Done Deal: 'Happy' ex-Spurs man confirms 'two year contract' with Liverpool. Replace Jones as LFC's No. 2 'keeper?

In April, boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Liverpool are in talks with Brad Jones over signing a new deal, and with the back-up 'keeper position seemingly up for grabs, it looks like Jones could have even more competition for his place next season.

With Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward also in the squad, Liverpool are well covered in the back-up goalkeeper department, but according to the Liverpool Echo on Wednesday:

"Liverpool FC goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux has penned a new two-year contract".

The 21-year-old 'stopper confirmed the news on Twitter:

“Very happy to have signed a new two-year deal here!”

Some info about Vigoroux:

* Dual British and Chilean nationality.

* Graduated from Tottenham Hotspur's Education and Football Development Centre.

* Attended Spurs' academy, before trialling with Liverpool during the 2013-14 season.

* The official LFC website describes him as follows:

"Vigouroux is an excellent shot stopper and a good communicator"

* Played against Barcelona, Wolfsburg and Paris Saint Germain youth teams at Spurs.

* One appearance for the Chile U20 team.

* Admitted in an interview last month that he supported Chelsea for most of his life.

* His 'ultimate dream' is to 'represent Chile at the World Cup'.

Stats:

- Spurs U21: 13 goals conceded in 12 apps (1.08 per game)

- 5 clean sheets (42% of games | 1 every 2.4 games)

- LFC U21: 12 goals conceded in 10 apps (1.2 pr game)

- 3 clean sheets (25% of games | 1 every 4 games)

- TOTALS: 25 goals conceded in 22 apps (1.1 per games)

- 8 clean sheets (36% of games | 1 every 2.7 games)

If Liverpool don't sign a new goalkeeper this summer, then next season's set-up is beginning to take shape: Mignolet as number one; Jones (if he signs a new deal) as no 2; and Vigoroux fighting it out with Danny Ward for third choice 'keeper.

In other words, Mignolet may once again have no real competition. Happy days!

  1. In other news, as predicted United are due to sign Depay.

Nothing lost here, we were never going to pull this one off.

We'll probably sign Ings and BR will describe him as a "world class young player with character".

    ReplyDelete
  2. it remind me of what he said about Borini...

    ReplyDelete
  3. May 1 - Liverpool in pole position to sign Memphis Depay
May 7 - Man Utd agree deal to sign Memphis Depay

    ReplyDelete
  4. And Alllen and Markovic and Origi

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ings refused to take a penalty the other day.

"world class young player with character".

    will be Rodgers exact words!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Or best young player in Europe...

    Sorry, that was Raheem Sterling.

Got confused with the whole "refusal to take the penalty" situation

    ReplyDelete
  7. Why sign for a club which has no guarantee of success, no CL footy and a clueless manager?

Depay obviously feels he has made the right choice.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wouldn't be surprise if it's Rodgers giving false information to the Liverpool echo regarding transfer to put attention away from our awful season.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The problem is unfortunately, that I feel he made the right choice :(

I am wiping the bad thoughts from my mind. YNWA.

    ReplyDelete
  10. May 24th. We qualify for the CL, they don't.

    ReplyDelete
  11. How the ___ did we not want to stump up 30 m euro for him but yet lallana?!?!? Worst piece of transfer news this year!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Don't worry! Ian Ayre will SURELY convince this world class player to come to our club! He always does the job! I am positive we can get this player for 30m!

Wait, am I thinking about Fabian Delph?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Because he isn't english.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Do you really believe we have a shot?

    ReplyDelete
  15. We need to win against chelski for that, but I am counting on some pride and spite to work after we have to honour them as champions. And Arsen(al) will I think do everything to beat them and are a superior team. Palace away is tricky and Hull is fighting for life, so yes, I do.

    This is becoming critical.
It seems that we are actually identifying the right players, the problem is none of them seem to want to come here.
And don't tell me is just because we have Rodgers because it's been happening for seven or eight years now. It happened under Rafa, Kenny and now Rodgers.
We need to win one of these tussles. Send Kenny or Ian or John or somebody with a name direct to these players and get them bought in 24 hrs like the big boys do or we end up with gambles on 2nd string targets. AGAIN.

  17. ManU put 40million

    ReplyDelete
  18. Would you have been happy to stump up 40 million for depay. I like the guy but at his age that is a bit ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Mike Aitcheson3:02 pm, May 07, 2015

Is that the fee? Euros or Pounds?

    ReplyDelete
  20. ManU payed 40 million. I like depay but at his age that is kinda crazy. Just remember in the dutch league Jozy Altidore the up crazy good stats. Obviously Depay is different but that's a huge risk.

    ReplyDelete
  21. May 25th. You wake up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 22mn pounds is the fee. Not sure how did he arrive at 40.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mike Aitcheson3:09 pm, May 07, 2015

Too expensive a risk for us whether that's Euros or pounds.
It's not the player, he might end up brilliant or average, who knows.
It's the growing feeling that every other player we go for might feel that we are not the place to opt for anymore

    ReplyDelete
  24. Chelsea have only ever lost once at home under Mourinho.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nobody ever lost after leading 3-0 at a final..

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lallana said we are going there to spoil their celebrations :-o

    ReplyDelete
  27. And you are laughing at that comment? Yes, I can see YNWA tattooed across your chest, a reall supporter..

    ReplyDelete
  28. No wonder they say we live in past.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mike Aitcheson3:12 pm, May 07, 2015

Hands up who thinks we would have signed Depay if Klopp was Manager?

    ReplyDelete
  30. And not losing at home is not the past?!?

    ReplyDelete
  31. So you mean a fan should always be optimistic irrespective of reality

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lol..its ongoing

    ReplyDelete
  33. Not sure he would choose anyone above LVG

    ReplyDelete
  34. So we've missed out Willian, Mykhtaryan, Sanchez, Costa and Depay and the list continues.

To be honest, this is not surprising. We have not been able to attract big player for a long time, we always sign players from the B and C market, with the exception of Torres and Suarez. Suarez was Market A player from a Market B/C league.

But most all Market A players want to play for Market A clubs, and Liverpool is not a Market A club.

We are a Market A club in finances, facilities, fan base and history.

But in stature we are a Market B club (Europe-wise) on the same level as maybe Inter, Valência, Porto, Lyon, Wolfsburg etc... And even those teams have performed a lot better than us in the market.

I think the reason we tend to get so upset when we miss a target is because we are emotionally involved with the club and we still think that Liverpool is a big club. And it is in some ways, but the way the title of big clubs are used and vires has changed. Manchester City are now a big club despite limited history and fan Base. Tottenham are even a big club despite the lack of trophies.

So being a big club does not matter anymore and most clubs have resources now.

But what makes a club attractive to a Market A player is:

    - The success the club has had recently
    - Champions league competition
    - Squad potential
    - World class manager or a manager with a history of winning big trophies in big leagues
    - Money
    - Location

But if a Market B team is after a Market A player and there is no competition from a Market A team, then if the Market B team offers the player enough money he may overlook the lack of success, champions league, squad potential, world class manager if the club gives him enough money.

Of course the player with view the club as stepping stone alas Suarez. And there is nothing wrong with that to be honest.

Location also has an effect, but only if the money is right as well. Had we offered Sanchez 350k a week he would have signed with us.

Players went to Anji because of the money, and they overlooked the poor conditioning, history etc... But of course Anji was a stepping stone.

So, don't be upset about his. The club just need to be smarter with their dealings and I will let you a secret...most Market A players were once of Market B, C and D class.

We just need to improve our scouting and the way we deal with transfers and targets.

    My 2 cents.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ah..you won't have to wait till may 25 to wake up then ;-)

  36. Mike Aitcheson3:15 pm, May 07, 2015

I agree. Just thought I'd put it out there...
I'm guessing some people will disagree strongly. Let's hear from them.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You are not a fan if you believe Rodgers needs to be called a taxi. Remember that...

    ReplyDelete
  38. One more reason to rid us of the transfer committee? Check

    ReplyDelete
  39. You forgot to consider FSG's stringent wage structure. We can't do Anzhi or Monaco.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Mike Aitcheson3:20 pm, May 07, 2015

    When did anybody say that?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love the way you guys are so eager to smother any sign of optimism.
You don't believe we can win a game of football, I don't understand how can you support the club?
Should I make a list of FA cup finals, CL finals, last round of the seasons with underdogs playing to get the final prize? And their supporters being optimstic about it? Not saying we will beat them because we are better, but it is bloody possible and if there should be people believing in that, it should be us, for fcuk sake!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nobody ever said that. Ever.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm not sure. I just glanced it, they are only going to beat us with money. Disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Mike Aitcheson3:23 pm, May 07, 2015

Perfect summation of the current situation .
By the way, Suarez was a Balotelli - type risk. Lots of talent, but had issues...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Mike Aitcheson3:24 pm, May 07, 2015

    Self justification.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The problem is that we are in a situation where big-name players do not want to come to us but these are the really hyped players. In this situation, as you say, we need a great scouting network to get us the best players in Europe and sadly we do not seem to have that. Even a 10 year old who watches the PL could have scouted Lallana based on some highlights shows. It is not so easy to get a world class scouting network. You brand us along with Wolfsburg and Porto but honestly, they are higher than us at the moment. Both of the teams have beaten Bayern. Do you think we would ever be able to beat Bayern under Rodgers? These clubs have great scouting networks and that is why they are doing well. We need connections in Germany, Spain and all to get the best of the best before anyone catches on to it. If we achieve success and our board is strong enough, we build and become a world class team.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mike Aitcheson3:26 pm, May 07, 2015

And I love how it's marketed as realism. Endless pessimism is apparently a virtue and any optimism is rose coloured self delusion.
    But this is football.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Brendan Rodgers stays at LFC = Mediocrity will reign at LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Definitely. We got really lucky in that scenario. If Luis did not work out like it was looking in the first seasons, it would have been 60 mil down the drain with Carroll as well and we might have sunk further down. Suarez was a gamble and none of us knew he would succeed when he came.

    ReplyDelete
  50. We drew to west brom...lost to Hull and struggled against qpr. So if you are asking me to be optimistic with such form against one of the best teams in the world...best manager...champions. ..then yes i would wave off any kind of optimism.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Mike Aitcheson3:27 pm, May 07, 2015

You've never said that before. Thanks for letting us know your view, really adds to the debate.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Exactly.. Ever bet on a football? How many matches there were in history with the favourite not being able to lose? Them two should be billioners as they know many results before the match is payed..

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sorry mate,

Although I've just skimmed your post I gotta say I have a few issues here....

I'm not advocating we get Rafa back but honestly are you really saying had Gilly and hicks backed him to the hilt like fsg are willing when they went in for said makhitarian and sanchez and co that we wouldnt have got first choices?
We would have mate really I believe that we deffo would have...that would have been down to players wanting to work with rafa cos he proved himself in spanish league.....

Class b, c d is really valid when there is no other pull....

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mike Aitcheson3:29 pm, May 07, 2015

Exactly. All of a sudden it's a risk worth taking. When it goes like it did with Balo then it's 'clueless LFC'

    ReplyDelete
  55. Don't watch the game. And please, don't ever come to Anfield..

    ReplyDelete
  56. Suarez had on field issues while Balotelli had off field issues. Balotelli is lazy while suarez is exactly opposite. i don't think it was a gamble like Balotelli

    ReplyDelete
  57. I just looked more BBC is reporting 25-30 pounds and somehow ESPN is 30 euros.

    ReplyDelete
  58. And most importantly you change your nickname.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Rodgers made us look like i d i o t s in Europe this season, not only in the CL but also the EL.

I think with our current scouting setup even Rafa would have been able to attract better players and I am not Rafa's biggest fan. At least Rafa has pedigree in Europe which goes a long way.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Been there. Might come again if I get a chance. Sorry for the trouble

    ReplyDelete
  61. It boils down to money and opportunity.

Right now we can offer the opportunity, but we can't offer the money.

I've tried to explain ad nauseum that the Manager's role is completely overrated in the transfer process. After all, you've outlined how Rafa, Kenny, and now Rodgers are all facing the same issue.

And it all boils down to lack of CL, and lower wage offers.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mike Aitcheson3:31 pm, May 07, 2015

Being lazy is an on field issue. I didn't say they were identical, I said they were both gambles for their own reasons and possibly the reason why we were able to get a potential world class player

    ReplyDelete
  63. I feel sorry for the players you support if this is how you do it..

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yeah sid but his stats were actually amazing and he was burning up the dutch league.....gamble yes but his humility and teh fact no one else was touching him witha barge pole...that and I feel some goodwill from when rafa made us number one rank in europe made us atractive.....

    now....its very different...

    ReplyDelete
  65. I rest my case

    ReplyDelete
  66. Mike Aitcheson3:33 pm, May 07, 2015

Except last time Rafa took us into Europe we also finished 3rd in the group and he had Alonso Masch, Torres Reina and SG all in the best form of their careers..

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was never against the Balo signing but it was clear desperation as was Carroll. Suarez was still a bit more planned but still no one knew how he would turn out. Balo was hit or miss and unfortunately we missed when we really needed someone to replace Luis.

    ReplyDelete
  68. But mike alot of off field issues had reared their head by that time...

remember ayesteran the stabiliser had left and alonso was fu**** off at having to miss his kids birth etc....

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mike Aitcheson3:35 pm, May 07, 2015

    Both Rafa's doing though...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Laziness is not an issue as such. ..its the way some players play...like Ibrahimovic. Balotelli was a gamble and everyone knew as soon as we bought him. Suarez wasn't as big a name as Balotelli and his first bite incident was pretty low profile in terms of media coverage. I didn't consider him a gamble then .

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yep agree, but my point was more thefact we had a pull for top players which we dont ahve now...

The intricacies with rafa are there for any sane person to see...

however that said even with his total lack of human man management he still can attract great footie players...like LVH or MOUNNIIee or even perhaps Klopp.......... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think most of these players use Liverpool to get a better deal at the club they prefer.

    ReplyDelete
  73. people have their own way of supporting.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Mike Aitcheson3:39 pm, May 07, 2015

Who lost against Newcastle this season. And Lost quite a few in the run in last season . So?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Wow, if that is the case then LFC organising and negitiating team are a bunch of headless ididots who deserve the vitriole coming at them from us...

The best bit of advice I ever had from any martial arts teacher ..... dont take a knife to a gun fight....

    ReplyDelete
  76. I mean having known world class manager is a big pull for players. Rafa was one of the reasons Torres signed. But apart from Torres and Suarez we have not signed any ready made world class players in a long time.

I don't believe Rafa is a world class manager (IMO) but he certainly a known top class manager with a proven track record and players want to play for him.

And to be fair Torres and Suarez only became world class after they joined us, so did Alonso and Mascherano (now those were good buys).

Manchester is also situated in a location that is not favorable, but apart from location they have everything else and that is a big pull to players.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Mike Aitcheson3:40 pm, May 07, 2015

    That's a bit harsh.
A better question is: And yours is?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Wow, everyone seems so happy and content on this site today.....

Isn't anyone just a little peeved at Depay choosing the team we all love from down the road.....?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Unfortunately you cant read peoples minds and these big targets need to be approached who knows what they are plotting.
At least until the final wash up.

    ReplyDelete
  80. If I ever went to anfield I would be chanting and screaming my head off throughout the game, I can't imagine Logan and Chirag doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Ok, but Rafa went for Berry and missed out. Not mentioning he lost one of the best along the way..

    ReplyDelete
  82. Mike Aitcheson3:45 pm, May 07, 2015

It was always a long shot, and remains still a bit of a gamble. I was MUCH more upset about Sanchez, for example.
I remember Utd fans laughing because they won aginst us for the signatures of Young, Jones etc . How did that turn out? Never mentioned again, didn't care.

    ReplyDelete
  83. BR said finishing 5th is on par with where we are at. In a way he is right because if we look at top 4 teams...they all have better squad than us. But BR could have assembled a better squad than this with 220mn plus in 3 years.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yep that final wash up Greg when everyone involved comes out smelling of roses and we idiot fans end up still going round and round in the washing machine of inexcusable inadequate incompetency from our club.....

    ReplyDelete
  85. I was actually sad after reading depay news.. The guy wanted us but we were too slow to react,AGAIN!, what i want to say now whoever that is in charge of that committee should be fired ASAP along with BR. Every season it's the same story here, it takes Ayre 2months to negotiate then 1month to close out a deal.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yep that final wash up Greg when everyone involved comes out smelling of roses and we fans end up still going round and round in the washing machine of inexcusable inadequate incompetency from our club.....

    ReplyDelete
  87. Mike Aitcheson3:46 pm, May 07, 2015

No. I meant a better question to Chirag would be what is your way of supporting rather than just saying his way sucked..

    ReplyDelete
  88. Top players do not want to come to Liverpool we have nothing to offer.

    ReplyDelete
  89. You should stop thinking too much about us. Time for a break from Internet?

    ReplyDelete
  90. You Mr Mike are doing a fabulous job of tempering the gush of emotion I'm going through right now......Thank you for the perspective.....

.....and how the f*** are you holding it together...!?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Thought it is pretty clear..

    ReplyDelete
  92. Ok greg ....and that too......

    ReplyDelete
  93. Where is that "all is well" guy Adam Griffin or something?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Stop thinking about him..

    ReplyDelete
  95. Mike Aitcheson3:50 pm, May 07, 2015

I agree, he could. But we are still £100m short in terms of what the respective squads cost compared to the nearest of our top 4 rivals and in some cases £200m+

    ReplyDelete
  96. I just hope Depay ends up crap he is full of it was going to United all the time just wanted a massive pile of cash.
    Peeved doesnt even cover it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I meant the thinking about you part, of course. You should follow your own advice too..

    ReplyDelete
  98. Aye, Orme. It ain't over until the fat lady heaves her massive bosom onto the stage, raises her quivering bingo wings to the Gods of football (or Raheem Sterling) and belts out You'll Never Walk Alone one final time.

I'd take maximum pleasure from seeing smug grins wiped from complacent, self-satisfied faces.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I agree Sid, Porto have one of the best scouting networks in South America. That is where 85% of their players come from. They have made easily over £300M in sales in a few years.

    We have to be smart.

Look at Chelsea, they have a great tactic: buy as much potential and ready made players as they can and then send them out on loan, that means their price does not drop but if they do well it increases, if they are part of the 1st team ( De Bruyne, Schrule) then they sold for a tidy profit. I don't like this model but it's working.

Liverpool have just wasted way too much money over the past 25 years. FSG have the right plan but I'm not sure performance related contracts works in football.

We need to stop signing one season wonders and players that do not suit the style of our play alas Balotelli, Lambert, Lovren etc..

Everyone is responsible but BR came in with a small club mentality and thus attracts players of the same ilk. And they crumb under pressure.

But some things cannot be forgiven, I mean Aspas, Alberto, Cissokho, Borini? What was he thinking.

If BR gets sacked I would understand why, he would survive one day at Real, Chelsea, City, Bayern, United and Barca!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I would like to know the total sum that the current top 4 club put into defensive players in the last 3 years compared to Liverpool. Then I would like to how much we have improved defensively. That right there should give us enough idea about how good a manager or a coach BR is.

    ReplyDelete
  101. haha..no seriously. .where is he?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Mike Aitcheson3:55 pm, May 07, 2015

Ha ha it's just a matter of perspective. Imagine if we had signed Falcao for all that money on loan and he scored less than Sterling ?
My Dad made me learn Kipling's 'If@ poem when I was young:
"If you can meet with Triumph, And Disaster, And treat those two imposters just the Same"
Sounds corny but it gets it just right imo

    ReplyDelete
  103. Haven't seen him in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I don't believe we were too slow, we actually made moves before United and made a bid before them. Don't believe what the media says about him wanting to join us. He was never going to join us, just using us a leverage. Very clever.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Porto benefits from liberal visa rules. Unfortunately Liverpool can't buy such players even if our scouts manage to unearth few south american talents.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I hope all the players they buy turn out crap...

But wouldn't you agree Greg that these lawyers and top executives we have are really naive to think games are not on the agenda....I mean do you or I go into buying a used car without total game plan....let alone revealing the thing buy letting the press have a field day with it....

Though I hate to say it...Chelsea get the right player for the right price and quickly before anybody messes it up usually even swooping in at the last moment....
even when they screw up they come out good £50 mill Luiz....

    ReplyDelete
  107. Mike Aitcheson3:59 pm, May 07, 2015

That's not a good way because it depends who you had at the back 3 years ago. For many years with Carra, and Sami we didn't have to spend much at all. But both got to the end of their careers and we have been trying to get the same stability ever since. Same happened to UTd with Vidic and Ferdinand

    ReplyDelete
  108. No, because I knew this was never going to happen. Despite all the breaking news about him wanting to join us over United etc...

Look how quickly United wrapped that up...he always wanted to join them that was never in doubt and he was always going to United, never in doubt again.

The only we could of signed him would be by offering him X2 the wages United offered. Then he would come running and claim he always wanted to join us and United never had a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  109. No bro nothing corny about that....

Your dad is a hero .....big up to him and kudos....

Please tell him he's just reminded someone else of life's most important lesson....

    ReplyDelete
  110. Oh yeah there has gotta be a plan stuffed if i know how Luiz sold for that though im looking for a sane reason on that 1.
I dont know but CL and bigger wage offers look the way to go if they are to get any where.

    ReplyDelete
  111. For a hundred pounds you bet on Liverpool not winning vs chelski you get 29 profit. Time to get a credit?

    ReplyDelete
  112. More than 120 comments on this thread. Not a single one about the topic..

    ReplyDelete
  113. Mignolet 10mn. Sakho 18mn. Lovren 20mn. Llori 6mn. Moreno 12mn.

That's 66mn plus cost of others like toure..manquillo..cissoko

and we are still looking for couple of full backs...goalkeeper and some would also say another CB.

we say we arent spoiled with money like city or chelsea but in reality we are even worse.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Not true Vigoreaux will be our best signing this summer.

I think Balotelli was always destined to fail. And I think he was pushed on to BR by the committee.

I keep saying this but is true...Balo was a much better player at 17 than at 24 and that tells you all. That's what happen when you give a 19 (City) £100K a week. He lost motivation and the will to improve.

Look at Sterling, he is on the same path as Shaun Wright-Phillips if he is not careful. How can he demand 180K a week after his poor performances for the past few months? Anyway, I digress.

The difference between Suarez and Balotelli is talent. Suarez has loads, Balotellis talent ended just before it begun to shine, I cannot see him getting better. I bet he will end up playing for a mid level Serie A team.

But these gambles need to be made times, but Liverpool have made way too many to be forgiven...Carroll, Aqualani etc...

  117. You say us not to believe in media regarding Depay wanting to join us. But you want to believe the media when they say we made moves before united and that Depay used us. That's unfair

  118. JK knows that this is no news article...he creates such thread purposely from time to time for some banter. Kudos to JK

  119. Of course not, but that fee was never being mentioned, it was 25M Euros or £18M, that's what United offered and we as well.

  120. One thing on that we had agreements with Genk to share players possibly using them to get players visas but nothing ever happened.

  121. Thing is...outside Liverpool or the UK no one knows who the heck Kenny Dalglish, Ian or John are...

players want to play for those kind of men....

as far as world class players....amte I did say IF hicks and gilly had backed rafa to his first choice guys then we would have got them....
BR gets fsg to go for his first choice but they pi**off elsehwere....

world class or not rafa has pull and so do a whole host of other managers e.g Klopp who broke the mould with german league....

  137. Rodgers would have been sacked already if he was at another top club.

After LFC where does Rodgers go? Definitely not to a top club.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I can't find a consensus to be honest every place I go its reported different. If that is true though I think Depay just wrote his career death warrant. Look at Janjiuz(I think I just butchered his name but idc he plays for ManUre), RVP, Falcao, Di Maria. LVG is very hard to play for and delay will find it hard to nail down a spot where he could have come to lfc and gotten tons of playing time which he needs at his age.

They nalways claim to know what people think but really know little more than we do
Still, got a story to sell...
If you don't believe me, click on the club tabs on the big sites and you'll see the same player being touted as preferring whatever club you chose. It's just good business for them to do this

  143. Thats because they have to play for Genk for at least 2 years before playing for Liverpool. That might be an issue.

  165. CL and bigger wages ...you talkking about us right Greg?
but you know that managers acn talk players into coming if they have repurtation and presnce right...?

    ReplyDelete
  166. Not if the club finished in the top four.

Agree with your overall point, though. However, success makes underwhelming transfers easier to accept.

If Liverpool won a cup this season and finished in the top four, it would make the £62m splurged on Lallana, Markovic, and Balotelli more palatable.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Brendan Rodgers on:-

Coutinho: He will become world class in the next couple of years.

Joe Allen: He is a welsh Xavi and a real top-class player. Bargain for 15mn

Sturridge: Daniel Sturridge can be as good as world-class Luis Suárez

Emre Can: I feel he will develop into a world-class player.

Balotelli: There is no doubting Mario's ability; he is a world-class talent and someone who, for such a young age, has vast experience of playing at the very highest level.

Sterling: He'll become world class in the next couple of years

Before the start of the season - Liverpool can still attract world-class talent even if we aren't in Champions League

Now - Fears Reds will struggle in attracting world class players without CL

But my favorite was by Hendo: For me, Brendan is a world-class manager

    ReplyDelete
  168. Mike Aitcheson5:06 pm, May 07, 2015

I agree. Or if we had been better negotiators on the price. £15-18m on Lallana would have taken the pressure off him . Similarly Lovren was a 12-14m player.
Hendo cost us £20m though, and for a while it looked like just as big a waste of maney, only his work ethic kept us believing
PS could we have a poll asking if people thimk we would have signed Depay with Klopp in charge?

  169. Theres a famous song that says it all money makes the world go around the world go around the world go around.

    ReplyDelete
  170. And now the club has no choice but to get rid of Balotelli, Aspas, Alberto, Borini etc first before we can start purchasing other players as we have a massive squad so adding more players to the wage bill when you struggle to get rid of those you do not want is a recipe for disaster.

    ReplyDelete
