Snubbed? Forget Palace: This unacceptable no-show is the ultimate insult to Gerrard

It's almost over: Steven Gerrard is one game away from ending his glorious 17-year Liverpool career. Gerrard's final game at Anfield didn't quite go according to plan (!) but he received a fitting send-off from players, ex-Reds, and fans alike, some of whom had paid £1500+ to witness Gerrard's final home game in a red shirt. It was a momentous (and sad) day, but in a staggering display of breathtaking apathy, neither John W. Henry (Principal Owner), nor Tom Werner (LFC Chairman) turned up at Anfield to show their appreciation for one of Liverpool's greatest ever players. Pretty shameful, really.

Henry and Werner talk-the-talk, but actions speak louder than words, and one (or both) should've been at Anfield yesterday to honour a player who has displayed total loyalty to the club over the last 17-years.

Gerrard announced his intention to leave Liverpool in January, which means Henry and Werner have had FOUR MONTHS to clear their calendars and plan the trip to Anfield.

However, neither could seemingly be bothered to make the arduous, and, admittedly, expensive, 8-hour slight to the UK.

Both Henry and Werner have offered the usual platitudes about Gerrard's departure, but actions speak louder than words, and if they really cared, they would've made it their business to attend the captain's final home game.

Fans shouldn't be surprised, though. In the (almost) five years of owning the club, Henry and Werner have attended less than 10 games overall, which, in and of itself, is a cause for concern.

For me, there's no excuse for Henry and Werner to snub Gerrard. One of both should've attended the game, and their failure to show the requisite respect for the captain is (IMO) a fatal error of judgement on their part.

On a related note: After the Palace defeat, Daniel Sturridge posted the following on Instagram:

"The greatest player to ever wear a Liverpool shirt. Wish I was there to share his last moments and season with the club. He's taught me a lot about football on and off the field and made me feel welcome at the club on my first day when I was nervous and had no idea what to expect. As the saying goes you don't know what you've got till its gone but for me we already know what we'll miss. As I said before the greatest to wear the the Liverpool shirt and one of the greats of world football leaves our club today and I just want to say thanks for everything bro".

A glowing testimonial, and Sturridge clearly thinks alot about Gerrard. However, if his genuine 'wish' was to 'share' Gerrard's last moments, then why didn't he just get on a plane and attend the game?

Sturridge had minor surgery 10-days ago, and the Civil Aviation Authority (as posted by the NHS) advises that patients wait 'four to five days' after 'simple surgery' before flying.

As such, I'm sure Sturridge could've made the trip without any complications.

As for Werner and Henry, to my knowledge, neither has undergone any significant surgery over the last few months, so they really have no excuse for failing to attend.

  1. I am sure Steve Gerrard is not bothered by the absence of anyone. The people that matter where there! The supporters the friends his team mates and most of all his family.... Like me he probably hasn't noticed they were missing and probably does not give a .... ends in t!

  3. The articles the last few weeks have really gone up a notch in terms of looking critically at everything and anything LFC related. I know that's the aim of the site but there was generally such good, well-thought articles for months but the amount of attacks these last few weeks....

Save for the open letter he published on NESN only days ago.

  5. They do have a guy running the club here anyway don't they?

John Henry did write an open letter to and about Gerrard on his TV station website...I'm also sure they would have spoken to eachother before and since.

  7. LFC is run as a business, it's sole purpose is to grow as a brand/franchise and to repay it's investors. Gerrard leaving probably devalues the brand so i'm not surprised the investors never turned up or wanted to make it a bigger story in anyway. The investors FSG own the club, they have plenty of yes men in Rodgers, Ayre and others to enure the company rhetoric is repeated, they don't need sentiment or respect from anyone. It saddens me to say but our great family club is merely just a set of figures on a balance sheet, as long as the figures add up then they have achieved their aims.

  8. I see all the barbed comments and lopsided views have been doing the curcuits since yesterday's event at Anfield to show a true legend the respect he deserves.

i must admit I hada lump in my throat and a tear in my eye recollecting the mulitude of emotions from memeories i can only say left me speechless when i bothered thinking just how many therre were, good ones, associated with Steven Gerrard....

Yesterday was one for us...., us fans to bond one last time on home turf witha man who 'gotit' that we hurt when we lost and 'got it' when we picked up the sofa with the strength of ten men and mistakenly kicked one of our own kids in the head when we scored or better still won....

...There are those who have been saying and would say it was a big deal for nothing too great...no one else in football made a big deal of apparently giggs or schoiles or some players from other teams....that they went with quiet 'dignity' and that's how it should be done....

...what a sad day when your 'own' don't bother appreciating that you put in a shift, and that that shift lasted 17 years...and during that shift - very unlike players like scholes and giggs and terry to name only three - there were fancy companies and their ilk throwing toys and hot birds and loads of money to turn your head....that these said companies (football clubs, if your not keeping up) knew and understood you were invaluable ond at one point the best at doing what you did ....on the planet......but still all you did was look up, lick your lips; dream what it could be like on the 'other side' but then you put your head back down and carried on......

...That was Steven Gerrard, and that's why he deserves our recognition and applause...That's why we shouldn't just do the old understated send-off...because we LFC brethren and sisters are a passionate lot we wear our haert on our sleeve and our feelings on our motto...

...You'll never walk alone..... and that's why we get teary when we sing it......

...so don't fret the fact the owners were not there - and after the yaer he's had leave young Studge alone to recuperate without risk of air-flight embolism - because what Stevie wanted was to spend that time yesterday bonding with whomsoever 'wanted' to be there or watching on the tele (me)....

thank you Steven Gerrard.....you really will never walk alone.......

  9. Sturridge no show is not an issue as he *could *have had complications and travel is not recommended, simple surgery or not. As for the others well... Their club, their wish I guess.... They were not missed, what was missing was any substance of worth from the LFC team on the pitch that day.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I thought what was worse was neither his team mates nor the fans really turned up yesterday.
I'm not ashamed to say I was in tears yesterday. Steven Gerrard and Liverpool have been a constant in mine and so many other fans lives for so long and I'm really gutted the way his Liverpool career has just fizzled out

  14. For someone who usually takes a little care when speculating, I have to say that I'm amazed JK that you blithely declare that Sturridge could easily have made that journey. An injury which will take him over 5 months to recover from does not sound like a small matter, simple surgery does not always mean quickly mended. Using such generalistic CAA advice as your 'evidence' is to my mind ill advised .

That said, I wholeheartedly agree that the top brass should have been there to bid farewell to Gerrard, who has contributed as much as anyone over the past 10-15 years to LFC's brand.

    Not good.

    ReplyDelete
  15. No they don't, but if they benefit from SG's efforts and use his exploits, image and reputation to produce that profit then they should have the decency to show their appreciation with more than empty words, all their previous declarations about him rendered that way by their slight on Stevie

    ReplyDelete
  16. Agree totally . Inexcusable and says it all about our owners ... They just don't get it and I seriously doubt that they ever will !

    ReplyDelete
  17. While I do agree about the owners, I have to say they bailed us out at the right time; before we went totally under, and have made decisions at least which show a little want from them to further/sustain the club - notwithstanding they need to put up and invest way more than what is going on.....

...anyway we just have no insight as to the politics, power-plays, allegiances, little coalitions etc, etc that go on in every corporation...that said I will back-track and say it would have been nice to see them but I feel that yesterday was really one for the fans and our bond with Stevie as a player and fellow fan and we should kind of leave it there otherwise rot sets in and we start tearing ourselves apart inside....
...its tough enough holding it together with abject performances and looking on the bright side of management leadership questions than have to also double think on our clubs owners too...

Totally agree with the studge thing......................

    ReplyDelete
  18. ...you have a very good point there Mike; that they should show their appreciation given the benefits they've received from his presence.

there could also be more at play here - actions do speak louder - maybe thats the message they want out there - that they are businesmen and hold themselves in very high esteem too; taht without them there also would be no club etc etc. a bit like two people in a relationship with neither willing to take submissive position....

....that last bit more for FSG than Stevie....

    ReplyDelete
  19. Some mentioned this but I have to say it again, a bit louder- The Kop was disgraceful.
I know a lot of outsiders were there, but still.. There had to be a number of people singing their hearts out throughout the WHOLE game. Steven Gerrard was the second reason I fell in love with Liverpool, first were the best supporters in the world. I lost both on Sunday.
And even though I knew it was coming, still can't believe it. There is a reason Steven didn't cry- there was nobody to share it with. I always knew there were better players than him, but I would never swap him with anyone; and I knew there are better supporters than Liverpool's- I'd swap them with any.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've few issues about them as owners generally. They have put hard cash into the club and not burdened it with massive interest payments, and they are expanding Anfield just as they said they would.

But I'm sure they would have made the flight in the US to honour a top baseball icon, so they should have made one here

    ReplyDelete
  21. And why the fcuk didn't Scousers show up to honour an icon? And if that ballet audience was Scousse- fcuk'em! You know why Steven and Carra could yell at teammates when not putting their best? Lead by example. So owners don't have to justify nothing, as there is nobody to justify to. Except Steven, but I doubt he cares..

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes they're out in force, but I have two questions for them.

Is it the Manager's fault, or the players' fault when we do well/badly?

you need to make your mind up, because you say this season's poor showings are because of BR (Manager)

But last season's success was because of Suarez (players)

Can't have it BOTH ways. Players when we do well and manager when we don't do well..

    Which is it?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Seriously Jamie if this kind of thing really bothers you, you really need to get out more..... First of all you don't know the reason why these three weren't there..... Also Henry & Werner are businessmen and never pretended to be anything else..... I'm quite sure that Sturridges absence from Anfield is at the request of the club and I think it's only right that he and the club should do everything possible to get Daniel back as soon as is possible and I'm quite sure Steven who had problems of his own early in his career will get over it....
What exactly is your accusation.... That they don't care as much as the fans.... You could be right.... BTW if I owned the club I'd be disgusted that Saturday was used by the players / manager to stage a second testimonial for Steven and I refer to the approach to the match itself.
I would imagine that a squad finishing 3 or 4 behind 4th would feel better going into pre-season then a team 6 or 7 behind....
But the farewell itself was great and I'm sure the owners had other business to attend to but either way I don't really care as long as they're ready to write a couple of big cheques this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It did grate a bit that everyone was trying to set Stevie up all the time- defenders knew where the ball was going

    ReplyDelete
  25. I hear you man.....

  26. Sorry Mike...

    ...you referring to me..?
..if so please, do be clear what am I answering to; I mean which bit, what did I say...?
Thanks man and I'll be happy to make it clear in reply - whatever i said that is....

    ReplyDelete
  27. You don't sound like yourself Orme
They don't HAVE to. I think they should have WANTED to
And did you see what tickets were going for ?

    ReplyDelete
  28. No season ticket holders in the KOP? Scousers should have wanted to.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm referring to all the barbed comments and lop sided views you mention in your post, , you'd think the world had ended for us.
Criticism of BR / the performances is fine, and to be expected especially after the lame last few games. But some of it is WAAAAY over the top, and so one sided it's hard to take some good points seriously

    ReplyDelete
  30. I meant the owners should have wanted to come.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know. I meant supporters, Scousers should have wanted, ad as they didn't show up how the fcuk can we blame some Yenkee businessmen that didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I, personally would never want to see Gerrard on loan at LFC. He is not a Lampard or Drogba who would return to the same club or rivals just because they aren't done with silverware. LA Galaxy is now home for Stevie.

    ReplyDelete
  33. For me, it's the lowest point of their ownership.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I find it a bit harsh to speculate on the owners reasons for not making it they have large business interests which need attending to a bit unfair i think.
I would like to add we should always remember they fought hard to save this club that matters a lot more to me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's not speculation; it's a fact they weren't at the game. The 'why' is irrelevant. Outside of a family emergency, there's no excuse for not attending the game (IMO)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi Everyone.

Been following Jamie's articles since last season. Bravo; a fan who speaks his mind and really does put the club before everyone-the players, the manager and of course, himself.

I agree with Didi on this one; as much as I'd love to see SG8 back in a LFC top on loan at some point, I just can't help but think he'll be pressured somehow into dragging the Club out of God knows what mediocrity. Here's me praying not though, on both accounts. Hopefully, SG8 NOT returning on loan and the Club NOT being in dire straits.

BTW, what do you all make of my transfer thoughts/dealings below. Hope you don't mind Jamie, will keep reposting it for discussion and debate. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. BTW, what do you all make of my transfer dealings attached below?!?

Hope you don't mind Jamie, will keep posting it for discussion and debate.

Slightly off topic, yet relevant nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Still No exuse not to be there.
Liverpool will repay their investment ,already close to 1 billion !
Surely it's Ayre's job to encourage the owners to addend ?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Can't believe all the whining and crying - And that was just for Gerrard leaving!!
Get a grip lads - guys crying because a player retires?
The owners not being there isn't an issue for me. Gerrards 'farewell' was a personal thing between him, the club and the supporters. 2 guys who really don't know Gerrard particularly well and who haven't even seen over half of his career, didn't need to be there pretending to be tearful and emotional when inside they are thinking about the 160k a week that's soon to be coming off the wage bill. I don't recall them being at Anfield when Carra left so what's the difference here?
I do however believe that John Henry should of sent his Mrs and other similar quality brunettes in striking red dresses and coats over to Anfield.
    Statue for John Barnes anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  40. FSG not showing up could be a case of them just not being pissed off with how the season has gone. Yes they could have been there but Stevie will be in America after the season has ended so pretty sure they can do some catching up over there.

The bigger issue at this point is the mediocrity of our team on the pitch. The loss vs Palace was the biggest low of the season. The only solution is to take the broom sweep up the mess left behind this season.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Agree I just never believed their words before.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think four months is enough time for a billionaire to plan a weekend away.

    ReplyDelete
  43. If I was him my weekends away with"the missus" would already be fully booked up years ahead!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree they did not rescue the club out of love. They saw a business opportunity. I don't like it but I get it

    ReplyDelete
  45. Said it before and I'll say it again...

FSG bought us because we can provide them with a cash return.

    Simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes, indeed. Good post.

    ReplyDelete
  47. When they have loaned the club £100's of Millions interest free? They will not see this money anytime soon either. Once the stadium expansion is complete then they might have a chance to recoup the interest free money but whether they will make a profit on the club is another story.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The why is completely relevant, we have no idea why they weren't there?
How do you know it wasn't a family emergency. Sure the chances are pretty slim, but we still don't know why they weren't there.
Who are we to pass judgement and say "no excuse"

    ReplyDelete
  49. If he is playing in the MLS then there is a perfect opportunity to play for Liverpool on loan for a few months.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Agree with all that.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The only bright side Jaimie it could be that turning up would look like they are endorsing the regime in place in terms of Ayre & Rogers.

Maybe (longshot) they are getting ready to wield the axe when they get Rogers over to FSG headquarters in Boston keeping there powder dry as it were (desperate i know).

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sorry when your speaking big business it is Henry handles a retirement fund its huge money and a big responsibility.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Since only last year Liverpool's value has increased by 39% or £270 odd million.......

    ReplyDelete
  54. You must not be a journalist then...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well we could always get H and G back i am sure they would have attended.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The owners failed to appreciate the legend and to respect LFC by not attending such an event. That's it period!

    ReplyDelete
  57. It's not ideal but we're very lucky that they're a seemingly honest company that believes in tradition and abiding by FFP etc. We could've ended up with the equivalent of Vincent Tan who would've come in and changed our strip colour to mustard because that's his favourite condiment.
I would also rather have FSG than some shady Russian or some immorally rich Arab.
If we ever win the league in their tenure it will be all the sweeter, knowing we did it the hard but honest way

    ReplyDelete
  58. Fair enough! I'd include a trip to Anfield in one of those, if I was him.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hopefully. I have seen some darker suggestions around their transfer dealings but truth is a rare commodity in such matters and difficult to identify.

    Like the mustard comment ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Haha, far from it Jock...far from it..

    ReplyDelete
  61. That is the value of the club. Just because Liverpool FC is valued at X amount does not mean they will get X amount should LFC be sold.

If LFC still continue to be mediocre on the pitch then how does that influence the resale value?

With us not qualifying for CL our income on sponsorship alone will drop. Finding a partner for naming rights to fund the rest of the stadium expansion will be much more difficult now too as sponsoring a club that is in the CL is where the money is.

If FSG put in another £100m of their interest free money then value of the club will increase by another?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Dunno all speculation.

All I can say for sure is what has happened to date and with more TV money to come I think FSG can be pretty confident they won't end up in the poor house

To answer your final question. If that £100M allows the club to increase income in future say by expanding attendances then their investment will grow along with the valuation of the club.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Perhaps the owners were too busy interviewing Br's replacement.

    That one is for Logan.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It will take them years to recoup £100's of millions from seats. The stadium expansion will only be complete in 2-3 years from now. The only way they might make their money back is if the club is sold for a profit.

Let's use an example and thumb suck the club is valued at £700m once the stadium expansion is complete. How much debt needs to be cleared first for FSG to make a profit, and we are not even talking about the money they loaned to LFC out of their pockets? That is not to say that they will even sell for £700m if the club was valued at that. The worst part for them is that they need to clear their own debt of interest free money which they make nothing from.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Could the owners be a bit peeved with Gerrard? He came out and said they need to change strategy and pay what it takes to get proven quality players. Maybe they don't want their strategy called out like that and so we're being petty.

I should get a job with the Mail with this kind of speculation.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm handsome, too.

    ReplyDelete
  67. That's better than a lot of the humdrum speculation from your friendly neighbourhood tabloids.

    ReplyDelete
  68. it was great to see Roman Abramovich and the joy on this face , at the Chelsea games when the won the title .

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yes and BR thinks he's a great manager ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  70. The valuation already takes into account and deducts the loan value. I think from memory that they paid around half the current net value of nearly $1bn and by net I mean once the loans are paid back.

    ReplyDelete
  71. To be honest I have no problems with them not being there. They are the owners and are not under compulsion to be present, I'm pretty sure Gerrard won't lose any sleep over it.

Plus they live in America and are business men and must have better things to do and going to Liverpool to see Gerrard give a 5min speech.

As they long as they keep managing the club in a proper way I don't really care if they come or not.

The owners have a presence in the club via the board to no need for them to always be present. I'm sure when they come to Liverpool for a meeting with Ayre and the board they also attend a game, to me is not an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  72. It's a shame about the clickbaiting headlines on your posts, Jamie, because the content of them is actually quite good at times. This post could easily have been titled "Gerrard might return on loan says Rodgers"

I think it'd be a bad idea for him to return on loan - he should do his couple of years elsewhere and return as coach/manager at some point in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Not that I want to Chelsea win , BUT to have a owner that wants to and enjoys winning !!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. That just does not make sense. The money loaned to LFC by FSG has been invested into the club to expand the stadium. How can that money be deducted from the value of the club? That money has gone through LFC's books 'stadium expansion = £115m = Investment. How can this figure be deducted from the what the club is worth when it is an investment?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Suggestions such as?

    ReplyDelete
  76. You have £50 and you decide to borrow £50 from a mate to buy a half full glass you like the look of that costs £70.

After the transactions are completed you have a glass worth £70 and £30 left giving you £100 in assets but you still owe £50 which once deducted leaves you with a value of £50.

Very simple I know but the principles apply equally to a company.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think it was Robo who posted something the other day about the Balotelli xfer and creative ways around FFP and player ownership. I will look back

    ReplyDelete
  78. My view:

If the complaint about ownership is that they didn't attend one game to pay homage to a club legend, and they don't attend enough games in general...

    I can look beyond that.

They have been incredible for the club, managing the finances to make sure we are stable, making finances available to improve the team, and providing the support system for the club and its fans.

Considering all that, I can find it within my heart to overlook their lack of physical presence this past weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yet they've spent hundreds of millions since taking over the club.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Not sure what you are trying to explain here.

Once the stadium is done it would have cost £115m plus X amount to complete the remainder of the project. The stadium would then be worth what it was before the expansion plus £115m plus X amount which forms part of the total value of the club = a bigger stadium = fixed asset.

How can a fixed asset be deducted from the worth of the club?

So let's go back to my example. I said that once the expansion is complete then thumb suck £700m is what LFC will be worth.

So are you telling me that we need to subtract £115m from the £700m and then LFC will be worth £585m?

    ReplyDelete
  81. The fixed asset does indeed add to the value of the company

However any loans taken out to finance the stadium from whatever sources are liabilities which need to be deducted to give a net value of the club. Loans are just that and will need to be paid back sometime otherwise they would be gifts and would indeed just add to the value of the club.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Unbelievable. So you want Henry and Warner to start acting like Hicks and Gillet.

It was painful watching those two idiots speaking about our players like they were best friends and knew about football.

    ReplyDelete
  83. But Stuart, imagine we're in the form of our lives (alright - the last 25 years then) and we are top of the table going great guns in the cups and everyone is clicking; playing the most scintilating football since one of those ads off the tele....

...and we are shoe-horned in for the end of the season run as champions - wouldn't it be lovely if stevie came in and just got the sub at 75 mins to come on behind the main striker to play in freedom and then stay just to pick up his winners medal....

...surely he deserves at least that....no...?

    ReplyDelete
  84. ...same as above....

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yeah, I kind of get what you want from the transfers and a fair number are already no-brainers as far as them leaving...

...however, we still need a squad as we were despearate last season when suarez was still here so I wonder if that is not too amny going or you are just wanting to reduce the wage bill....

...also given our absolutely sh** dealings in the transfer market - nat that its my money of course - but, when you walk into poundland and leave ahving paid a tenner for each item, then it leaves you wondering whether the players in section isn't being a bit optomistic in what you reckon we'll be paying fro said talent....

...Bolasie looks great but having been 'burnt by fire before' I also wonder whether the fact crystal palace and their fans having absolutely NO expectations insn't the reason why he plays with such freedom - totally different story when you Have to produce week in week out and then Have to carry the team as you are xpected to score when we hit a bit of low form.......at that point most players who look good fpor other teams get well forund out... but by then we've paid good money for them and end up looking stupi*.....!

"Who had asked for this event to happen? It wasn't a testimonial game and all it involved was him walking around a bit, looking a little awkward, which is pretty much all he has done on the pitch for the last couple of years anyway.

You would have thought he was going off to war or death; in reality he is going to LA to hoover up the GDP of a small, Central American country and will no doubt be back at Anfield in some capacity. We will barely even notice he is gone. The commentary this season and particularly at the weekend was little short of nauseating. If we do this for a footballer, how do we properly recognise those who have made a noble contribution for much less reward? It feels skewed to pour more praise on someone who has been drowning in praise for years.

We all find our inspiration in different places, but this elevation of one man in an orgy of sentiment is very typical of the X Factor era where celebrity is a currency that greatly exceeds talent. We have all enjoyed Steven Gerrard as a footballer; he has been great fun to watch. But, as my granddad was often fond of saying: "He's just a bloke with an arsehole, just like me and thee."

  87. But you see, the club made £900k profit for 2014 which is absolutely f all. Before that every season FSG had to write off losses, huge amounts. What the club is worth now is irrelevant as they will only recoup the huge amounts of cash they have put in IF they had to sell the club for a profit. If there came a time where they cannot find a buyer that meets the valuation of the club then they can kiss the money they have put in goodbye. It is easy to say that they are in it to make a profit from the club when they have become LFC's interest free bank. H & G hemorrhaged the club with money from banks. All FSG are doing is hemorrhaging the club with their own money.

If FSG had to recoup their money from the new seats from the stadium they will wait forever. The new TV deal is going to help them recoup some of their money but then again if LFC are not performing on the pitch then the TV money becomes far less.

Now they also have a situation where £117m of LFC's money was spent on square pegs round holes and the squad is still needing acccording to Rodgers 'marquee signings'. Without the sale of Suarez FSG will have to dish out more money. If the club only made £900k profit for 2014 with CL football on offer then it will make far less without it.

It is like Russian roulette for FSG. They bankrolled The Sox and earned success quite soon. With LFC it is very much a case of a bottomless pit. Agree to disagree.

  88. It is quite astonishing how some see FSG as having the notion to make money off LFC when the club made a profit of £900k in 2014.

  89. Exactly...

This club has many issues at the moment...

The ownership is the least of our problems.

  90. Sturridge has bigger fish to fry and for all we know the club could just be exercising extreme caution with him (and who could blame them?).

I do think that the failure of either the chairman or the principal owner to turn up is pretty poor. I'm not grabbing my pitchfork, but there really is no excuse.

  91. Personally I think it depends on timing. If we were having a decent season, I'd be happy to see him come in and lend a hand, but if we were struggling, I think it'd be detrimental for him to come in and for people to expect too much of him.
