamina and Can seems lacking in those departments and it showed as he miserably failed. But, you saw when he was given the freedom against Bolton how he changed the game.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yet to show it offensively in a red shirt. Final ball/shot generally poor.

    ReplyDelete
  80. He has never played in a position to show it. When he did, he played well against Chelsea and Madrid and changed the game against Bolton Remember that ball that was so good that even Sterling could not mess it up.

    ReplyDelete
  81. That is assuming at the highest level.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I really wanted to sign him last summer and the ten before that, one of those players that looks like the balls glued to his feet, now I'm hoping young Emre carry's on along those lines intead, not outright pace but just - I've got the ball, you can look at it and even get close to it but somehow it will just stay in my possession, magic.

    ReplyDelete
  83. That's actually wrong. its even more infuriating because of the assuredness you stated it with. Can started against QPR away as a DM in the first half and had a horrible game. Gerrard was the advanced midfielder in said game. BR switched it at half time.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I see. If you read it back, you can see that I was talking from the start about Can playing in central midfield for Liverpool this season. You added the defensive part yourself. Just a communication problem. But you want to escalate it into being about my character for some reason. I'm not going to pretend it doesn't bother me: it does. Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Heh don't start that Logan, you still never give me that Chelsea youth list you promised

    ReplyDelete
  86. Agreed. I thought he had some very good games at RCB though, particularly when he was able to step up alongside the deepest midfielder and add himself to the press, which was an interesting feature of that formation. A few terrific cross-field passes from there out to the left. Yeah, I had seen him as an anchor-man in training, but I think you've got a better sense of his game.

    ReplyDelete
  87. There you go. Number of occasions my arse.

    ReplyDelete
  88. For me, Sturridge is the only player that Rodgers has signed for the club, who actually deserves to start every game. So for me, he was and is a star player.

    Pity he's injury prone :(

    ReplyDelete
  89. I did not argue that he did not play in midfield. I was being sarcastic if you did not notice.

Your number of occasions comment is the cherry on top.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Reading stuff on a very good site that says we're still in for kovacic but have upset inter and his agent with low ball offers and aggressive negotiating.

Inter need to raise money for own targets and are looking to sell one of kovacic or Hernanes.

Sevilla also pissed konoplyanka of apparently. Surely got to make a move for him?

Finally, how do Everton get their players for buttons? Delafeou (spelling? ) for 3m. I'd be tempted!

    ReplyDelete
  91. That may be the case, but you weaken your own argument by resorting to responses like 'my arse'. Make your point in the right manner. If people continue to argue, that's their right.

    ReplyDelete
  92. That's why we play him in defence

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yes but my point is Rodgers has not the mojo, skill, confidence or whatever is required to pull off Star signings or as you suggest, players who deserves to start for LFC. Re Sturridge and Cout, as JK says they are the exception and a series of questionable signings during his reign suggests this to be valid case.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Its fun to focus on the bad its the British way

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm sure I can get a joke out of level headed and the name Bob I just can't work out how

    ReplyDelete
  96. Ah, is that what those things are!

  97. The one with George's toupe? Classic stuff :-)

    ReplyDelete
  98. How much you pay to see a happy Logan!

    ReplyDelete
  99. One big dysfunctional family.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Can has played very little in midfield which I have proven. Robo seems to think otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  101. There Jaimie, fixed the post.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I wish someone would beam Rodgers up

    ReplyDelete
  103. You did not hear it from me.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Milner won't improve our midfield period

    ReplyDelete
  105. What is it you understand that term to mean?

To me it's just a vague term meaning "sometimes".

Do you think it means something else?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Given what happened last season, and Gerrard leaving, We expected some drastic changes in terms of personnel (be it players and staff) which push us to another level. Actions which highlight that the TC and BR learned their lessons.

Nothing so far suggests that. Yes we got Milner, who may at Best can only fill Gerrard's shoes (I personally doubt it). Which leaves the team level same as last year (Scary thought if we end up fielding the same team as last year). Granted the transfer window is still not open, but the premier league starts early this year because of the European championships and our first 12 fixtures leaves nothing to be desired.

Hence the source of the pessimism. One thing which seems to cross my mind everyday is what is BR doing?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Is that Stevie wonder

    ReplyDelete
  108. Heh this is the positive roster section! ........security! security! take this man away :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. Emre can take Gerrard role

    ReplyDelete
  110. "He played there on a number of occasions last season in fact, often moved there after tactical switches."

    Decipher please.

    ReplyDelete
  111. "In [an unspecified number of matches] in the 2014-15 season, Emre Can played in central midfield for Liverpool. Though he may have started games in other positions, substitutions and tactical changes saw him moved to midfield roles during the match."

Come 'ere and give me a manly hug. C'mon.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yes Robo, C'mon.

    ReplyDelete
  113. It comes from a lifetime of watching british football produce garbage... and choke in tournament after tournament ... and watching other teams win titles stocking up on non brit players with actual talent while we keep throwing money at the same overrated useless crap just bcuz they have the right passport...

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  123. Want to wager on that?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Far too much detail :-o

    ReplyDelete
  125. Wake up, he's never gonna get close to Gerrard

    ReplyDelete
  126. Nah, maybe some clear ones will do.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Just trying to help gil while alluding to your catchphrase.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Meanwhile in the U21 game, I just saw a German international sent off for diving. Feeling pretty emotional.

Can looks like he's from another planet to most of the other players on the pitch. Never mind AM, CM, DM -- Can always plays in an area of the pitch just slightly above the level everyone else is running around at. Fantastic.

Also quite like the Serbia right back, Filip Stojkovic. Never mind all these established internationals people keep talking about. Let's go all out for a Serbian U21 with 50-odd appearances for Cukaricki in the Serbian national league... it's the Liverpool way!

    ReplyDelete
  129. I fixed mine :-)

    ReplyDelete
  130. Not sure why you disagree tbh that's what I just said

    ReplyDelete
  131. I'm not happy with any ofd the signings. We are signing average players. The top 4 will sign much higher quality. Players win you the trophies.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Maybe he got too excited with his typing but he basically said what you did.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Klopp or whoever, will come in after we play Man City ;)

    ReplyDelete
  134. Sorry but I cannot even remember what I said, The post you replied to is gone.

    ReplyDelete
  135. If Buck resigned tomorrow, the positivity would jump 500%!

    ReplyDelete
  136. And at LFC he is being deployed as a CB?

My word, maybe we should get the U21 German coach to manage LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Hi Logan :)

    ReplyDelete
  138. What I attempted to say (obviously not clearly enough). Is that MONEY can buy virtually any star player; independent of any manager.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Lets leave that to Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  140. It's okay, you're a changed man these days so I'll let it go, although I was so looking forward to your list :)

    ReplyDelete
  141. Nope, not in all four fixtures. Obviously that last game against them was sickening but lets not suddenly be all terrified of Stoke, they are not a team we will struggle to beat next season.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Lallana and Coutinho as strikers. Balo as a lone striker. Sterling as our main striker. Lallana, Hendo, Markovic, Sterling, Ibe as RWB's. Can as a RB. And best of all, Allen and Gerrard as defensive midfielders.

    Hello Robo.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Haha do you dream of Rodgers at night?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Semantics, the same players, won us virtually all our games.

    ReplyDelete
  145. But Rodgers had no money problem and he still went for dross... obviously other factors are important beside money but again Rodgers just has not any of those thing...in other words a modest average mediocre coach with few ambitions

    ReplyDelete
  146. I have a portrait of him on my bedroom wall.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Comparing Eriksen to 5 players , presumably since his total goals/assists were superior, is nonsensical. Aspas Borini and Alberto barely played a dozen games between them. You can't replace 5 players with one as even he can't play two positions at once, and if injured you would lose the output completely, rather than have backup.
Having had a season to adjust, he score 10 goals with 2 assists in the PL , 2 more goals and 3 more assists in other competitions ie 17 goals/assists in 48 appearances
Regression, some might say. But better than we had for sure
That said I would have bought Eriksen instead of Alberto and Aspas, and said so at the time

    ReplyDelete
  148. He certainly went for the dross / potential option.

Furthermore, he is clearly in awe of experienced players who speak their mind. Kurt, Maxi, Bellamy, Reina, Agger .. all gone

    ReplyDelete
  149. good point, and soon skrtl to follow.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Heard his was stolen. I suspected you all along.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Try Sky Atlantic, they show 2 episodes between 1pm and 2pm daily during the week.. you could set it to record and watch at a more convenient time.

    ReplyDelete
  152. The kids painted over it.

    ReplyDelete
  153. To be replaced by yet another 12 year-old prospect ..

    ReplyDelete
  154. Oh that Gomez chap is knocking on the door..

    ReplyDelete
  155. The worry is, Skrtel now feels undervalued ...

    ReplyDelete
  156. And when we lose it'll be all about new playersvand having to settle in again.

    ReplyDelete
  157. It's the currency they use over at Goodison. Buttons, shells, decorative pebbles. Sad really. In their money £3m is something like 1bn Shinies, bless em.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Coutinho?

    ReplyDelete
  159. Tony Barrett ‏@TonyBarretTimes
Southampton have beaten off competition from Stoke City for Cedric Soares and have agreed a deal to sign the Sporting Lisbon right back.

    Tony Barrett ‏@TonyBarretTimes
Of course, the likely knock on effect of the Soares deal is that Liverpool will increase their offer for Nathaniel Clyne.

    Another Southampton player then.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Jaimie deleted my comment for the first time I'm here, I'm shocked :O shoud have watched but opted for Transformers AOE in full HD... fell asleep half way in -.-

    ReplyDelete
  161. We can't stop signing players from Soton just because people make fun of us! How about Clyne then, does he not float your boat, 15million sounds ok to me, as long as we don't pay over the odds.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Still too inconsistent, but getting there.

    ReplyDelete
  163. So Can was great then Robo? I wanna hear your review don't trust those guys at TIA ;)

    ReplyDelete
  164. In a good Liverpool team, he wouldn't start. With this lot ....

    ReplyDelete
  165. Wish he played for someone else, but actually looks like a decent player. No more than £15m though, too much pressure otherwise

  166. Lallana, Lovren and Lambert - £50m.

I belive we have spent enough money there especially when they finished 2 points behind us this past season.

  167. Who cares if it's a good player?
Lallana will come good this season as long as he stays fit. Lovren was £12m too much, but had just been their best defender. Forget the £4m for Lambert, we'll get that back this summer

  168. Don't wish to sound flippant but to me none of that matters at all - Is Clyne a good player and does he play in a position we need - yes and yes, wouldn't want to overpay though.

  169. Southampton are a very well organised defensive unit. Bring Clyne into the chaos of our defence and see him live up to that transfer fee.

  170. Love the spirit of this community, that0s why I keep coming back ;)

  171. Good player in our defence? I need to quit beer and change to coffee.

  174. Keeps me afloat in this turmoil. btw whatever happened to Jay Jay, he vanished, used to argue with him the best, miss that guy...

  175. Run the show? Did he score, make a few assists? ...

    ReplyDelete
  176. So because our defence is currently not the best we just give up on improving it?

    ReplyDelete
  177. he should... the is the senior head in the squad and look where that got him!

    ReplyDelete
  178. He will be back.

  179. Without any coaches who are capable of getting our defence to function?

Our defence is a shambles. Even Rodgers joked at a defensive coach arriving.

  180. Hey man, yeah, Can was on a rampage, clear man of the match, looked like a young Gerrard at times, honestly, in his all-action approach to the game if not his quality. But he scored a great goal, and played through the middle in a deep playmaking role with great enthusiasm.

But his final ball was consistently lacking, just as it is for Liverpool. Sometimes he carries the ball a bit too far, even if he does look magnificent while he does so. He made many lung-busting runs, marauding the length of the pitch, but at the same time seemed to be blowing hard at times, struggling to stay with the game in normal play. He also put in a weak tackle in the passage of play which led to Serbia's opening goal. So a typical Can performance in many respects. I think we just have to accept him for what he is, really; a unique and very gifted player, but perhaps a frustrating one too.

Anyway, it was a cracking game, and Serbia look like they have a good side. Very excited about this tournament -- there are some really good players on show. Everyone should watch it!

  181. If he doesn't get a defensive coach before pre season he should be booted even before the season starts

    ReplyDelete
  182. I'd sign him with ZERO hesitation, the Sterling money will do it ..

    ReplyDelete
  183. In a situation where Rodgers gets new coaches not picked by him will they agree? No yes men anymore.

    Disaster waiting to happen.

  184. I should have watched it but opted for Transformers in full HD and fell asleep -.- And jaimie deleted my comment too :O so u think he should be paired with a true DM and leave him to his box to box duties then? Is he ready for our midfield next season?

  185. Great stuff Robom u really nail it every time, maybe u should start your own blog :)

    ReplyDelete
  186. U really think he won't hire one? Even after lower table teams made mockery of our defensive game?

    ReplyDelete
  187. Haha, you won't get rid of me that easily!
