Liverpool are once again being linked with a move for France star Jeremy Menez, who has been on the Reds' transfer wishlist since the Rafa Benitez era.
According to Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato today, Liverpool and Monaco are considering a summer move for 27-year old Menez, who signed for AC Milan a year ago after an unhappy spell at Paris St. Germain.
The Reds have been linked with Menez many times in the past:
* 2010: Rafa Benitez tried to sign Menez during the January transfer window, but the player decided to stay at AS Roma.
* 2011: Menez hinted that he'd leave Roma after a bust-up with Roma Coach Vincenzo Montella, and according to The Mirror, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish kept an eye on the winger.
* 2014: Brendan Rodgers reportedly considered putting in a £10m January bid for Menez.
* 2014: Sky Sports claimed that Liverpool were set to 'reignite interest' in £10m-rated Menez.
Some info about Menez:
* Milan contract expires: 2017
* Salary: €65k-a-week.
* Can play as a winger or a centre-forward
* Received a 4-match ban this week for directing a "blasphemous expression" at the fourth official following a recent dismissal against Genoa.
* After being a bit-part player for PSG, Menez is a regular starter for Milan, and his stats have vastly improved as a result of being trusted by his manager:
- Milan: 16 goals/4 assists in 33 apps
- Goal/assists every 1.6 games
- PSG: 15 goals/16 assists in 107 apps.
- Goal/assists every 3.4 games
Only Carlos Tevez has scored more goals than Menez in Serie A this season, and Milan boss Filip Inzaghi has set the Frenchman a new target for next season. In a recent interview, he noted:
"He [Menez] is a good centre-forward and he's also excellent as a winger. He mustn't stop now, though. He must try to become Serie A's top goalscorer, not for himself but for the team."
Like Liverpool, Milan are a former football superpower who've fallen from grace, and this season is another disappointment for a club with such an illustrious history.
It's the same at Anfield, and I can't see why Menez would ditch Milan for another club struggling to maintain a Champions League presence.
Worth a bid this summer?

This is a no-brainer; £10m and just £65K/week is approx what we are forking out for Borini. Get Ayres moving with his suitcase now!!
ReplyDeleteoffer him 75,000 per week.
ReplyDeleteEvery striker B R has bought have been DUDS - possible exception of Sruridge -lost faith in his judgement - he even wants to keep Balotelli Brad Jones etc. Then we hear Lallana telling us we can make top 4 - HOW THEN MATE ??By doing something youve not done once so far = Play Well ?? Lets see you score the winner against Chelsea then ?? Talk is cheap. Club is in a mess with no direction
ReplyDeleteAmazing and creative, but he is kind of selfish, although I do think he could bring Balo to play better, he is the exact player who could revive his career here.
ReplyDeleteFrom Milan as well and is quick!
Why would any talented footballer want to come to the most average team in the premier league? Also FSG,are you serious about getting Liverpool back at the top?Next season is going to be the defining season for FSG and B.Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteDid you watch the Liverpool old boys play last night ?
ReplyDeleteand we end up with Balo and Lambert !
5th place, 3 points above 6th, I'd say there are slightly more 'average' sides than us at the moment. And why FSG? They saved us from G&H and have been putting cash in and keeping their opinions out, thats what every club wants, an owner that lets the club run itself, but keeps the club pretty well funded.
ReplyDeleteMilan fans aren't too enamered with his selfishness....Has the same
ReplyDeleteissue as Sterling, he thinks he's better than he really is and tries to
take on everyone before failing....
Why do you follow the club if thats how you feel....
ReplyDeleteAnd his contract clauses ready!
ReplyDeleteDitto
ReplyDeletesell sterling and bring in talent, he has no finishing skills. he is not worth what he is asking for. let real madrid or barce take him. he will be permanently on the bench.
ReplyDeleteIs Menez not meant to be a bit of a d!ck? The last thing we need is any more divisive characters in our already fractured dressing room
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm disappointed with B.R and hope FSG tell him to get it right or move on.$200 + million B.R spent on players, the team should be superstars not the average team they're.
ReplyDeleteAnd a manager that is spending those funds on mostly average players.Klopp in.
ReplyDeleteor
ReplyDeletehow do you know BR wants to keep Balotelli and Jones? did he say it? I must have missed that.
ReplyDeleteFSG have done their bit!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBR getting all the blame again for buying bad players, when even respected reporters/pundits are blaming the transfere committee system, as for superstars...we haven't been able to attract superstars since before BR.
ReplyDeletefor same reason suarez and torres did
ReplyDeleteYES , a player at his peak time with that small amount fee. My worry is everytime liverpool sure will ended up paying over the odd.
ReplyDeleteor we'll delay and another club will pip us to it again
ReplyDeleteWhy?
ReplyDeleteHe is part of the committee and so gets part of the blame for transfers. Whoever decides on what wages are offered.and the amounts we decide a player is worth and therefore not with going over should also be blamed. Those responsible for the compiling of lists too. Everyone who knew Suarez was leaving and only had Mario as a backup plan for Sanchez. There is no way ALL this is Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteDepay going to United. He was always going to go there, the media just got Liverpool fans' hopes up.
ReplyDeleteHe was available for free last summer.
ReplyDeleteits true... i read the article and the first thought that went to mind was... what about all those posts on Liverpool-kop saying that he was coming here? i mean there was even that nonsense about him liking a post or something????
ReplyDeleteTherefore FSG is also at least partly 'to blame' as it is their policy that the transfer committee enforces.
ReplyDeletePaul George Ntep: A player who's been linked with QPR and Stoke looks to be the next target for that position.Brendan Rodgers and the transfer sh8t-mittee haven't learnt.Liverpool have a squad stacked with substandard one-season wonders. These days you don't have to do much to get a Liverpool move.We constantly hand out winning lottery tickets to average players.
ReplyDeletePay extra for better quality!
They always do me like a kipper.I fall for the talk of marquee players coming in, despite a track record that says it won't happen.Man U will sign Memphis Depay, but why is our next option no where near the level of our first choice? Last season we went for Alexis Sanchez, but got trumped by Arsenal.Markovic was our second choice.Following that majorly diluted back up option, we miss out on Depay and now it's looking likely we'll get PGN.
I was hoping for a superstar to kick off our window. It would've been a statement of intent.Instead Liverpool go after the same standard of player we usually get.Something needs to change!
Curses and splashes. Once again I got my hopes up. When will I ever learn? Liverpool's transfer business is deplorable. How can we possibly miss out on another top target?
ReplyDeleteI'm almost depressed about this.
ReplyDeleteThink we've made our statement of intent, BEAST. Same one we've been making for years: we won't pull out the stops for the top players.
And, no. We don't want the truth. We want some of these dreams to come true!
ReplyDeleteWith Depay gone
ReplyDeletewe can sign Ntep now
......................................................Ings/Origi
......................Ntep/Ibe................................................Son
............................................Coutinho/Lallana
.......................................Can...................Henderson/Milner
.................Moreno.............Sakho...........Skrtel......Montoya
....................................................Mignolet/Neto
with Markovic helping out hopefully coming good
what do people think about this side ?
Sterling(he wants to leave you cant keep a player by force) 38m Balotelli 8m Borini 5m Lambert 5m Lucas 6m enrique 2m
total: 64m
in
Ings free Ntep 12m Son 17m Milner free Neto free Montoya 8m a total 37m
Looks really good business , profit 27m
especially in conjunction with FFP
We can only sign players just not that highly rated
ReplyDeleteKovacic and Son are our standards right now
We missed out because we couldn't compete. I'm not a fan of the committee, but maybe there's nothing they could do
ReplyDeleteour competition is Spurs and Southampton
ReplyDeletenot man united and arsenal
Seriously, who the f*** is Ntep? It's Sanchez all over again- miss out on him, fall a few rungs below to Markovic instead. Can't believe the amount of shite BR spews to the media. He must eat through his arse.
ReplyDeleteMan uniteds new side?
ReplyDelete.............................................Rooney
......................Depay....................Mata.............Di Maria
.........................................Gundogan.....Herrera
......................Shaw............Jones..........Hummels....Valencia
................................................De Gea
it could get even better
if they sign Bale
we really our far behind utd
Then we rather then signing top players will lose one of our better ones in RAHEEM STERLING
Chelsea and Man city are not going to wait for us to catch up
arsenal are showing tehir dominance
WILL LFC EVER GET BACK IN THE TOP 4 OR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?
Yeah bit Torres joined when we were cl finalists and had a Spanish contingent with the manager who beat barca and Real
ReplyDeleteMan city did not exist (at top level)
Arsenal were paying off their stadium
Chelsea just got started as a top club
Ferguson was content with building through homegrown talent
Now all those 4 teams are heavy hitter in the transfer market
Suarez only joined us because of the biting scandal
It's going to be a long hard summer. Might go gutting kelp on a North Sea trawler for a bit to get away from it.
ReplyDeleteSummer is around the corner? Nonsense.
ReplyDeleteThe Winter Is Coming.
I don't know about winter but Liverpool certainly not going to Memphis now either...
ReplyDeleteMust be a wage issue, because PSV had given us permission to talk the player. Perhaps he was put off by the recent limp performances.
ReplyDeleteI suppose we'll have to console ourselves with the thought that Memphis is just living up to his name and going somewhere where DePay is higher...
ReplyDeleteSave me a seat, please.
ReplyDeleteNice one. Another Winter of Discontent.
ReplyDeleteRooney convinced Memphis about Depays at the United cafeteria.
ReplyDeleteI'll show myself out...
liverpool-rumours.co.uk
ReplyDeleteFor weeks now, they have maintained that Depay is off to United, despite all the media BS. Read their insights if you want accurate information.
That may be harder to swallow...
ReplyDeleteI had a great steak one for lunch.
ReplyDeleteSteak and Mushroom better than Suarez and Sturridge.
ReplyDeleteWith our current crop of strikers it's more like Mistake and Kidme...
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your frequent rage, disappointed with the lack of caps lock rage, though.
ReplyDeleteBit contradicting. You didn't believe the Depay-Liverpool rumours so why believe much about this Ntep guy, whoever he is. Just wait it out. The guarantee is the club will overpay for someone, we are just unsure of who that will be. In due course...
All i can say is i am not surprised by Depay not coming but just another mercenary using Liverpool to get a better deal elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThe plane flying over Anfield ,showing the world that Liverpool is in turmoil .
ReplyDeleteHim and his manager used Liverpool to get a better deal.
ReplyDeleteNtep is likely no good easy to believe Pete.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately our underwhelming rumours tend to come true more than the awesome ones. :-(
ReplyDeleteSome fans, huh.
ReplyDeleteSorry, haven't gone far enough in the show yet to know what you're talking about ;-)
ReplyDeleteHaha, you both are on fire, *ahem* fresh out the oven.
ReplyDeleteThen I assume a 'LVG factor' article from Jaimie is coming up. He'd be correct on this one, though.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Suarez ate in the cafeteria. The cafeteria only has normal food.
ReplyDeleteAll you need to know is that it's grim ;-)
ReplyDeleteAll B.S Pete Depay wanted United all along just used us to up dePAY.
ReplyDeleteDamn; should have said it's laborious.
ReplyDeleteYup - he probably would. Makes one look twice at people like Ancelotti.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely not, the guy is a total headcase.
ReplyDeleteLoving it.
ReplyDeleteI believe the Ntep story because history dictates that I believe it, and there's no better adherent of history than a Liverpool fan, apparently. I didn't believe Depay because I trust the source that I linked on here (you will see it once it passes moderation).
ReplyDeleteI save rage caps lock for match threads.
that's gonna sea sick duddde
ReplyDeleteHe's been in United's hands for at least weeks now...
ReplyDeleteAnd a very skillful player.
ReplyDeleteWhy that word mercenary...
ReplyDeleteWell sells his soul for money basically.
ReplyDeleteSoul?!? How is that?
ReplyDeleteHe is full of s#@T
ReplyDeleteHow about some facts to support that statement?
ReplyDeleteLook at the above what i wrote ask yourself if he needed a season to decide to join his mate Van Gaal.
ReplyDeleteHe never had any intention of joining Livrerpool think about it.
And he SAID he did? And even if he did, which he DIDN'T, using one employee's offer to boost another one's is bussines mate, we would all do that if we had a chance.
ReplyDeleteBusiness is just a word mate and honesty and integrity is a way of life thats how i see it.
ReplyDeleteWhat honesty are you talking about, what does Some Depay owe to Liverpool? He has in his view a better manager ther there, better chance of winning trophies and a better salary, why should he not sign for them?
ReplyDeleteThink you are absolutely right..
ReplyDeleteWell i suppose it depends on how you look at life you can i suppose just lie to everyone which he has done.
ReplyDeleteAnd you can go on thinking its ok to lie because you owe nobody nothing.
What lie did HE SAY?
ReplyDeleteCome on mate you him and his agent led Liverpool on lets leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteHis agent said that PSG and us were LEADING the race. I tend to believe that. In comes his countryman and both other teams are off. No lies, no deception.
ReplyDeleteWhy?
ReplyDeleteLooks like one of the worst LFC lineups ever assembled...70% possession 1 goal per game.
ReplyDeleteWhy what?
ReplyDeleteThis one really disappointed me but after a couple of hours I'm over it. Now I'm looking forward to being disappointed by Konoplyanka.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Son and Montoya; ambivalent about the rest. I'd keep Lucas and Balo, though, and hopefully add at least one genuinely top-drawer player.
ReplyDelete??
ReplyDeleteWhy are you condoning deception when its plain for all to see Orme?
ReplyDeleteNo deception. There was a race, as there is for every goodplayer. manu won. Depay promised nothing to no one.
ReplyDeleteI was just contrasting your comment with the one below from Nss Ssn as they often do on the BBC gossip column ;-)
ReplyDeleteHe's hasn't once played a contributing role for a winning club. All he did at PSG was whine his way off the field.
ReplyDelete
